I didn't know you were a Marine! Two of my grandsons are Marines and one is serving now at Camp LeJuene in North Carolina right now. God Bless America! You are showing the way. Thank you so much and God Bless you and your family! We are so blessed to live in this country. Drives me crazy when people complain about our country so much. Don't they know how very blessed they are?
Hugs to both for the ending. A long time ago when television ended at midnight they would play that. I have seen others plant gardens that way but never knew what it was called. Great idea to save money on dirt. Thank you!
I just don't see a down side to filling a raised bed like that . Clearing up your place and using it to help fill your beds. We all can save a little money and it really helps out right now.Thank's guy's and God Bless America!
Greetings from Montana! I dug out a flower bed last year that faced the South and was against the house making it too hot of an environment for plants. I made it into a hugelkulture bed. Now it is very productive. Enjoyed your video. God Bless America!
Hi, great video! I wrote three Lasagna Gardening books and when I was writing the first one I decided to place all my garden waste, including branches and twigs, in one place. In the fall I covered it with black plastic. I opened it in the spring and, with the exception of a few big pieces of wood, fount it decomposed enough to plant. Didn't know there was a name. At 85 I am still making new gardens so will do this with my newly downed tree. Thanks! '
Patricia Lanza, it was so wonderful to scroll down and see your comments! I found your book at the library and went to work (perhaps it was the first). As soon as I read a few pages, my world - and gardens - changed forever. It made so much sense. I began to realize that no one was tilling or double digging the forest floor. I could simulate that and plant into while the decomposition was happening. I was able to have lush amazing gardens in red clay in Virginia - outside of Wash, DC - the first year. Our home was at the mouth of the neighborhood and on a big corner lot. I grew EVERYTHING that first year, and for months people stopped to ask me how I could get that red clay that fertile so instantly, almost overnight. Most everyone grew impatiens and begonias, all in a row, with sprinklers popping up like a soldier formation. Many did not like my garden's wild cottage style, but they thought I was waved a magic wand over the earth to grow so much so fast. Thank you!
@snowrideruk Don’t use fresh logs in the garden as you wouldn’t use them fresh to start a fire. Carbon isn’t available yet, but eventually it could be. Would be fine to use in place of a cinder block to hold the bed on grade.
@@SawyerRidgeFarm I would wait to plant until you've had a good soaking rain - or water the bed real well. That's when you'll see how the dirt will settle. Happy planting.
I used to do this with my large planters, I'd walk around the yard and collect twigs, grass that clumped from mowing, leaves etc and fill the planters 1/2 way up then put in soil, who knew I was hugelkulturing…..lol, I just thought it was silly to put that much dirt in a planter. Great idea guys, totally makes sense, I always learn so much from you. God Bless
I am trying to get a palce and move to make raised beds. I do not want to start here and then move before food is ready. I like the way you did this bed so I will try that once I am able to make mine. You touched my heart with the ending as I am a daughter and sister of veterans. Thank you.
Thank you for posting this video. I am planning on making some raised beds this fall and have watched many video about making a raised bed. Your video is the only one I have seen that has no wood at the bottom. That was so smart. There is no need to put wood at the bottom. It will just rot out. It also cuts down on the expense. I will be making several of these.
Loved your video. I am living in Fiji and that's exactly I am doing with my family just planting vegetables. We've laid off from work because I work in tourism industry. But that's not of a problem because we rich soil and lots of place to farm. Thanks again for your a wonderful video about raised bed. God bless you both.
My daughter and I just set up 2 raised beds today. They are 4'x8' and 18" deep. We used small oak logs, pine needles and oak leaves. Then we topped it off with my rabbit poo/wood ash soil i've been working on all winter. We are super excited to garden this year, last year we just used pots and buckets but still had great success. With our rabbits, chickens, and new garden area this is the year for us to finally get where we have been wanting to be with our homestead.
I have been gardening for 40 years and do this, even in "normal" beds. I found it very effective for perennial herbs which I usually divide and clean out every 4 to 6 years at which time I bury a few more branches.
Great job ,I did the same ,I also talked to a big grocery store ,I got 20 big garbage bags a week and tons of coffee grounds as bass fill ,good job folks
I‘m just starting out on raised bed gardening. We were blessed in that our local Feed and Seed has been able to supply our needs but, things are starting to get tight. We put hay sandwiched in between landscaping cloth in our one bed but this method will be a gamechanger! What a great idea! Thanx for sharing. Passing along the message, please pray for Brandon and his entire family over at Rustic Woods. He is waiting on test results now because he has a fever, is feeling lousy and scared for his family.
I like that your wife works along side of you. My property was so overgrown. Recently I started pruning back everything. Then shredding everything. I have several different piles of this stuff spread all over my property. We've been thinking of doing raised beds. I was thinking of going to home depot to get some concrete corners and 2x sixes. Meanwhile my wife has been telling me to get rid of the old corrugated roofing we have. Ah now it all comes together! Thank you for your encouragement.
Excellent system. My old back won't take prolonged bending so I build mine counter height. I use any old masonry, rocks, or concrete for the bottom 1/3'd and a 50/50 mix of compost/soil for the top 12-16" depending on the crops. WELL done on the 'outro' Marine. God Bless...~Eli.
The cardboard will attract earth worms and worm casting which will aerate the soil and enrich the soil. It seems like it would be beneficial to break the wood into smaller pieces to aid in decomposition. Interesting to watch. I plan to try it next year. Thank for sharing about this method.

Wonderful video, best ending ever. I leave my raised beds and large containers 6"-8" from top first year. It allows room for me to put 2" of compost, or other organic matter it in the fall. In 3-4 years they are overflowing and I am digging them out to make room.
That’s cool, I’ve seen a lot of people put logs in the bottom as a filler and never understood why. I always just figured it was cheaper than buying soil. It kind of makes perfect sense, every year that was gonna right and the top of the dirt will sink down a little so every year you can add a little nutrient rich topsoil to get everything started and it will just keep flowing down for a few years.
I’ve done 2 Hugelkulture beds, it helped me get rid of all those tree limbs, branches leaves and whatever else was laying around. I started with the larger logs, then limbs, branches, twigs getting smaller as you get to the top then my compost. It does kill a couple of jobs at the same time. Love your channel.
Have done my beds like this for years. They work great. Part huglecultur, part lazagna bed, part back to eden. I also use mushroom compose as the top layer. Grows lots of veggies with little watering. 6 months to sell old homestead so was not able to go over to water but once a week when we cut the grass. Everything grow all by itself with no extra water except rain. Love them!

A hugelkulture garden makes a lot of sense. It is my understanding that you will need to water it the 1st year, but starting the spring 2021, those logs will be decomposing and providing a lot of moisture to your garden. Don’t be disappointed if your results aren’t what you expect this year, wait until spring 2021 to really judge the garden. Thanks for posting.
I just watched your first video and I really got a lot of good info from it. It has given me some great ideas. It will be great when I have my grandchildren over and the can help Mi Mi with the garden. Can't wait to get started. Thank you for sharing and God Bless you both.
I am new to your channel. Ty for sharing. You have a really nice place. I wish I could make a couple of raised beds. I am 67 a diabetic with neuropathy. My mind is still good. My will to do is great. Just my body won't allow me. I have the room to do it. No one to help. Thank y'all for helping Jason. He's so proud. But sometimes people need help. I think once he gets that house done gets his animals he will be so much better. Oh I know he's a grown man. He's still human. I just worry about him. He will be ok. He has good friends like you. So thank you. I will be watching more of your videos
So glad you did this video. I have this fallen tree in the back of my property that has been rooting out for awhile. I’ve used some of it in big pots with added soil, but I am going to try this in a large horse trough, it has a drain hole so water can escape . This is going to be a trial run and I’m really hoping it works. I didn’t know that I could put sticks in it, but I always have them laying around so in the trough they go. You two work so well together and I always look forward to watching you because your content is so darn good. Thank you for just being good people and thank you for that amazing ending that had me in tears and goose bumps.Thank you Jacob for your service both in the marines and law enforcement and God Bless America and God Bless You both. ❤️🤍💙🇺🇸👍🙏
'Back in the day' l was terrace gardening on a city lot ... finding soil to fill the terraces was a problem ... l did just as you show ... also filled my pathways with twigs,... anyway, in a few years, my soil was super. Stay safe ... love from the Ozarks.
Will be trying the corrugated raised beds next season along with the Hugelkultur method. In our garden, we use raised beds from the pine/ash trees that are cut down in the area and fill the walking areas with wood chips (free from the tree services). The wood chips keep the area clean and the mechanical (walking on them) breaking down hastens the process somewhat and the paths are cleared out every spring, added to the raised beds as mulch and new chips put down. Great video
Hi Guys! I really think your design is the best metal raised bed I have seen. Digging it into the ground is the best way to keep it from bowing. Thank you for taking the time share. Love the ending!

God's Blessing to you and your family. Thank you for this additional information.

Thank you for the video, great information! Love you guys.
Thank you for your support! 😀👍

Great video, you sure do know how to make an old man cry .
Thank you! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video! 😊
Pretty neat!
Thank you, Linda! We’re glad this video could help you out! 😊

Good morning.i just found your Chanel. I really like your interaction with each other. This is my 1st year gardening... loved the flag
You guys are amazing , salts of the earth. GOD love you always
Happy Easter form Vernon British Columbia Canada.... love the video
Love your raised bed i built one just like you said going to fill it tomorrow lol got a bit tired.
For years trees are pull nutrients from the ground. Now you have it all in your garden. Good work!!
Thanks! I never really thought of it that way, but very true! 👍
Looking good. Kansas
