Actually, scientifically speaking, it's easier to hit a bouncer than a pitch that doesn't hit the ground (short of slow pitches). The real thing that makes transitioning from baseball to Cricket hard, from a batter's perspective, is that the ball can be pitched/bowled anywhere, including at the batter. THAT'S the hard part. Baseball batters are used to a certain style of batting that goes out the window in cricket.
In baseball, what makes it difficult for a cricketer to transition into baseball batting is the existence of the foul lines, the round bat, and the different styles of pitches. Throwing straight and hard (all fastballs) won't take a pitcher very far in the Major Leagues. A successful pitcher needs a few more pitches. The GREAT pitchers have pinpoint control. Many great hitters have been made to look foolish due to mixing pitches, speeds, and locations.

Watch one of DJ bravo's slow balls. He balls low full toss balls that curve down the wicket like a baseball slider. So no, I think Cricket bowlers can easily adapt because they know how to change the trajectory of the balls even without the bounce.

There's a lot of truth to that. Baseballers get to wear thick, leathery gloves to catch the ball. Cricketers, on the other hand, are catching the ball, often from speeds of 130+ miles/209+ kilometers per hour, BARE-HANDED. Doesn't take a genius to figure out which game is more difficult.

Lachlan Neshek Cricket players wear pads because the bowlers (Pitchers) actually try to hit the batsman. If you get hit, tough luck. Players have had broken ribs, ended up in comas and even died because the bowlers were bowling the ball AT them.

@@philmccracken179 The general rule of cricket is, you touch the ball and you are out, you don't touch the ball you are out. That's how it's in international games. The ball once pitched can have infinite variation and that only means you have infinite chances of getting yourself out. The only place you should allow the ball to touch your bat is the middle of the bat and you have to somehow very accurately send it inbetween the fielders such that it reaches a boundary or you can get a run. If you swing the bat like a blind man, the first ball will come at 90 mph and say you got lucky, the next ball will just have a variation of about 5 mph that's bowled at 85mph and that will give make not touch the middle of the "surfboard", it'll just touch it at the edge or what not and instead of flying off the thing will be flying up within the ground and you will be taken. Or you will get a ball that will decimate your legs at 95 mph and hit all the three stumps. That's just two really rudimentary ways to get someone out.
There's a reason the sport is called game of angles. Its all about sending the ball in the right direction using its own momentum, but instead if you try to put your own energy in there's a Very good chance you will get yourself out very easily. It takes a lot of skill to hit the ball the right way.

jeez everyone in these comments needs to chill. I'm a high school baseball player and I tried cricket one day when I was 13-14 and I'd say they're both great sports. Obviously I had to get get used to hitting a bouncing pitch, but eventually it became easy. Not saying cricket is easier than baseball, but they're honestly pretty similar. There are things that make each sport easier and harder than the other but. Reading a bounce is pretty similar to picking up an offspeed in baseball and I get cricket pitchers can throw anywhere but all a batter really needs to do is make contact where as in baseball you have to hit the ball hard. Judging by this comment section someone's gonna come at me saying cricket is way harder or something and to them I say to step in the box against Jacob Degrom and I also tell the baseball players to step in against a good cricket bowler before ranting about which sport is better

I think a better way to gauge cricket batting versus baseball batting is for professional cricketing and professional baseball to swap, say, five "typical" batters each, spend a few weeks teaching them the ins and out of batting within their respective sporst, and then see what happens in a real, professional setting.
They did this, all MLB players were outpacing cricket all stars, and the cricket players where worst than high-school baseball players.

completely disagree.. if you could see here Didi Gregorius is holding the bat very awkwardly and his technique is horrible, while Guptill could easily perfect his swing with a few tweaks. Even though the bat is smaller and with a weirder shape, I'm sure guptill could manage a .200 with a few months practice while I doubt gregorius could get anywhere close to touching a 140kmph yorker one ball and a 140 kmph bouncer the next.

A cricketer can play Base base anytime, not that difficult for a cricket as playing bounce is a challenge as it may bounce in variation, where as a fulltoss ball(ball directy coming to the bat without bouncing) is considerd 'piece of cake' in cricketing world. A baseball player thus finds difficult to adapt to cricketing skills. Having said that, there is always a challenge for a cricketer to hit the ball in front as he loses the comfort of hitting it behind.. Still over all if we consider its difficult for a baseball player to adapt

cricket fan here, Don't get butt hurt. Pro Baseball players are years ahead of cricketers in the field, Every Baseball player has a good arm. Normally 1-2 Cricket in the field(apart from the fast bowlers) have a good arm.

David Warner wanted to have a try at baseball, 1 Baseball Coach said he had to "improve his throwing and fielding" he was already 1 of the best outfielders in cricket.

DickTheDestroyer mate cricket is superior. Like most American games, you took a foreign game and americanised it i.e made it dumb. Both are equally physically demanding. But do you have to play a million types of spin, swing, pace and you never know which one is coming. Like honestly, what skill does the batsman have to show instead of seeing the ball and hitting it just the same. Cricket batsmen show footwork, square drive, cover drive, pull shot, sweep,reverse sweep etc. Similarly in bowling, a cricket bowlee can show variation of off spin, leg spin, wrist spin, finger spin, medium pace, medium fast, in swing, out swing, short ball, good length, long length, yorker, wide yorker etc. Compare that to just pitch fast or with some swing. Fielding, a five yr old kid can catch a less heavy baseball with gloves. Cricketers cant even touch the boundary line while catching meaning you have to quickly decelerate and stop yourself and not jump into the crowd. The two tough aspects are small bat, and more speed. Little kids are allowed to bend the elbow while bowling, like that is not even proper bowling. So when you look at both sports from a neutral standpoint, youll find cricket is simpler yet beautiful.doesnt mean you cant enjoy baseball though.

You don't have a position. Every cricketer has to have a turn at batting, then when the other team is batting, everyone on your team has to field wherever the captain tells them to, and usually five people on your team will do the bowling.

I have never seen a cricket player bowl 100mph. The quickest ive ever seen was Brett Lee and he probably maxed out between 89-93 MPH.
Luke D Brett Lee, Shaun Tait and Shoaib Ahktar have all bowled over 100mph in a game. Others have come very close, such as Mitch Starc who bowled 99.6 mph against NZ.
However none of those bowlers could do that consistently. They average somewhere around 80-90mph. So it does happen, but it certainly isn't the norm.

I don't hate baseball, but I hate it when it gets compared to cricket. Becoming a top-level cricketer takes years of mastering your craft. Baseball is not easy, but I feel that if you have exceptional hand-eye coordination, balance, and power, you could walk in the team without much fuss. In cricket that is not the case.
ashliski thats not really tru for baseball because the way the bat is shaped. You have a lot of space to hit with a cricket bat (not saying its easy) but with a baseball bat, there is something called the “sweet spot” and if you dont hit it there, you are basically screwed over. (Most of the time). The sweet spot is only a small portion of the bat (a few cm) also, the bat is round, making it harder.

cricket requires far more skill levels.... it's not about just hitting but about maneuvering the ball into gaps to steal runs.... also it requires far better temperament to survive at the crease n pile on runs amidst extreme pressure.... also requires lot more strategy n brains... also fielding is done without gloves except the wicket keeper...i followed baseball a lot but never could come to enjoy it as much as cricket...

I'm an American who moved to Australia 10 years ago. It took me about a month of summer cricket to develop a passion for the sport, remember the tri-series one dayers? Now I prefer Cricket over Baseball, but both sports are great.

There are tons of baseball players who are overweight (CC Sabathia, Prince Fielder, even Babe Ruth) that are/were amazing players. Now, I have very little knowledge of cricket to say which one has more skill, but idk why all the baseball hate. They are similar in some ways and completely different in others. Think of baseball as America's big middle finger to the English since we knew how much they loved cricket so we invented a sport to replace it and become the 'national pastime' just to piss them off.

If the normal throw in baseball is the worst throw in cricket the no it won't be that hard for all cricketers. Maybe a lot of cricketers will struggle but yes only the cricketers who's hand eye coordination is great coupled with great reaction speed, they will be able to adapt and hit the ball.
