Gibson has been collectively deemed a genius for inventing the idea of corporate extractions by means of employing mercenaries that go by names like "Fox" or "Turner".
Never Let Me Go is the book that got me back into reading as an adult. I could not put it down. I became obsessed with the world and its characters. Currently reading Ubik on your recommendation and it is amazing.
This was such a great intro! I thought you were talking about Shades of Grey by Jasper Fforde though! Never Let Me Go is so sad and beautiful, great to have on the list. Well done for describing with no spoilers! Subbed!
I love William Gibson. At least the first two sprawl trilogy books that I've read. I've struggled to get into Pattern Recognition, though I know a lot of people love it!
Thanks man! Yeah those two are high on my list! I get a lot of flak when I tell people I haven't read The Road lolol. Just so you know, in the year since making this video, I've written my own dystopia/post-apocalyptic book myself! It's kind of a cross genre that combines dystopia, post-apoc, sword and sorcery fantasy, and anime tropes into a fast-paced adventure! @@jakobtanner2523 The Road is actually post-apocalyptic, not dystopian. But a good read. One classical dystopian book that is almost always overlooked is We by Yevgeny Zamyatin, and I don't know if Ayn Rand read it but her book Anthem is very similar (but not as good). Since you're promoting your dystopian book, I'll mention (and I swear it wasn't why I clicked on or watched your video) my own dystopian novel I just published, The Followee, though the dystopian aspect is very muted, but clearly evident by the end. I described it on the back as The Followee presents a dystopia, not of the far future, but of tomorrow. www.amazon.com/Followee-Doug-Hatley/dp/1713155362/ref=sr_1_3?qid=1583411148&refinements=p_27%3ADoug+Hatley&s=books&sr=1-3&text=Doug+Hatley
Hi Jakob! I posted my video on dystopian novels and this popped up in my recommendations! I'm so glad I found this, this video is funny! You might get a few ideas from the books that I talk about :)
I read 1984 and Brave New World around the time I went to college and I want to reread them, especially Brave New World. I read Point Counterpoint by Huxley a couple of years ago and loved it.
I recently got Random Acts of Senseless Violence and am VERY excited about reading it... so much so that I keep putting it off so that I can properly enjoy it. XD I love 1984. Have you read "We"? It started off very similar but then went in weird weird ways. Never Let Me Go is one of my most favorite movies and one of the few cases in which I prefer the movie over the book, but only because of atmosphere. They're both fantastic. I thought Brave New World was interesting as a thought experiment but I really didn't like it. Neuromancer is in my all-time top 3 and I love it. :D Nice list.
I agree with pretty much everything you've said here. Especially about Brave New World. On further reflection I may have swapped it for Man In the High Castle or even Battle Royale!! And no I haven't read We but it's been recommended to me loads. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on Womack!
I'm such a sucker for a good dystopian novel. I saw the film of Never Let Me Go a few years back, before I knew it was a book. I thought it was really good.

Stand on Zanzibar by John Brunner; Madlands by KW Jeter; Missing Man by Katherine Maclean; Last Call by Tim Powers; and any PKD story.

I agree with you about Never Let Me Go, it's a really amazing and thought-provoking novel.
Goddamnnit man I love your Booktubin' - Love Neuromancer - and Random Acts of Senseless Violence is definitely the next book I'm going to read.
Please check out Random Acts! Definitely my favourite book of 2017 so far!

ah... again a good one... you really do spur me to pickup one of those books... really like your reviews... thanks
William Gibson is my favorite author. Glad to see him on the list.

You should check The Road by Cormac McCarthy and The Giver by Lois Lowry.

What about the novel ‘Sex in the Time of Segregation?’
Great list, definitely made a mental note to read the ones I hadn't already, but before I do anything else I have got to find that edition of 1984...
It's pretty rare, there's an ebay auction that's gone over 1,000 pounds for it :P

Thanks! That's four new books I need to read now! ^_^ Read 'Neuromancer' so many times, I can speak the dialogue! ^_~
I've read nearly all of these. Need to give random acts of senseless violence a go. Especially as it's part of the SF masterworks set!
Please do! It's hands down the best book I've read this year so far!

Ooh I'll have to check out Point Counterpoint! I've only ever read BNW :)

I know I ought to have done, but I haven't read Battle Royale yet... Probably should do that sometime. XD
