TC2 was amazing. I got to the point where I could beat the arcade cabinet on one continue max. A little rusty now but even when I run it I can get to about the 2nd world and 3 acts deep before falling. Miss this
Gman out of nowhere 4 years later. To actually address your comment, yeah there's exceedingly little good arcade capture footage: this video, Fighters' Choice Arcade and Smraedis' 1CC Marathon video. The only thing I could criticise is that it's excessively bright and that really detracts from the lighting. Not sure if that's due to the capture software or Smraedis turned it up on the machine or during editing or what. Funnily enough, Fighters' Choice Arcade's TC2 video is really dark. Nevertheless, I love this video and the skill on display is out of this world. This inspired me to try and really git gud at the game.
The machine gunner at 5:09 never cease to amaze me. He is firing an assault rifle on full auto at what is typically close range, failing to score any hits on the VSSE agents yet the VSSE agents needed six seconds (you can see the hit at 5:15) to kill him. A master player will kill the same machine gunner in less than a second.
this games art style is so on point it's got so much character, so much pizazz crushed into less than 20 minutes of gameplay that most modern games don't have.

Anyway, once I was playing the last level, very accurate and shooting fast AF, I lost my last life in the satellite stage and I run out of money.... damn!! When I turned back, a lot of people was watching me playing. Man, those were times!
Smraedis, thank you so much for giving me a childhood via your playthroughs of Time Crisis, which I would watch since I was 10 years old. As a child, I loved Time Crisis, and whenever I wasn't at the arcade to play, I'd watch your playthroughs of Time Crisis all the time! You defined my childhood, Mate! For fellow high-scorers, here's things he missed: In case you don't know; bonus areas in stage 1 and 3 unlocks by shooting the first boss' hat off at each encounter during the second area, against Wild Dog, you have to shoot him 45(?) times before he transitions to the last area. Stage 1 is pretty clean, only that all boats can be triple-shot, but hard to do. Stage 2 - When you get the machine gun and face the tank-like enemy. It's possible to dodge the tree and keep your combo going. - Missed second stage secret area. After getting on the train and clearing the hall, when you turn to face the train beside you - 3 yellow guys appear. Shooting all 3 takes you to a bonus area similar to the first stage. You get ~2000 more than the regular route with a combo, but is a bit harder so much just be player choice. He doesn't even go for the first guy. - Missed the orange bonus guy in the boss fight; he's in the helicopter as the boss turns toward you to shoot. Stage 3 - The helicopter falling the background of the very first area can be shot for bonus points - All the stage 1 regular enemy areas can be combo'ed, delay the killing blow on 'transition' enemies to keep it going. - Wild Dog can be shot while winding up for the punch in the duo fight (after the kick) - Very last part of last fight - you can duck between rockets, take a single shot, and duck again between rockets to keep combo going. - Not shooting Diaz at all during the last fight gives more shots, player shoots a killing blow on Diaz when he had ~5 more shots at the solar panels which were turning around for him to shoot. Generally it's interesting to see another player shoot, he plays slow and methodical - prioritizes combo over time bonus. Generally quicker 3 shots on enemies that isn't to keep the combo going would reward a lot of time bonus points. 'Max' score is ~2'350'000 imo. Even with perfect combos, its plateaued around 2'200'000; only speed gives more points. Aggressive shooting is best for learning imo: Getting the feel for very fast areas helps a lot when you then learn to combo. -MHL

Watching this video on my phone while watching the PS2 version on the iPad so I can compare side by side and the PS2 version is so much nicer looking. Arcade release was 1997 but PS2 was 2001 and so they enhanced the graphics and did a great job with it.
My brother and I used to play this game when we went to Fudruckers (back when it was still in business). We were never able to beat it, but it was still fun to play.

Yes, Time Crisis 2 and especially Crisis Zone look brighter and more colorful in the arcade version, the classic Namco 90’s look. PS2 version textures and lighting look dark and dirty :(
It's just a shame this game has seen no progress in terms of emulation. As of now, it only gets to Stage 1-2 and then freezes with a black screen. I've heard the System 23's a really complicated piece of hardware, so I wouldn't expect playable emulation anytime soon. Nonetheless, the arcade version is far more colourful than the PS2 remake and the machine is a blast to play. Last time was when I was on holiday in Mallorca and I came across a Japanese cabinet. I beat it so many times.
XenonHatcher YES, the same with Crisis Zone. They are being lost to history because they can’t be emulated, and the home PS2 versions look totally different with the dark colors and dirty textures. The arcade versions are so bright and crisp! Let’s get an arcade compilation re-release on PS4 and Xbox One.
This is one of my favorite first person shooter games and my favorite of the Time Crisis games. I put a lot of tokens in this game at the arcade and I beat it a few times! Great post! I notice you've been playing this at a certain arcade in England recently (I won't name it so I don't dox us both). I'm the TOM that's with you near the top of the leaderboard, in fact I knocked you off the top last Saturday (although I've never come close to your true high score). I usually go every Saturday afternoon/evening if you're ever there again. I think I even saw you there a few weeks ago one Saturday evening, but I wasn't particularly sure if it was you.
last oct. 27 as I played this on the arcade, this is my first time I successfully hit the first boss in his head 4 times, then I got a lot of bonus guys at the end of S1A2.
i remember down in florida at a place called pete roses i played through this whole game by myself and it was well into the morning so all i can say is i love this game and i wish the arcade could make some sort of comeback
This video gives me life. I play this at a nearby arcade and my current high score is about 1.14 million. There are a lot of things in this game which I don't know if they're random or player-initiated, for example whether you go right or left at 2:08 or 8:36. How do you get those bonus guys at the Wild Dog part of 3-1?
I've just discovered that it's the pairs of dark orange/brown soldiers who determine which route you take; if you shoot the left one first, you go left and vice versa. At 2:02 he shoots the right brown soldier for example. As for the bonus soldiers at Wild Dog, I'm still not entirely sure. I looked it up on GameFAQ's and got different answers, some of which are disproved by this video (e.g. you have to kill the rocket launcher guys before shooting Wild Dog). The most likely seems to be that you have to shoot Wild Dog a certain number of times.
16:36 Yesterday, I learnt the hard way that these guys can hit you if they get a red shot on you as the camera is turning away. It felt really bullshit to get shot in the back of the head.
Trynna figure out how to get a full arcade machine. Getting the home console version is great, but the actual gun slide nosies and pedals help make this game even better. One good memory was I was solo, and some random kid came and got player 2. Didn't need quarters after that, finished the game and both nodded and headed out. Good camaraderie moment that I'll remember forever, only because of this game!

Looking back, the graphics DID get an upgrade on PS2 massively but I do like the colors in the arcade version.
I used to play this game whenever I went to tilt studio's at Webster town mall and this give me nostalgia of the old days of arcade games, ah memories.
Why are my eyes watery?I just came to watch some nostalgia
Has anyone noticed that the background music for some (if not all) levels on this game was lifted wholesale from the 1996 action film The Rock?
Lmao yeah I noticed it at the 21:00 mark during the credits haha great game great movie!
@@dreeb2004 and the board in time crisis 4 with the trolley blowing up and sliding down the hill was lifted from the rock too
Look at that heads-up display! It's probably one of the best I've ever seen, and is so self-explanatory.
I beat Time Crisis 2 with only one credit and with 1st place! Even if I could beat Time Crisis 2 just like that, you're still the King of Time Crisis, Smraedis!
I played this in an arcade years ago. Still my favourite arcade game with guns.
Brang me so much satisfaction, played this game when I was 10 years old and never could get past the train. What an insane ending
13:13😂😂 this run dash style made me laughing when in kid back to the childhoods thank you again well
タムクラ2はAC版が一番好きだったな。
I can't believe we were so close to the ending but can't finish it because we ran out of tokens on the arcade, damn! But seeing the ending now makes a bit satisfied, knowing what the ending looks like.
This is my favorite Arcade Game of all time
Watching this video on my phone while watching the PS2 version on the iPad so I can compare side by side and the PS2 version is so much nicer looking.
Arcade release was 1997 but PS2 was 2001 and so they enhanced the graphics and did a great job with it.
arcade is like ps1 but ps1 1.5 in graphics or ps1.2
My brother and I used to play this game when we went to Fudruckers (back when it was still in business).
We were never able to beat it, but it was still fun to play.
My first Time Crisis game I've ever played at the arcades! I forgot how much I miss this version! Don't get me wrong I love the ps2 version, but I prefer the arcade version alot more. Any way great job with the run Smraedis and welcome back you Time Crisis Legend!
Thanks, I feel the arcade version has more charm than the PS2 version
Yes, Time Crisis 2 and especially Crisis Zone look brighter and more colorful in the arcade version, the classic Namco 90’s look. PS2 version textures and lighting look dark and dirty :(
18:47, “You are like roaches!”
Funniest line in the game
0:57 Silence!
This needs an arcade1up release
I’d love to see the whole Time Crisis Anthology on Arcade1UP.
Great post! I am trying to figure one thing out and if ANYONE knows the answer, please reply and let me know. Does anyone know what kind of car that Keith and Robert are driving in at the start of Stage 2? Any help would be appreciated
Ahh wow, yeah your scores are impressive!
That wouldn't have been me, I've not been there on a Saturday before, though I should be there this Tuesday
@@Smraedis I’ll try and get there after work
@@Smraedis I’m on my way, I’ll have a white shirt and blue jeans if you’re there.
@tom13king Yeah, I'm here!
last oct. 27 as I played this on the arcade, this is my first time I successfully hit the first boss in his head 4 times, then I got a lot of bonus guys at the end of S1A2.
I remember having the tune from the menu selection screen in my head for years not knowing where it was from...today I finally solved the mystery
I remeber playing this game at Family Fun Center (before they closed down) when I was a child and this brings back good memories of my childhood
In 9th grade everybody used to go to the mall and movies on Saturday night and we would play this at kahunavile until our movie started. Good times
special thanks to derrick lynch! i guess the crisis zone villain is named after that guy who worked at namco interesting!
Ah yes, a boss villain that refuses to leave the frontline after acquiring the package. Flawless plan indeed.
i remember down in florida at a place called pete roses i played through this whole game by myself and it was well into the morning so all i can say is i love this game and i wish the arcade could make some sort of comeback
Ahh... the memories. Good times. 😎👍
damn this guys good. found this game hard as hell as a kid at the arcades
Such amazing quality! And a classic game too :)
12:05 you missed the gold guy in the helicopter
Finished the game only once at the local arcade, came back after some years and they got the 4th game now, still this my favourite
I hope this game fully playable on mame
Same dude...
Same
The time crisis arcade games were some of the best of my childhood.
excellent work as ever, SM!
I'M SOOO ADDICTED ON THIS BACK IN COLLEGE. :))
Ah yes these were the workouts back in the day
Trynna figure out how to get a full arcade machine.
My favorite arcade game I grew up with.
Brings back memories and the sudden urge to buy the arcade machine.
I love how cheesy rhis franchise has been since the beginning. It never lost its charm and just got more and more insane as time went on
I remember always going to the arcade to play this time crisis was the the arcade game that i always look for
