That's always a big crunch for movies. It's gotta be very important to the larger story but not so important that it merits any protection. This movie did not find that balance

It could have worked if Snyder's ego would let him tell a story with a small scope. Say that the galactic government has already collapsed, famine is everywhere, and it's just this one ship full of soldiers with nothing to eat arriving at the only place they can find that still has some amount of arable land. The soldiers believe that the nation they fought for still exists, the farmers don't, and there truly isn't enough for everyone, so one side or the other is going to starve.

Rebel Moon 1 - Kora beats up 6 heavily armed Military Men but they don't shoot her. Ridiculous.
Rebel Moon 2 - Kora kills a young girl. Shoots her dead in cold blood. Terrifying.

Oh man I hate that trope in movies where people with guns decide to run toward their target when they already have a clear line of fire.

I cringe every time, when people praise Snyder for the visuals & fight scenes in his early movies, because he didn't actually created them, he happened to have talented stunt coordinators & DP's working for him, that's all.
The fight scenes in 300 & Watchmen for example were choreographed by the 87Eleven Stunt Team of Chad Stahelski & David Leitch, the people behind the John Wick franchise, Atomic Blonde, Bullet Train etc. For some reason Snyder, did not brought them back for Army of the Dead & Rebel Moon and it shows. Just watch this ''hallway fight'' in the space ship corridor. You can literally see the stunt guys moving extra slow, because the main actress can't keep up and they need to hide this. That's because they didn't properly rehearsed the fight choreo.
Same with the cinematography on his early movies, where Snyder had experienced DP's doing the camera work. On Army of the Dead & Rebel Moon, he was the DP himself and these movies look like dog shite, visually speaking. Completely out of focus scenes, chuck full with lens flares, the lighting is way off etc. etc.

I can agree with your point about Snyder relying too much on doing everything himself in his newer movies but I think it's unfair to say that he had nothing to do with why his early movies worked. As good as the fight choreographers and cinematographers are individually, there's only so much they can do without good direction to coordinate them all together. When you look at the best parts of Snyder's earlier work, like the visuals and action, a large part of that is because they are very well directed.

Imagine backstories of the characters actually tied into the heroine's killing of princess, and prelude/aftermath of killing being shown from different perspectives, as well as heroine being always on the background, teasing us with her role in all of it, until she finally confesses.
    Lol, stupid me.

Snyder's Justice League STILL wasn't a good movie.
It still had the same story beats and problems as Whedon's cut, just more slow motion and color desaturation.
Don't get how people love it. Snyder's fan base is the absolute worst.

I was so engaged with the farming. Why were so many people working so slow? Weren't they on an extreme time crunch? Is this all the grain? Surely we are fighting over more than this. These farmers lied about how much they have. They lied about how long it will take. Are they milling the grain into flour? Since when did they have time for that part? When did they have time to make banners!?

It’s ridiculously bad, but in all fairness, they’re doing what they think audiences want. Audiences today have the attention span of a toddler, if the “story” was a bit more slower paced, and better written, most of you guys would call it slow and unisteresting, if more action packed and gun ho but less of a story, which is what this is, ya’ll would find ways to criticize it. So it really shouldn’t matter what these write in the first place. My story is was way better than this, and i know these guys gave taken from it, which is called stealing some way. In the end you really can’t be concerned on what audiences think, just make a good story and people will like it, that’s it.

I enjoy some of his films, but Sucker Punch is ONLY good on a visual level. The “woman empowerment” movie where women retreat into their heads as they go through trauma like rape and abuse is about empowerment… of men. She ultimately gets lobotomized. What is that movie saying? Don’t try to fight back, just stay in your happy place and if you’re lucky Jon Hamm won’t make your brain malfunction?
