      @leontasch 5 років тому +56

He mentioned the concept in a show. The concept is Djesse symbolises a certain space (a little like the universe if you’re into science).
Volume 1 is this vast open space with large sounds and broad orchestral music.
Volume 2 is where this space shrinks down into a smaller volume, and by doing this heats up a little, and everything becomes cozier and more tranquil for Volume 2.
The space continues shrinking until it’s compressed into a single point of everything packed together madly. That’s where Volume 3 is found. I’m pretty sure Jacob said something along the lines of “it gets real crazy in there”.
Finally, Volume 4 is a grand re-expansion of this space, growing out again, and I expect it’ll be a slight reflection on the past 3 volumes also.
Hope this helped, apologies if I’ve got anything wrong!

    [Verse 1]
The time has come for me to tell you
All  the things I really feel about you
'Cause  lately time's been moving on
And every day we seem to grow a little older, too
The more I think of you the less I seem
To  know the way I feel about you
And  all I think is all I know
And all I know is all I want to think about is you
    [Verse 2]
I  used to think I knew it all
And that the love you gave was mine for keeping
I guess I cared too much for you back then
To see the simple magic of it all
I  long to see the things we saw
When we were young and could not see so clearly
When all the world was just a blur of coloured lines
That I'd trace most sincerely back to you
    [Pre-Chorus]
    And you'd say
    [Chorus]
"Time to rest your weary head
Take your wings and go to bed
I know you want to know it all, my darling"
    And I'd say
"Set me down and rock me
    Rock me to sleep"
    [Verse 3]
I see the sparkle in your eyes
You say I'm beautiful and I believe you
And I will never feel more beautiful
Than when I'm wide awake beside you
I'll wander far and wide and wonder
How it feels to fall in love with someone
Without the need to show her everything I've learnt
About the world since you've been gone
    [Pre-Chorus]
    And you'd say
    [Chorus]
"Time to rest your weary head
Take your wings and go to bed
I know you want to show it all, my darling"
    And I'd say
"Set me down and rock me
    Rock me to sleep"
    [Verse 4]
There was a time it seemed the time itself
Was free and would go on forever
Wanted to cling to it but now I see
Its fading is its greatest treasure, ooh
    [Pre-Chorus]
    And you would say
    [Chorus]
"Time to rest my weary head
Take my wings and go to bed
I know you want to feel it all, my darling"
    And I'd say
"Sit me down and rock me, oh
Sit me down and rock me, oh darling
Sit me down and rock me
    Rock me to sleep"

For my money, the most important influence behind this stunning masterpiece is the work of Joni Mitchell. The special guitar tuning. The vulnerable confessionality, new for Jacob. The craft. There are probably many ways to take this lyric, but for me the key is in the chorus, sung by and to a person who truly, really sees you, sees that those wings need rest and comfort from the effort of wanting to feel, to know, it all. That sounds like the Jacob I hear when I listen to his music.

Me and someone I cared for very deeply parted ways about a month ago. It’s made me very unsure of what the future holds or if I’ll even have a future worth living. You become so connected to the person you love that not having them around can make you feel lost, like the only thing you cared about is gone. This song makes me rethink that train of thought, because in it’s helplessness and tragedy, it’s unmistakably beautiful. With a sunset there must be a sunrise, when night comes it means day is right around the corner, although it may be dark now the light will soon come. There is always hope no matter how hopeless you feel. Whether you’ve lost somebody, been through a breakup, or just feel lost, there will always come a day when you feel better.

This year, in April, someone I fell in love with loved me too, for the first time in my life. While we chatted, I usually listened to this song. It made me feel so much along with how we talked. So pretty. Albeit being young (19 yo), it was the happiest I've been in my life. Sadly, it ended not much later, and now I cannot listen to it, because it takes me back to that moment, and makes me think of it and think and feel the loss of not having it anymore. I wish, I truly wish, I will be able to listen to it again, with another girl that decides to love me. I don't know when that's gonna be, but i know that when it happens, this song is gonna be played a lot on my phone.

I'd really love to hear Jacob do an album of just one instrument and him singing. Maybe mix it up with some piano and guitar on different tracks... As amazing as all of his other stuff is, the vulnerability in this (and the solo piano stuff he did with Mahogany Sessions) is sooo powerful!

This is old but I'm sorry for your loss.. I still grieve my beloved cat Quinn of 8 years since he passed in early February. I listened to this song just after and so it always makes me think of him. I remember just the day before I had picked him up and placed him on my chest with his head under my chin and he fell asleep on me. I didn't know he would be gone forever the next day. I was so obsessed with him and he was all I'd talk about every day 😭
I buried him as well, and I like to play this song looking at his burial, which is under the tree he used to hide under. Part of me wishes I wasn't there when he was put down, but I felt like I needed to be there with him to the very end.

But when I close my eyes and listen to your music, I feel that beauty is still in the world and life is worth living. Your music gives me the kind of strength few things give me in the world. What i take away from this video is, no matter if you stand and watch something, you wont understand the beauty in the moment. It is only the memory of the moment that causes you to realize what had actually happened. You can stand and stare at the earth like jacob in this video, but you will never realize the beauty of it all until you look back and see what truly happened.

It's in songs like this where Jacob is best, in my opinion. His beautiful ear for melody and progressive harmony shines in the simplistic context, and is not overshadowed by the, sometimes fun, sometimes too chaotic, cacophony of instruments and theory. This is truly beautiful, and shows what an extraordinary genius he is.

"I'll wander far and wide and wonder
How it feels to fall in love with someone
Without the need to show her everything I've learnt
About the world since you've been gone"
God, that hits close to home. This may be the most tragically beautiful song I've ever heard. Usually I can get through stuff, but I can never get through this song when it comes on at the end of the album.

There it is again, the descriptive word "wholesome" as applied to Jacob's music. From decadence and maladjustment from attitude over craftsmanship, I am glad we have turned this cultural corner and embraced an artist who makes intelligence sexy, depth more delicious than superficiality, and embraces art that is truly timeless....
