I opened this with the thought that I would skim through it but it felt so disrespectful to such wonderful talent that I ended up watching it from start to finish, totally enthralled.
The fist dancer is the best because she danced closest to proper Irish dancing both with her step and timing. The others put far too much unnecessary choreography into the music...
@@marieoconnell3010 i swear I see you everywhere hating on modern Irish dance. It’s not your place at all. Traditional dancing is still being done just not in these dances. Irish dance is still happening and that’s all that matters leave these amazing dancers alone

My dad was called John.xxx. john william jennings by birthright. Ended up john william smith/page-smith. 😢😢😢. I AM A JENNINGS. CHRISTINA LOUISE JENNINGS BY BLOOD.
Credit to all the Irish dancers ( I am an Irish dancer but not in that video ) I just wanted to ask, isn’t this illegal, I mean you’re not supposed to record and then posted on UA-cam as far as I’m told by the judges and the one who started all the feis’s.
@@majesticwolf2743 At least someone is considerate about this rule as well ;) I always try to obstruct people who have been told to stop recording and still do so when I see them doing that as soon as Primary-competitions end and they advance into Intermediate.

That's what I'd like to know. I competed in the NY area 30-38 years ago. John Jennings was roughly 4 years older than I, and I'm currently 47. If John Jennings Jr. in this video is the son of the John Jennings I knew in NY, I'd like to know which one he is - although I made a guess as to who he is based on the way that his father danced.🤷♀️
The tradition used to be that you'd wear your "Sunday Best" to compete, and curling your hair was part of that if you were a girl. That stuck going forward. I don't have an exact year on when the wigs started to appear, but my guess would be either late 90s or early 2000s, after Riverdance and LotD popularized Irish dance. I'm grateful for the wigs, to be honest -- my hair can't hold a curl to save its life 🙃
@@melissav8459 I think so too! The costumes are always such a HUGE point of contention, both within and outside the dance community, but I think knowing the history is half the battle in these conversations.

I'm not trying to be a jerk but I've noticed the music that typically accompanies these dancers is very bland and uninteresting. I have noticed that when I watch Appalachian cloggers or flat footers the music is sprightly, fast and fun. What gives?
Isn’t there rules about the length of the skirts? No more than FOUR inches ABOVE THE KNEE? Looks more like TEN INCHES. When the girls bend to bow to the judges and the musicians, they are showing their kick-pants to everyone.
Wonderful dancers, no doubt. However, I detest Michael Flatley's obsession with [hideous wigs] and the Las Vegas stye of wardrobe. Put boys in kilts and girls in the Irish traditional embroidered dresses please!
I'm sorry that you feel that way. Maybe it was the way that they are performing? I find it to be quite enjoyable when I do it and it is quite artistic.

UNBELIEVABLE? THEY ARE SO GOOD! IT LOOKS SO HARD TO DO! LOVE WATCHING THEM,!
All such talented dancers! Just brilliant, lovely to see :)
Круто ребята танцуют одними ногами!) зажигательно)
Wow. All absolutely amazing.
And here I thought only women did this dance but I guess there's some fabulous fellas in there too!
Just wonderfull,what more can i say😛🐺😄

I try to share these with Swedish friends. Jag gillar Sverige väldigt mycket.
Well that’s Irish dance for ya
That’s amazing and beautiful they make it look so easy and natural and keep up the good work👏👏👏👍👍👍👍
Trust me, it's not as easy as it looks, so exhausting, but I love it.
Brilliant! I’m in awe!

Прекрасно!!!
Very good
I liked them all.

Marie O’Connell but that’s the point

Great steps with good actions and timings
The third dancer is my nephew…just won the World Championship this year 🏆💕
Awesome! What did he place this year?

OH MY GOSH. ONE OF THE GUYS GOES TO MY STUDIO. WHAT AN AWAKENING AT 8 AM TO ME.
Love the girl at 4:30
Beautiful dancing. Why the weird hair styles??
Sorry I spent 14 mins. watching this and it never says WHICH dancer is "John Jennings, Jr."
Bellissimo 🙂
Put that in your pipe and smoke it!! Glorious....! Bravo!!!!!

Can someone explain why all the ladies have big hair Interesting to watch

They are not tap dancers they are Irish dancers
Amazing! But what’s with the huge curly wigs?
It is just a part of Irish dancing 🙂

It was because of the historical way they taught dance class - they don't do it at dance but more so competition. Otherwise Idk
What's with the odd hair on their heads?
I love tap dancers I want some tap shoes so bad I’ve been good all year for Christmas
But it’s not tap dance
This isn’t the same as tap this is Irish dance we don’t tap we wow

while Irish dance inspired tap dancing, this is nothing like the tap dancing many people do. This is IRISH dancing.

Ok, I'm sure its a lot of work and talent..not so sure I'm fond of how stiff they have to be..it looks really odd.

Modern Irish dance has become so obnoxiously robotic and devoid of artistic expression .

It’s a competition. If you don’t like it, why did you watch it long enough to know?
If you watch each one closely, you can see every now and then a special step that the others don't do .
