Hey guys! : BioShock is Mike's favourite Game Franchise and Rapture is one of his favourite locations in a video game. He never knew an area looking so similar to it was in the game, and after a rather emotional heavy MSQ before this, seeing it really blew him away and took him by surprise!
Every time I replay this part of the game, the first sight of drowned Amaurot with the ticking clock of Neath Dark Waters behind it always makes me cry.
I legit go back here from time to time when I'm a bit stressed and just fly around with the bgm on 100. The eerie calm of this zone is truly unmatched. (If the music in EW last zone stayed as it was when you first got in, it would've gotten the same treatment for me)
I have a friend who started playing over the summer, I made an alt to go through the story alongside him. When we got to ShB and were in Kholusia for the first time he wondered why you couldn't dive into the water. My response was something to the effect of "I doubt there would be much of a point, like what would they put under there? Rapture?" he laughed and then like, a month later I played through this moment with him and he was just as in awe as Preach. This moment in the game is so magical.
@@Steamcrow See, for me, THAT moment is the guitar riff. Remember is good. But if you could take one more step. I cry every time. Hated that character for so long, but fuck me if he didn't win me over.
Personally i didn't cry until the 5.3 msq. As to not spoil Preach if he by chance reads this all i will say is Seto. The baby scene and "the walk" in EW also broke me.

Agreed. Even after playing the latest expansion, Amaurot is still my favourite area. It just gives me this wistful longing and a sense of home that I love. :) I may or may not have bought a million of those wall lights... I also wish they would let you buy the street lights.
@@Altearithe I did that too! Well, in my FC room anyway. Waiting for Ishgard before I buy an apartment, and the housing market on Mateus is pretty savage. It's such a beautiful theme though. :)
For me, It’s that damn ticking. You get to the most beautiful area in the game and this haunting musical theme is playing, and it’s got that monotone ticking playing in time underneath…and even though you don’t have the full context for what Emet and Ascians went through just yet, your heart figures it out instantly-it’s a ticking clock for the final days the ancients went through. It just makes the zone even more emotionally devasting.
@@DrollLondon Adding that ticking to the background of a song is a great way of conveying the march of time, either towards some final point or simply conveying its onward motion into eternity. Another song from a different game that did it quite well is the Aeon's theme from Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous called 'The Cosmic Balance'.
Go figure that the earliest footage of what would become FF14 was a tech demo from E3 2005 named "Rapture" showing a city that looked an awful lot like the Crystarium.
Yup, Another rapture. The first time they teased crystariun, I think of that trailer immediately. Amarout is one of my favorite sections in the entire game. Very little combat until the very end, but it's such a great execution of story and mood that it ends up being extremely memorable. Especially because of our New Old Friend.
I've watched so many Streams of Big Streamers going through the ffxiv story, but THIS, this moment is definitely the most wholesome moment i've seen up to date. Like the whole beauty in Mike realizing they put in a resamblance of rapture into this game in the part of a Story where it really started to completely go nuts and just take in the scenery and then the guy mounting the whale. I couldn't help but start to cry myself because it was so beautiful to see.
The majestic moment of seeing Amaurot followed by the bittersweet revelation that this feeling is what Emet was fighting to preserve... God's Shadowbringers stuck their landing!
The way they give you this city is amazing. For the longest time, you are stuck in a boring plain underwater location doing quests. Then suddenly BOOM, bit beautiful city, enhanced experience and all. Whoever planned this is a fantastic person.
That ticking clock just fills me with emotion every time I hear it. The Amarot theme is I think my favorite song in FF14. I would just sit in Amarot and listen to that music for hours.
It's so good in ways I can't fully articulate. I've got a friend who I'm trying to support through her ARR+ quests, but it's where she quit last time. That's valid, but if I could just get her to cross that threshold, I'm confident it'll win her over.
This is why we try so hard not to spoil anything for others, because that awestruck emotion keeps hitting us when others discover it as well and we that have played past it can relive that experience with them all over again.
This part of the game was heavily inspired by book that explored some philosophy, called Utopia. It's about this city called Amaurot within the country of Utopia, framed from the writings of a fictional person named Hythloday, who is referenced within FFXIV in this section.
As someone who lives in the suburbs and hasn't been to a major city since lockdowns started, there's something magical about cities at night, something that's especially apparent after years of not experiencing it. All the buildings lit up, life all over and happy faces free from the workday, a cool night breeze winding through the streets, human civilisation lit by moon and star. I've missed those experiences and I'm sure others have too. Thank you FF14 for these feels.
This was an amazing moment, and one of the things that put Shadowbringers over the top and made it better than Heavensward. Wait till he gets to Endwalker.
I was apprehensive. How do you follow up shadowbringers? Surely endwalker will be at least a slight step back? No. It topped it again. I'm simply floored.
Now this is a humble request to the channel, just a request, no need to respond, assent, or even read this. Preach was totally surprised and floored by the existence of Amaurot in this game, and I thoroughly enjoyed the reaction as I remembered my own reaction to this scene. However, the word "Rapture" and the picture of the spires of Amaurot can potentially spoil anybody who's playing the game and using youtube, as the picture and words can show up in their youtube feed without needing to play this video. Therefore I humbly suggest to change the title and cover picture so as to minimize this from happening. "Minimize", since there are other videos too of doing this, but at least let us lessen the chance of it happening. Thank you for reading this if you got to this.

The most ping reliant job is machinist where having more than 100 ping is kinda sad to play, the rest is doable and can be adjusted using enough haste (sps/sks) also high end raiding is possible with high ping too as mechanics are more scripted.
@@ftran789 Good to know. I'll check their site to see if some job picks my interest the most.
A screenshot I took of that city from that very hill has been my desktop background since Shadowbringers came out. Absolutely breathtaking.
that scene was the first time i screenshot for my desktop background.
i can’t express how happy it makes me to see other folks enjoy this game 😊
So glad to see reactions like this :)
I just realised this is the first city skyline ish has ever seen properly. Like everything here pulses with magic. She can see everything, in detail.
Dammm, so happy for Preach, big props to Nups and the Player with the Whale mount as well.
I've waited 👏all👏frigging👏week for this reaction. I'm glad I was there to watch it live.
Neath Dark Waters is such an amazing theme. Probably my favorite.
I didn't know preach like rapture, even though ive been on the channel for a year. Welcome to the grand city, which is in fact underwater
It totally went over my head that this was Rapture from bioshock. My first thought was oh boy... i hope there is flying, eventually in this zone. haha
I just want to buy and play the game :( this is awesome preach. You’re recent videos over the past 2 months have made me want to play ff14. Finally had time off around Christmas and went to buy it, but the game is so good that they’ve run out of server space
Don't worry we're getting new ones soonish
26th is when new accounts can be made once more
Imagine spoiling nearly the whole story and all the cool moments by watching preach play damn.
Hope you get to play soon homie
I can't wait to see you in Eorzea, friend! I'll keep the door open for you!
Amaurot is somethging else. Blew me away first time I saw the city.
This was a top quality stream, it was amazing
If the weather is decent you can see the cities light earlier
and we love you Preach
Amaurot is something that you gotta see (or sea) to believe. It really is a stunning piece of environment in the game.
Amaurot is what brought everything to it's core for me in Shadowbringers. I'm glad Mike got the same response.
When homie flew in on the whale I died.
This was such a beautiful moment.
When I first saw this I was totally in aww as well.... sooo good.
love u too Preach
Please tell me we're gonna get the reaction to the final dungeon to
Yep! The vods will be on our VODs channel but I'll upload the final dungeon over here too
Feelsbringers
I swear theres so many moments in this game where you simply stop for a second and take it all in, and all you could say is "whoa"
What a wholesome clip.
It kinda reminds me of Midgar from its modern architecture. Really cool nonetheless! Can't wait to be able to buy the series and get into it! Get those chipsets rolling!
the look on his eyes when he saw it couldnt be better
That scene blew me away too…
when i went through this, different reference, same awe. R'lyeh and lovecraft
What a great moment.
All I can hear is the goddamn aether current nearby GET IT GET IT.
I spent a lot of time in Pinterest and twitter while leveling up, and got a lot of stuff spoiled unfortunately like graha and Gaius reveal but this was a real fkn surprise I was in awe just like him and said the exact same thing actually 😂 “are you fkn kidding me right now ?! 😳” this is still by far my favorite zone in the game even after finishing ew
Oooh fuck. I’m crying again
it's lovely to see a soulmate.. I had the exact same reaction to this reveal =)
that moment when i got there was like woahh, i never thought about bioshock tho
Dude I wanted cityscapes in this game ever since I stepped foot in Limsa. I never thought it would happen
Amaurot remains my favourite zone yet. My go to AFK place.
They didn’t make Aumorot because of Rapture, they giving us what they promised in SB, the 2 small little villages we got, Tamamizu and the other one, weren’t enough in anyway. And “New York but in a different location” genre is what gave birth to Rapture and the other floating one birth.
