OK! i am kinda impressed. I ride a 2019 rebel 500. it weighs 416 lbs. i have reached 85/87 mph, i didn't want to go any faster. My rebel is fun, fast enough for city, highway riding. i could ride an air cooled 900lb. Harley that does 120 mph or faster, but why? at 69 years old, i am having a blast!! the 500 is a great middle weight cruiser, inexpensive, good looking motorcycle.
@@misterravenswood9311 not knowing how old you are, the Rebel 500 is a great bike for cruising back roads. if you want to ride at 100 mph or more the Rebel is not the bike. i am 69 and love mine. It's a Honda, that means more ride time, less repair, tighten, and worry.
I love the different speed situations. Everyone does 0-60, but the highway entry/merge and passing slower traffic was great. I'd like to see reviews do these regularly. It shows real world applications of the bike. I've always wanted a triumph scrambler 1200 but the more i see your vids, that rebel 1100 closes the gap on being the next bike i buy. Keep up the good work!

I went from a Rebel 500 to a Bonneville T120. Get the Scrambler. The modern classics from Triumph are some of the best bikes on the market. Beautiful with tons of character. And the 1200 has great performance.

You’re gonna love it man. Burch was my inspiration to go with the Rebel platform as well for my first bike. Went for the 1100 DCT personally. Arguably a bit much for a beginner bike, but I spent the first few weeks in rain mode, which I found extremely manageable, assuming you’re responsible and ride within your comfort zone. They’re very fast for what they are, and can get you in trouble quick, but I found it engine brakes so hard it’s as easy as backing off the throttle if you start to come into a curve too hot. Enjoy the bike and stay safe. They’re really not lying about riding like you’re invisible. It’s almost a daily occurrence that a vehicle will pull out in front of you and ride to close for comfort/safety. I appreciate the extra power for putting space between me and increasingly faster basic-level passenger cars/trucks.
@@blakew5672 yup...this advice all day long. my first bike was a CBR 600 F4i. Just riding home from the dealership was almost taken out by a ' bubba ' truck who was so jacked up he never seen me in the lane. seen the F-250 logo when I looked over (cause perifial vision even in a helmet is key) getting closer to my head. down shift, hit the throttle and squirted out from under him. seen him wobblin all over the road from the corrective steering he did when he realized (too late) I was there. People don't look out for you, you have to watch out for people...never take anything for granted when your on two's. Keep safe, and enjoy the ride.
I have a 23 Rebel 500 SE and 24 NX500. I'm only 5'10 180lbs. The 500 is just fine for me. I'm not trying to go 100mph every day. Both put a smile on my face
Yea I was surprised by the 300 and 500 especially! It’s surprising how much they really can wind out once you know where redline is. I’ve never really rung them out like that before 🤘🏻
@ I only did one or two 1/4 mile runs and that 12 sec run was with a crappy 4.6 0-60. Low 11’s, maaaybe even high 10’s, wouldn’t be a stretch with more practice and a better rider lol

I found that the motorcycle acceleration depending greatly on the riders size and weight as well, even more than their four-wheel companion. Most motorcycle tester are like your size, not over tall or overweight. For a rider that's 6'2" or higher, or weight 300+ lbs, which is pretty normal what you see in daily life among people who ride the cruisers, the engine torque and displacement do play a big part in that

I've taken it to full speed for a few seconds at a time (don't want to lose my licence but wanted to see how fast I could go) and my speeds were consistent with yours. Now after two and a half years I'm thinking of upgrading to the 1100 but need to go test ride. Apparently it's quite a different ride. Love your content! Keep it coming

Oh yea you’ll be good! Check out my last video before this. The “dart board ride”. I took my SCL500 on a day trip where I was doing 80 on the highway most of the way. A windscreen would definitely be a big help though lol
Really cool experiment. This made me love my 500 even more. It's such a great middle weight all rounder. 1100 is such also an awesome bike but I'm not sure if i need the extra power.
That 500 engine is quite impressive. But I really like the look of the 1100, but It's too small for me, at 6'8"... And that is a petty. I'd love to be able to have and ride one of those. They look like so múch fun in the twisties.
I mean, it sucks if you have to do this...but have you researched the peg extenders ? turn it into a more classic v-twin style riding position. ( i mean to see if it would work with your height an all )
I'm not too interested in any of these bikes with the exception of the 2025 1100 BUT this really was an exceptional upload, really well done , funny and informative!
Can confirm. Can do a faster 1/4 mile. I attended drag races earlier this year and did an 11.1 1/4mile. With a better launch I can probably get sub 11. That’ll be the target next year
I'd like to see a side by side test of the 1100 standart vs 1100 DCT. I think the DCT shifts much faster, it just "blips" the rpm, doesn't back off like manual shifting, pull in the clutch as you back off the power, shift and then release the clutch and power on. With the DCT, just keep the throttle wide open and let the computer slam the gears during the "blip"". Also with the DCT, you don't get the bouncing of the front end like shown in the video. It seems like the power is always on as is the attitude of the front end. The DCT has a seemingly constant pull.
I had a 24 Rebel 300 and the vibrations from the engine through the handle bars was so horrible I traded it for a new 23 model of the Kawasaki Z650rs , I liked the Honda but I love the Kawasaki . The Rebel also chugged a lot at low speed which was just annoying . Never buy a bike without test driving it first, expensive lesson there
I got back into riding after years of not owning a bike and went with the Rebel 500. I loved it and found it handled most things well. I quickly wanted more and moved up to the Rebel 1100 and have no regrets. If you do alot of highway riding and can afford the Rebel 1100 I would recommend you go with it. You will realize quickly that the 500 can handle it, but it feels like you are pushing the bike very hard to do it. If you plan on any long distance trips the 1100 will be so much nicer.
Love the blast on the haters! even though I don't own a rebel, Many people have asked my opinion on a grreat starter bike. if they are short are are only planning on short/mid range rides, then the Rebel 1100 all day. the DCT version if they don't know manual. Great entry level that they won't quickly outgrow.

People hate on the 180° crank parallel twin engines from any manufacturer I don't understand why they're great engines with great torque & plenty fast... Also the right price 💪💯👍🏍️💨

Bought am 1100 DCT T couple years ago. Like a "mini" bagger. It wasn't that bad. Traded it for a Harley Street Glide HUGE difference in weight, but even more difference in power, handling and comfort 1100 was $10k with 400mi on it HD was $12k with 265mi on it Save up your money and just get a full size bike You won't regret it!!

The UK trip didn’t end up have any riding involved. I wanted to try riding while we were there, but as soon as we got there we realized it was more important to focus on much needed family time. Maybe next time though!
I can’t lie I’m a bit interested in what the Rebel 1100 would do in rain mode as compared to the 500’s stock numbers are. I’m a guy that doesn’t have to be cool so I’m 100% going dtc but as my first bike it would be in rain mode most of the time.
Enjoyable video. 88 mph is not bad for a 300 and is supposedly the correct speed for time travel. What app did this individual who tested the bikes on a closed course in Mexico use to measure the times and speeds?
Thanks for posting real data. I am an engineer. BTW, if you just buy the basic GSX-R750, like I did you don't have to worry about traction control, ABS, and all that other electronic stuff, plus it always turns on in A mode.
I would never ever criticized you, i got a rebell bwcause of you, Honda must love you, lol😂😅. I ❤ my 1100 stuck as i am to old to do what you do. I tested both clurch and dct, and i drove of the dealer with a DCT green Rebell. I never ever drive it on sport. I am so happy love the comparison, i drove a 300 for a while as a friend atored it on my garage and he let me uset it, it rode super nice just less hum.
Very cool review especially for all those Honda haters & or rebel haters that should get off their hyper bikes & maybe get a vmax with an added turbo & a 2 stage nitrous kit oh ya it'd be too much for them so they'll say it's too heavy bla bla bla stop the hate enjoy the ride love life

Agreed 100%! They’re all great bikes in their own rights, it’s just crazy that some people still can’t wrap their heads around the 1100 truly being that much more powerful 😅 But on the same hand, I think the 500 is still an “easier” ride overall!
@ the 500 vs 1100 debate is a fun yet silly debate. Truly there will only ever be the 1100 sitting comfortably at the top. Especially in terms of performance. I actually go over some of this in my next video (this upcoming Saturday). Side note… you do show the 500 is faster top speed without that fix. ;) jokes aside from my limited experience on the 1100, anyone that’s not had the chance to throw a leg over one, truly needs to. That 1100 is a fantastic motorcycle!

Yea no need to change tires for winter, especially if they’re that new and you’re sticking to normal pavement. Just keep in mind they’ll take much longer to get warmed up and will have less grip until then. And keep an eye on tire pressures too! Cold weather = less tire pressure.
A little bit of an off topic, but I've been thinking of buying an 1100 next year and looks like you like them a lot. Have you had any long multi-day trips on an 1100? Is it a good bike for trips exceeding 1000 miles?
Oh yea it’ll handle long trips no problem! I’m not much of a long trip kind of rider, but this summer I did an 850 mile weekend and the bike handled it great. Set it in cruise control at 85 and you’re golden! There’s a lady named Marsha who’s in the Rebel 1100 World Facebook group who’s gone cross country and back on her 1100 and has I think over 30,000 or 40,000 miles already. The biggest thing will just be setting it up for comfort with things like risers and a windscreen.
I rode my 1100 across Europe, visiting Germany, France, Spain, Portugal and Switzerland last spring. We're talking about 5000 miles including daytrips and detours. No real issues to speak of. Cruise control was acting up once or twice, but worked most of the time when needed. As posted before, I would highly recommend getting a reasonably sized windscreen though. It really makes a big difference.
Thanks a lot for your replies, feel much more comfortable with the purchase now! Definitely planning on changing the seat and adding a full size windscreen. Have too look into risers, haven't thought about it but I'm also on the shorter side at 5'7. May we meet on the road some day ;)
As a new rider with a Rebel 500, what would be your shift point recommendations? I seem to be shifting into the next gear much sooner than your video suggests. With no tach, it makes it difficult for a noob lol
The guy in the video is shifting at such a high rpm because he is trying to get as much power out of the engine as possible. Typically, not always, engines make the most power near redline. With that said, please do not go down the road in 2nd gear at 7000 rpm because you're not at the shift point shown in this video. If you need power, let it rev out. If you don't need more power, go ahead and shift. As long as you're not lugging the engine you're good.
Result more or less as expected although top speed of 500 is more than I'd expect. These bikes are surprisingly fast for what they are. I think what people really want to see is your cl500 Vs your rebel 500. Then with the one tooth different rear sprockets changed over raising cl500 gearing and lowering rebel gearing.

You talked me into the Rebel 1100. Do I buy a 2024 now (since they are available at several dealerships around me) or wait for the new and improved 2025, with higher compression ratio with more horsepower and torque, more comfortable seat and riding position, different dash, etc. (I think many of the things they did on the 2025 are things you needed to do with aftermarket items like the power comander, etc.) I may wait and take my chances I can get one when they are released. Thanks for all your content on the Rebels and other Hondas (and even the other brand bikes too.)
The 2025 1100 unfortunately doesn’t have any change in the engine/power. The Africa Twin got a change, so I was hopeful the Rebel would, but that didn’t end up being the case. Here’s a list of all the changes- -New TFT display w/ RoadSync -Updated hand controls -USB port at bars instead of underseat -New bars 12mm higher, 28mm closer -Foot controls 50mm forward -Seat cushion 10mm thicker -New colors & DCT SE option So it’s really just a question of whether any of that is worth it to you. All the ergonomic changes can easily be changed with aftermarket, and most people end up doing that regardless. The biggest factor is the new screen and hand controls. It’s the same screen as the new CB(R)650 and I loved the screen on those, but think it’s a bit odd looking on the Rebel. A big square screen just doesn’t scream “cruiser” to me. But the hand controls, if they’re as similar to the CB(R)650 as they look, are WAY better and more intuitive than the current Rebel’s controls! So I’m excited for that. Personally I’d say to hold off just because the 2025’s will hit dealers in December, and that short wait is worth being able to compare side by side if nothing else. Just my two cents!
@@LifeOfBurch Thanks for the advice. The ergonomics and the claim of lower torque are a couple of the things that may encourage me to wait. (I'd say the more comfortable seat too, but I will probably change it to one like you have in order to ride "two up" comfortably.)
The newer model appealed to me too, but you can get such great deals on the 22-24 models it’s hard to pay the new off the lot premium. I do like the improved bar ergos, which could very easily still be made better with a commonly available 1” up and back riser block (short gang here). Only thing I REALLY wished they added was the new E-clutch. Having the option to use it manual or (basically) semi-automatic would be nice. I went DCT so I could learn fundamentals without having to adapt to a clutch, but now I find myself itching for the clutch. Low speed maneuvers are kinda tricky when you don’t have a friction zone to use and it’s all throttle.
@@blakew5672 What type of deals were you getting. I haven't seen any advertised deals at either dealership, just MSRP with the normal regular fees on top of that. (Did you have to negotiate in order to get the deal?) (I just found one of the dealers was marking down only the blue colored DCT bike to $8999 but the others stayed at MSRP)
@@pcthayer I’m more referring to the used market. Plenty of reasonably priced, low mileage Rebels. Facebook marketplace is chock full of them. Bought my 22 DCT for 6k, and it had numerous extras on it. Corbin two-up seat (along with the factory passenger seat and pegs), burly brand sissy bar, shorty exhaust, all the stock parts, and the guy threw in his jackets and helmet. A Scorpion exo mesh jacket, leather jacket, and HJC helmet (obviously not using a used helmet, but it was modular, so it was nice for comparison). Easily $1400+ of gear The bike was originally 10.5k so I got what I consider a very nice deal on a well maintained bike with only 7k miles. It’s hard to justify spending MSRP on a first bike given the high likelihood you’ll drop or damage it in the learning process.
My bet is Rebel 500 wins top speed. 1:04 , damn, my bet prolly just lost. 1:11-1:15 Yeah, betcha need all those gizmos to beat the Rebel 500! :p 🤣 1:20 >.> ..

Gotta ease into it or the front wheel comes up and power cuts. All the pulls where I got straight into it heavy were actually much slower because of that.

It’s kinda crazy what bikes can do. Even my adv160 does 65-70 consistently.
I honestly figured the 1100 would turn out a sub 12 quarter mile, but the acceleration is on par with the seat of the pants feel I’ve experienced

I have a rebel 300 at 160 lbs and honestly it works out beautifully for me but the highways around me top out around 55 so everyone runs 60

Oh yea you’ll be good! Check out my last video before this. The “dart board ride”. I took my SCL500 on a day trip where I was doing 80 on the highway most of the way. A windscreen would definitely be a big help though lol

That 500 engine is quite impressive. But I really like the look of the 1100, but It's too small for me, at 6'8"... And that is a petty. I'd love to be able to have and ride one of those. They look like so múch fun in the twisties.
I mean, it sucks if you have to do this...but have you researched the peg extenders ? turn it into a more classic v-twin style riding position. ( i mean to see if it would work with your height an all )

Can confirm. Can do a faster 1/4 mile. I attended drag races earlier this year and did an 11.1 1/4mile. With a better launch I can probably get sub 11. That’ll be the target next year
I'd like to see a side by side test of the 1100 standart vs 1100 DCT. I think the DCT shifts much faster, it just "blips" the rpm, doesn't back off like manual shifting, pull in the clutch as you back off the power, shift and then release the clutch and power on. With the DCT, just keep the throttle wide open and let the computer slam the gears during the "blip"". Also with the DCT, you don't get the bouncing of the front end like shown in the video. It seems like the power is always on as is the attitude of the front end. The DCT has a seemingly constant pull.
Yeah I can confirm my 1100 DCT pulls like a beast, and makes me appear more skilled than I am.
I had a 24 Rebel 300 and the vibrations from the engine through the handle bars was so horrible I traded it for a new 23 model of the Kawasaki Z650rs , I liked the Honda but I love the Kawasaki . The Rebel also chugged a lot at low speed which was just annoying . Never buy a bike without test driving it first, expensive lesson there
I got back into riding after years of not owning a bike and went with the Rebel 500. I loved it and found it handled most things well. I quickly wanted more and moved up to the Rebel 1100 and have no regrets. If you do alot of highway riding and can afford the Rebel 1100 I would recommend you go with it. You will realize quickly that the 500 can handle it, but it feels like you are pushing the bike very hard to do it. If you plan on any long distance trips the 1100 will be so much nicer.
Love the blast on the haters! even though I don't own a rebel, Many people have asked my opinion on a grreat starter bike. if they are short are are only planning on short/mid range rides, then the Rebel 1100 all day. the DCT version if they don't know manual. Great entry level that they won't quickly outgrow.

Bought am 1100 DCT T couple years ago. Like a "mini" bagger.
It wasn't that bad.
Traded it for a Harley Street Glide
HUGE difference in weight, but even more difference in power, handling and comfort
1100 was $10k with 400mi on it
HD was $12k with 265mi on it
Save up your money and just get a full size bike
You won't regret it!!

The UK trip didn’t end up have any riding involved. I wanted to try riding while we were there, but as soon as we got there we realized it was more important to focus on much needed family time. Maybe next time though!

I can’t lie I’m a bit interested in what the Rebel 1100 would do in rain mode as compared to the 500’s stock numbers are. I’m a guy that doesn’t have to be cool so I’m 100% going dtc but as my first bike it would be in rain mode most of the time.

Thanks for posting real data. I am an engineer. BTW, if you just buy the basic GSX-R750, like I did you don't have to worry about traction control, ABS, and all that other electronic stuff, plus it always turns on in A mode.
Honda’s 500cc parallel twin is impressive. It’s surprising how good it is, though you’ll get more out of it In the cb500 models.

I would never ever criticized you, i got a rebell bwcause of you, Honda must love you, lol😂😅. I ❤ my 1100 stuck as i am to old to do what you do. I tested both clurch and dct, and i drove of the dealer with a DCT green Rebell. I never ever drive it on sport. I am so happy love the comparison, i drove a 300 for a while as a friend atored it on my garage and he let me uset it, it rode super nice just less hum.

Agreed 100%! They’re all great bikes in their own rights, it’s just crazy that some people still can’t wrap their heads around the 1100 truly being that much more powerful 😅 But on the same hand, I think the 500 is still an “easier” ride overall!
@ the 500 vs 1100 debate is a fun yet silly debate. Truly there will only ever be the 1100 sitting comfortably at the top. Especially in terms of performance. I actually go over some of this in my next video (this upcoming Saturday).
Side note… you do show the 500 is faster top speed without that fix. ;) jokes aside from my limited experience on the 1100, anyone that’s not had the chance to throw a leg over one, truly needs to. That 1100 is a fantastic motorcycle!

Burch, you need to ask NBT why they didn’t upgrade their padding from CE LVL1 to LVL2 when going AA material.
They’ll have level 2 pad upgrades soon. I think they said end of year, but don’t quote me on that. Single layer AAA options are coming soon too 😳
You can use taller gears, +1t front and -3t rear is much better on Honda small bikes. (300 & 500cc).

Yea no need to change tires for winter, especially if they’re that new and you’re sticking to normal pavement. Just keep in mind they’ll take much longer to get warmed up and will have less grip until then. And keep an eye on tire pressures too! Cold weather = less tire pressure.

A little bit of an off topic, but I've been thinking of buying an 1100 next year and looks like you like them a lot. Have you had any long multi-day trips on an 1100? Is it a good bike for trips exceeding 1000 miles?
Oh yea it’ll handle long trips no problem! I’m not much of a long trip kind of rider, but this summer I did an 850 mile weekend and the bike handled it great. Set it in cruise control at 85 and you’re golden! There’s a lady named Marsha who’s in the Rebel 1100 World Facebook group who’s gone cross country and back on her 1100 and has I think over 30,000 or 40,000 miles already. The biggest thing will just be setting it up for comfort with things like risers and a windscreen.
I rode my 1100 across Europe, visiting Germany, France, Spain, Portugal and Switzerland last spring. We're talking about 5000 miles including daytrips and detours. No real issues to speak of. Cruise control was acting up once or twice, but worked most of the time when needed.
As posted before, I would highly recommend getting a reasonably sized windscreen though. It really makes a big difference.

As a new rider with a Rebel 500, what would be your shift point recommendations? I seem to be shifting into the next gear much sooner than your video suggests. With no tach, it makes it difficult for a noob lol
The guy in the video is shifting at such a high rpm because he is trying to get as much power out of the engine as possible. Typically, not always, engines make the most power near redline. With that said, please do not go down the road in 2nd gear at 7000 rpm because you're not at the shift point shown in this video. If you need power, let it rev out. If you don't need more power, go ahead and shift. As long as you're not lugging the engine you're good.
Result more or less as expected although top speed of 500 is more than I'd expect. These bikes are surprisingly fast for what they are.
I think what people really want to see is your cl500 Vs your rebel 500. Then with the one tooth different rear sprockets changed over raising cl500 gearing and lowering rebel gearing.

You talked me into the Rebel 1100. Do I buy a 2024 now (since they are available at several dealerships around me) or wait for the new and improved 2025, with higher compression ratio with more horsepower and torque, more comfortable seat and riding position, different dash, etc. (I think many of the things they did on the 2025 are things you needed to do with aftermarket items like the power comander, etc.) I may wait and take my chances I can get one when they are released. Thanks for all your content on the Rebels and other Hondas (and even the other brand bikes too.)
The 2025 1100 unfortunately doesn’t have any change in the engine/power. The Africa Twin got a change, so I was hopeful the Rebel would, but that didn’t end up being the case. Here’s a list of all the changes-
-New TFT display w/ RoadSync
-Updated hand controls
-USB port at bars instead of underseat
-New bars 12mm higher, 28mm closer
-Foot controls 50mm forward
-Seat cushion 10mm thicker
-New colors & DCT SE option
So it’s really just a question of whether any of that is worth it to you. All the ergonomic changes can easily be changed with aftermarket, and most people end up doing that regardless. The biggest factor is the new screen and hand controls. It’s the same screen as the new CB(R)650 and I loved the screen on those, but think it’s a bit odd looking on the Rebel. A big square screen just doesn’t scream “cruiser” to me. But the hand controls, if they’re as similar to the CB(R)650 as they look, are WAY better and more intuitive than the current Rebel’s controls! So I’m excited for that.
Personally I’d say to hold off just because the 2025’s will hit dealers in December, and that short wait is worth being able to compare side by side if nothing else. Just my two cents!
@@LifeOfBurch Thanks for the advice. The ergonomics and the claim of lower torque are a couple of the things that may encourage me to wait. (I'd say the more comfortable seat too, but I will probably change it to one like you have in order to ride "two up" comfortably.)
The newer model appealed to me too, but you can get such great deals on the 22-24 models it’s hard to pay the new off the lot premium. I do like the improved bar ergos, which could very easily still be made better with a commonly available 1” up and back riser block (short gang here).
Only thing I REALLY wished they added was the new E-clutch. Having the option to use it manual or (basically) semi-automatic would be nice. I went DCT so I could learn fundamentals without having to adapt to a clutch, but now I find myself itching for the clutch. Low speed maneuvers are kinda tricky when you don’t have a friction zone to use and it’s all throttle.
@@blakew5672 What type of deals were you getting. I haven't seen any advertised deals at either dealership, just MSRP with the normal regular fees on top of that. (Did you have to negotiate in order to get the deal?) (I just found one of the dealers was marking down only the blue colored DCT bike to $8999 but the others stayed at MSRP)

I’m more referring to the used market. Plenty of reasonably priced, low mileage Rebels. Facebook marketplace is chock full of them.
Bought my 22 DCT for 6k, and it had numerous extras on it. Corbin two-up seat (along with the factory passenger seat and pegs), burly brand sissy bar, shorty exhaust, all the stock parts, and the guy threw in his jackets and helmet. A Scorpion exo mesh jacket, leather jacket, and HJC helmet (obviously not using a used helmet, but it was modular, so it was nice for comparison). Easily $1400+ of gear
The bike was originally 10.5k so I got what I consider a very nice deal on a well maintained bike with only 7k miles. It’s hard to justify spending MSRP on a first bike given the high likelihood you’ll drop or damage it in the learning process.
Would like to see the stock factory numbers.

0 to 60 on the rebel 1100 was more of a rolling start but still not bad
Gotta ease into it or the front wheel comes up and power cuts. All the pulls where I got straight into it heavy were actually much slower because of that.
