As someone with a lot of experience with FEBuilder, this video makes me think back to when i first found the program, messing around with it and finding all the bugs. Great video, would love to see more. And, by the by, if you want to do this again, there are two patches that you can use to make this easier. AI controls Player units. And Control Enemy. That way you don't have to manually set all the enemies to players yourself
And by using just the control enemy patch, you can have someone else control the blue units while you control the red ones, IIRC. To make things less frustrating for the red player, you might want to also install a 1rn patch so that the low% hit rates don't get cut further by 2rn. A DSFE avoid (avo=spd+lck instead of avo=spd*2+lck) patch would also make the hit rates more manageable. I believe both are available from the default list of patches that come with febuilder?
No way, is it genuinely that easy? 😅 That would have saved me a lot of time haha. Thanks for the advice, that might make the full campaigns possible. Do you know if those patches are available on all 3 GBA games?
@@BadAtFireEmblem FE6 has awful compatability because of its engine. FE8 meanwhile is the most compatible, and it's usually the go too for rom hacking I just checked and that "Change the Control of Blue Units" patch is FE8 only, so sorry about that! @@BadAtFireEmblem and, by the by, the Game Over flag condition is triggered by the units Death Quote, so you'll be able to alter that as well by changing the death quote completion flag from 65 (GameOver) to 0. The adventures of Lord Batta and his trusted allies, 30 skill guy, the glitch face gang and Bug all fighting to save the day from the Zombie Nomad Lyn and her fellow zombies. Luckily your army has the power to rewind time to avoid things like instant death curses and to try different strategies against Lyn's overwhelming power.
I believe every action was causing a game over because the Game Over Flag (global flag #65) was active. It activates during the death quote of the main lord. So even though you cleared the chapter before the game over screen hit, the flag was still active, and it checked for it at the end of any action. You can manually deactivate the flag using the debugger event screen, or you can go in and delete the flag from Lyn's death quote to stop that from happening. Also, you could set the death quotes of all the bosses to have the game over flag if you want so if the boss dies it's a game over, and you don't end up in an infinite loop like the prologue lol
HIGHLIGHTS Lyn dies? Game over. Lyn lives? Game over. Move your unit? Game over. The tip of Lyn's nose itches? Believe it or not, game over. After killing Lyn, Batta felt bad and took up her journey. Lyn and her army sneak up on the bandits by standing on top of each other wearing a single trenchcoat. A terrified villager pretends the bandits are there to help. The bandit, remembering Batta's change of heart, decides not to burn the town down. Inspired by the merciful bandits, an elite mercenary with 30 Skill joins them. Shaman garbs an Energy Ring, the world ends, then the Shaman gets duplicated. Lyn, repeatedly coming back from the dead (the red clothing is because it's stained with her own blood from countless deaths), terrifies the enemy army. They yield after one turn every time. Their boss, desperate, runs across the battlefield in full plate armor and defeats Lyn in one shot. Only for Lyn to revive right before his eyes. It's all over. It's all Lyn. Always has been. Lord Hausen: "Lundgren told me that my daughter had died" Lyn: "Well, yes, but actually no"
My theory for why Lyn's army all spawned on the same tile: they're programmed to enter on that tile, then move to their actual starting positions. Somehow in converting them to red units, the instructions to move them to their starting space is ignored.
It brought Batta into chapter 1 because he was added to the party by being blue, while Lyn wasn't. I think the game over was happening in chapter 1 because the game over flag might have still been set from when you cheated death in the prologue.
I know you seem to be very frustrated from the issues when making this video, but it was genuinely one of the funniest FE related videos I've seen in a while. Just the whole string of issues from 3:55 to 5:16 had me cackling and could tell from there that it was only going to get funnier.
I think they started ch2 in a pile because they all enter the map from there in a lil cutscene and then spread out, which obviously isn't happening because they're enemies (unless I'm misremembering in which case I have no idea)
I was giggling through the whole video, although it sounded super frustrating for you the constant completely unpredictable behaviour all the way through was absolutely top notch entertainment. As a software developer myself i felt that defeated "I dont understaaand!" in my soul.

Could you figure out a way to swap out generic mobs for any Boss who managed to survive in earlier maps? Could build up your party as you go, allowing you to keep named Red Units with Batta as the Bandit Lord (still wish we had a full-length Bandit campaign game outside of Bandit Emblem that is kind of on the short side).
Lyn is one of my all time favorite characters in gaming. Watching her torment you and cause you game overs was nice. I really wish Nintendo remade the Elibe games.
I'm just getting into FE as a whole (had a 3ds laying around and decided to play awakening) so I don't really know how this game works but even then, this was an absolute blast to watch, very entertaining and funny, great content!
20:53 "Why are my units so bad?" Should your units, apart from the bosses, all be level 1 or 2? 31:52 Even on the final map, your Shaman is only level 3 and the Mercenary shown a few seconds later is level 2. It's been a while since I played this game, but that seems way too low
The wiki does confirm that basically every non-boss enemy is level 1 or 2. Lyn mode is basically just a pool of exp to distribute based on your favorite characters
Ah yes, the version unlocked after winning Hector Hard Mode Batta Beast Mode (also on the Dorcas map, shouldn't he be one of your units? he starts as an enemy until Lyn talks to him)
If you wanna try a challenge, i can recommend the "lasting damage" run, which is absolutely BRUTAL! Basicly, you treat every bit of damage taken as if it's permanent, and that healing simply doesn't exist. Instead of taking away health from a pool, damage is more treated as lowering the overall HP stat of the unit. Say you start with a character with 30HP. They take 5 damage, but level up HP as well. So since it took 5, but gained an overall HP as well, the damage carried over comes out as 31 for their new overall max HP, minus 5 for the damage taken, meaning the unit now has a new overall HP stat of 26. You pretty much keep track of damage like in D&D, and if your character ever drops to zero overall HP after taking damage, that unit is permanently dead, as this challenge runs off of ironman rules as well...
I have 3 years worth of FRBuilder experience so I find really funny to see you make the same mistakes I did at the very beginning, not understanding events and flags through the many parameters that play For example I believe the repeated Game Over of chapter 2 might have been because you killed Lyn (who has a game over death flag regardless of faction) but forced the clear chapter right before, and it might have put the game over on stand by waiting for an input
I did eventually work out why the game overs were happening on most chapters, but chapter 10 I have no clue haha. Yeah febuilder is interesting to say the least 😅
One of the big things that you could do to remove the game over flag is to make every chapter not have their unit game over condition as the main lord, but as the boss instead

I don't know how to fix it and I have no clue why it happens or why it only happens sometimes, but if you really can't fix the "game over after every move" problem you might want to try to just spawn another Lyn on your team in a corner.
Considering how weak the Lyn mode enemies are, this was actually impressive. The rest of the game would hypothetically be much easier, though I don't imagine you have the sanity left to attempt such a long, arduous task.
