Thank you very much! You are one of the few that actually know how to teach a novice like me. I love the pace and explanation. I just felt like other professionals I have seen were only showing me that they know what they are doing; and that works for people who are no longer beginners.
Hey Matt! PLEASE READ THIS !!! Do you know how painful it is to watch these two GREAT videos (Part 1 & Part 2) and look in vain for Part 3? At the end of Part 2, you said there would be a part 3. Please provide us with the ever-elusive Part 3! (And if there's a Part 4, please include that also!) Your tutorials are PURE GOLD, but you kept us hanging all this time waiting on Part 3. I've checked back periodically to see if you ever made it. It's still nowhere to be found. Please make this right. I'm a big fan Matt, but you're killing me. I'm sure I speak for others here on your channel.
I wish you would create more videos! You explained it so simple! It’s genius!
Thank you, the best tutorial about busses, aux and sends by far. Too bad for us you didn't continue with part 3.
Congrats Matt. Even years later you're still making an impact. You should be made an honorary Irishman!
Oh boy that school bus analogy! I've gone through at least five videos that brought that up and yet managed to quickly complicate the tutorial enough that I began to think my IQ was not high enough to get it. You're the only guy who did not waste much time on the school bus analogy and yet explained buses and sends so well that it feels like its actually very simple. Thanks man.
Speaking as an educator, I love your approach. You use industry terms, but you actually explain what they are and what they do in a way that the other 99% can understand. You've earned a sub from me. :)
Thanks for making it super simple, other people made it way more complicated then it needed to be.
Thanks Matt! New to audio production and needed a concise explanation of what Busses are and a visual for how they're used in PT. Cheers. And yes, would love that part 3 vid :)
Man, you are the only one which words I could understand properly and clear! thanks!
Please keep making these videos. I watched this three times and got my templates down. You are excellent!
Excellent explanation for beginners and those who need to refresh the basics. I recommended it to other folks!
This has really helped! I know the basics of just recording in pro. Tools, but not mixing my own stuff! Didn't know it was that simple!
The best video on the subject, keep them coming
Thank you!! I'm working Part 3 right now, keep an eye out for it next week!
You routed concept in my brain in a beautiful way. Subscribed.
Very well presented and explained. Your a natural teacher.
+Withering i Thank you! Let me know if there are any other topics you’d like me to discuss in the future!

Wow... you broke this down so easily, thank so much.
I greatly appreciate this video, busses and aux sends a pretty much clear to me now :) !
Thank you so much. I couldn’t even understand the other Pro Tools tutorials without understanding what a Bus was lol
Great video, explained better than anyone else I've heard yet! Thank You
Thanks Eric! I'll be sure to post more videos like this in the near future!
this was awesome, thanks matt. I really get it now.
Thanks Matt, this was very helpful.

Nice videos, trying to switch over to pro tools this was a lot of help thanks
You explain all of this stuff as if you are talking to a child, but I mean that in a good way haha. It's so calming and I can actually understand you. Just subscribed! Thanks for the info!! 😁

Your patience is much appreciated. Many tutorials are helpful yet sometimes go through the set up fuctions too quickly.
Still this is a Gem and a Jewel of a Template exercise.
Thank you for your sharing, it's really helpful.
Andy Choi my pleasure! If there are any other topics you'd like me to make a video on let me know!

@@MattReillyProductions thank you for replying my friend!!! I look forward to seeing your future vids on Pro Tools! Say.. Any idea on how to change the tempo of a song??? Ex: say I want my entrance very beginning to start slow oh say 80bpm for 30 seconds - then -jump up to 95bpm for rest of song... How do i do this ??? 2nd... Last question... Is better to do my beats/instrumental in FL Studio then bring the stems over into Pro Tools or is it just as ez to create a beat or Instrumental in Pro-Tools.?? Thanks M.R.Prod.
Excellent. Many thanks.
THANKS ALOT MATT!
you're like the bob ross of pro tools tutorials
Hi Matt! I have just come across your AWESOME tutorials "Getting Started with Pro Tools Parts 1 and 2". Like a lot of people who have commented, I cannot find Part 3!!!!!!!!! PLEASE can you release the next part of these incredibly useful tutorials!!!!! Could you also give me a timeline for when this is likely to happen. I cannot stress the importance of these tutorials to those, like me, who need a boost in their knowledge of the mind boggling Pro Tools DAW. Thank you so much Matt.
So helpful! Thanks
Excellent thank you!
Perfect you're sooooo good

Buckdub Johnson glad you liked the video! Try it this way and see how you like it!
I have a session tomorrow. . I will mos def try it out. I made template yesterday right after I watched your video... I'm excited to see how much more quicker your way is... thanks again
I finally get busses!
So helpful.... i wub u
I take it that Part 3 is not forthcoming Matt!!!!!!
hi i did not get part 3
How do I get the whole mixer track to change color?
Let's say I have two delay aux busses, can I use the same bus for both of them (to lower track sends) or is it better to keep them on their own bus?
All my Aux.Tracks say 'no input' after I try to choose a destination to send
I cant find part 3??
Just a quick Q.... at the start of your vid you created 5 aux tracks to route the output of the different groups of instruments, could you use VCA tacks for this? and if so why didnt you. I really appreciated you vid I'm just sort of self learning PT so excuse the Q, thanks in advance
Great video, thanks Matt. One question, on the latest version of ProTools I can send to an output, bus but also another track. I’ve been creating Aux tracks and then sending to them in this way... it just seems to be the same as an Aux send. What’s the difference?
Paul Motion thanks for checking out the video! I assume you’re talking about sending the output of a track directly to an Aux? The difference is when sending directly from the output, 100% of the signal is sent to the Aux. When sending to an Aux via a Send, a duplicate copy is sent to the Aux while the original output is left unaffected. This is great for reverb for example, as it leaves the original output in tact while allowing you to blend in the reverb to taste with the duplicated Aux Send signal. Hope this answers your question!
Hi Matt, thanks for replying, and so quickly! I have Pro Tools 2018 and if you look at the output options on a channel send you can see that you can send the signal to an Output, Bus or Track. It’s the Track output I’m curious about. Thanks so much.
Where do you find the command key?
The problem what I have is when I make the drum bus solo I get no sound. Maybe something is grouped wrong ? Shouldn't all drums be selected as solo too ?
Hi Matt I did not get part 3
Hi ! In your example you sent signals from individual input drum track to the drum reverbs. Was that for any reason and do we need to do it indivually for the four druminouts or can we send signals from the aux track that combines all drums to reverb ?
You’d want to add reverb to taste to each individual drum. The perfect amount of reverb on one drum will sound completely off on another (for example, kick drums are typically left dry in a mix while snares and toms almost always have added reverb.)
You explein very well... yea one thing i need to ask you. I have a problem. I have a plain vocal (without any effects) which I want to have a Reverb on. Now when I create the Aux track (Name it Reverb) and then do a send to Reverb and listen to it, it sounds like a decent reverb BUT there is an ADDED Flanger type of extra effect. IDK where is it coming from. If I listen to the vocal track, it sounds natural, But if I send it through to the SEND to the Reverb Aux OR send it through Output to the Reverb Aux, it adds Reverb PLUS that Flanger type effect. I am Using Protools 10HD and my effect is True Verb (stereo, Waves) IDK what I am doing wrong any of you guys can advise? help will be appreciated.
+jemsncrystals Thanks for checking out the video! Make sure the Reverb Aux Input you are running the vocal track to is stereo. Even if the vocal is a mono track, be sure to send it as a stereo bus to stereo aux input. Also, there are many different modes on the True Verb plug in. Be sure that the correct one is activated for the application you are using it for, such as Thru and Send etc.
+Matt Reilly Productions Hi. Thanks for the blazing fast reply. And yes, I am sending the vocal to Reverb Aux as a stereo. But it is still the same. I even have checked all other options as well. It is like when i am sending the Send to Reverb Aux, it just starts that annoying Flanger thingy irrespective of the True Verb being bypassed or active. It is a very faint flanger but i can hear it. IDK why this is happening or it is bound to do that?
+jemsncrystals Strange, you should not be getting that sound when sending to a reverb track. Have you tried swapping out the reverb plug-in itself? If it goes away when routing to D-Verb for example, you'll know it's an issue specifically inside True Verb.
+Matt Reilly Productions ya but no. This phaser even comes with no inserts at all. Just doubling the vox with the flanger it is.
Fucking genius
I never click Skip Ads: I Click: Skip Rubbish, instead.
What happened Matt that you never got around to making Part 3? I hope it wasn't something that caused you a lot of pain. Just perhaps something that diverted you from making Vids for UA-cam. Take care and God bless.
Haha I am pain free! I have been working as a producer in Los Angeles and am the bassist in Avril Lavigne’s band. As you can imagine, it’s been very difficult for me to find time to make UA-cam videos with my schedule!! But I am incredibly thrilled that my videos are giving tips and knowledge years after the fact!!
And just another ummmm errrr part3? It’s been nearly 2 years past next week lol
If your New to Ptools its a waste of time to stare at all the tracks instead of the menu at the top staring at the tracks an just talk.....
After watching several videos and still struggling with the ultimate concept of this, I really needed to hear this guys calming ass voice to stop me from punching a hole in my wall xD
