You still get the same vibes from the earlier chapters, just not as often. Each episode packed with development and information that is properly satisfting. I really enjoyed the series and would personally put it in the tier. I respect Kinbo's opinion greatly but guys.. please dont sleep on this one if you want something to enjoy watching in the genre then definitely watch it. Farming Life in another world doesn't have any slaves, it's a pretty chill/happy anime setting, none of the characters are forced to do what they do, also it's an enjoyable watch

If you love world building and no real romance with the main character (given he’s a slime who doesn’t have a gender and just goes by he/him) this is the anime for you. The animation and sound effects are also INSANE and there’s so many twist
I felt like that RE:Sword was pretty good overall and hyped up for another season. I even read the Manga. Maybe when you get older you can understand more of this father-daughter relationship and feeling that builds up piece by piece :)
Funny that you mentioned it but Skeleton Knight plot revolves in major part around him being skeleton without proper glands or emotions so his perception of situations are severely skewed , like he feels no remorse for killing. Later when he temporarily manages to revert his state it all hits home. So your dissatisfaction with him having no proper reaction on being issekaid is actually a plot point.

I feel that not putting Grimgar on at least good tier is crime against every living thing on earth. This show is not only very realistic, it tells the emotions of characters perfectly. Soundtrack is a masterpiece as well- when I sometimes listen to Rainy Tone I immediately remember the scene it played on with every detail, despite the last time I watched it was like 7 years ago.

Honestly, I feel like a lot of these is better in novel or manga format since it’s easy and quick to read and better for the writers to articulate details and make it look cool or put in more details to make things make sense and fluid. Whenever I watch an anime adaptation of them, I instantly feel an immense sense of “meh”. Edit: Though, I’d admit that this doesn’t apply in dogshite Isekai with no plot, in fact it’s mostly the ones with an actual plot that are more enjoyable.
Bookworm is in the top class category and still the novel is ON WHOLE NEW LEVEL compared to the anime adaptation. The manga is already a fucking masterpiece but there are so much more info to be gathered in the novel that the novel is still the best way to enjoy bookworm. Its absolutely mind wrapping how a show so heavy in politics and economics can be so damn entertaining while also being creeply dark without needing to tell you directly how messed up that world trully is.

Even in episode 2 it was stated that Nazarick was surrounded by Swamps and now they are surrounded by grasslands. I honestly thought most people would pick up on that. I guess it’s the SAO mindset.
To be more specific, he is transported to a world that resembles his game world but only superficially and in part because other players have been transported in the past and their influence has shaped the current state of the world.
Skeleton Knight in Another World's opening episode shows Ark's utter lack of Humanity. He can't feel the fear, regret, sadness or anything related to the death of others be it at his hand or at the hands of others. He plays the part of the Holy Paladin but his emotional range is as hollow as his armor until his curse gets lifted. The Show and Manga both undercut the dark nature of the story with over the top humor. Not nearly as dark as Overlord or Re:Zero but the source material doesn't really pull punches. Spoilers: When he does finally find a way to temporarily lift the curse and regain his flesh and blood body, all those pent up feelings hit him at once nearly killing him.
Exactly....and I really find it unreasonable for people to dislike an entire show just because of the "grape" scene. I personally find it a way of showing that this anime is more serious than its peers from the same genra from the get go 😂

It's actually insane if u read the light novels yhe show only gets better. For example the movie comes from the 6th light novel and the show only covers the first 3 the story just keeps on getting better with how they deal with the rest of the races.
Actually now there is no problem with the copyright issue because the NGNL author or yuu already paid it, but the main problem is many studio's scared to make NGNL S2 because it's really good so they doesn't want to take any risk.

I really love how (where we are in the web novel in re zero), Re zero stops feeling like an Isekai, Subaru has literally adapted to acting as if he was born in this world. The only thing reminding us that it's an Isekai that far into the story, it's just the "silly" vocabulary that Subaru uses sometimes, that no one other than him knows about
GATE: this one actually does explain each of the plot points in a cathardic way. If you had watched more than 3 episodes, you'd likely have learned more about it. This show gives you questions at the very beginning and answers them near the end.
Grimgar is one of those sleeper anime. Where it's not in my top list, and I don't think about it all the time. But it was honestly really good, and is super distinct from all these other shows. The art is GORGEOUS too.
Grimgar is one of the best Isekai that I read the LN and didn't drop midway. It feel like they got into Dark Soul without the respawn mechanic. One of the Isekai that I still think about , I just wish the plot was faster, even after 10 volumes there is basically no plot progression. One of the anime that I picture in my head has a darker tone than the Anime adaptation.

@@kqrvby Yes, do read it. Especially if you like to read story that the MC don't magically just get a cheat ability and face actual difficulty. Even the end of the anime, they make it seem like the MC got an upgrade , but his "critical hit" skill is not reliable in the LN. The story still contain more tragedy through out, but it never feel "edgy" or because of "stupid decision", if you know what I mean. So many story fail in those regards.

Yeah. It's pretty wild to make a video about how you watched all the Isikai and then spend more than half your video insulting the genre. If you hate it so much, leave the people who are actual fans to make the videos about it. The most criminally late in his list though was "Isikai Cheat Magician." It's not evil like some of the others, but in terms of quality writing, it's probably dead last. I swear whoever wrote the source was a junior high kid.

The thing I really loved about Overlord was like they took the time to really establish the side characters and you really kind of root for some of them and then seeing the side characters all having to interact with the denizens of Nazarick was fun. Like it had such horror-vibes when Brain encountered Shalltear, and really did such a good job building characters. I also like how it handled so many of the anime tropes that I normally cringe at. I really hope we get a season 5 one day.

The show cuts a lot of this out but in the novel Ainz overthinks everything and the author repeats and repeats and repeats the same points again and again. Like its fine that Ainz thinks about these things but I see this in a lot of japanese light novels where the author just constantly repeats things we already know and understand. YOu get page upon page of the author writing the same thing saying stuff in different ways.

I read the entirety of instant death novel and honestly it shouldn't even be considered an isekai anime but a comedy horror. The mc isnt a psychopath, he isn't exactly human, he is basically the end of existance being so bored that with a fraction of his power he created an avatar that endlessly reincarnates as japanese for sheer entertainment, this time a highschool boy. In overlord Ainz isn't human either, but we still hope he destroys evil people, and spares the good guys, and when it happens, it is so satisfying, and when he doesnt its sad. Exactly the same with AO, there are so many times you meet really cool or good characters, and you hope they don't attack our MC, on the other hand you cant wait for the evil god like characters to attack him. And just like in overlord, sometimes the good guys go against our MC and die, and the bad guys end up living. The comedy aspect is that the power scaling of the universe is insane, every character could be a main character of another story, the novel even gives many an introductory chapter as if they were the MC, they have powers that could carry an entire isekai series, they almost make you think they can pose a threat for our MC, they are just in the wrong genre and dont know it.
I read it as well, and alpha Omega's whole deal with say, undead, is that if it's moving, it can die, even if it's already dead. He doesn't even do instant death, he just ends things.
Overlord has the best storytelling in all of the isekai genre. If you read the light novel, you would know it. The character introduction and character development are very good. While Mushoko Tensei is good, now he can't find fault with an Old Man flirting with children as with The World's finest Assassin reincarnated as an Aristocrat. Re Zero is good, but Subaru is the only character that has a presence in the anime. I haven't read the novel, but from the anime, I feel that the other characters don't do justice to the anime, the same as Subaru.
Hack/Sign was way ahead of its time. As it is from 2002, it surely takes a lot of time to get going. But i liked it and it aged much better than its competition.
Hell yeah it's a GOAT to me. My favourite RE:Zero episode was 19 which was just a solid 20 minute long conversation and with hack//sign I get that every episode!

There are a lot on this list that I think are where they are at due to his personal opinions and not due to actual factual reasons for why they're bad. Several times he calls characters cardboard when I think he just doesn't vibe with them or understand them. . . But that's fine it's a personal opinion. And I think some of us do have our own biases is we enjoy shity shows simply because the premise makes us happy. I think there's plenty of isekai that I rank rather highly that honestly aren't that good

That’s 376 different anime’s all with like 10 to 12 episodes at the bare minimum not including seasons and if he did try to watch every singular isekai episode in every anime he’d either die of boredom or just drop the video altogether. The problem is, it's incredibly boring. I watched 5 episodes of the anime and just felt like it was dragging on and on with how, everyday was just something small happening and than a black 5 second screen of text saying next day. Legit, it gets to the point where it says, it rained and goes to black again why?!!! Just skip that! Because I am a sucker for punishment I even read the manga, not even that saves the series. The main character is better for sure in the manga but in no way is a good story. Same problems as the anime but, I'm sure the series is just someone's excuse to make a self insert breeding fetish story.
@@Ilovecheeseguys I watched the majority of it and dropped it just the same. Trust me, that's not a normal person. If you have people around you like that, they're disabled. The main protagonist is not presented as disabled, just naive, and he gets tricked by the same character more than once, someone he knows isn't a good person. I put up with it until I couldn't take it any more. Plot induced stupidity is one thing that I can't stand and re: creators pushed that button one too many times. I still have a visceral reaction thinking about it so it's still very fresh in my mind despite being years since I tried to watch it.
Watching all episodes of Scumbag System had made my laugh so many times because it just has SUCH bad CGI - genuinely a masterpiece ngl. But fr it is surprisingly funny in how its written lol.

As a D1 Iruma fan, Iruma should be in the GOAT category, I love that show entirely to the characters, the animation, the nostalgic feel to it. I would recommend it to anyone.

Ascendence of a bookworm is my obsession, the anime is only in the basic world building so far. We got so much more of the world to explore and more amazing characters to be introduced as well as developed. The last book comes this fall and the next season of the anime is being produced. if anyone is curious the audiobooks can be found on odysee a youtube copy, on th Mayhem audio chanel, the anime ends woth part 2 book 4 so part 3 part 1 is next up, tho i recommend listening to it all i get that it isn't everyones vibe.

In recommend? Ya, no thanks. Power fantasy's I already don't get, and this one is extremely cringe. It fails to be funny in any way.
Scumbag System, also known as "Scum Villain’s Self Saving System" is an adaptation of an actually pretty good Chinese novel. The author is the same as Mo Dao Zu Shi and Heaven Officials Blessing, both of which have a pretty good anime and manhwa adaptation and I’d definitely recommend giving it a go. Though I do have to warn you that all of these titles are BL. In the adaptations it is very light so I wouldn’t be worried about it even if you don’t like this sort of thing, but I will still warn you. Definitely check it out if you have the time

Adding more details since I am an SV fan: Scum Villain’s Self Saving System (SVSSS) is a webnovel -> actual novel -> donghua (anime). The general premise is “World’s Most Closeted Hate Reader With too Much Time and Money Hate Reads so Hard He Fucking Dies Then Wakes Up as The Villain.” So it’s actually kind of closer to an otome isekai / villainess isekai than regular isekai,, but also the entire point of SVSSS is meta commentary on the stallion novel / power fantasy genre. So our MC is Shen Yuan who really really hates this power fantasy webnovel Proud Immortal Demon Way but can’t stop because he’s “reading it for the plot.” He dies. And then wakes up in the body of Shen Qingqiu, the evil teacher and early main antagonist of the protagonist Luo Binghe, who would eventually rule the world and amass a harem in the triple digits and blah blah blah. So Shen Qingqiu has to make sure that Luo Binghe doesn’t grow up to hate him. Also there’s a google translate ass AI system that keeps SQQ from acting out of character. Shen Yuan is also hilarious as fuck because he knows all the tropes, and every little detail of the plot, like bro was OBSESSED with this novel. If you read the book you’ll realize how unreliable of a narrator there is because there are so many hints that he’s not the straightest guy in the room but because he’s basically drowning in the Nile you won’t realize it if you take his narration at face value.

Like bruh... ... Some people have a time limit knowing how they'll die if they screw up and others are in a new life and can do whatever they want. Honestly, as soon as I seen cellphone and black summoner at dogshit tier (essentially, lowest of the lows) I stopped caring about the video, went to the applause section to see what he had to say. The finest assassin is a very great anime. I feel like the wise man's grandchild was listed unfairly. It's one of the only isekia where the MC is always using knowledge from his own world to keep getting stronger instead of disregarding the fact they are from earth after episode 1. But hey that's just my opinion
4 months after but I'm still commenting. It's generic. Also he doesn't rrl use any skills ge had from another world. He barely even remembers them all he does with them are small things that are nothing but glazing material. There is no stakes but they act like there are and all round the show is boring after generic ass and very cringe with its tropes.
I would only rank it higher because it's one of the few anime where there is a romantic interest that actually happens mutually and takes off. None of this guy doesn't say no but also doesn't say yes and the girl just pines for the dude just because.
Combatants Will Be Dispatched was actually written by the Konosuba writer (he wrote this before Konsuba), there's a lot of elements of Konosuba in it, it's just handled a lot better the second time around
Honestly, Ascendance of a Bookworm is one of my favorites in terms of world building. The characters are pretty great and the world feels like it could be a real place.
I’ll never get tired of isekai anime as long as the magic system is good and I like the main cast! It’s be definitely dropped some due to losing interest but I’ll always give it a shot
good list, but i gotta say "exorcist in another world" should be at least a tier up imo. it's op is super dope and it subverts the genre in several ways, the premise being he's a demon lord and is friends with the hero but is nerfing them by protecting them from danger, and the actual antagonists are basically the forces of the status quo who are sick of dealing with the hero and demon king cycle plunging their world into war all the time.
The Spider isekai was really interesting for me. It's sad that it won't get a 2nd season due to how bad the animation in the first. Plot was really mysterious raised a ton of unanswered questions. Too bad they screwed it up with the animation and how they handled the timeline storytelling. Human timeline was really boring but it should stay that way for a good reason, liked how it makes fun of Shun, the "wannabe isekai protagonist" with the exact same personality as any of those boring generic MCs, to see him just fail so horribly.
I would say read the ln but it’s really not as fleshed out and almost a different story than the anime and I’ve yet to find a manga, but reading it then rewatching makes the anime 10x better

Re: Monster just bothers me. I would have rated that show much lower. Same for a few of the others in your It's like alright list, but especially Re: Monster. Some I agree with and a few like I'm in love with the villainess and Raelina at duke's mansion I would rate a bit higher. (I also love many reverse harems with charming male characters)
imma be honest, the manga of "instant death ability" is actually pretty cool. without bad animation and decent voice acting to distract you, its easier to get through it until it starts to get kinda interesting, by embracing the protagonist's complete lack of stakes not really for comedy but to treat him as the literal embodiment of death for the people he opposes. some dude literally attempts to do a science experiment to figure out how exactly his powers work. not the best thing you could read right now but not something i would call "the worst". great video though, i wish you a speedy recovery from isekai fever
I agree. The manga portrays him as someone not just inhumane, but literally something not human(because he isn't). It's such a chaotic clusterfuck of random op character archetypes and neverending exposition, that a lot of the enjoyment comes from him just killing stuff so you don't have to listen to them yap about how their powers work anymore. I could tell immediately that the anime, without a lot of the darker styling the manga was drawn in, is not taking the same time or anything. I'd absolutely agree that it's not the best source material, but not deserving of such a low spot if adapted well into anime form.
I ended up watching from good to fin, then doubled back to the start. to get a perspective on what you enjoy to understand your tiers. All in all, I did agree with a lot of your feelings on shows. naturally, there were some "come on man, it's not that bad" moments but hey, it's your list. Not gonna fault you for it. Yeah, you gotta watch season 2, 3, and 4 of SAO and see where it stands. That's the sad thing is after the Alfheim arc a lot of people dropped it, but GGO wasn't bad, the post GGO/pre Alicization arc had a lot of emotional burns with Yuuki and such, Ordinal Scale introduces some more and goes into the Augma, then there's Alicization 1 and 2... if you don't know my boy Eugio, it's hard to judge now. The way he helped in war of underworld by pushing the others past their point of death (like Eldrie) just hits way different. Seriously, go watch the rest, it's worth it.
I agree, Sao is one of my old favorites but once Alfheim started yeah i can understand where a lot of the hate came from. Aincrad was amazing but couldve been further expanded instead of multiple time skips and some of the filler. GGO was amazing along with both Alicization arcs, havent seen any of the movies though.

The fact that you put an appropriate amount of respect on many of the oldies has my approval (Monster Rancher is a goofy little kid's show to be sure, hack//sign isn't everyone's cup of tea but I adore it, Mysterious Play aka Fuushigi Yugi is a banger shojo classic, and Magic Knight Rayearth - which has one of my favorite plot resolutions of all time both in the manga and anime adaptation - is actually supposed to be getting a remake soon). I especially think it would have been really good for you to get to watch Digimon Adventure, since you really get a whole lot more perspective while watching it when you're older, especially the JP dub (Butter-fly OP will never stop making me emotional) but nostalgia take is fine.

Animes that I liked were finest assasin,aristocrats otherworldly, how to not summon a demon lord, am I the strongest, the 300 slime thing, moonlit fantasy, Iruma kun, kobayashi, tensura and eminence in shadow. The other I knew from the list I just never got to actually watch or they were too ass to continue.

One thing to say. Monster Rancher is not a Digimon bootleg. Both franchises originate in 1997. Digimon got a Oneshot Manga, that got serialized as manga in 1998. Monster Rancher directly released as a PS1 game in 1997. Both anime came out in 1999. As a franchise I'd go with MR is older, or at best both are the same age. But with Digimon, it was a demo to look how it fares, and then it got the franchise treatment a year later. And Monster Rancher had a really cool feature that I wished others would have used to some degree, too. You could summon your monsters through stone disks ingame. You'd then enter a code and monsters would be summoned. You could get those ingame, or you could just put any CD you had lying around into your psx and it would read out some data from there to summon monsters. Being able to get a monster through reading out your favorite music album was a sick feature.

So many isekai, yet I'm surprised Aura Battler Dunbine isn't on the list since its the Grandfather of isekai in Japan and made by the creator of Gundam. There's also another isekai called Mashin Hero Wataru, but I only recognize it because of Super Robot Wars X since the SRW games are Mecha crossovers with series like Gundam, Aura Battler Dunbine, Code Geass, Evangelion, Gurren Lagann and even non Mecha series like Cowboy bebop in Super Robot Wars T. I can't imagine you doing this type video focusing on the Mecha genre 😅😅, but if you do, i recommend Mobile fighter G Gundam, Gunbuster, Cross Ange, Gun X Sword , Getter Robo Armageddon, Gaogaigar, and Space Runaway Ideon.
16:00 the funny thing is that Combatants Will Be Dispatched was written by the same author as Konosuba and Cautious Hero, both of which you ranked significantly higher on the list 33:53 I can't honestly blame you for not liking this one since it sounds like you watched pretty far into it, but I personally enjoyed the little theme/narrative of this big bad assassin that never had a chance to form proper relationships slowly making friends (though he thinks to himself that they're tools) and learning to trust in others. They even call it out in a later episode that the girls know he had ulterior motives for saving them (they were talented and obedient) but they choose to follow him anyway because they don't believe he's as bad of a person as he himself thinks he is, and I think that's sweet 38:43 I never watched the full thing, but the whole "why do they kill otherworlders" thing is kind of the main point of the story! It's overkill and the church tries to justify it as being something even the otherworlders themselves can't control so they need to be put down for their own good, but that narrative is broken when one otherworlder's entire power is literally just "can't die". SPOILER ALERT it's also revealed that the blonde assassin girl was originally from the class of a lot of the otherworlder's she's been disposing of and the church simply wiped her memory to have her serve their needs. Though in the end, I still agree, it's a largely shock value based show that doesn't have anything grander to say message wise or character wise 43:37 Leadale is objectively probably not that good, but it always resonated with me for some reason. The plot of this girl that never had the chance to have a normal life now getting to enjoy being in the world she used for escapism for so long is kind of touching, and she's also an interesting main character- she starts out very detached from everyone and everything because of course she would be, it's a game world to her. But events in the story happen and it starts to sink in that the world is real, and she should be taking it more seriously, so she has a nice little development arc. It's also unique because while she wants to live here, there are other otherworlders affected that just want to go home, including one literal 10 year old kid that made an edgy demon avatar and now that's his actual body and he has to live with the fact that he might never see his parents again. It just kind of touches on more uncomfortable stuff I don't see other isekai tackle very much except for maybe Mushoku Tensei 44:50 Oh man, Dog Days! I loved this show when I was young. I really liked the premise as it kind of had its cake and ate it too, you could have fun fights and suspenseful plot twists, but at the end of the day it's still a bright and cheery show with no stakes. If you take issue with that it's understandable, but I honestly can get down with that in a slice of life kind of way, and I don't see a lot of other shows doing this kind of thing in general 45:43 I know nobody really likes Villainess 99, but I found some things to like about it. To me, it's an ultimate rebuttal to the "revenge fantasy" genre that plagues a lot of isekai, where everyone unjustly hates the protagonist, but in this show she never really hates anyone back and instead uses her actions to prove she's not evil like everyone thinks she is, like a rational adult. Which is another thing, they don't shy away from the weirdness of an adult getting reincarnated into a teenager's body, and they show at multiple points that she's much more emotionally mature and developed than the rest of the cast, often dealing with and standing on the same stage as the adults. They also convincingly make her "lonely due to being too powerful" character trait work by showing that she by herself can't deal with every problem just by being level 99 and that she's fundamentally lacking in social and people skills- a fact that she actually laments. And despite, or perhaps because of, her high level, she ends up embroiled in power struggles and politics, which she doesn't want. It's got a super generic packaging, but some genuinely good character writing, I think 50:37 I've never watched this show specifically, but you should definitely give dot hack credit where it's due: it's not just *a* "trapped in an MMO isekai" it was *the first* trapped in an MMO isekai, ever. SAO popularized the idea, but dot hack was around probably a good 10 years before that, and for that alone it deserves recognition as a piece of history 1:00:36 You skipped over it but 7th Prince is actually surprisingly good, especially in the animation department it's kinda goated, and later on in the series they start giving the main character some growth and exploring more serious themes (it gets way darker than you'd expect it to). Definitely a sleeper hit 1:01:14 The Familiar of Zero is kind of famous from a historical perspective, as it was seen as one of the first shows to popularize isekai as a wish fulfillment thing. Previous shows such as Inuyasha (which never ended up on the list for some reason despite being a really influential show at the time that has a fairly unique take on isekais) had isekai as a plot point, but oftentimes it was a straightforward adventure where the characters had to accomplish something to get home, but this was the first where the characters end up just aimlessly living in the new world 1:42:13 Angel Beats is one of my all time favorites as well, but unfortunately it was the swan song for Key visual novel adaptations: Angel Beats was originally meant to be 24 episodes, but corporate meddling cut that number in half and the director (who had worked on all the other famous stuff such as Clannad, Air, etc.) straight up walked out after the series was done. Due to the cut episode count some characters straight up didn't get to have their backstories, and since it's anime original we'll never know what they were. After that Charlotte and then Rewrite were utter garbage, which hurt because they so very obviously had the potential to be great but they were stifled by corporate greed... I think there's a new one coming out soon-ish so I'll have a look at it, but I'm not feeling too optimistic

So after finishing the video. Glad to see Youjo Senki (Saga of Tanya the Evil) at least good. However, if you are a history buff you should 100% watch it. Its fantasy (magic aspect), but the main premise is that its alternate history. The Light Novel author goes extremely indepth of parallel events that happen in the world of youjo senki with a bit of a twist. There's not much isekai out there that could be suited for history buffs or even military buffs, so I'd definitely give youjo senki a watch. Got 12 episodes and a movie so its pretty easy to catch up on. It leans more into WW1 tactics, but there is also recognizable topics of WW2. The world I'd say is more centered around WW1, pretty unique for me.
Ranking Tanya the Evil so low while crap like RE:Zero is top tier is very questionable. Its such a great work, but if you got some education in history its even better (well, maybe there is the problem)
@@ruas4721 eh, Re:Zero is a pretty good isekai with the writing. I also personally believe it ranks higher than youjo senki cause to enjoy it fully you need to have knowledge of history imo. Whilst Re:Zero you don't really need any knowledge for an enjoyable experience besides common sense on feelings & emotions. However, I do fully believe it should be in a higher tier. No other isekai has copied the route youjo senki took, its pmuch grounded with a few fantasy aspects. Its why it'll remain as one of my favourite animes.

@@beastynado i think its fairly reasonable to decide to stop watching a video when i dont enjoy watching it, no? also its not like im trying to say that he is just outright wrong, because that is impossible since it is at the end of the day his personal oppinion, but i do feel like im making some reasonable points when i say that he makes questionable ratings of the anime when he only watched the trailer in some cases and in other cases merely watched till the 2nd episode. as example: for the rating of Spirit Chronicles, he ends his short reasoning basically saying the rest of the anime becomes an average school life anime. In fact spirit chronicles does NOT do this, and it changes away from this after 1 maybe 2 episodes. this proves the point that he only watched 2 episodes and then made a rating of THE WHOLE anime here in this video. people who could posibly like an anime a lot, could be very likely discouraged from watching that anime because what he said. and i know the argument such people should just watch shows and make their own decision, but lets be honest, most people will look at this kind of video and WILL inevitably make a preemptive decision based on this video.

So regarding dot hack sign... it's generic because it was the very first ever "trapped in an MMORPG" series, penned before WoW, possibly even before EverQuest. It often waxes philosophical because most people at the time didn't understand MMORPG mechanics. (in contrast, SAO is far more mechanical)

Legit he is prity much death it’s self anything that he kills is dead forever their is no god said be revived and they are back. The higher gods in the show legit know what he is and are scared shitless by it. He also has the power to kill anything not just based off of if it is a living being he can litterally say the law of gravity in the surrounding area is dead and gravity would stop working. He is overpowered but at the end of the day he is a literal force of nature. Also them saying that he was a murderer is also not really true in a since death is natural and he was just doing his job in a way.
As soon as I saw the ranking of that show and a few others on this list, I immediately didn't agree with the entire list. When I finished the video, I only agreed with about 20% of what was said. He missed the mark on so many decent isekai over a sensitivity towards certain things.
I watched it way back and it was something unique. Unlike other isekai, grimgar felt dangerous, even the most basic monsters were dangerous and the character forced to grow and learn from their mistakes. In addition, the cool thing about it was that people aren't more powerful because of "higher stats" or whatever, but due to combat experience and knowledge in addition to training. The adults are wildly more powerful than the kids, but just way more experienced, and it shows how inexperienced the kids were later on. The mx and his group are "weak" by isekai standards, but its because of their weakness a lot of the story has stakes and the drama makes sense. They do this dangerous job day in and day out to put food on the table, and its either doing that or starving. I don't want to spoil any of it here, but yeah, that included with the nice art puts it pretty high up. People who want power fantasy or mcs that don't act like their age or how they normally would (sheltered like most people living in the city as teens in a developed country), wouldn't enjoy the anime.
yeah, first time i watch ( 3 episodes) i got bored and give up. years later after grown up, come back and watch (all of the episodes) now i undertand and get hooked up so much i read the whole light novel. i think what makes grimgar not popular is because the "isekai" tag itself, when i see "isekai" i expect adventure, good action, and interaction with the world, something that is not exist and cannot do in realworld. but grimgar focussing on human interaction, emotion, and the goal is simple, to get live peacefully, not something big, they didn't try to get back to real world, they curious how they got here (isekai) but dealing with daily expenses first. they fight because that is all they can do to earn money. most of isekai is some kind of "escape from reality" and grimgar slamming you back to it, with all the problem. the first mistake of watching grimgar is expecting to watch "isekai anime" you should treat it like a movie.
I just happened to binge TEIS after getting recommended it, not knowing a single thing about it and right after season 1 finished my singular thought was "What the fuck just happened" and I rewatched immediately because it was so trash but fucking beautiful and I didn't know what was happening. Never let bro cook again. For the record i have finished most (around 80%) of the animes on this list watching the ENTIRE anime and know some context from the manga. From the bottom 2 tiers many shows are great but i think the main reason he doesn't understand their quality is because he was actively watching too much and didn't even watch the entire anime. Over all from the bottom 2 tiers i would say alot of them deserve a higher spot even in a tier like amazing or something and thats not even including the manga. A lot of things from the mid tier was also alot better than what he said again because he didn't watch it all or doesn't know the manga or was just watching too much anime which led to stress. From the higher tiers i would agree with most of the ratings but the way he described them is really far from how good it actually is. On the goat tier list should be Reincarnated as a slime, Mushoku Tensei, overlord, moonlight fantasy and a few more. The worldbuilding makes an explosive growth after the end of Part 2, which is right about after the part where the anime ends (until they release the next season).
You still get the same vibes from the earlier chapters, just not as often. The plot thickens, the stakes rise, foreshadowing pays off, and worldbuilding continues gradually expanding, AND IT MAKES SENSE within its own internal logic.

Bro, honestly. The anime named: how a realist rebuilt the kingdom was honestly in the Good tier for me personally. The anime is a decent banger imo. 26 episodes. Each episode packed with development and information that is properly satisfting. I really enjoyed the series and would personally put it in the tier. I respect Kinbo's opinion greatly but guys.. please dont sleep on this one if you want something to enjoy watching in the genre then definitely watch it. Funny that you mentioned it but Skeleton Knight plot revolves in major part around him being skeleton without proper glands or emotions so his perception of situations are severely skewed , like he feels no remorse for killing. Later when he temporarily manages to revert his state it all hits home.
So your dissatisfaction with him having no proper reaction on being issekaid is actually a plot point.

I feel that not putting Grimgar on at least good tier is crime against every living thing on earth. This show is not only very realistic, it tells the emotions of characters perfectly. Soundtrack is a masterpiece as well- when I sometimes listen to Rainy Tone I immediately remember the scene it played on with every detail, despite the last time I watched it was like 7 years ago.
The fact that we will never get a season 2 for Grimgar is actually one of the most criminal offenses this world has committed.

Honestly, I feel like a lot of these is better in novel or manga format since it’s easy and quick to read and better for the writers to articulate details and make it look cool or put in more details to make things make sense and fluid. Whenever I watch an anime adaptation of them, I instantly feel an immense sense of “meh”.
Edit: Though, I’d admit that this doesn’t apply in dogshite Isekai with no plot, in fact it’s mostly the ones with an actual plot that are more enjoyable.
Mushoku is a good adaptation I recommend the anime and the light novel
not only can the writers articulate details easier, but so can the readers. As they say, the movies/series can never surpass a readers imagination.
Yeah while I like the Rezero anime the light novel is honestly just so much better it's insane (arc 6 is peak fiction)
Bookworm is in the top class category and still the novel is ON WHOLE NEW LEVEL compared to the anime adaptation. The manga is already a fucking masterpiece but there are so much more info to be gathered in the novel that the novel is still the best way to enjoy bookworm. Its absolutely mind wrapping how a show so heavy in politics and economics can be so damn entertaining while also being creeply dark without needing to tell you directly how messed up that world trully is.

Many Religions that we know nowadays, at their beginning were true and under Islam, initiated by one of the prophets of God, but their original teachings, history and scriptures have been corrupted over time with falsification and polytheism, or lost and replaced with false ones. That's why Islam is the only Religion accepted by God nowadays, which consists in bearing witness that there is no god besides Allah (God in Aramaic, the original language of Jesus and the Gospel), and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, just like Jesus and Moses and others are His servants and messengers. Never a messenger of God said he was God or literally son of God, it was the people after him who changed the words of God and corrupted the Religion. God is unique and absolute, He does not need to have a family and sons or to associate anyone else with His kingdom, He can simply create whatever He wants, everything belongs to Him, and to Him everything will return. Allah said in Surah Al-Mu’minun : “God has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what it has created, and some of them would have gained supremacy over others. Glory be to God, far beyond what they describe. The Knower of the hidden and the manifest. He is exalted, far above what they associate. (91-92 / Translated by ITANI).
Allah means the one and only God, the God of all prophets and creatures, the creator of the universe and mankind, and the Master of the Day of judgment, where our destiny, Hell or Paradise, is decided based on our faith and deeds in this trial life, and above all, Allah's mercy.
Allah said in Surah Al-Ikhlas : In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful.
Say, “He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is none comparable to Him.” (1-4 / Translated by ITANI).

But as for him who denies the truth of God's messages - behold, God is swift in reckoning!
Thus, [O Prophet,] if they argue with thee, say, "I have surrendered my whole being unto God, and [so have] all who follow me!" - and ask those who have been vouchsafed revelation aforetime, as well as all unlettered people, "Have you [too] surrendered yourselves unto Him?" And if they surrender themselves unto Him, they are on the right path; but if they turn away - behold, thy duty is no more than to deliver the message: for God sees all that is in [the hearts of] His creatures.
Verily, as for those who deny the truth of God's messages, and slay the prophets against all right, and slay people who enjoin equity - announce unto them a grievous chastisement.
It is they whose works shall come to nought both in this world and in the life to come; and they shall have none to succour them.

Even in episode 2 it was stated that Nazarick was surrounded by Swamps and now they are surrounded by grasslands. I honestly thought most people would pick up on that. I guess it’s the SAO mindset.

Skeleton Knight in Another World's opening episode shows Ark's utter lack of Humanity. He can't feel the fear, regret, sadness or anything related to the death of others be it at his hand or at the hands of others. He plays the part of the Holy Paladin but his emotional range is as hollow as his armor until his curse gets lifted. The Show and Manga both undercut the dark nature of the story with over the top humor. Not nearly as dark as Overlord or Re:Zero but the source material doesn't really pull punches.
Spoilers: When he does finally find a way to temporarily lift the curse and regain his flesh and blood body, all those pent up feelings hit him at once nearly killing him.
Exactly....and I really find it unreasonable for people to dislike an entire show just because of the "grape" scene.
I personally find it a way of showing that this anime is more serious than its peers from the same genra from the get go 😂

It's actually insane if u read the light novels yhe show only gets better. For example the movie comes from the 6th light novel and the show only covers the first 3 the story just keeps on getting better with how they deal with the rest of the races.

I really love how (where we are in the web novel in re zero), Re zero stops feeling like an Isekai, Subaru has literally adapted to acting as if he was born in this world. The only thing reminding us that it's an Isekai that far into the story, it's just the "silly" vocabulary that Subaru uses sometimes, that no one other than him knows about

Grimgar is one of those sleeper anime. Where it's not in my top list, and I don't think about it all the time. But it was honestly really good, and is super distinct from all these other shows. The art is GORGEOUS too.
Grimgar is one of the best Isekai that I read the LN and didn't drop midway. It feel like they got into Dark Soul without the respawn mechanic. One of the Isekai that I still think about , I just wish the plot was faster, even after 10 volumes there is basically no plot progression.
One of the anime that I picture in my head has a darker tone than the Anime adaptation.

The story still contain more tragedy through out, but it never feel "edgy" or because of "stupid decision", if you know what I mean. So many story fail in those regards.

The thing I really loved about Overlord was like they took the time to really establish the side characters and you really kind of root for some of them and then seeing the side characters all having to interact with the denizens of Nazarick was fun. Like it had such horror-vibes when Brain encountered Shalltear, and really did such a good job building characters. I also like how it handled so many of the anime tropes that I normally cringe at. I really hope we get a season 5 one day.

The show cuts a lot of this out but in the novel Ainz overthinks everything and the author repeats and repeats and repeats the same points again and again. Like its fine that Ainz thinks about these things but I see this in a lot of japanese light novels where the author just constantly repeats things we already know and understand. YOu get page upon page of the author writing the same thing saying stuff in different ways.

I read the entirety of instant death novel and honestly it shouldn't even be considered an isekai anime but a comedy horror. The mc isnt a psychopath, he isn't exactly human, he is basically the end of existance being so bored that with a fraction of his power he created an avatar that endlessly reincarnates as japanese for sheer entertainment, this time a highschool boy. In overlord Ainz isn't human either, but we still hope he destroys evil people, and spares the good guys, and when it happens, it is so satisfying, and when he doesnt its sad. Exactly the same with AO, there are so many times you meet really cool or good characters, and you hope they don't attack our MC, on the other hand you cant wait for the evil god like characters to attack him. And just like in overlord, sometimes the good guys go against our MC and die, and the bad guys end up living. The comedy aspect is that the power scaling of the universe is insane, every character could be a main character of another story, the novel even gives many an introductory chapter as if they were the MC, they have powers that could carry an entire isekai series, they almost make you think they can pose a threat for our MC, they are just in the wrong genre and dont know it.
I read it as well, and alpha Omega's whole deal with say, undead, is that if it's moving, it can die, even if it's already dead. He doesn't even do instant death, he just ends things.

Overlord has the best storytelling in all of the isekai genre. If you read the light novel, you would know it.
The character introduction and character development are very good.
While Mushoko Tensei is good, now he can't find fault with an Old Man flirting with children as with The World's finest Assassin reincarnated as an Aristocrat.
Re Zero is good, but Subaru is the only character that has a presence in the anime. I haven't read the novel, but from the anime, I feel that the other characters don't do justice to the anime, the same as Subaru.

There are a lot on this list that I think are where they are at due to his personal opinions and not due to actual factual reasons for why they're bad. Several times he calls characters cardboard when I think he just doesn't vibe with them or understand them. . . But that's fine it's a personal opinion. And I think some of us do have our own biases is we enjoy shity shows simply because the premise makes us happy. I think there's plenty of isekai that I rank rather highly that honestly aren't that good

That’s 376 different anime’s all with like 10 to 12 episodes at the bare minimum not including seasons and if he did try to watch every singular isekai episode in every anime he’d either die of boredom or just drop the video altogether. The problem is, it's incredibly boring. I watched 5 episodes of the anime and just felt like it was dragging on and on with how, everyday was just something small happening and than a black 5 second screen of text saying next day. Legit, it gets to the point where it says, it rained and goes to black again why?!!! Just skip that! Because I am a sucker for punishment I even read the manga, not even that saves the series. The main character is better for sure in the manga but in no way is a good story. Same problems as the anime but, I'm sure the series is just someone's excuse to make a self insert breeding fetish story.
@@Ilovecheeseguys I watched the majority of it and dropped it just the same. Trust me, that's not a normal person. If you have people around you like that, they're disabled. The main protagonist is not presented as disabled, just naive, and he gets tricked by the same character more than once, someone he knows isn't a good person. I put up with it until I couldn't take it any more. Plot induced stupidity is one thing that I can't stand and re: creators pushed that button one too many times. I still have a visceral reaction thinking about it so it's still very fresh in my mind despite being years since I tried to watch it.

As a D1 Iruma fan, Iruma should be in the GOAT category, I love that show entirely to the characters, the animation, the nostalgic feel to it. I would recommend it to anyone.

Ascendence of a bookworm is my obsession, the anime is only in the basic world building so far. We got so much more of the world to explore and more amazing characters to be introduced as well as developed. The last book comes this fall and the next season of the anime is being produced.
if anyone is curious the audiobooks can be found on odysee a youtube copy, on th Mayhem audio chanel, the anime ends woth part 2 book 4 so part 3 part 1 is next up, tho i recommend listening to it all i get that it isn't everyones vibe.

Scumbag System, also known as "Scum Villain’s Self Saving System" is an adaptation of an actually pretty good Chinese novel. The author is the same as Mo Dao Zu Shi and Heaven Officials Blessing, both of which have a pretty good anime and manhwa adaptation and I’d definitely recommend giving it a go. Though I do have to warn you that all of these titles are BL. In the adaptations it is very light so I wouldn’t be worried about it even if you don’t like this sort of thing, but I will still warn you.
Definitely check it out if you have the time

Scum Villain’s Self Saving System (SVSSS) is a webnovel -> actual novel -> donghua (anime). The general premise is “World’s Most Closeted Hate Reader With too Much Time and Money Hate Reads so Hard He Fucking Dies Then Wakes Up as The Villain.” So it’s actually kind of closer to an otome isekai / villainess isekai than regular isekai,, but also the entire point of SVSSS is meta commentary on the stallion novel / power fantasy genre.
So our MC is Shen Yuan who really really hates this power fantasy webnovel Proud Immortal Demon Way but can’t stop because he’s “reading it for the plot.” He dies. And then wakes up in the body of Shen Qingqiu, the evil teacher and early main antagonist of the protagonist Luo Binghe, who would eventually rule the world and amass a harem in the triple digits and blah blah blah.
So Shen Qingqiu has to make sure that Luo Binghe doesn’t grow up to hate him. Also there’s a google translate ass AI system that keeps SQQ from acting out of character. Shen Yuan is also hilarious as fuck because he knows all the tropes, and every little detail of the plot, like bro was OBSESSED with this novel. If you read the book you’ll realize how unreliable of a narrator there is because there are so many hints that he’s not the straightest guy in the room but because he’s basically drowning in the Nile you won’t realize it if you take his narration at face value.

It's generic. Also he doesn't rrl use any skills ge had from another world. He barely even remembers them all he does with them are small things that are nothing but glazing material. There is no stakes but they act like there are and all round the show is boring after generic ass and very cringe with its tropes.
I would only rank it higher because it's one of the few anime where there is a romantic interest that actually happens mutually and takes off. None of this guy doesn't say no but also doesn't say yes and the girl just pines for the dude just because.
Combatants Will Be Dispatched was actually written by the Konosuba writer (he wrote this before Konsuba), there's a lot of elements of Konosuba in it, it's just handled a lot better the second time around
Honestly, Ascendance of a Bookworm is one of my favorites in terms of world building. The characters are pretty great and the world feels like it could be a real place.

good list, but i gotta say "exorcist in another world" should be at least a tier up imo. it's op is super dope and it subverts the genre in several ways, the premise being he's a demon lord and is friends with the hero but is nerfing them by protecting them from danger, and the actual antagonists are basically the forces of the status quo who are sick of dealing with the hero and demon king cycle plunging their world into war all the time.
The Spider isekai was really interesting for me. It's sad that it won't get a 2nd season due to how bad the animation in the first. Plot was really mysterious raised a ton of unanswered questions. Too bad they screwed it up with the animation and how they handled the timeline storytelling. Human timeline was really boring but it should stay that way for a good reason, liked how it makes fun of Shun, the "wannabe isekai protagonist" with the exact same personality as any of those boring generic MCs, to see him just fail so horribly.
I would say read the ln but it’s really not as fleshed out and almost a different story than the anime and I’ve yet to find a manga, but reading it then rewatching makes the anime 10x better

imma be honest, the manga of "instant death ability" is actually pretty cool. without bad animation and decent voice acting to distract you, its easier to get through it until it starts to get kinda interesting, by embracing the protagonist's complete lack of stakes not really for comedy but to treat him as the literal embodiment of death for the people he opposes. some dude literally attempts to do a science experiment to figure out how exactly his powers work.
not the best thing you could read right now but not something i would call "the worst". great video though, i wish you a speedy recovery from isekai fever

I agree. The manga portrays him as someone not just inhumane, but literally something not human(because he isn't). It's such a chaotic clusterfuck of random op character archetypes and neverending exposition, that a lot of the enjoyment comes from him just killing stuff so you don't have to listen to them yap about how their powers work anymore.
I could tell immediately that the anime, without a lot of the darker styling the manga was drawn in, is not taking the same time or anything. I'd absolutely agree that it's not the best source material, but not deserving of such a low spot if adapted well into anime form.
I ended up watching from good to fin, then doubled back to the start. to get a perspective on what you enjoy to understand your tiers. All in all, I did agree with a lot of your feelings on shows. naturally, there were some "come on man, it's not that bad" moments but hey, it's your list. Not gonna fault you for it. Good on ya for wading through the trash to come to your own conclusion, instead of just MAL'n it. Commendable effort!

Yeah, you gotta watch season 2, 3, and 4 of SAO and see where it stands. That's the sad thing is after the Alfheim arc a lot of people dropped it, but GGO wasn't bad, the post GGO/pre Alicization arc had a lot of emotional burns with Yuuki and such, Ordinal Scale introduces some more and goes into the Augma, then there's Alicization 1 and 2... if you don't know my boy Eugio, it's hard to judge now. The way he helped in war of underworld by pushing the others past their point of death (like Eldrie) just hits way different. Seriously, go watch the rest, it's worth it.
I agree, Sao is one of my old favorites but once Alfheim started yeah i can understand where a lot of the hate came from. Aincrad was amazing but couldve been further expanded instead of multiple time skips and some of the filler. GGO was amazing along with both Alicization arcs, havent seen any of the movies though.

The fact that you put an appropriate amount of respect on many of the oldies has my approval (Monster Rancher is a goofy little kid's show to be sure, hack//sign isn't everyone's cup of tea but I adore it, Mysterious Play aka Fuushigi Yugi is a banger shojo classic, and Magic Knight Rayearth - which has one of my favorite plot resolutions of all time both in the manga and anime adaptation - is actually supposed to be getting a remake soon). I especially think it would have been really good for you to get to watch Digimon Adventure, since you really get a whole lot more perspective while watching it when you're older, especially the JP dub (Butter-fly OP will never stop making me emotional) but nostalgia take is fine.

Animes that I liked were finest assasin,aristocrats otherworldly, how to not summon a demon lord, am I the strongest, the 300 slime thing, moonlit fantasy, Iruma kun, kobayashi, tensura and eminence in shadow. The other I knew from the list I just never got to actually watch or they were too ass to continue.

One thing to say. Monster Rancher is not a Digimon bootleg. Both franchises originate in 1997. Digimon got a Oneshot Manga, that got serialized as manga in 1998. Monster Rancher directly released as a PS1 game in 1997. Both anime came out in 1999. As a franchise I'd go with MR is older, or at best both are the same age. But with Digimon, it was a demo to look how it fares, and then it got the franchise treatment a year later.
And Monster Rancher had a really cool feature that I wished others would have used to some degree, too. You could summon your monsters through stone disks ingame. You'd then enter a code and monsters would be summoned. You could get those ingame, or you could just put any CD you had lying around into your psx and it would read out some data from there to summon monsters.
Being able to get a monster through reading out your favorite music album was a sick feature.

So many isekai, yet I'm surprised Aura Battler Dunbine isn't on the list since its the Grandfather of isekai in Japan and made by the creator of Gundam. There's also another isekai called Mashin Hero Wataru, but I only recognize it because of Super Robot Wars X since the SRW games are Mecha crossovers with series like Gundam, Aura Battler Dunbine, Code Geass, Evangelion, Gurren Lagann and even non Mecha series like Cowboy bebop in Super Robot Wars T.
I can't imagine you doing this type video focusing on the Mecha genre 😅😅, but if you do, i recommend Mobile fighter G Gundam, Gunbuster, Cross Ange, Gun X Sword , Getter Robo Armageddon, Gaogaigar, and Space Runaway Ideon.

33:53 I can't honestly blame you for not liking this one since it sounds like you watched pretty far into it, but I personally enjoyed the little theme/narrative of this big bad assassin that never had a chance to form proper relationships slowly making friends (though he thinks to himself that they're tools) and learning to trust in others. They even call it out in a later episode that the girls know he had ulterior motives for saving them (they were talented and obedient) but they choose to follow him anyway because they don't believe he's as bad of a person as he himself thinks he is, and I think that's sweet
38:43 I never watched the full thing, but the whole "why do they kill otherworlders" thing is kind of the main point of the story! It's overkill and the church tries to justify it as being something even the otherworlders themselves can't control so they need to be put down for their own good, but that narrative is broken when one otherworlder's entire power is literally just "can't die". SPOILER ALERT it's also revealed that the blonde assassin girl was originally from the class of a lot of the otherworlder's she's been disposing of and the church simply wiped her memory to have her serve their needs. Though in the end, I still agree, it's a largely shock value based show that doesn't have anything grander to say message wise or character wise
43:37 Leadale is objectively probably not that good, but it always resonated with me for some reason. The plot of this girl that never had the chance to have a normal life now getting to enjoy being in the world she used for escapism for so long is kind of touching, and she's also an interesting main character- she starts out very detached from everyone and everything because of course she would be, it's a game world to her. But events in the story happen and it starts to sink in that the world is real, and she should be taking it more seriously, so she has a nice little development arc. It's also unique because while she wants to live here, there are other otherworlders affected that just want to go home, including one literal 10 year old kid that made an edgy demon avatar and now that's his actual body and he has to live with the fact that he might never see his parents again. It just kind of touches on more uncomfortable stuff I don't see other isekai tackle very much except for maybe Mushoku Tensei

I really liked the premise as it kind of had its cake and ate it too, you could have fun fights and suspenseful plot twists, but at the end of the day it's still a bright and cheery show with no stakes. If you take issue with that it's understandable, but I honestly can get down with that in a slice of life kind of way, and I don't see a lot of other shows doing this kind of thing in general

To me, it's an ultimate rebuttal to the "revenge fantasy" genre that plagues a lot of isekai, where everyone unjustly hates the protagonist, but in this show she never really hates anyone back and instead uses her actions to prove she's not evil like everyone thinks she is, like a rational adult. Previous shows such as Inuyasha (which never ended up on the list for some reason despite being a really influential show at the time that has a fairly unique take on isekais) had isekai as a plot point, but oftentimes it was a straightforward adventure where the characters had to accomplish something to get home, but this was the first where the characters end up just aimlessly living in the new world
1:42:13 Angel Beats is one of my all time favorites as well, but unfortunately it was the swan song for Key visual novel adaptations: Angel Beats was originally meant to be 24 episodes, but corporate meddling cut that number in half and the director (who had worked on all the other famous stuff such as Clannad, Air, etc.) straight up walked out after the series was done. Due to the cut episode count some characters straight up didn't get to have their backstories, and since it's anime original we'll never know what they were. After that Charlotte and then Rewrite were utter garbage, which hurt because they so very obviously had the potential to be great but they were stifled by corporate greed... I think there's a new one coming out soon-ish so I'll have a look at it, but I'm not feeling too optimistic

So after finishing the video. Glad to see Youjo Senki (Saga of Tanya the Evil) at least good. However, if you are a history buff you should 100% watch it. Its fantasy (magic aspect), but the main premise is that its alternate history. The Light Novel author goes extremely indepth of parallel events that happen in the world of youjo senki with a bit of a twist. There's not much isekai out there that could be suited for history buffs or even military buffs, so I'd definitely give youjo senki a watch. Got 12 episodes and a movie so its pretty easy to catch up on. It leans more into WW1 tactics, but there is also recognizable topics of WW2. The world I'd say is more centered around WW1, pretty unique for me.
Ranking Tanya the Evil so low while crap like RE:Zero is top tier is very questionable. Its such a great work, but if you got some education in history its even better (well, maybe there is the problem)
@@ruas4721 eh, Re:Zero is a pretty good isekai with the writing. I also personally believe it ranks higher than youjo senki cause to enjoy it fully you need to have knowledge of history imo. Whilst Re:Zero you don't really need any knowledge for an enjoyable experience besides common sense on feelings & emotions.
However, I do fully believe it should be in a higher tier. No other isekai has copied the route youjo senki took, its pmuch grounded with a few fantasy aspects. Its why it'll remain as one of my favourite animes.

Also them saying that he was a murderer is also not really true in a since death is natural and he was just doing his job in a way.
As soon as I saw the ranking of that show and a few others on this list, I immediately didn't agree with the entire list. When I finished the video, I only agreed with about 20% of what was said. He missed the mark on so many decent isekai over a sensitivity towards certain things.

It's so good that I dropped the novel when they killed his teacher. It broke my heart that I can't continue to read.
I watched it way back and it was something unique. Unlike other isekai, grimgar felt dangerous, even the most basic monsters were dangerous and the character forced to grow and learn from their mistakes.
In addition, the cool thing about it was that people aren't more powerful because of "higher stats" or whatever, but due to combat experience and knowledge in addition to training. The adults are wildly more powerful than the kids, but just way more experienced, and it shows how inexperienced the kids were later on.
The mx and his group are "weak" by isekai standards, but its because of their weakness a lot of the story has stakes and the drama makes sense. They do this dangerous job day in and day out to put food on the table, and its either doing that or starving. I don't want to spoil any of it here, but yeah, that included with the nice art puts it pretty high up.
People who want power fantasy or mcs that don't act like their age or how they normally would (sheltered like most people living in the city as teens in a developed country), wouldn't enjoy the anime.
yeah, first time i watch ( 3 episodes) i got bored and give up.
years later after grown up, come back and watch (all of the episodes) now i undertand and get hooked up so much i read the whole light novel.
i think what makes grimgar not popular is because the "isekai" tag itself, when i see "isekai" i expect adventure, good action, and interaction with the world, something that is not exist and cannot do in realworld.
but grimgar focussing on human interaction, emotion, and the goal is simple, to get live peacefully, not something big, they didn't try to get back to real world, they curious how they got here (isekai) but dealing with daily expenses first.
they fight because that is all they can do to earn money.
most of isekai is some kind of "escape from reality" and grimgar slamming you back to it, with all the problem.
the first mistake of watching grimgar is expecting to watch "isekai anime" you should treat it like a movie.
I just happened to binge TEIS after getting recommended it, not knowing a single thing about it and right after season 1 finished my singular thought was "What the fuck just happened" and I rewatched immediately because it was so trash but fucking beautiful and I didn't know what was happening. Never let bro cook again. For the record i have finished most (around 80%) of the animes on this list watching the ENTIRE anime and know some context from the manga. From the bottom 2 tiers many shows are great but i think the main reason he doesn't understand their quality is because he was actively watching too much and didn't even watch the entire anime. Over all from the bottom 2 tiers i would say alot of them deserve a higher spot even in a tier like amazing or something and thats not even including the manga. A lot of things from the mid tier was also alot better than what he said again because he didn't watch it all or doesn't know the manga or was just watching too much anime which led to stress. From the higher tiers i would agree with most of the ratings but the way he described them is really far from how good it actually is. On the goat tier list should be Reincarnated as a slime, Mushoku Tensei, overlord, moonlight fantasy and a few more. What you believe should be considered the best is just your choice but overall many of the animes in the lower tiers or even in good are way better than what he said and you could see that if your willing to spend some time watching it and understanding what the anime wants and who it's targeted towards because not all isekai are aimed towards one person but rather a large group of individuals with similar interest, and another thing that could've lead to why he marked everything so low might be because he's just not as interested in "isekai" genre but rather another genre
