    Dr. Pate.
In the past you have helped me identify some interesting dolls. A Goyo and a unusual large "store display" doll holding a tea tray, which you said might be an iki ningyo. I have a bunch of your books and use them for reference all the time.
I just got at a flea market, an 18" early showa ichimatsu, probably just tourist grade, but gofun, human hair in like new condition which is a bit rare for $25. and prompted me to view this video.
However, what prompts this comment is that I never can find much about my favorite ichimatsu maker, Yamamoto Fukumatsu of the realistic school (?)
I saw a few of his dolls in Japan. One at the Yokohama Doll Museum and in a store in the Ginza, "Angel Dolls" in the middle 2000s.
His dolls are breathtaking, to me, well beyond the "normal" ichimatsu.
I was wondering if you knew where I could find out more about him, and why he isn't well known.
    Thanks

I have a Ichimatsu doll, she’s similar like the doll at for you at your left when you’re telling us. Problem is I call her Mieko it was the first thing when I saw her in the store at a high discount so my husband gave her to me as my birthday present. She’s in desperate need of repairs her bustle on her belly is falling apart. I didn’t find a case for her yet but the clothes seems out of paper? I’m on the lookout for fabrics that are worthy and good to make her clothes out of. I’m living in Belgium and I don’t get things often that can replace it. Her attributes I can re-use. Her kimono had a little rip but was hooded in place with a needle. What can I do? I don’t want Mieko to stay that way. She has a fan and like a wallet with a tassel in her kimono, her hair is loose, her head, hands and feet are porselein like but the rest is wire and a body of fabric and something straw like.

Since I see an awful lot of gomi online, you've actually got me curious what's the deal behind them? Because even those would have taken more effort than most people would be willing to put in with mixing and applying the gofun, putting together the clothes, applying the hair, etc...Were they made by apprentices just starting out? Amateurs who couldn't afford to buy one for their child? Some of them look like the base of their heads are made of a potato or something, they're just so, mm...bumpy? lumpy? Nandaka kawaisou. I would think most amateurs would gravitate more towards something like a kimekomi kit though.

Really amazing to find such meticulous information. Thank you so much for your talks and history lessons. As a doll maker, I’ve always been interested in ichimatsu dolls, but couldn’t find proper info on history in a language I can understand (english is not my mother language, and by the way that also reminds me to thank you for such clarity when talking, you’re very easy to understand for a non english speaker!). Please keep up with these talks, they are fascinating! Meanwhile, I’ll have to check those books! :)

I’m so upset. I was at a doll show years ago and saw a huge pair of Barbie dolls. True museum dolls, and I passed on them because they were 1500 dollars at that time. I couldn’t afford them, and I have been kicking myself since then. I still think about them. They were big twins. 🥲🥲🥲
