    FINALLY Someone who can actually make REAL Tutorials. Very nicely done. Perfect length and no fumbling around and side track discussions like other tutorials out there. Well if you consider this intermediate I'd really like to see your advanced stuff.!! I am sure it will be quite challenging but with your approach quite FUN. Thanks again for a great tutorial.

    For those wondering about the lack of 'Fast Blur' in more recent versions of AE, please try 'Gaussian Blur' instead of the recommended Fast Box Blur - Gaussian does the same job and the settings are the same as seen on screen in this tutorial. You could use Fast Box Blur, but the settings are different to those shown in the tutorial, which may confuse some users at that crucial end point. Gaussian Blur provides the same great result as seen in the video.
    10/10 tutorial! Fast, clean, no rambling, and now my project looks sooo much better than what I was going to hand in - thank you! I've subbed.

    The one problem I had originally working with Particles was I never realized in order to stop them from being produced you have to animate the birth rate to 0. I figured it out through this tutorial, and it seems so simple but I think that may be a problem others who are new to particles may have. My first several I created were infinite. So my tip to beginners in particles is to remember to animate the birth rate to 0 when you want them to stop.

      +Surfaced Studio That`d be a cool effect but would like it to be digital and more "ink-on-paper-ish". Only seen tutorials where you need plugins, so maybe its out of AE`s reach as a standalone feature.

      +Крекер Hi, the easiest way to achieve that (without doing a complete 3D effect) is simply to use some bullet shell stock footage. Here's a post on where I get mine: www.surfacedstudio.com/blog/best-action-stock-footage-for-film-making-visual-effects

    Not sure what happened, but after entering the expression (which has no errors), the number next to birth rate is in red at 0.0, and I can alter it, but as soon as I accept a new number (20 as you said in the video, but any number) it reverts back to 0.0 in red, and no sparks are showing up in my comp. Not sure what I did wrong. Expressions are my weakness in after effects for sure.
    I know this tut is old, but seems like a basic VFX skill worth knowing!

    Can you make a tutorial going over how to use the AE CC 2015 Face Tracker? I've scoured the internet, and I still don't know what expressions I need to properly anchor a layer to multiple face points, thus making things GENUINELY look like masks; the layer translates and rotates along with the face, as well as the perspective changing if the subject were to twist their head to the side.

    • @liamwiebe5272

      Liam Wiebe All I know is, in the video on Adobe's website, they show off what the Face Tracker can be used for. And in the final product, the masks they put on their subjects LOOK realistic.

    • @SurfacedStudio
      @SurfacedStudio  9 років тому

      +Poker_ Fce You can slow down the frame-rate but that won't give you good looking slow-motion. For proper slow motion you have to shoot your footage with a high frame rate, then slow them down to e.g. 24FPS. There is also Twixtor (plug-in) but it can be a bit hit and miss depending on the shot you are trying to slow down

    Hey Tobias, got another question for you (You've answered me before regarding something different before, and it was easy to follow and to the point, which is nice).
    I've watched your glow tutorial, and I'm trying to to re-color an explosion in my footage to red, but can't seem to get it looking natural... I've tried the Change to Color effect, but that doesn't seem o do anything to my bright explosion, and when it does it looks blocky. If there any way around that? A different effect perhaps?
    I've also tried just adding a round shape and have it glow red, but that just looks unnatural.
    Thanks!

    • @SurfacedStudio
      @SurfacedStudio  9 років тому

      +Taha C Hi, it might be tricky to make an explosion all red and still look 'natural'. I would give the Curves effect a try and bring down the G and B channels. Or you could use a Hue/Saturation effect OR try the awesome Color Vibrance plugin from Video Copilot (it's free)

    • @tcutchi
      @tcutchi 9 років тому

      Thanks for the reply! I'll definitely give all those a shot a little later (though I think I've tried adjusting curves already), I'm having some CPU heat issues atm and don't wanna overwork it until it's taken care of =]

      +Poker_ Fce Hey, thanks for the feedback. The intro is all manually animated splat layers I created in Photoshop. Then added some Twitch (for glitch effects) and used Video Copilot's Disintegration tutorial for the text :)

    +Surfaced Studio How do you make the particles appear at preset times instead of random ones (like you did with your hand). I am making a lightsaber battle scene and need the sparks to appear only when the lightsabers collide.

    • @SurfacedStudio
      @SurfacedStudio  7 років тому +1

      Just animate the birth rate to come in / out when you need it to - no need to use an expression for that
