i love your rambles. the way you articulate yourself is beautiful and the thoughtfulness with which you allow yourself to see the world and think about things inspires me. i hope i grow up to be like you.
I listen to this whenever I'm really struggling to do chores because it has extremely comforting vibes and always revitalizes my ability to treat myself and the things around me, especially the cyclical things around me, with more grace and kindness and mindfulness. Thank you 🌺🌺🌺
I really liked this video!! it reminded me of some conversations I've seen regarding productivity/discipline/self-care, and how when we're burned out our first instinct can be to pivot and do nothing at all-which may sound nice in theory, but in reality can leave us feeling even more depleted (esp because there are things that just need to be done). when I was super burned out from academics a few years ago it was most helpful to reduce my obligations down to the true essentials and follow through on getting them done, and that included a lot of chores + very simple tasks (making breakfast, doing laundry). when it became difficult to accomplish other things, I found a lot of meaning in those small daily acts, and they helped me gain back a sense of self-efficacy, so I could go on to do things that were much harder, but much more fulfilling as well. anyways, thanks as always for the interesting content!
I always find myself coming back to these rambles to calm down. Always soothing and I’m always left feeling like I want to be a better, more thoughtful and loving person; not only to the world but myself too. Thank you, Mauve.🎐 Also, I’d love to hear more of your take on these kinds of topics. I love how strong minded you are. Love how you know exactly what you want and why you want them. I def know I’m listening to words that have substance and alot of love & intention behind them. Love ya🖤
Aw thank you so much for this. That's really nice to hear! I've actually been thinking about doing similar rambles, maybe on social media, marriage, the beauty industry but had been holding off because videos where I express my true thoughts on tricky topics can attract nasty comments. The comments themselves don't bother me at all but sometimes it does make me question whether people are enjoying the videos. All this to say -- thank you for letting me know! I'll likely do more in the future 💜
@@MauveASMR I personally believe that the best art is made when the artist fully expresses their feelings and genuine creative vision from the headspace and heartspace that they’re creating the art for themselves. Not being influenced by what the reaction may be! Also, your community has an overwhelming majority of lovely and well adjusted people who fundamentally agree with your well thought out opinions. I personally see that a lot of the heartfelt comments on your channel are based on the fact that they adore the magic of watching your mind unspindle a personal realisation or story for them. It’s the unique flow of your channel and no one else in your lane is as good at it! When it comes to politicised issues, there will never be 100% agreement. Even on things like the shape of the earth! (It’s clearly flat 🙄.) efforts to fix a social issue only exist in the first place due to the fact that there’s a well vocalised gap in opinion. If no one ever said they disagree with or disliked something because it is controversial, nothing would ever change and the flint stones would be seen as a sci fi movie! You are affirming thousands of people’s beliefs, making people consider a problem they hadn’t noticed before, or maybe even shifting their belief system to one that’s more based in love and empathy. I think that’s way more meaningful than not pissing off the people who disagree and would hate anyway! That ORRRRRR….. Just make a second channel. 🤭
This was such an interesting ramble Mauve!!!☺️✨🙏💕 I am grateful for having the opportunity to take care of my loved ones and i am lucky that they want to take care of me!!! Laundry means we ve been on the go and the dishes means having food on the table and the very cycle of all of it chores, daily tasks and responsibilities means life to me💕 So much beauty in between and during if we choose to see it that way ☺️
Thanks so much for making this video! I had to come watch it again because the first time it knocked me out 😴 after like 2 mins. You made me realize something (finally). I used to think I didn’t like doing chores at home because I do so much cleaning at work. But, I kind of enjoy helping homebound people clean up huge, hazardous, overwhelming messes because it makes an obvious positive difference. After I’m there long enough to get the place clean and just do upkeep I get bored out of my mind and same at home. It really is the never ending dishes and such that feel energetically draining. What you said about Thay reminds me of the saying, “Before enlightenment, chop wood and carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood and carry water.” Music really does help too. 🙏🏼
I love these videos! It's always so nice getting to have the privilege of hearing your thought process on situations. I'm sure it's taken many repeats of working on things and many circumstances/situations to have the mindfulness that you have, but you always sound so nice and well thought out and these videos are so helpful! I think of myself as a really clean person to the point where I'm somehow questionably clean to my partner's family. But I still struggle with chores and productivity because I'm so easily overwhelmed and I can spiral fast. So I really appreciate the new ways of looking at these things so I can rework my frame of mind when doing these tasks!
So glad you enjoyed this one! There's always something new for me to work on -- it's never-ending! So yes, totally. That, too, is cyclical, and enjoyable for that reason, if I can find the right energy to approach it with. Also lol I hear you on being "too clean." Our place is definitely not uber clean but it is tidy, so sometimes when people come over they're like 👀
Agree 100% about how you do daily things is how you live your life overall! Beginning your day in a clean space sets the tone for your entire day, and taking the time and energy to clean translates to a willingness to put time and energy into other productive activities as well. I also think your space reflects your inner state and vice versa so living in a clean and organized environment translates to a clean and organized mind. Great ramble!
Totally! Truly I cannot think if my desk is a mess, for example. Reminds me of a book my partner read recently called The Extended Mind -- you might like it!
I recently saw your previous video, and I love your book videos, they are my favourite. However, I noticed, we don’t have the same taste in books but, the book, Rebecca, the way you explained it, idk it stayed with me. So I read it. AND IT BLEW MY MIND LIKE I GAVE IT 5 STARS (which is so rare for me). I am reading everything else in that video. OMG.
first of all love everything about this! love hearing your thoughts, the way you place ideas out there without judgement. also i had a teacher who planted the seed in my mind of “the way we do small things is the way we do all things” so looooved hearing you reiterate that! ❤
I loved this! the part about finding "ease" in something like doing the dishes or else it will affect your mindfulness in completing other tasks really struck me. I struggle with procrastination, and I often find that whenever I end up tackling the task, the only problem I have with it is that I'm rushed because I didn't leave myself enough time. Otherwise, the task wasn't worth procrastinating. It's really helpful to think of it like that, where by getting started now, I'm gifting myself that ease in order to get over the dread. thanks Mauve
Wow so many things you said in this video were really impactful to me. I think it’s definitely one that I’m going to come back to. I like doing chores because I like having a clean space but i think I typically think of them as a means to an end. This made me consider how the chore AND the clean result can both be calming or a space for peace. When you said “the way you do one thing is the way you do everything” really hit me as well. I couldn’t quite catch who you said you were referencing/quoting there. If you’ve got a minute, please let me know! Your life philosophies are so full of mindfulness and intention (or at least the ones you choose to share with us) and I’d love to hear how you came to some of them. Like how long it took you to realize some of these things or what influenced your belief system
"How the chore AND the clean result can both be calming" -- ahhh I love this! Absolutely!! I can't find the part of the video where I said that, but I think it's just something I've heard around, especially from my partner, and maybe also in books about Buddhism. As for how long it took me to realize some of them -- good question! I don't really know myself, but I'll try to reflect on that. In the new year I plan to do a video about various things I've learned, in case it's helpful to anyone else :)
I think the biggest mindset shift I've found about chores/cleaning/cooking etc. Is that my partner and I deserve a clean house and good food to eat. Us neglecting those tasks only hurts us by not giving ourselves a stress-free clean home. And I always find it easier to do things for others than it is to do for myself. So maybe I didn't want to cook that night but I know my partner would really appreciate having food to grab for work in the morning so I'll do it.
That's a great mindset shift -- I love that! I know I can't think straight unless my home is somewhat tidy/clean, and that's usually what motivates me to do it: the ability to enjoy my space shortly thereafter, and for the rest of the week or so
Thank you for another thoughtful video! I particularly enjoyed the parts on cyclical vs growth and connecting to your environment 💡Your rambles are the best 🌙
As adult I’ve struggled with attention. With the lack of attention, anxiety and bouts of inadequacy have crept in. I can’t tell you how refreshing and thought provoking this upload was for me. ❤
Aw I really enjoyed this video!! I love how you framed chores/cleaning as care because I see it the same way and it makes me appreciate the practice of doing them. I’ve been thinking a lot about how I need self discipline bc it’s hard to do work rn but I think reframing it as self care that I am doing to ease my mind is so important. Very inspirational:)💗
So glad it resonated with you-- thank you for sharing! Self-discipline yes, and I like to define self-discipline for myself in terms of what I would wish for a friend, ie. self-discipline that looks less like beating herself up and more like showing up for herself 💜
am feeling a bit nervous for a first date tomorrow so, as you are my designated comfort youtuber, this was a highly exciting upload notification to receive! thanks for being my internet safe place 💓
A lot of wisdom here, I’m at the point where there isn’t much friction at all for most chores but I use their existence as motivation to one day afford a personal chef & maid
Mauve! SO good to see ur vids again, I've been subscribed for a while now but stopped seeing your vides in my subscription box for some reason! The last video I watched was your kibbe video and I have to say it changed my life lol I've been living my best flamboyant gamine life ever since.
This should be interesting 🥰A clean house makes me happy and having done it gives me a sense of accomplishment. But I struggle with the daily/ cyclical chores. I will hopefully learn something
Cyclical things are often a struggle, especially the way society is currently set up -- don't worry! Doing it at all is half the battle, and on the way, you can start to practice finding small moments of enjoyment 💜
Coming home after working for 12 hours and this was literally just what I needed 🤗 Also I love the cleaning party haha Jesse and I do the same thing but idk if I’d ever describe it as “fun” 😂
Also friend B’s approach kinda rubs me the wrong way on multiple levels and I can’t quite place it. Like you refuse to clean, but that doesn’t mean the cleaning doesn’t happen, it just means your partner or your mom is taking on all that extra work. It seems a lil selfish and self indulgent I guess?
Me too, honestly. I find it very entitled, and I was trying to find a gentle way to challenge her framing of it (eg "I don't fold clothes bc my partner folds clothes better")
To me, Feminism (and a lot of other issues) is all about loving everyone enough to treat anyone you may meet with a strong baseline of empathy and respect. Not coming to judge people about aspects of themselves they can’t control, and making an attempt to give equal opportunity. That person must have some real issues to feel that treating their mother and significant other (the 2 most important people) with no respect is something noble and empowering. Even if she thinks making her boyfriend do all the cleaning is a form of feminism, she still said a woman should not do a second of cleaning… before making her mum do it 😂. Maybe there’s something deeper going on mentally where she feels she can’t actually take the mental toll to do it so she makes up any excuse she can to get out. Like ADHD or something. No interpersonal problem can’t be solved with love so I hope someone shows her the way to having a stronger aptitude for empathy as well as a personal value to do thankless everyday tasks for themselves and those she loves. Sorry for the essay but that was completely against my whole world view😅
