With Groningen you forgot to mention that they we're defeated in the Dutch cup against a amateurclub Spakenburg at home(2-3 after getting 0-3 behind). They boycotted the localpress because the localpress had written articles about a Groningen players dog who killed another dog. They sacked the coach and the first 5 options to replace him all declined the offer, so the inexperienced assistant manager got the oppertunity, only to win 1 of his 20 games in charge.

I did not expect them to get 1st place, but fair enough. Their season has been atrocious and the behaviour of part of their fan base has somehow been even worse.
Also worth mentioning about FC Groningen is that their very successful long-time (over 20 years) chairman Hans Nijland departed the club in 2019. Under his rule the club promoted to the Eredivisie and became a stable top half club (12 out of 14 seasons between '06 and '19). Previous season the decline had already set in.
Talk about Luton coming from 5th tier to Premier League, same has happened in Germany with Heidenheim. They have also been managed by the same manager from 4th tier to Bundesliga.
Before the World Cup, Sevilla were on the bottom side of the league and even got grouped in the Champions League at the hands of another European finalist, Manchester City! They also had two managerial changes before Mendilibar came in.
I gotta say, Arminia Bielefeld deserve a shoutout. Relegated as 17th last year from the bundesliga, but keeping a lot of talent in Hack, Okugawa, Vasiliadis and talisman Klos, they finished 16th in the second Bundesliga this year, having to play the relegation playoff to avoid the drop.

It was not only English squads. as for instance, ADO den Haag sent a team, too in the United Soccer Association, along with Scottish, Irish, Brazilian, Italian and Uruguayan teams. The USA did this because another league was starting and the USA started a year early, but had no players. The NASL started as a combination of the two leagues
Chelsea spent £603m this season. They could have put three Formula 1 teams onto the grid with that money, then again I can't see Joao Félix being any good driving an F1 car.
Liverpool should have mentioned here. From being a Quadruple contender the last year to only playing in Europa League after 7 years. Same as Ajax. After ETH became Manchester United general, this club lost their winning identity and failed to qualify for the Champions League after 14 years.
@@bababababababa6124 Definitely worse. They were hit by some bad lucks like injury crisis, new signings got underperformed, etc. They only bounced back in the last 11 games, but unlike what happened in 2020/21, the Champions League was gone because of a draw vs Aston Villa and Manchester United won the last 4 games, including a 4-1 win over a weak Chelsea side. Ajax's story was a drama because not only they lost ETH, but some of his child were left as well, notably Lisandro Martinez and Antony. The club then hired an unknown Bald guy, but results were different. The club exited the Champions League by only recording 2 wins over Rangers and shockingly eliminated by Union Berlin in the Europa League knockout playoff round. Despite changing a manager again, results didn't improve as Ajax lost to Feyenoord and PSV for the Champions League race.
Alfie, Hellas Verona haven't been relegated, yet, they are joint on points with Spezia with a single game left, though both teams have difficult away games against team in the top 6.
You should make a video about Rosenborg, the Norwegian club who won 13 straight league titles from 1992 to 2004 and featured many straight seasons in the Champions League group stage, making the quarter-finals in 1996 after defeating Milan at San Siro. During those years they also defeated Real Madrid 2-0 at home & Borussia Dortmund 3-0 away. They're a club in complete disarray today, haven't won a trophy since 2018 and are currently 11th with 9 points from 9 matches. They look upon themselves as the biggest club in Norway, but last week they struggled to beat a local level 5 side 1-0 in the 1st round of the Norwegian Cup and all hell broke loose. Culminating with angry fans hanging up banners of frustration at the club locations in the small hours of Friday last week, and another league defeat on Monday. They've seen the small town teams Bodø-Glimt & arch rivals Molde dominating the last four league seasons with 2 titles each and Bodø-Glimt are already miles ahead this season.
Hoping for a video about Bodø/Glimt one day. From second tier to winning the league, breaking several records in the process 2 years later. Also reaching quarter finals of the Conference League. Playing fun, attacking football, not fearful trying to play they own style, even when they meet the likes of Arsenal. Bodø/Glimt is how a club from a smaller city should be run. Hope that more of the Norwegian clubs take notice. This year, Bodø/Glimt have a strong squad and I am exited to see how far they could get in the Conference League this time. About Rosenborg I can just ask right about now. What on Earth is going on at Rosenborg? 😆 Update: Rosenborg just lost 2-1 to a tier 3 club, Stjørdals-Blink in the Norwegian cup! 😲
@@JinZanmato I'm from Molde, the other club that has dominated Norwegian football the last four years, and we're a smaller town than Bodø, only 30000 ppl. But it was we who had Haaland from 16 to 18, it was with us he made some of the steps that has made him the player he is today. Yes, Rosenborg knocked out of the Cup today, and hit a new lowpoint you might say.
@@sugarkookiewithsometae4245 I can understand that, and Bodø-Glimt seems immensely strong so far this season. It's funny that here in Norway teams from the three biggest cities aren't doing very well, apart from Brann from Bergen who had a record-breaking season in Div. 1 last season and has continued that good form this year. Vålerenga, the only side from our capital Oslo in the top flight never gets going and Rosenborg hasn't won a trophy since 2018, coming from our #3 biggest town Trondheim. It's the small towns of Bodø & Molde that are dominating, and manages to attract our best players b/c they know how professional and well driven those two clubs are. Molde has had their ups and downs this season, but hopefully we're on the right track now. Bodø-Glimt seems unstoppable this year though, therefore will it be even more important for Molde to get to a group stage in Europe, and finishing so we can qualify for Europe again next year. Or win the Cup of course!
It is also worth mentioning that FC. Copenhagen bought back trabzonspor’s top scorer Andreas Cornelius immediately after knocking them out of the champions league, and for a laughably low price at that
Worth noting that even though it looked to be a great deal for Copenhagen, Cornelius have been injured most of the season and only managed 2 goals in 12 games across all competitions.. Both those goals came against a club from the 3 tier in a cup game. Not quite the bargain they hoped for.
Just to add insult to injury, the last game of Lechia got abandoned after flares were thrown onto the pitch which prevented Lechia to use the required number of Polish youth players. This means that Lechia will be fined after having financial problems already (I believe it's €500k but might've been 500k PLN which is roughly €120k).
Thanks for the section on Wigan. I look forward to the feature length video. It’s been a very up and down decade and it’s hard to see it getting better anytime soon
It's very surprising to not see Wisła Płock on the list given how much they imploded from leading to league after 8 matches yet got relegated after an absolutely awful run of form.
Hellas Verona aren't yet relegated this season, it will all be decided in the last round of games this weekend. There's even the chance of a playoff with Spezia should they finish level on points. I think Sampdoria deserved a spot in this 7 but since they will get their own full video that's fine. Nice to see Santa Clara there... I don't think their season was absolutely terrible but it's nice to see a club from the Azores islands featured.
Shaun Maloney has actually done a remarkable job at Wigan in the circumstances. His engagement with the fans has given some belief despite the apathy from higher up
Day 12: 7 Best Loan moves ever. The loan moves that have greatly benefited the team receiving the player for a limited amount of time. While not exactly the best, I always think of Morientes to Monaco as an example. I know many people have joked about how bad Chelsea has been, but I have to wonder if they have any clue how to bounce back
You should do a video on union Berlin. Between their history, money troubles, fan built stadium, and going from their first ever promotion to first flight to UCL qualification in 4 years. Along with some of our amazing players and their stories. I’m super biased but they have an amazing story
Now that you mention groningen, you should talk about Independiente of Argentina, most Copa Libertadores of any club in america, on the brink of being relegated again, 22M in debt, they have debts even with supermarkets lol, a new club president that only lasted 4 months and now an internet influencer had to step in to make a collect of money to help the club pay their debts. Not to mention that the past club board have strong ties to the most corrupto government in the history of Argentina
Hertha got knocked out in the first round of the DFB-Pokal, finished last with the 8. highest wage bill in the league, with the serious threat of going down to the 4. Division because of financial instability, after an invest of >300 Million €. I think they could`ve featured.
Dishonourable mention to Ajax, too. They very uncharacteristically failed to win any Eredivisie game against their fellow top 5 teams Feyenoord, PSV, AZ and FC Twente for the first time ever, were dismal in Europe and lost the cup final, just when they seemed set to dominate the Netherlands Bayern-style. This was all set in motion by a brilliant technical director being disappoingly unable to keep it in his pants. What followed was two utterly shambolic transfer windows, chagrin among the players, and the departure of director Edwin van der Sar. They are now facing the harsh reality of having to spend way less money than they would like, as they will miss out on the Champions League prize money they have come to rely on.
I watched the Twente game last week and it was shockingly bad, no possession and really poor mistakes. The Shef Wed/Burnley game was a far more entertaining match smh. I like too how people tried to blame ETH for stealing players when Ajax sells a bunch of their players every year anyway.
@@rwalker0130 Even then, it actually doesn't help when you have a lot of actually decent to good players. But just don't really have any proper plan with what to do with them. If it was Ten Hag with this squad he'd still have gotten close to number one.

About the Santa Clara logo, there was a poll where partners (it's confusing, basically you can buy a partnership with the club in Portugal because of SADs (I think)) and there was a beautiful logo that went into the final round but they preferred to keep the old, truly another New Zealand situation
8:40 Football teams travelling by plane is bad for the environment. Santa Clara should be swimming to every away match, likewise for teams visiting São Miguel Island.
Santa Clara have got nothing on Perth Glory who regularly travel 3.5k kms to play teams on the east coast of Australia. And travel 5.2k kms once a season to play in the distance derby against Wellington in NZ
Yeovil beat Brentford in the League One Playoff final in order to reach the Championship. 10 years on, Brentford just finished 9th in their 2nd season in the Premier League and Yeovil are in the 6th tier having games against local rivals Taunton, Weymouth and Bath next season.
Great video as always. I know there’s an international audience (and I personally like seeing other leagues and teams looked at) but would you consider a similar video but only teams in the uk? So many mentioned in the dishonourable mentions you could do a full video
20:43 For those wondering what's on the banners: "This was never allowed to happen" "This will be never be forgotten nor forgiven!" "Fledderus (ex player and now technical director of the club): persona non grata (Latin for unwelcome person)" "No more place for ego and favouritism in club management"
#3 LECHIA GDAŃSK On the last game of the season on that big stadium Lechia won 1-0 with the second team of the league by scoring 98' shot from its own half, one matchday later, on their final game of the season, they lost due to their 'fans' who demolished the away stadium in like 30' or so, and the fans got 7-month ban on the away games
I would personally add Getafe and Elche. Getafe from Europe League football to relegation battle and Elche having ruled by agent and relegated easily to Segunda
Its generally not thought of in Portugal as very surprising that Santa Clara got relegated. It was rather the fact they had been finishing so high that was a massive over achievement, since theyre not exactly swimming in money, one can get a feel for that just by looking at their stadium. In addition, theres an European curse in Portugal, teams that qualify for European competitions, that arent used to it, do very poorly the following season. GD Chaves due to that actually chose not to play the conference league next season despite qualifying for it
Sampdoria being relegated from the Seria A certainly is big news considering they were once a part of the 7 sisters triology of clubs in Italy in the 1990s during the glory days of Seria A and were both cup winners cup champions and European Cup finalists during the early 90s
When the Eredivisie was mentioned, I kind of thought it would be about Ajax. Which by all means have actually had a horrendous season as literally everyone in the Netherlands already knows. But yeah nothing compares to Groningen, I feel kind of bad about it too since Robben himself still played to keep them from relegation a while ago. Though it's now said that he might help in their internal workings regardless, so maybe we'll see that again.
Groningen has had such a bad season that they gathered 8/17 points in their first 6 games. I live in the city of Groningen now and at one point the 'supporters' made sure the Ajax Groningen match would be cancelled and they made posts online before the game that they will do everything what it takes to cancel any form of play
Reading. Dreadful season. Points deduction for mismanagement. Went from top of the table (somehow) to relegation in the same season, finishing with a 13-game winless streak. A single win would have kept them up. Conceded 3 or more goals on 7 occasions, including a 5-0 and three 4-0 defeats.
this is a great video with some stories i was not aware of. groningen was a team i always chose while playing pes 12-13, its sad to see them like that. by the way if you think to make a video opposite of this - teams who had a great season after disasterous previous seasons - definitely add galatasaray, who became comfortably champions after finishing 13th in super lig.
You should do a video on Eskişehirspor, once a top flight team in Süper Lig that competed in European competitions got relegated to Ametuer Leagues this season in a span of 6 seasons.
Shoutout to my home club Aalborg BK who got relegated from the Danish Superliga for the first time ever this season. The first time they are not in the danish top flight since 1986.
Plymouth Argyle’s story since 2010, from nearly folding as a club and dropping out of the EFL, to winning League 1 on 101 points with a mid table budget definitely deserves to be covered in a video. It’s criminally under-discussed by national media outlets.
Probably a long shot as there wouldn't be that much demand, could you do a video about Australian football again? Either Ange and his links to Spurs which have enraged Spurs fans or the drama around Melbourne Victory and pitch invasions?
I was thinking of something like countries with a disproportionate amount of national team players in a foreign league. Baccus, Kuol, Behich, Boyle, Atkinson, Rowles, Strain and Mooy all played in Scotland this year.
AIK solna here in Stockholm, sweden is in one of two automatic relegation spots, they have a 50,000 seater stadium biggest in Sweden. Aik is doing extremely terrible only managed to get 6 points so far this season after 10 out of 30 matches has been played. I never thought AIK would do this badly even if I am supporter of Hammarby another Stockholm club in the allvsenskan, the highest division.
I think it's a bit harsh to say a season is a disaster at the 1/3 mark, AIK have time to play better and avoid that still, but its going to be a bad season either way.
Lechia is such a massive meme. But gotta admit that they are being run in such a bad way, they tend to overpay mediocre players from other leagues. The Lechia "fans" also had a beef (they fought each other) with Lechia fans when they played in Conference League qualifications which was new even for our Polish standards (at least fight the rival fans guys, least you can do)
12:57 Even that is not the case. According to the contract with the city of Gdańsk, which is the owner of Stadion Gdańsk, in case of relegation, Lechia cannot use this stadium in Fortuna 1 Liga (2nd division) and go back to their old stadium with capacity of less than 10k seats.
I think you had a video detailing the financial crisis at Leicester City about a year ago, more or less. That video stuck with me throughout this season. And you were 100% correct. Had Leicester stayed up then next season would have been the same thing. They were going to have to battle relegation next season. I just wonder if they’re going to clear out their front office and fire those who helped get them to this point?
Surprised you didnt mention Partizan Belgrade. Huge club that finished 4th in a season where Serbian superliga has 2 ucl spots, the club is in huge debt, fans are protesting against club board etc.
Bedford Town got promoted from the 8th tier of the pyramid last season. They were doing ok, but sacked the manager(and cut the budget after I believe). The next manager got sacked after a month, but it seems like he singlehandedly took them from a lower-mid table tier 7 team to the relegation zone. AFC Rushden and Diamonds(who had the lowest budget in the league) got in a good manager and they started winning games. All of a sudden, Bedford looked in trouble, with Hednesford doing everything to save themselves(4 went down from this league). All three went down with King's Langley, but most of them gave it a go. Apart from Bedford, who ended the season 10 games without a goal and finished bottom of the league.
Leicester City I would say when you look at the likes of Barnes and Morriston and a few others they should have had more than enough quality to avoid relegation from the EPL
One year on: Trabzonspor finished 3rd this year, miles off the top two Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, but comfortably 3rd while qualifying for the Europa League, and making the final of the Turkish cup Chelsea went on a great run to finish 6th in the Premier League Santa Clara won the Liga Portugal 2, popping straight back up, and made the quarterfinal of the Taça de Portugal (where they lost to Porto) Dundee United won the Scottish Championship, popping straight back up Lechia Gdansk won the Polish I Liga, popping straight back up Groningen came 2nd in the Eerste Divisie, popping straight back up, and went on a run to the KNVB Cup semi-finals, where they lost to Feyenoord and while Wigan didn't get promoted back to the Championship, they were nowhere near relegation, finishing 12th (would have been 10th if not for their points deduction) So all 7 teams likely feel better now than they did a year ago (debatably Chelsea with Pocchetino gone)
The story of Farul Constanța romanian champions this season winning their first (or maybe second?) title. Club owned, run and managed by romanian legend Gheorghe Hagi, a native of the city of Constanța. Youngest champions in Europe this season (average players age), important contribution (some of the vital) from: 2 players born in 2005, one in 2006, 1 in 2003 and 3 in 2002 - all products of the club academy. Came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 in the decisive match against Gigi Becali's team FCSB(who has a claim to Steaua Bucharest history).

Dundee United is a good shout, being Scottish I was shouting about Glasgow rangers. From europa league finalists to the record holding whipping boys of the champions leage, the fact their rivals won a comfortable record 8th treble leaving them with no trophies and losing their most valuable players who are out of contract (morelos and kent), with some fans thinking they were worth 25m each. Obviously not relegated, not looking like they go bust again (yet). They have a massive rebuild. The only cause of celebration for them was the celtic manager leaving for spurs. And they seemed ecstatic about it.
Hey Alfie Video idea could you talk about Andorran football and how this year two big clubs in Sant Julia and Engordany who were competing in European football this season were shockingly relegated. Also maybe something about the rise of Gerard Pique’s club Andorra FC.
The fact that Everton nearly got relegated again with a squad held together by duct tape and dreams , had the board create a rumor that fans put the ceo in a headlock, have seen fan protests just about every week, fired Lampard at the end of the transfer window after making 0 signings, face potential financial penalties, and have a relationship between the board and fans that’s so bad the board stopped coming to home games yet still couldn’t even crack the dishonorable mentions is absolute insanity.
Correction: when the video was released, Hellas Verona hadn’t been relegated and had a match to play and were equal on points with Spezia who sat just outside the relegation zone. Still, a bad season for them
Interesting how many of these teams seem to be in europa or conference leagues - i wonder if the extra fixtures actually lead to trouble for small clubs?
9:07 as a benfica fan who has some sympathy for cd santa clara (they're from my dad's hometown) i too can't understand how they haven't changed their badge yet. it's embarassing, however nothing unique in portuguese football! see sporting covilhã's (relegated from 2ª liga) badge and compare it to some of the old sporting cp badges, or fc alpendorada from the 4th tier (fc porto), or even os armacenences (os belenenses), fc vale formoso (boavista), etc. there's tons of former satellite clubs with badges that are basically the same as our bigger clubs, especially the big 3, santa clara is simply the most mediatic case due to their success
Me, before video: What could be worse than Chelsea and Leicester, two clubs that I support? Me, after the video: Oh. So Leicester's relegation wasn't exactly _THAT_ bad of a result... I suppose?
Just so you know, Verona and Spezia are still tied on points with one match remaining so they’re not done for yet, especially since if the points are tied a playoff will be played for safety. Also Sampdoria was very much robbed of the main list
Saint Etienne had a disastrous first half of the season and they looked in danger of being relegated to the Championnat National, a 6-0 home defeat to Le Havre being a notable low. Their form improved greatly however- currently in 10th with one match to go, could still finish as high as 6th (where they would have been if it weren't for the three point deduction as punishment for a pitch invasion at the end of last season). Therefore I think it harsh to mention them here.

Chelsea somehow not finishing in the bottom quarter of the league, based of their performances, was a shock
Alfie, Hellas Verona haven't been relegated, yet, they are joint on points with Spezia with a single game left, though both teams have difficult away games against team in the top 6.
To be fair he probably meant that they went from 9th in Serie A to a relegation battle team.
Thanks so much for bringing attention to the situation at Wigan. It's a total nightmare.
Similar to what's gone on here at Southend United, which is where Wigan could find themselves in a few seasons time if it keeps going this way.
Update: Rosenborg just lost 2-1 to a tier 3 club, Stjørdals-Blink in the Norwegian cup!
@@knutolavhalseth6761 I think people are more excited about Bode because they are "new" so to speak. Molde already has history.
Nice video as always! I'd like to see one about the overachivers of the season.
Selling their top scorer worked out absolutely terribly for Wisła Płock. Just in time for the opening of the rest of their stadium
@@thomasjohnson2862 Yeah, this is going to be the saddest stadium opening ever I believe
His engagement with the fans has given some belief despite the apathy from higher up
Yeah he didn't manage to heavily improve our form but from where we were it's a miracle we even came close
Day 12: 7 Best Loan moves ever.
The loan moves that have greatly benefited the team receiving the player for a limited amount of time. While not exactly the best, I always think of Morientes to Monaco as an example.
I know many people have joked about how bad Chelsea has been, but I have to wonder if they have any clue how to bounce back
You videos are absolute !!! Wonderful quality ... Brilliant !
"Courts may have failed in the Hungarian capital"
I see what you did there and I love the joke.
Since you mentioned Melbourne Victory (which pleasently surprised me) could you do a video on Australian Football in the last 20/30 years and how on earth they managed to overachieve at the most recent World Cup, even with the sad, wild and borderline laughable state of the game in the country as we speak? Would be interested to see your thoughts on the country's relationship with the sport.
Good friends,I was totally disappointed with one of my favourites ever Dundee United surprisingly being relegated in the Scottish Premiership as well as one of my favourites ever Trabzonspor struggling in the Turkish Superliga and not to forget one of my favourites as well Groningen but I am extremely so happy see my one of my hated teams ever Chelsea having the worst season to enjoy!!!🙏
Scumdee United will hopefully die
Ha,as soon as Jim Goodwin went there after his shitshow in Aberdeen,I knew they'll get relegated
@@deadmansfire A massive unfortunate though as he was trying to salvage his reputation as a good manager but turned out to be a flop, good friend!!!🏋️♂️
@@freeallthewildordie5398 Nah, that only happens to clubs with fans that let their clubs die, like what happened to Rangers.
About the Santa Clara logo, there was a poll where partners (it's confusing, basically you can buy a partnership with the club in Portugal because of SADs (I think)) and there was a beautiful logo that went into the final round but they preferred to keep the old, truly another New Zealand situation
First time I watch your videos, it's really good! My advice would be to have a bit of background music, would make it more watchable 👍 keep it up
8:40 Football teams travelling by plane is bad for the environment.
Distance derby? That sounds like an oxymoron given derbies are matches between teams from the same city... or region at least.
Brilliant, interesting & funny. Great work Alfie.
20:43 For those wondering what's on the banners:
"This was never allowed to happen"
"This will be never be forgotten nor forgiven!"
"Fledderus (ex player and now technical director of the club): persona non grata (Latin for unwelcome person)"
"No more place for ego and favouritism in club management"
Still can't believe Alfie didn't plug in his FC Santa Claus video while passing around that
#3 LECHIA GDAŃSK
On the last game of the season on that big stadium Lechia won 1-0 with the second team of the league by scoring 98' shot from its own half, one matchday later, on their final game of the season, they lost due to their 'fans' who demolished the away stadium in like 30' or so, and the fans got 7-month ban on the away games
I would personally add Getafe and Elche. Getafe from Europe League football to relegation battle and Elche having ruled by agent and relegated easily to Segunda
I thought Elche was bad, but it was effectively ran by an agent instead of a GM.
GD Chaves due to that actually chose not to play the conference league next season despite qualifying for it
Predictions for upcoming videos.
The rise of Luton town
The moral panic on pitch invasions
The fairness of the play offs
He’s already made a rose of Luton vid
Rise*
Already did the Luton one
Could you do a video on a combined 11 of the best players outside Europes top 5 leagues?
Peak spurs we can't even make the top 7 in the terrible seasons list.
Spurs was a joke when it comes to trophy, even with Harry Kane 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@ezraezra2928 I… I know? I watch every match lmao
Sampdoria being relegated from the Seria A certainly is big news considering they were once a part of the 7 sisters triology of clubs in Italy in the 1990s during the glory days of Seria A and were both cup winners cup champions and European Cup finalists during the early 90s
Also, Genoa replace Sampdoria in Serie A next season
When the Eredivisie was mentioned, I kind of thought it would be about Ajax. Which by all means have actually had a horrendous season as literally everyone in the Netherlands already knows. But yeah nothing compares to Groningen, I feel kind of bad about it too since Robben himself still played to keep them from relegation a while ago. Though it's now said that he might help in their internal workings regardless, so maybe we'll see that again.
Yay, my hometown team finished 1st in an HITC Sevens listing! 🎉
Literally the only thing to give last season any shine at all!
Hallo bas. Bas hier. Ja eens ons team was echt kk slecht maar dit geeft t nog wel wat
Forza FCG💚🤍
@@whythoughbeats6335 Geen zorgen joh, over een paar jaar is het weer Robben to the rescue 😂😂
Groningen has had such a bad season that they gathered 8/17 points in their first 6 games. I live in the city of Groningen now and at one point the 'supporters' made sure the Ajax Groningen match would be cancelled and they made posts online before the game that they will do everything what it takes to cancel any form of play
"who I made a separate video about"
Verona aren't relegated yet, they can still beat Spezia in the play-off and stay up
Shoutout to my home club Aalborg BK who got relegated from the Danish Superliga for the first time ever this season.
3:13 Trabzonspor
5:39 Chelsea
8:01 Santa Clara
9:48 Dundee United
12:13 Lechia Gdansk
14:50 Wigan Athletic

The Lechia "fans" also had a beef (they fought each other) with Lechia fans when they played in Conference League qualifications which was new even for our Polish standards (at least fight the rival fans guys, least you can do)
Looking forward to your video on RC Lens Alfie, what a story!
Would something similar have happened to Šlask Wrocław if they were relegated? It was very nearly both them and Lechia Gdańsk relegated.
L+OST+GEBIETE ... !
What a video, Alfie!! Still waiting on the Best XI from sub-Saharan African clubs!!
Surprised you didnt mention Partizan Belgrade. Huge club that finished 4th in a season where Serbian superliga has 2 ucl spots, the club is in huge debt, fans are protesting against club board etc.
BTW there is a FC Santa Claus. They play in the Finnish 4th tier in the Northern division. And are based in Rovaniemi.
My bad, they also had a bad season and got relegated to the 5th tier for this season.
On a brighter note, I went to Gdansk too and I agree, its a thoroughly lovely city!
I think Anderlecht and Dynamo Kyiv deserve a mention too
Anderlecht has been struggling for 3 years tho
I love this guy! “Hopefully you enjoyed it, prob not of your team featured….never mind” haha! Legend!
One year on:
Trabzonspor finished 3rd this year, miles off the top two Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, but comfortably 3rd while qualifying for the Europa League, and making the final of the Turkish cup
Chelsea went on a great run to finish 6th in the Premier League
Santa Clara won the Liga Portugal 2, popping straight back up, and made the quarterfinal of the Taça de Portugal (where they lost to Porto)
Dundee United won the Scottish Championship, popping straight back up
Lechia Gdansk won the Polish I Liga, popping straight back up
Groningen came 2nd in the Eerste Divisie, popping straight back up, and went on a run to the KNVB Cup semi-finals, where they lost to Feyenoord
and while Wigan didn't get promoted back to the Championship, they were nowhere near relegation, finishing 12th (would have been 10th if not for their points deduction)
So all 7 teams likely feel better now than they did a year ago (debatably Chelsea with Pocchetino gone)
As a Leeds fans I’m delighted we weren’t mentioned, although the bamford photo had me worried😂
As an Arsenal fan glad we ain't on this anymore

Please make a video What the Earth is Going On with Sampdoria, a former Italian champion which also European Cup runners-up. They are going down to Serie B next season when they are rock bottom side in Serie A this season. Sampdoria also have problem with their finance and chaos around the dressing room and the board.

Video 2 of asking Alfie to do a video on South African football and the problems with it.
Hey Alfie
Video idea could you talk about Andorran football and how this year two big clubs in Sant Julia and Engordany who were competing in European football this season were shockingly relegated.
Still, a bad season for them
Arminia Bielefeld should’ve been included. They got relegated to the 2 Bundesliga in 2022 and got relegated again next year
Interesting how many of these teams seem to be in europa or conference leagues - i wonder if the extra fixtures actually lead to trouble for small clubs?
I suppose?
5:21 That's an interesting way to pronounce Nenad Bjelica
Just so you know, Verona and Spezia are still tied on points with one match remaining so they’re not done for yet, especially since if the points are tied a playoff will be played for safety. Also Sampdoria was very much robbed of the main list
Looking forward to the forthcoming Wigan video, didn't realise it had got so bad
Good to see you are from the future and already saw Verona are relegated 1 round before the end despite tying Spezia on points.
Video Request: What On Earth Is Going On At Southampton, Sampdoria, Portadown, Rochdale, Espanol And Nantes?
Saint Etienne had a disastrous first half of the season and they looked in danger of being relegated to the Championnat National, a 6-0 home defeat to Le Havre being a notable low. Their form improved greatly however- currently in 10th with one match to go, could still finish as high as 6th (where they would have been if it weren't for the three point deduction as punishment for a pitch invasion at the end of last season). Therefore I think it harsh to mention them here.
Look into Cosenza from Serie B, a team which constantly is changing squad and manger but always somehow survives in Serie B, Would be a great watch Serie B in general is mad.
I guess what we need now is a video of 7 teams who had great seasons.
By that, I mean teams who over-achieved beyond their wildest dreams.
2022-2023 is the greatest football season (in general) i can remember (i am 50).
Some veru good football, mbut mainly some great stories...
The winter World Cuo was surprisngly good, Messi winning it, Haaland in the UK, City likely to get the treble, a Manchester FA Cup, the comedic collapse of Cheslki, the relegation of Leicester ( nothing personal, just they were champions 7 uears ago), the rise of Brighton....
