Way Off-Grid, Cold and Throttling: Watch Maps to Nowhere Ep 4, “Where The Road Ends”

- Remote. Off-grid. Uncomfortable. Far. This place was all that and more - a cold-water desert coast where the issue wasn’t so much whether there’d be swell, but whether there’d be too much swell. That, and staying warm.
Even for diehard surf traveler/journalist Matt Rode, who’s spent the last 20 years getting as far away from other surfers as possible, it was a solid call. For his travel buddies Jordy Smith and Soli Bailey, it was a chance to step away from the everyday, and stretch their skills in some increasingly epic surf zones. In “Where The Road Ends”, the crew drives for days into the desert, camping on remote bluffs under the night sky and waking up to waves they’d hoped for, but never expected. Even for such a well-traveled bunch, it’s a surf camping trip like no other.
*Note: “Maps to Nowhere” is a series about how far surfers will go to ride perfect, empty waves. The spots yu'll see in the series are not new discoveries, but they are perfect, empty, and remain undisclosed, because our belief is that the journey is at least half the fun - and sometimes, over half the travel time. We thank the many local community members who've helped make our adventures a success.

Season 1 was unreal. Love this series
stoked for season 2 of this, i honestly have loved every single episode of this!!
Matt Rode is a wave-finding wizard. Super impressed with this series. Can't wait for more.
Great surfers + great conditions + great camerawork + great editing + great music = great entertainment.
The best series I've seen in a long time.
So sad the first season is over. All episodes were truly amazing. Looking forward for more of this from Matt !

This series fired me up to go surf a novelty wave id looked at for days and I scored!! Great work by the wave hunters
Mission accomplished then!
EXCELLENT
Wow! This series is my favorite thing I have ever watched! It literally gives you all the best feels! Being land locked as of right now, this was exactly what I needed to keep the stoke on! Thanks for taking us along on the journey!
this series was unreal, made me reconnect with the essence of surfing!! Aloha.
We'll see you back for Season 2! Love to hear it.
Reminds me of a trip with some Kiwi friends across Australia - east coast to west coast - back in the 1970's one summer ...... remote locations in the desert & West Australia. Great times with some crazy Uni students seeking adventure, new locations & remote waves. Great video guys .... keep doing this!
The boys got super-coned!!! Gr8 vid! 8^)
just incredible, keep this going!!!! yiuuuuh!!
More of this please! Haven't seen a series this well done since John John's Twelve, so stoked
Totally awesome. Looks like what I am still trying to find. Still searching for cool cobblestone bottom pointbreaks a blissful climate wearing a wetsuit most of the time and UNCROWDED. You lads really scored. Would swap places with you immediately and stay.
That wave is gorgeous ! thanks for this series it's unreal

Exactly.
Super cool series, loved every episode. Surf trips/adventures are awesome. That feeling of being in the middle of nowhere surfing super fun waves with just a core crew of friends, that's the best. Can't wait!
Damn, I can’t wait for the next big swell here. Frothing after watching this. Epic season 1 well done 🤙🏼
Keep ‘em coming our way please 🙏
Can't wait for season 2! Looking forward to Matts email so I can get on the trip as well =)

Oooooooohhhhhh yeeeeeeeeeaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!!!
This one was probably somewhere on the west coast of south Africa or southern Namibia
West is best !!

Hope your consider yourself lucky to do this. I know your grateful
Jordy such a diva. Soli killed it.
North coast of Scotland is one of those places 🤙🏼
Nathan Florence would of paddled out

Weskus🤙
Is this the same spot as where Mason ho and mick fanning went for outer inner space; the search?
Yeah bro!! Frothing
south aus over west i reckon
this is west coast SA
What is the song starting at 9:47? Perfect choice
Great series...very entertaining...unless, of course it exposes your seceret spot...then its an abomination..I cant wait untill next season to see if you can ruin another of my favorite destinations.
After watching this I realized that this is a beach-break, not a cobblestone bottomed point, so I would not want to stay for more than a week. I must keep searching for the perfect surfing lifestyle place to live. Western and South Australia are at the top of my list along with South Africa's cold cobblestone points.
This looks like the area east of Esperance, WA. It would have plenty of waves, very few people and hungry Noahs.
Weskus
Anyone know the song playing when theyre on the slab wave?
first edit is plasma ray by parkview sky and second edit is you take my hand by tinlicker
que beuno
first
Early worm gets the first comment. So give us your review!
Second?
Cool edit but does Surfline have any comment on the criticisms from guys like Nathan Florence and Koa Rothman about showing up to place slike Teahupoo and stealing content from free surfers who are making their living as content creators?
Lol
What are you on about
Camping 🏕️ ✅ this series has been one of the highlights of surf films in the past 20+ years thank you Surfline and O'Neill 👏🏼🎉
Amazing 🥲 can't wait for season 2 already
