  • Start-to-finish time lapse of driving Sherman Pass Road in California.
    The trip begins at 9 Mile Canyon Road off Highway 395 in Inyokern/Pearsonville, CA and ends in Sequoia National Forest near the Kern River in Kernville, CA. 116 miles one way, around 4.5 hours.
    This was a second attempt at completing successfully, in September. First (and failed) attempt was in February, but the roads were snowed out at elevation. Do not attempt during winter. Roads are icy and there are dangerous situations at every turn in the road.

    Thanks for posting this. This route has been recommended to me for a great motorcycle ride. I did not know it was paved. This will help me in my trip planning.

      Aww, that's great. Just FYI: DO NOT ATTEMPT during times where there is snow up there because it's impassable. Our first try (during February one year) did not work out. That video was taken during October and it was great.

    Thanks for posting this. I have been eyeballing this on the map for a few years but Google Maps shows it closed and I wasn't sure it was paved. I would like to include this as part of a multi-park trip though Yosemite, out to 395, down to 9 Mile Canyon over to Kings and Sequoia. That would be a cool way to spend a few days on the road and, thanks to your video, I now know it's doable!

      Very doable! Just be mindful of winter weather. We tried in Feb one year and it was closed at higher elevation. In Oct we got right through. Great ride. :-)

      make sure you visit trail of the 100 Giants off to the right at the end of the vid its a bit of a drive up, since its impossible to find road closed info just call the ranger station at the trail of the 100 Giants,if they pick up the road is open !

    Great video, thanks. I was thinking of giving this a shot in end of April but late season storms in the Eastern Sierras changed my plans, now shooting for August. I can't wait!

    Amazing video Mark, thanks for sharing. My wife and I love these "road less travelled" adventures, we always do some camping and hiking. Just to confirm, is this Forest Road J41 out of Linney (off 395)? Perhaps that is Hwy name of 9 Mi Canyon Road? Did you drive thru Kennedy Meadows at the PCH crossing? I'm thinking of doing a section hike from Kennedy Meadows up to appx Whitney Portal crossing. A question: What software you did you use to compress all of this into a 12 minute video for YT posting?

    • @m_a_r_k_____._
      @m_a_r_k_____._  2 роки тому +1

      Correct, it is 9 Mile Canyon Rd heading west from Linnie. On the Kern River side (end of route) it's listed as Forest Rte 22S05. And the road went through Kennedy Meadows area. The video was made using GoPro Hero 7 Black time lapse mode, so no compression via post editing software.
      Enjoy that hike, I'd love to do that. Whitney Portal is gorgeous. Let me know how it goes. 😎

    Hi, is it so narrow? Scary? dangerous? (For example, Mt Washington in NH is VERY scary). I really want to do that.

      I haven't done Mt. Washington, so I can't contrast/compare. But Sherman Pass didn't seem narrow or scary. As far as danger: there aren't guardrails along the route, so safety first! Slow speed and use engine braking on downhills.
