- After the surprise success of the Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Director Gore Verbinski and the entire cast of the first film returned for the first sequel, Dead Man’s Chest. The decade and-a-half old production provided tons of wild stunts, pioneering practical and visual effects, and a bunch of unforeseen challenges and setbacks.
Returning stars Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom, Jack Davenport, and Jack Sparrow himself, Johnny Depp, give candid sound bites about all aspects of the shoot, as well as provide hilarious bloopers. Orlando Bloom went for a spin in a big wheel and a bone cage, and Keira Knightley was able to flex her skills with a sword for the first time in the franchise. Cast newcomer Bill Nighy is also featured for his work portraying the villainous big bad and seafaring legend, Davy Jones.
John Knoll and his team at Industrial Light & Magic get the spotlight as well when the break down the Davy Jones cgi, and their groundbreaking approach to motion capture when it came to bringing the tentacle-faced Flying Dutchman captain to the screen. Special effects played a big role in other parts of the production too, most notably with Davy Jones’ terrifying pet, the Kraken. With the combination of real effects they performed on set and the work the VFX team did in postproduction, the crew was able to have the monster interact with people on the ship, and even take down an entire ship.

i spent one week on a movie as an extra. Its the most boring and yet hard thing I ever did. Stand around in hot costumes. do nothing but the same thing over, and over, and OVER again
Trust after two weeks you would want to go home. Your not relaxing In the Caribbean, your either working, waiting , or back on those boats. 15 hour days with no breaks are common for these big shoots. And that’s why soon Hollywood workers wil strike.

He said during this current trial that no matter what Disney offered him he wouldn't return because of the way they were so quick to judge him and believe the lies amber turd spread. Very sad and I wouldn't watch a Pirates movie without him in it either. 😢 I really hope that he wins in court.

All those practical sets were worth it, CGI cannot match it. To this day Dead Man's Chest and At World's End are some of the best looking films ever made, far beyond 4 and 5

I was too young when I watched this movie and didn’t really understand it to the fullest but just enjoy the action filled thrilling scenes. But now. Wow. Look at the casts!!!!!!! Im gonna watch this again even though I hate watching the same movie more than once. It’s been long enough I forgot much about it anyway

A lot of people don't understand is when you're filming on locations particularly ones that are in the middle of nowhere you have to bring a whole catering staff along with you because it's not just the actors it's the whole Crew that have to be fed so it's very very expensive but in a long run it's worth this is one area that you cannot skimp on
i agree, one of the things that makes these movies special is that they are (mostly) filmed on location and not green screen. also using the actual ships might have been a nightmare but it adds so much authenticity and immersion to the movies when you feel like YOURE on an actual boat with the characters (through the camera). it must be a nightmare in many respects but filming on location for any movie will make it feel more real.
Johnny Depps is the BEST!! NOBODY can replace him in this Pirate of the Carribbean....
They’d better not waste their money making another Pirates of the Caribbean movie if Johnny isn’t in it because not many will go and see it. 💯
I hope they do and it completely bombs just so Disney realizes the biggest fucking mistake they've ever made since they screwed over Robin Williams in the Aladdin debacle. Whoever sat around the conference table and said hey, let's dump one of our biggest money making actors before the trial ends and we know if he's innocent or not....should be fired. Even more reason for the jury to come back and say he wins so Disney has egg on their face.

Such a huge movie, obviously will face BIG challenges, they managed to pull it off and had success.
There are definitely some memorable shocking scenes in the pirates of the Caribbean, incredible how many people appreciated this movie, I only watch some of the series, this movie was over whelming in an unexpected way.
That looks like sooooo much fun Johnny needs to come back and if he doesnt NEVER make another one again out of respect for him. He basically carried the whole franchise.
If he's not in the next pirates of the Caribbean then I ain't watching it

This was the absolute best of the franchise.
Verbinski's tale telling is incredible. Directing an entire trilogy which is still famous for it's humor, graphical effects, and storyline is difficult. He did it fabulously. So did the actors with their portrayal of their characters. It's such a shame they replaced him for the last two.

How can you not love Jack Sparrow. Johnny Depp is a genius with developing multidimensional characters. He is a true character actor and the world's finest.

What I like about the 3 films was that the swordfighting each film they decided to one up every sword fighting scene that they potentially could do and that Ferris wheel sword fight between the 3 of them rolling around and having them experience weightlessness and still fighting with swords and everything that you could do simultaneously is one of the most expensive difficult sword fighting scenes ever put on film
You compare that with the princess bride and some of the sword fighting scenes from Catherine island

I adore these movies ...The first three, that is. The second and third one are unironically two of my favourite movies of all time. You can just watch them over and over. They're so much fun and very cozy. Hollywood just doesn't make pure adventure genre swashbuckling epics like this anymore, now it's all just superhero and cinematic universe stuff.
