  • Simple Theory for Great Improvisations
This really changed the way I thought about building lines and is a big part of my teaching process when helping students construct their improvisations. I use this concept literally every time I play a gig and you can to once you understand this one key principle :)

This is a good one! LOl Always good to hear what the other players are thinking. Interesting how many different ways of original problem solving are floating around in the global community jazz bubble. It reveals how resourceful we are in our own sweet ways!

Thanks and much appreciated! I think solid innovative ideas become the way people think and bad ideas tend to not get much traction but I will agree that there are a lot of them out there! I'm all about saving people time by showing things that really helped me make connections as a performer and (hopefully) will be easy to use in all situations for anybody who loves this stuff as much as we do :)

Great video, Steve! Somehow my brain never put together that half-diminished 7th chords are connected to the Locrian mode. Thanks for helping me realize that! Makes it much easier now that I know that. Excellent ideas here. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Luanne! There’s a lot of ‘experts’ out there that don’t really know how to explain this stuff so I’m happy to be out here clearing things up where and when possible :) that is a tricky one and there are some options there but by starting there it will help to hear the sound clearly and to understand the other possibilities on that chord 👍🏼

Thank you, this is a good video....and it's reinforcing some of the things I am learning (from you now) in the prerecorded Studio class for BetterSax.

Thanks Laura :) This is a really useful tool that I use all the time in my own teaching, I don't hear a ton of teachers talk about it much but I'm sure it is not a new idea. Enjoy!
