Great video. Nice camera work, The Castle looks like it was built in the late Norman period. When was this one built. Being Colchester There were probably a number of earlier buildings under this one.
Amazing castle, but it's odd that it's exterior is so poor, considering its contemporary, The Tower of London. Sir Charles Lucus broke his parole twice, and l think that's why he was shot. Lucus had been a real thorn in the side of Parliament.
Correct. Lucas did break his parole which he last gave to Fairfax after the siege of Boarstall in 1645. The condition of Colchester Castle fell into disrepair circa 1640 and was sold for building materials circa 1790. What we see is what remains.

Magnificent castle, and a most interesting and informative video.
Great video . .lived in Colchester for 30 years and never knew all of this, can see where a lot of road names came from . .lisle, fair fax etc.
