BTW this is NOT a sponsored video. I happily paid Matt. It may seem like a lot of money, but consider the cost of a new cluster. You can also get the same screen that came in the car for about $150.
I think so. I’d recommend contacting Matt and asking him just to be 100% sure. Or the link to his FB page may give that info too. I want to say yes but I’d hate to be wrong here. I know it’s good on the VW side since the cluster is almost the same as my R32
Unfortunate? I only change odometers for legit reasons and make people sign waivers for it. I actually PUSH cloning over "correction" way more so that all original cluster info is carried over and no "fraud" is happening. Also keep record of all odometers changed so if anyone ever has a question of what the original mileage was, I have record of it. The total number of odometer 'corrections" that weren't clones are in the single digits across hundreds of clusters and all but 2 were actually increasing mileage on donor cluster. I don't take kindly to odometer fraud so honestly not sure why you believe I push illegal corrections so heavily when that's not the case ;)
Just re-badged VW, same as Seat (say-it or seet, no idea, anyway, awfully creative name for a car..) Don't see the point why we need that in States.. Literally same cars, different logo.
KRAUSER0130 Hey, it may seem stupid for native English speakers but in reality it actually means Sociedad Española de Automóviles de Turismo. And Skoda is actually older than VW. These brands in Europe are a chaper alternative to VW, which is a cheper alternative to Audi. And they all use the same engines and they share platforms.
Funny enough, even if the Skoda is on the same platform as VW (engine, suspension, etc) the build quality is really good, even better than VW in some cases.
@@KRAUSER0130 maybe they have the same engines and electronics but the quality and the equipment-standards are different.VW have better quality and interiors more like audi standards ,vw it's upper class than skoda and seat.
Well worth the money. I love how modern it looks even though the car is 14yrs old, but at the same time looks like that was a standard feature on the r32.
THANK YOU for this information!!!! Matt not only change out my color LCD on my 2007 Touareg but also replaced the screen on my navigation system. HE SAVED ME HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS!!!
3:00 - funny enough, at least the older Volvo stock clusters can do almost this, e.g. they will not clarify the issues nor clear the fault codes (you still need a scanner for that), yet can list the installed modules along with the code status per each. A great feature when tracking down a floaty fault!
Been following the Vortex thread on this for a while and I'm glad to see it in action. If I decide to hold on to my R longer, this is definitely going on the "to do" list. My MFA is unreadable any time it gets warm. This would solve that issue and bring some modern features to the R.
I'm upset you didn't post this when you ordered it! Now I gotta wait until the Fall for my install. So stoked for this replacement MFA. This has all the gadgets I could ever want.
As long as I can get all the goodies installed before WITW 2019, i'll be golden. Got a custom BBK from rotorlab.com coming this week (Toureg 1LE 4 piston calipers), diverter valve from noweeds.net, and this Color MFA from litke.
Hell yeah! This thing is bad ass for sure!!! If I didn't have a cobb accessport in my mk6 gti this would definitely be an essential upgrade. Loving the r32 content. 👌🏼
That's an awesome mod. I've had 3 different MKIV's (2 GTI's and a R32) and all of them had this screen fade issue. In the event I go back to an R32 (I got rid of mine a year ago. A decision I regret and am considering remedying in the next few months) I'll definitely be going to Litke for my mod. Thanks for sharing so much info on these cars. After so long since release, obtaining information that's still current can be problematic as the Vortex is slowly dying off and there just isn't as much info generated from the last 2-3 years easily available.
Curses you Charles! I have plenty of other things to sort out on my Mkiv Jetta and now you’re making me want to spend more money on this lol! This is definitely getting added to the “Want To Do” list!
That's pretty cool. Back when I had my Mk4, I had swapped out the instrument cluster for the full pixel display MFI cluster. It did have that fade problem and it would even go out on occasion and I'd need to restart the car to get it back up. A lot has changed since those days, and I probably would have been able to use my original cluster for this mod. (BTW, still have the original cluster in my basement if anyone needs one).
Holy crap, no lie this is the first smart engineering choice I've seen by Volkswagen. A cover and literally 2 screws to remove the instrument cluster. Awesome. On a 1992 Honda accord, theres like 12 hidden screws and you have yo take off the entire flimsy cover which always ends up breaking.
Oddly enough VW actually did get things fairly right with their clusters. All off them after the late 90's can be removed in less than 10 minutes and even the earlier water cooled ones come out easily even though they do require taking off a few more parts but still 15 minutes max to pull them. Everything else on the cars though.......... not always that easy haha.
Truth! The one that took me the longest to ever remove though was a B5 A4. Even though it takes 20 seconds to expose the 2 screws, it was like someone used an impact driver on the screw so was way over torqued, stripped the head and then left a surprise for the person (me) who had to remove the cluster haha.
HumbleMechanic But besides the fact it is already expensive, i would also have a LOT of downtime for my car (Jetta Wagon, of actually it's a Bora here)...
Shipping rates across the pond are actually quite reasonable, however in the AR Ditta is the man you would want to speak to. He's the UK rep and installer.
Man, this is a great channel. Wish I'd discovered it sooner. One of my cars is an MKV Jetta and I would LOVE to have this mod done, but he posted on his FB page that he can only do OEM screen replacements for the MKV at this time. It works fine, I just want that fancy screen. :) God that looks fantastic.
One of the best pages honestly. The admin team has to do very little to keep that page nice unlike the MKIV pages where the team is always addressing something haha.
Wow!!! That's is so cool. I own a 2012 Volkswagen EOS. (Well it's my wife's car) But it my first Volkswagen since my 1969 fastback. In 1974. And she loves this car. So I want to always find an up grade for it. And that's one I can use.
NICE! For your EOS I think you are looking at something more like this www.kermatdi.com/i-852-polar-fis-advanced-dashboard-display.html#!year%3D2012%7C%7Cmake%3DVOLKSWAGEN I liked up Kerma because they support the CrewMembers with an awesome discount.
Charles the USB port on the back allows you to flash firmware updates to the Color MFA. It also allows you to upload different startup screens when you turn the cluster on. HMU on FB and I'll give you the link to the Color MFA Google drive that Matt provided...
Jeff King ah, I was under the impression the USB was what fed information to and from the screen. So the screen is actually (and properly) soldered into the standard gauge harness? That's even more impressive than I originally thought!
Yes it's all "self contained". The cluster already recieves all the necessary data via CANBus and a few analog signals. The USB is only for updating and boot image uploading. Only need to add extra wiring in the following cases: Boost Gauge: run single wire to ECU for MAP return feed. This also works on none factory boosted cars. No factory screen type cluster: run 6 wires for menu controls and outside temp sensor but this is the same steps as adding a factory screen cluster. Early MK4's with low speed comfort CANBus: Need 2 twisted wires run to the CCM so that the door open image works and will show what doors are open.
Brother that is awesome, And that makes the R look awesome. Having the option to monitor MVB too! I will be doing business with your friend. Great video.
Charles, I took out my cluster today to send off to Matt, but unfortunately I managed to break both(!) of the 32 pin connector locks. The tab that locks the purple lock into place on the blue connector broke and and the purple locking tab broke on the green connector. Is there a fix for this without having to rewire those connectors?
For cars without the MFD: do you know if this can be added to the existing cluster? And, do you just need the correct stalk or is there wiring as well (obviously ambient air temp, but beyond that)?
This is really both a fantastic fix and upgrade. I especially like the diagnostic integration. But I mostly only drive my mk5 GTI on snow days, and already have a VAG-COM, so for me it isn't justified.
HumbleMechanic. I bet he just needed some basic skills, no degree needed and identify an area of need. I think his business model is brilliant. Great type of business you can start from home. By the way, love the fact you reply, doesn't seem to matter if my comment is 200 in you still reply. Most you tubers don't bother. Might be hard with a couple thousand comments, but for now makes us feel a little special to get a reply. Thanks mate.
Matt’s a great dude and razor sharp. I love the side biz he is running. Thanks for the kind words about comments. It’s hard sometimes but I try to reply to everyone. lol. :)
This type of stuff is fairly big over in Europe but when I looked into even just an OEM FIS cluster for my own MKIV 6 years ago ago, no one in the states did any legit cluster modding and I didn't want to pay $$$ to send stuff to a random guy in Germany or the UK and would rather learn how to do it. So what started as just a "I don't want to pay someone to do what I want" turned into doing a few clusters here and there for friends and now is a "full time" side job in the evening and weekends (electrical engineer by day, cluster modder by night). Never thought just a single cluster project would spiral into this or that so many people would even be interested in having their clusters done. The early customers were a huge help. Not a trivial thing to trust some random person at the time with a key item to the car.
This is such a cool modification! I am definitely considering this for my R32 and my Bora. I'm intrigued what can be added/amended through the USB port on the back, is it end user programmable or do you have to send a request to Matt and have him send something back for you to install?
question about clusters! My C5 A6 had its cluster replaced at the dealer and they put in a higher spec one with the screen. Since the car originally had no screen there i dont have buttons to switch between range, avg consumption, time, etc. It only shows range but i'd like to have all the functions. What do? Is it possible to wire in the lever with buttons?
Yes, swap the wiper stalk and add 4 wires to wiper stalk and run 1 to ground and 3 to gray cluster plug (cavities 17, 18, 19). I believe there is a writeup on the Audi forums
Hay bud I need some help and I'm pretty confused and think I'm pretty much past my abilities of figuring it out. It's an 03 golf 1.8t gti mk4. Code awp. And my issue is no warning indicators light up at all on my instrument cluster, and cause the little battery light dont come on. I have a charging issue also. It's a new alternator, and battery is good(had tested). has 12.6v on b+ also on D1(excite wire). Terminal 4 and 7 on obd plug show little under 9v. Car runs, drives, sounds fantastic as always but no charging so eventually battery dies, and no dash warning indicators, dash lights like guages work fine, dimmer works headlights all good. Just the warning indicators are gone like never light up when You put it in run position or start it. Fuses over checked all good, even replaced instrument cluster ones just in case. Manual says that the battery light has to be on.. but doesnt say where to look or what to do to fix it..? Can you help me??.
I’d just like to note that the battery should be disconnected when unplugging and installing cluster. If not, you risk triggering the immobilizer. I’ve done it.
Honestly that really isn't an issue. Those who have issues with immo tripping when removing cluster is due to the green plug not being fully seated so the transponder coil isn't see a key. This happens all the time for people who remove clusters and then suddenly have tons of issues..... plug not seated and locked.
You’re killing me Charles!! My money is going straight to my R32!! Lol. Great vid as always Charles. Quick question? What is the turn around time for something like this? My car is my Daily Driver and having the cluster out and car down for X amount of time.
Lead time for unit production is 3-4 months. Actual install only takes 2-3 days. If no other mods are being done can usually install the unit and turn cluster around next day even.
Get another old cluster from the scrap yard or EBAY and use that while your cluster if off getting the upgrade. When you get your cluster back simply sell the one you swapped out.
I think it depends on the Immob that you have. I recommend contacting Matt, or check out that link to his FB page to be 100% sure. I don't want to tell you the wrong things.
BTW this is NOT a sponsored video. I happily paid Matt. It may seem like a lot of money, but consider the cost of a new cluster. You can also get the same screen that came in the car for about $150.

AWESOME! Thanks Jeff. I think Matt sent that over to me. I need to put a THM logo on that.
Only need to add extra wiring in the following cases:
Boost Gauge: run single wire to ECU for MAP return feed.

Lots of cool options, very nice upgrade.
That is phenomenal work, I have been wanting to do something like this for a while.
I didn’t know this could be done. My b5.5 Passat display has this fading issue. Looks amazing. Wonder can something like this be done in UK.
Excellent
I’m sure Matt can do it
Hello, how much does such a tachometer cost with shipping to Poland?
This is really both a fantastic fix and upgrade. I especially like the diagnostic integration. But I mostly only drive my mk5 GTI on snow days, and already have a VAG-COM, so for me it isn't justified.
This exact mod doesn't work on MK5. For MK5 you are looking at the Auto Polar unit.
Its very similar to a liquid gauge then?
Hola hermano puedes indicarme donde comprar la pantalla
With this upgrade can I still use the original buttons to navigate these menus?
On the stalk? Yes
HumbleMechanic awesome! Wasn't too sure because you mentioned using the new port to change settings but thought I was misunderstanding.
Skoda in the US? What’s next?? SEAT?
My Fiat Grande Punto's MFD has also conked off..its an LCD Unit it lights up but doesn't show anything any solution?
Hey i have a 2002 Vw passat Dashboard cluster not working cant tell how fast i am going or how much gas i have just Nothing working
Does this work for the 2005 mk4 tdi???
Can you send us a link on where you had this done please as this is brilliant
That's crazy I didn't know the r32 could do that! I'm going to reach out to him for my b5.
Do it!!
Hola hay ese cluster para mk4 transmisión manual ?
Is there a way to upgrade the mk7 gti cluster gauge panel w the mk7 R?
Not like this.
I'd like to install this along with the RCD330+ in my Mk4 R32, would these 2 work together?
Wow, now thats cool. Can u show all the options u added? I want it like yours.
The only change I did was the colorMFA The rest is stock R32 cluster
MIKE G 77
is mod just for r32 ? or it could be added to 1.8t or 1.9tdi?
Really cool. Big market out there for fixes like that.
There is such an amazing future in this type of vehicle modification

Did you ever get around the changing the B5? How easy was it to remove that cluster? Looking to do this to my B5.5 immediately!
you remind me of one of my old highschool teachers he was awesome by the way and had a cool bread like you !
Thanks I will take it. :)
Your welcome!
Looking to get this for my MK4 R32. Really like your setup. Do you happen to remember what options you chose?
So how exactly is it controlled? How do you go thru those settings?
Buttons on the wiper stall
this cluster also working for Golf 4 or just for R32 ?
This exact one is R32. But Matt can do them for mk4. Some mk4 has to have stalk added
Was that a Dale Gribble at 0:50?
Nice catch. :)
Is this an option for a 2011 vw jetta se 2.5l ?!
Can this be purchased and retrofitted to a damaged unit?
Probably. Matt can rehab just about anything.
HumbleMechanic contact detail please?
Link in the description:)
I'm literally gobsmacked at how awesomely brilliant and OEM plus this is! Nice one Charles! 😎
RIGHT! It's so simple but so awesome. I don't mean the install or programming is simple, but it was easy for me HAHAHA
A fantastic upgrade!
That is cool. Can it be done in all cars and trucks?
I bet many cars have some type of option like this.
Ooh now that is very nice 👌🏻 quality bit of kit
Hi
2004 volkswagen bora 1.6 i have 16 valve vehicle how can i find from this screen
Is the process for removing the cluster on passat b5.5 the same ?
It’s a bit more in-depth on the Passat. You are supposed to take the wheel off.
Thank you very much. I really enjoy the videos on your channel, i am also vw owner.
Where can I buy this?

How do we get in touch with Matt?? Awesome!!
Facebook is best.
Can this be done with the MK4?
My B7 Passat NEEDS this.
Link for buy colour mfi please?
Do you have any problems with the immobilizer when you reinstall the cluster?
No it should install just fine
What kind of oil level sender do you recommend with this mod?
I'm from UK and would love to have in my bora . If I ship it do u think he would do mine .
why? join in the bora/mk4 uk group on facebook there are people doing this and you wont have to ship your dash overseas
I’d just like to note that the battery should be disconnected when unplugging and installing cluster. If not, you risk triggering the immobilizer. I’ve done it.
I think you can add that. I didn’t because no plans for boost.
LOL, sorry man I know I am killing ya. HAHAH. Matt was super fast. If I had to, I would rent a car. HAHA
Get another old cluster from the scrap yard or EBAY and use that while your cluster if off getting the upgrade. When you get your cluster back simply sell the one you swapped out.
I know this is an old video, but I would like to know if it works on a 12v VR6 MK IV as well or is it just for the R32?
Depends on the car trim level. HE can add it to any of them. but some you need to add the stalk to make it work.
Wow fantastic. I want this for my mk4
Will it fit on mk4 2000' it has a little display not big one like this
I think it depends on the Immob that you have. I recommend contacting Matt, or check out that link to his FB page to be 100% sure. I don't want to tell you the wrong things.
HumbleMechanic Ok thank you man for reply and all other videos best regards.
🙏🙏🙏thanks for this. You sir are the best
No boost gauge option?
Yes, boost can be shown. Charles's cluster has that option hidden since it would be pointless on a N/A R32.
Planeboy18 thanks for letting me know. Atm I have the p2 vent gauge, but I think it would be nice for a gauge cluster option for my CC.
Did you keep everything original in the cluster and just changed the guage sweep and the info screen?
Yep
Thank you for this. I have a 2000 VW Beetle and i want to retrofit a similer cluster. Is it doable?
I don't think the Beetle can do it.
Oh wow that is soooooo cool !
Freaking awesome didn't see b6 in the listings of vw's & he rents tablet with Vag-Com installed on it with a cable Oh he'll yea!
