    "I wish Apple would buy it" is possibly the WORST take i've heard all year.

      As I’ve replied in a few other comments, it’s my super dry humor at work. Apple has def killed a few companies I’m still holding grudges about. Camel audio. Redmatica. So painful.

      Read my other responses… certainly not exactly to be taken at face value. I really love logic but Apple has blitzed a number of audio companies. I’m sure more are on the horizon.

    You can bypass all of the EQ's in a group inside the group. So you don't need to select all channels and turn off all EQ's in the group, you can also turn off the "group" so that all EQ's become individual without "destroying" the group, so to speak.
    In the preferences (an almost invisible button in the upper right corner) you can set how long you want smart:EQ to listen for before it makes its calculation. Between 6 and 60 seconds. You could, for example, start listening at beat 41 and listen to beat 57 and get all the channels.
    There you can also make some other settings. For example, you can set it to start listening as soon as you start a new EQ. You also don't need to set what kind of instrument or voice it is before you start "listening" to the music.Smart:EQ listens and then the program "knows" what needs to be done when you then select an instrument or voice.
    You can also use smart:EQ 4 as a final EQ before mastering. Then you can also use some music that you think is well mixed as a reference. You can therefore use other music as a reference. After that, you can use Logic's Mastering and try dragging Apple's EQ up and down to compare. Apple's EQ is not a reference EQ, but more generally to control the worst frequencies.

    I also kept thinking that these features should have been built into the DAW.

    Just bought it, and even just my first try on an old demo song I had lying around .. it just smoothed it all out, made the guitar parts sound great .. clarity unreal and that's without actually going in and tweaking anything..it just seemed to know how the song should sound in a subtle kinnda way .. very very happy with it so far ...

    Nice video. I actually deleted all FabFilter and Ozone stuff now. I totally switched to Sonible for mixing. I kept some EQ's like UAD Native for character and Sonnox Oxford EQ for precision clean sound. Scary stuff is all their plugins sounds great. Feels like cheating to use them but you can concentrate on making music instead of getting stuck on eq and compression. Great song but I think that auto tuned backing vocal is to loud. Have you try Waves Silk on Vocals?

    « I have to sort it out » many times! What is the deal for making videos, editing them, publishing them… before fully understanding the tool you are presenting! What if you learn first, then you make a video to teach? You didn’t think about that?

    How do ypu think would it work in live performance? Does it introduce a lot of latency? I've got Pure EQ but it's unusable in a live setting. Tdr Nova works great thou.

      The latency with my SSL interface wasn’t bad at all. I was recording into instrument tracks via MIDI with no noticeable/additional delay.

    Will this EQ also work with orchestral templates? Also as an aside, whatever auto-tune/harmonizer you are using sounds really artificial and fake. It ruins the mix in my opinion.

    • @logicprolife
      @logicprolife  5 місяців тому +1

      It’s limited to 10 instances in a group which makes it problematic for orchestral. There are also other issues which mean it isn’t yet ideal for that workflow.
      As far as the vocal processing, this song is part of a concept style album which is focused on a robot becoming human… hence the over-processing. By the end of the album, the last song doesn’t use any tuning tech.

    • @BrentLeVasseur
      @BrentLeVasseur 5 місяців тому

      @@logicprolife Thanks! On the autotune/harmonizer thing. The problem is with your mix even with a concept album about robots or whatever is that it’s not distinct enough to be recognized as intentionally artificial. In animation and visual effects they call this the ‘uncanny valley’ which means its not quite real and not quite stylized enough to be cool. My suggestion is if you are going to go robot theme then go robot all the way. Think Cylon voice from the 80s Battlestar Galactica or Mr. Roboto by Styx. Don’t sit in the uncanny valley or people hearing your music will just think it’s an amateur sounding mix. My 2 cents.

    • @logicprolife
      @logicprolife  5 місяців тому +1

      @BrentLeVasseur I totally understand what you’re saying. This is a track from the middle, which means it has started to sound in-between. The first several tracks are extremely vocoded and synthesized. It’s really interesting to work with the UA-cam algorithm because I can’t use any of the professionally released projects I’ve worked on without dealing with copyright and so when I put up a video with whatever of my own I’m working on, then half of the time it’s out of context. Honestly, when I do this type of software reaction video I usually get a couple hundred views and this video is on its way to 10,000. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Had I known I probably would’ve done a few things differently in it. 🤣 And when I do a fully polished video next week, it’ll probably get 35 views.

    Good video, very informative... just one thing:
    Going "wow this is soo good I wish apple bought this company" or in other words "wow this is good, I wish it was a lot less accessible for most people and locked to proprietary hardware" is straight up sinister. This kind of monopolizing is making everything worse for consumers.

      That comment was more for long time viewers who know how I feel about it deep down inside. They’ve ruined more than one of my favorite companies. Camel audio. Redmatica. The list goes on.

    • @logicprolife
      @logicprolife  5 місяців тому +1

      I’m not a singer… although the Flex Time can be used in much smaller amounts and less obvious. In this case the project is a concept album where a robot becomes alive and so it fits in the theme. The last song of the set doesn’t have any Flex Pitch at all.

      if you wanna use autotune to various degrees in a concept album theme like this, I would spring for at least an Antares subscription. You can get one for a couple months and get access to everything they make, including the harmonizer plugin which will blow your mind. It will make the same amount of sonic difference as this Sonible EQ is making for your mix.
      I used to use logic's built in pitch correction but compared to Antares, Apple sounds sloppy, almost like an mp3 file that didn't get encoded properly. The music on this song is really good, the way the vocals are being autotuned are absolutely distracting and taking away from the sentiment of an otherwise cool track. I almost wish it were instrumental given the choice. Its always the artists choice, but if you care this much about making a better mix where things fit, I would also consider the timber and tone of how these choppy/sloppy autotuned vocals distract in comparison to a true vocoder like sound (for your robot theme) and morph them in to beautifully autotuned natural sounding vocals. And of course opinions are like holes, we've all got em. @@logicprolife
