I'm watching this video from Sydney Australia where we *DON'T* have thanksgiving. But wish we had {here in Australia} an event that was a combination of Halloween and Christmas {of unique Australian Culture}. 😕 🐣🔛🍽 🇺🇸
That was kind of weird. Turkeys are everywhere right now. They probably didn't want to go to the trouble of cooking a whole turkey to disect it, so they bought a preroasted chicken.
Thank you so much IOTBS! This is the first "birds are dinosaurs" video that actually laid down the specifics of where birds are in the tree of life relative to the rest of dinosauria, and in a really down-to-earth way! They literally got their hands all greasy digging into a chicken with their bare hands to teach us about science haha
When I was younger I told my dad that the chickens are actually dinosaurs and and that we eat dinosaurs for dinner. I didn't know that as a fact lol. It was just me guessing that based on the chickens appearance. Are you telling me that I was right all along?
A fun game you can play at the table? Ripping apart the dinner to explain to granny why she could be eating a dinosaur if you weren't busy tearing apart her once a year chance to share some food with the whole family in defiance of her ultimately futile battle against time itself with nothing but your bare hands. Must be embarrassing that once their kind were roaming the Earth and eating everything that they found in sight but now their descendents are the ones being hunted down eaten ... Hahaha Lol, sorry that joke was a bit dark
Reminds me of that one video...it was a cute simple animation about evolution. When it got to the early reptile days, it split into following two paths, and the top creature eventually became a mammal and the bottom one became a bird. At the end it was a human and a chicken, then the human KICKED the chicken and it came back as a bucket of KFC. XD Found it if anyone's interested: ua-cam.com/video/jxT6EtuMwDA/v-deo.html
Years ago I worked in an American themed restaurant in Glasgow (Scotland) as a chef, and one day a waitress (a University graduate) asked me, "What are chicken wings?" I said, "Chicken wings? What do you mean?" Waitress "I know that they're called chicken wings, but what are they?" Me "They're the....chicken's.... wings" Waitress "Hahaha Don't be stupid..... chickens don't have wings" Me (By this point I'm wondering if I'm being punk'd) "Errr....yes.... they do.... They're birds. How do you think they fly?" Waitresses "Now I know that you're joking, because I know that chickens don't fly😂" Me "Well....they certainly aren't good at flying - their body shape won't allow them to fly well, but they can fly maybe 2 or 3 feet off the ground, and for maybe 8 to 10 feet in distance, so I suppose it's barely flying.... but it is flying..... of sorts. Anyway, that's hardly the point - there are a few birds that can't fly, but they are still birds" (I've now realised that I've allowed myself to be dragged down to her level 🙄) "Penguins - they don't fly, they have wings.... and they're birds." Waitress "Hahahahaha Now I KNOW that you're joking - penguins aren't birds......" By this point I really didn't know if I was being set up or was she simply an idiot? Me "Look... Penguins are birds..... and chickens have wings...... Not very good wings.... well not good for flying..... in fact I shouldn't have even mentioned flying, but trust me.... Chicken wings are chicken's wings." I died a little that day - she was gorgeous, and funny, and really likeable, (and had a boyfriend anyway) but as dim as a 10 watt bulb. What are chicken wings?
So you're telling me that backwards facing pelvises evolved twice? Once In ornithischion dinosaurs, and then again in the line of theropods that lead to birds? Isn't that something most people who study this kind of thing prefer not to conclude? I'm genuinely confused by this.
That’s the current (likely correct) theory! It’s actually not too uncommon to see distant species independently evolve similar features. Convergent evolution happens!
Exactly. It is possible to happen as much as some lineages can develop some structures and then lose them again at one point. But the reversion is not exactly the same. Maniraptoran backward pubis and ornithischian backward pubis are not exactly the same as you can see. Compared to ornithischians, Velociraptor and birds have anatomically more similar backward pubises. Scientists were still yet to discover more about saurischians that time when these groups were named.
they sure are scary. but they can't really hurt you much. i learnt that about both turkeys and geese between the ages of 7-9, before i even knew so many people are afraid of them. yeah i just randomly attacked large birds lol. Funny enough, I always wondered this as a kid. Whenever I looked at the feet of birds, I always thought dinosaur. It's a funny thought to realize we technically eat dinosaurs in our every day lives 😁 🦃🐓🦆
Surprisingly, Bird-hipped (ornithischian) dinosaurs split from the lizard hipped dinosaurs way before before birds ever appeared. Despite what the name suggests, Ornithischians didn’t look like birds and were not directly related to them at all... bird-hipped dinosaurs include animals like Triceratops, Stegosaurus and Iguanodon, animals that looked nothing like birds, despite sharing a couple of features with them. The fact that they are bird-hipped is purely co-incidental. Other than that they barely share anything with birds, other than they both descend from archosaurs.
