Mistakes? Too many to count!! A lesson learned with every last one. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.. Diana is so real and down to earth!! I just love her tutorials and she gives me the confidence to go for it!!! Love those Bishop sleeves!!
Love your tutorials…you help so much.
Diana, I love that you make sewing so fun and so much less stressful. We all make mistakes, and most of us may not handle it as gracefully as you do. You give us permission to laugh at our mistakes and move on. You truly have a gift.
EXACTLY, I HAD CRIED BEFORE AND SAID I CAN'T GET IT I'M MESSING UP FABRIC LEFT AND RIGHT. HUBBY SAID STOP CRYING PRACTICE YOU WILL GET IT. EVER SINCE I'VE BEEN WATCHING DIANA I'M A WHOLE LOT BETTER IN SEWING, I JUST DON'T POST.
The bishop sleeves look really cute. We don't normally see long sleeves on the wrap dress. Nice.
Great presentation of the wrap dress..My mistake of the day was putting a neck band on that was too short ugh So I got creative and made a drape in the front I said what the heck. I will be wearing my green and white classic tee mock
Thank you for building my confidence when mistakes are made. I realize more and more garments don't turn out perfect.#newbie@72 years young
A trick my Mom taught me when I was learning to sew, when clipping, is to put a pin on the seam so that the pin prevents clipping across the seam. My Mom's little sister is 13 years younger, and she made hundreds of Barbie doll outfits for her little sister. I was in awe of the exquisitely tiny seam allowances, the teensy tiny bias bindings, and even the button holes for the quarter inch buttons! My sisters and I played with those same Barbie outfits when we were old enough.
Anyway, the pin, placed directly on the seam to prevent cutting the seam has helped me many times. Also using tiny scissors or snips helps me, for those occasional tiny clips, like in this video.
That hasn't stopped me from using the same technique as Diana used to fix this exact same thing!
Love your tutorials! When I am sewing an E&M pattern I watch them over and over. so helpful!❤😊
HELLO, I LOVE YOUR DRESS AND FABRIC... I WILL BUY THE PATTERN TOMORROW.
I've been sewing for 5+ years and I still make mistakes just recently I was making a skirt and made the waistband to small and cut the fabric on the grain instead of the stretch lol love you tutorials keep'em coming
I love this pattern. I am going right now to the website to buy it
I love that pattern. You made a lovely dress . I’m going to try it
just bought this dress too (and the baby tee)
Thank you for the tutorial! I always enjoy your sews and words of encouragement 😊 off to buy the pattern!
Your videos are the best sew a longs I love your patterns and I’m definitely going to be making this little beauty 😜
I’ve been so excited for this pattern and video! Thanks
Thanks for doing this wrap dress. I was planning on doing it for my Easter dress. I was thinking about putting a gathered trim around the wrap and hem. What do you think and do you have any suggestions?
When attaching the straps, could this be done at the same time you do the "stretch" hem, to avoid bulky top stitching?
Please help! I'm trying to sew the hem on the neckline and it's gone wrong twice. It keeps bunch up stretching and losing its fold. Is there a technique for this? Do I have to donit as a smooth curve or do.i go up to the serger lines fairly straight then do a sharp turn. This video zips through it so I can see the only bit I can't do . Thanks for help sewing friends!
Hi! I haven't made this particular pattern, but on similar patterns, to hem the neckline, you need a regular sewing machine, OR a coverstitch machine -- which is not the same thing as a serger. You'll just fold the hem over, and since knits won't fray like a woven fabric, you just fold it once (instead of twice to encase the raw edge on a woven fabric).
I like to steam the curves, the same way that Diana did for that long hem around the bottom and sides. Then pin or clip, and gently stretch any puckering to be smooth, and steam it again.
Once the hem is nice and smooth, use a stretch stitch on your sewing machine to sew it down securely.
In the video, the serger and the coverstitch machine look very similar, which makes it very confusing! Some sergers can convert to a coverstitch, but they tend to be way too expensive for me, like US$800 and up, and they seem to be fiddly about making the switch.
If you're still working on this dress, 3 months later (I've been there myself! Can't figure out a step, and throw the project into a bin to work on it later!), and the neckline is stretched out from multiple attempts, it may shrink back into shape with steaming. I've also just gotten the stretched out part damp and tossed it into the dryer.
I hope this helps someone!
I melted a curtain I was making and made a hole which I patched the same way as you. It worked and no one has noticed
Sometimes it would be good if ther was a video on cutting the pattern as this is where I can go wrong even if the video
Was separate completely
Great idea!
It kills me watching you not use a pressing cloth
