Thank you so much Brooke for doing this video! I have some retro dining room chairs from the 60's with cane backs. My ex's grandson took a pen and poked it through the holes in the cane while i was at work one day, damaging 2 chairs. I bougt those kinda ugly, stretchy covers for them, hoping I'd find a way to repair them someday. Looks like I'm heating up the glue gun this afternoon! Wish me luck! ♥️
Aww that’s so sad!!!! 😢 But oh my goodness I’m so glad I could help! There is like nothing out there about how to fix cane so I had to make it up as I went. Just make sure to use it sparingly and almost imagine it like the hot glue is a 3D pen! And then if you have any paint or gel stain to help color match it back that really helped hide the appearance of the damage even more. But most importantly I think it helps protect it from unwinding and getting worse! Good luck!!! ☺️❤️
I hope you are stupid proud of your work. They look fantastic but I will say every time you said how well things were going I winced! Can’t wait to see you pull it all together.
Bahahah girl me and you think alike 🤣🤣🤣 I kept thinking this is going so well I can’t believe it and then I was like oh crap now something is gonna go TERRIBLY wrong but it really didn’t! So I guess I just got lucky! 🤞🏼❤️ But thank you! I’m just really happy they turned out exactly as I imagined 🥹
Wow! What a beautiful transformation! Well done!👏 I am impressed…you are a worker, especially considering you did all that while battling humidity! I’m so happy for you…You couldn’t have found more perfect chairs for your dining room, truly. Enjoy!😊
I've watched you now for well over a year, off and on. I must say, the improvement you have made since then in your diy skills has improved massively. You did so well on the dining chairs. Well done👏
Wow thank you so much for this! 😭 Thank you for sticking around and supporting the channel over this past year and thank you for the encouragement! I really appreciate you. And I’m so glad you enjoyed this video ❤️
Hahah no 🤣 I about lost my mind painting those chairs haha, that’s why there is barely any footage of me painting them , I was way to cranky and over it to bother turning the camera on haha.
Was excited for you! You did a great job on your own. When you would smile, I would smile just like I would do if there. Then I thought she can’t see me. Was a 🤭 moment. Enjoyed the video.
Oh my goodness Brenda!!!! 😭😭😭 This is the sweetest!!! I absolutely love this, and you should know that I legitimately feel like y’all are right there with me when I do these projects. Seriously, it feels like a room full of friends , so I love this and I’m so glad you feel it too! 🥹❤️
@@brookedonnellyliving good luck!!! I know how daunting those giant projects can be🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼but i cannot wait to see it, i hope it goes as smoothly as the chairs🤞🏻
Thanks Carolyn! I’m really hoping to be able to finish the remaining projects for this space this week ( but we will see 😅) and so hopefully I’ll be sharing the final makeover very soon!
Yay!! Loved watching this transformation. I also get into a project and am like “what did I get myself into because it’s taking wayyyy longer than I thought it would” 😂😂 the chairs turned out so beautifully! Excited to see how the table & bench turn out.
Haha girl isn’t that how every project goes?! 🤣 It’s the worst. But I am happy that this time it actually worked out really well even if it did take me a little longer than I thought 😆 And yes! I’m excited to get this project done and show you all of it! I know it’s gonnna be good even though I’m not quite there yet 😅🤞🏼❤️
Hi Brooke. You did a fabulous job on those chairs. I have the exact ones in my dining room right now. You have made me look at them differently. I will say, you are a courageous young lady for sure!! 👏👏👏✋✋
@@brookedonnellyliving Mine are finished in a French provincial wood. The dining room set cost us $5000 back in 1983 so it is a very good quality set. My chairs are relatively heavy too and the table is VERY heavy to move.
Love them! My mom had those same chairs and matching table when i was growing up! This looks so high end and I can see the vision. I would get some scotch guard for the seats. It comes in a spray can. I have used it on outdoor curtains and indoor chair seats. Really helps repel stains and make them more wipeable.
You’re kidding! That’s crazy what a coincidence!!! And aww thank you! That’s exactly what I’m going for! High end ( but on a VERY thrifty and DIY budget 🤣😅) And oh that’s a good idea! Luckily I also had some fabric left over should I need to replace a seat down the road. Also… I recently tried Mrs.Mouths Stain Eater spray and holy cow it’s magic. So I’m gonna keep some of that in my cabinet too! Haha.
These dining chairs are gorgeous❤ I have this little obsession with wood chairs! I love collecting the to sit all around my house just as decor, & of course if they're in good shape then that's a plus.. they're functional as well.😉 Most of the ones I've collected are just wood, but some have upholstered seats, some have the seats & backs. I have one that has the cane back & the seat has an thick wood inlay with studs around the inlay & this pretty detailed carving. Its one of my favs that has no upholstery. We we get moved into our house i would love to find an older oval or rectangle table and 6 old, mix match but complimenting chairs..i really want unpainted wood but if i find a pretty white one that's fine too. Anytime I want something from HL, i always wait till that item is on sale.. because i know it will be! I'm so glad you got all the painting done & the seats covered.. and all went well for you! Love the fabric you chose.. girl they look so good! You did A fantastic job! I mean I would buy one if i found one in a store!😁 I know the reveal Is going to be epic! Honestly I've never had the desire to reupholster anything, but this was quite inspiring! If I ever find a piece i want to re-do.. I'll remember how this inspired me! Great job.. excited for the reveal!😊
Oh my goodness thank you so much! That really means a lot to me that you loved how these chairs turned out so much! Especially since you have such an eye for chairs! I really hope this did inspire you to reupholster a chair so you may love it a little more and I can’t wait to show you this room when it’s all finished 🥹❤️
Hi from Florida😊 I wondered about the color combo, but it is so textural, high end & beautiful! I always use my serrated electric knife for foam. Works like a dream, especially on thicker pieces😊❤
Hey there!!! Hopefully you are surviving the Florida humidity! I can only imagine how bad it is there right now if it’s been this rough here in SC! And thank you so much! I do hope that you like how they turned out! And yes haha a electric knife haha that’s the name of it, not a Turkey cutter haha 🤣 but yes that’s exactly it. And now I have no doubt that would work sooo well if a bread knife worked as well as it did!
I had to laugh, I recane chairs. Anytime you take a chair out in humidity or it gets wet, the cane softens. Once it’s dry it gets tight again. Cane is finicky, it’s hard to paint and stain, but it can be done. I think a better way to repair the hole, get a piece of cane and weave it into the chair. Supergluing it and taping till it’s dry. Obviously the best way is to replace it. I love cane chairs, they are my favorite. Cool idea with trying to get it to look natural. Two tone chairs look great. Ok a dining chair needs two inch high density foam, it comes wrapped for shipping, like a mattress, lol, I had to laugh when you opened it. I’m Glad you doubled it, you can spray glue foam together, then cute it out again, then glue the layers together. Great job! Tables aren’t as bad as they look, staining isn’t easy but there are lots of ways to update them. I personally love a good vintage table. Kudos to you for doing your own furniture. Most people wouldn’t try. ❤
Wow!!! Do you really?! See I feel like that would be such an intricate skill that is definitely out of my skill set haha. But that’s awesome. I did think about getting some cane or trying to weave something in there to patch the hole but I guess I decided to take the easy way out since I know I didn’t need that 6th chair all the time 😆😅 I just went through quite a fail with my table 🤣 So I’m officially on a low key antique and thrift hunt for a new to me table that matches my vision but it may be a lengthy hunt so I’m gonna just live with the table as is to finish the dining room ☺️❤️
I seen someone soaked toothpicks in water, flatten with hammer and fill in missing peices. I like the glue gun idea as well and will use combination of both to fix mine, thanks..awesome job!!
OH MY GOSH THATS GENIUS!!!! I wish I had known that when I did mine because I definitely would have used a combo to fix it. Oooooh definitely try it and let me know how it goes! And thank you! I will be keeping that in the back of my mind for future use!!!
To be completely honest with you it’s just a cheap semigloss black from Walmart 🤣 nothing special 😅 But that’s amazing! I’m sure they will be beautiful!
