      Unfortunately with dancing professionally it's a bit different. If you don't have the look or you don't have the stylistic ability which all can only come naturally, no matter how much you practice, your body will never move or look the way you need it to. You can have all the steps and moves down but if you can't make it look good, you won't get booked. It seems unfair and it is but that's just how it works

    • @ThatssoRavenDeNai
      @ThatssoRavenDeNai 7 років тому +20

      But you should always keep trying no what happened and have faith

      I believe that to be true as well to a degree. To be a successful dancer you need to be self-critical and know your weaknesses, if you know that you have the skills to learn choreo but you struggle to make it your own it helps to work on it, but may not necessarily get you anywhere which is what happens most of the time.

    To anyone watching this who loves dance and now feels discouraged cos of the shit she said, don't worry. Being a famous or even well known dancer is not about knowing every dance style there is or being society's idea of "attractive". Dancing is something that takes people from all walks of life all over the world and unites them. People that learned how to dance in their garages are now stars, so don't take this little bimbo's opinion on what you need to make it. If you have the passion, keep going and work hard. Don't let someone discourage you from what you love.

    • @Dancingqueen2700
      @Dancingqueen2700 8 років тому +8

      I agree. There are many famous dancers who only know ballet or hip-hop or jazz. It's more attractive (to whoever is casting you) if you know more than one genre of dance but if you're excellent in your genre, you can make it. OT: but wow! Never thought I'd find a Bora fan here.

I respect that. Imo its BS how its presented & *so* many ppl takin her *criticism* as "advice" for dancers in gen. U wanna make it in LA? Thats how superficial it is. Shame, but its the Mecca. For people who think like you, the world is full of mediocre people without talent who live unhappy because they never reach their optimum level in what they do. You have to be intelligent and self-critical enough to realize for yourself that although you are passionate about something, it is best that you do it as a hobby and you dedicate yourself to something in which you really are excellent, when you do not have that intelligence and self-criticism you need someone who Help you to see your reality, without passion and with objectivity.

      I don't know if you're a dancer but many people do dance just for fun. Not to be a professional.

      No not really believe it or not a lot of people laugh at you for saying you want to take a career in dancing (especially if your a guy) fortunately its not as much as it used to be. Its just that when you tell people you want to make a career out of dancing or entertainment in general they laugh at you because they think that's not gonna put food on the table when actuality it dose its just unfortunate that you need to have a certain "look" in order to be accepted among certain people. But you gotta keep pushing your self and use your haters as motivation you cant let them bring you down.

    She's just being realistic and giving it to us straight about what it takes to be a professional dancer. She's not sugar coating it because she doesn't want to give people false hope. All pro dancers have to endure a lot because dance these days isn't just about choreo, it's about looks, fitness and acting skills. The pressure is real, as rough as she sounds she is just laying down the facts so we know exactly the work it takes to become a pro. But if you feel this path is your calling then by all means go for it, as an individual, you really shouldn't let other people's opinions deter you from being who you want to be.

    I'm just going to leave this here because I know no one is going to read this but I really want to learn to dance and become a dancer
    But I know I won't be able to because I don't have any outlet to go and take dance because my parents are the kind of people who are like "go get a real job" and all of this stuff and I just want to move and go do makeup and dance and be myself it just hurts so much sometimes to see people being able to be and do whatever they want and I'm here studying my ass off during thanksgiving break for the AP test finals ;-;

    • @krisbelyolivares
      @krisbelyolivares 7 років тому +5

      jimine Same problem with me but you have to be positive. Your parents probably say to get an actual job because becoming a professional dancer is very difficult, but it's what you put into it that counts. Go on UA-cam and learn dances... if there aren't any tutorials, put the video in slow motion until you get every move down. It's up to you to make your dream become a goal. Yes there will be negative people, but you can't let them make you doubt yourself. Be the best that you can be. Also an education is always good to have, no matter what you do in life the education that you have will guide you. Remember to never give up on you and Good Luck.

      @@hellowhitepeople I think the person. who started the thread understood what she was saying just fine just because she didn't agree with what was said that doesn't mean that what Tricia said was not understood. it's vain, it may be reality but that doesn't make it right and people that feed into that way of thinking and that process are part of the problem.

    So now you have to know how to do hair and makeup in order to be a dancer? 😒

    • @GGee_734
      @GGee_734 7 років тому +18

      Well... your own hair and makeup. The way it makes total sense to me is... imagine you booked a huge tour. The lead performer will have makeup and hair but that may not be priority for you. You could be one dancer out of a hundred - hiring makeup artists is easily a HUGE expense at that point. Also it's just smarter since you're basically marketing yourself and putting yourself out there. You don't want to give a makeup artist or hair stylist who may not have foundation in you skin tone or could damage your hair that much power.

    • @killlamas57
      @killlamas57 7 років тому +12

      Bri Obviously. They won't hire someone who looks raggedy. Stars want attractive people. Beyonce is not always going to want to pay for the dancer to get styled. If you can do yourself after a while that's a plus for them.

      +Bri No. But in gen. it'd be a valuable skill & not jus 2 U, but to others. To be a leet *touring* industry dancer, not bein able 2 do ur own would hurt u esp. financially like mentioned. Heres how it is: U wanna dance w/ Beyonce?! Ok, but ur NOT Beyonce, ur tha b!$h *behind* her & U even DARE 2 rep her?! Gurl U betta be F L A W L E $ $ cuz thers 31MIL baad b!$hes rdy 2 take ur place 24/7/365.
      Its 1 reason I say Dancers R Athletes. Beyonces like tha NBA, Only a fraction of ppl will EVER be that lucky, but we ALL dream. They do it cuz they LOVE it & 2 inspire. The day its jus 4 tha $$$ is the day they should quit. Great point bout Willdabeast +ashante190. Not jus cuz he was turned down so much for bein dangerous lookin dreadlocked filthmachine, but cuz it *didnt stop him*. Theres all kinds of lanes Bri & the 1 he was lookin for didnt evn exist, so he created it. If u wanna dance +Bri DANCE. Who knows where ur journey'll take U. Yea some things help & some things dont, but dont EVER believe u *cant*. #206love

    You know who I love, Fatima Robinson! She would never turn someone away from their passion! She has the heart and soul and is a great influence to the dancing nation :) She also did not need UA-cam to make herself famous or her name known. Also none of her dance moves are the same. She has worked with every artist you can think of Will Smith, Biggie Smalls, Dr. Dre, Bobby Brown, Aaliyah, Backstreet boys, Black Eyed Peas, Mary J Blige, Micheal Jackson, Fergie, Brandy, Busta Rhymes, Gwen Stefani and that is just naming a few! She choreographed The Wiz, Save the last dance, Dream Girls and the Black Eyed Peas half time show. This is just a small portion of all she has done! This awesome lady has won awards for the films and videos she choreographed. She is the most influential person, choreographer in this world! In her interviews she will tell you it is tough but never give up, you live and learn, but she will never give you direction to move away from your passion!

    If everyone would stop trippen about what she said and taking its damn personal you could prob learn something from her. Shes dropping game on you .. shes not saying you shouldnt dance at all . Shes giving specific advice for anyone who wants to be a professional dancer. If your smart youd listen to what she said and make it happen. Get your look together.. work on your skill and get your fundamentals down so that when you're presented the opportunity to be in an advanced level class, you have the background to actually succeed. The truth is the LA dance scene is not for the weak hearted. It's a huge beast and industry . She and other professionals in her position are preparing you for crucial moments in the performance and entertainment career within the industry. If you cant handle a class , good luck with going on tour and dancing in stage in front of thousands of fans. Shes not being discouraging. Shes being honest. if you feel discouraged, work harder.

    • @chigasaki06
      @chigasaki06 7 років тому +9

      What did she say that was offensive...the reality that some people just can't dance, so she told them the truth? There's only so much a person can learn. To be a great dancer, it requires more than memorizing steps. Some people don't have rhythm, and that's something that CANNOT be taught, so I would direct a rhythm-less person to look elsewhere too. As far as the "look," that's just the reality too. You're look is what employers/artists see first, so if you don't have a look, then you won't get a casting. It's SUPER competitive, so you just have to play by those rules to get anywhere professionally.

    I wish instead of discouraging people from pursuing dance Tricia would encourage them but be realistic. She should tell them that they are going to need to put in 10x or 20x as much time and effort into dancing to be competitive in the field and that even still they might not make it, but she'll help them any way she can if they try. That way, if the person is truly passionate about dance she could help them achieve something with that extra hard work, or if they don't think it's worth it they can try something else.
