Man when Joe and Punk call it quits from wrestling they need to have a podcast or radio show or something because I can listen to these two talk and tell stories for days lmao
It feels somewhat poetic that Punk got to have his last match in AEW with Joe in front of such a huge audience, when their original legendary matches happened in front of hundreds of people. I wish things didn't have to go the way they did, but in retrospect that final match at Wembly felt like those two just having some fun, because Punk knew he was done. Also cool that Joe has since gone on to be a world champion again, even if his run feels like a bit of an afterthought.
@@BR78973I hope so, he's still one of my favorite wrestlers ever. I just want AEW to succeed because competition is important. WWE is better than it was 5 years ago because AEW forced them to step up their game. Cody would have never finished the story without it. And Punk would have probably stayed retired. I just think if things had been different, Punk (and Cody as well for that matter) could have elevated AEW way way more than they already had, and continued to force WWE to be competitive and up their game even more. In an ideal world for me, WWE and AEW would both be really good, and I'd be excited for and watch both all the time.

Ricky Steamboat was around 50 years old at this time when they’re thinking of him as an “old man”. Punk and Joe are both 45 now. Joe is AEW champ and Punk was about to main event mania.
To be fair, that goes for these two generations in general. In Steamboat's time, you counted as old and past your prime when you reached 35. These days most guys don't even reach their prime or make it to a big company before that age. But also while most of the 80s stars looked like their in their 40s when they were in their mid-20s, today's 40 year olds are really well preserved it seems, despite arguably wrestling a more dangerous style. Shows what roids, booze and cocaine does to the body.
Something about two dudes talking 100% casually without any filter while also not trying hard to be offensive/edgy despite saying "offensive" things is really fun to watch. This oddly reminds me of hangouts and VHS camcorder recordings I had with friends this same year.
and thanks for this upload, man! I watched it earlier in the week and didn’t know Joe before NXT. Watching this interview is all I’ve seen so I’m very excited for his AEW run!
yeah i just had to pause after all that cuz i was dying of laughter for like 10 mins straight lol Punk being the sober one and able to remember all the crazy shit in detail makes it such an entertaining story lol
id really love to go back to these early ROH years where it felt like the entire roster had endless potential and were gonna have these enduring careers and it'd set the world on fire and would usher in a new "Golden Era" for wrestling and these were gonna be the new 'Titans' and 'Giants' and 'Legends' ...and then i snap back to reality and the day dream is just that... a dream
Well your past feeling isn't entirely true, but definitely not false either. Joe, Punk, Danielson, AJ all have had (and still continuing strong) what could be called legendary careers
Watching this makes me wonder how 20 deaths didn't happen during this period. RoH was as indie as indie could get. Yet 15-20 years later so many of those performers are top notch. You don't full mature as a wrestler until you're like 35. The sad part is most can't MAKE IT to 35.
There's a lot of stuff in this interview that still holds up today. Especially around the 1:20:00 mark, just after they talk about Mick Foley pitching the both of their debuts in WWE to Vince. That talk of how stale WWE was even back then hit home for me. As a fan watching all those years ago and discovering ROH, I thought, not only was WWE the drizzling shits in terms of in-ring storytelling but how their superstars looked so plastic in front of ROH roster.
