Here's part 1 of this 2 part case mod series: • Modding the InWin 301 ...
Finally got the parts and was able to finish the InWin 301 case mod! I changed out the CPU cooler fan just because I thought the black fan matched the theme of the case a little better than the default white one. I am also aware of the fact that I spray painted red RAM sticks red again, I just wanted them to match the red I used on the GPU. Also, now you've seen a super easy way to paint your RAM if ever you feel inclined! :D
The GPU backplate looks decent but it's not perfect. You can kind of see some light shining up through the paint in spots it's not supposed to, and the light doesn't defuse as evenly as I'd like. I'm still trying to find a cheap and easy way of building backlit backplates, and when I do find a way I'll be sure to let you all know :)
This is a pretty good gaming PC, if you are interested in building your own you could literally use the same exact parts I did and be in really good shape!
Here's the parts list (affiliate links):

TOP 301 MOD DONE RIGHT!!! Awesome build too!!
Am I the only one who thinks Dietec uses waaaaaay too much thermal paste?
To my understanding, the basis of thermal paste is to cover up any micro-gaps between the two metal surfaces of the CPU/GPU and the cooling unit, because the metal surfaces will naturally have concave areas. Where those concavities don't touch, heat will not be transferred as effectively = less cooling. Really heavy thermal paste actually decreases heat transfer by clogging up the exchange of energy from CPU/GPU to cooling apparatus.
Love the channel tho, 11/10
firehawk12164 cpu was perfect but that gpu was over kill.
GPU can have an entire tube of thermal paste on it and it'll be fine :P
If you say so!
Jayztwocents did a good video on this subject
Dietec not true!!! Too much thermal paste can spread and cause a shprt
That gpu mod is probably the best I've ever seen. Incredible work with the paint and backplate also loved the paper as backing.
Soon as I saw 2 pieces of acrylic being cut I knew it was gpu backplate time. Well you crushed it man. Great work on plate!!!!!!
You can avoid using a DC jack tails all together if you want to do some minor soldering. What we do is buy male sata to female molex adapters. Usually under $1 each. Snip off the molex connection and the extra 2 wires. Led strips are either going to be 5v or 12v. Snip off the dc jack and you will be left with 12v and ground cables. Solder those 2 wires to the 2 wires from the SATA adapter. And then you just plug directly into any PSU sata connection.
You can also pickup Bluetooth RGB or RGBW controllers from China for anywhere from $4-7 each. Then you just install the app on your phone and you are good to go. What we are trying to get into next is RGBW addressable strips. RF controllers are around $5 with the bluetooth being around $12-$15. So many more options and controls with addressable. And I actually don't think any motherboard, case, or fan company is doing addressable yet. I know some Gigabyte boards will do 5 pin RGBW strips.
+JimmysTheBestCop Dude hit me up on Instagram or email or something, I gotta get some Chinese links from ya.
Will do. Don't have instagram but I'll shoot you an email
Great work. You show a lot of growth with each build. Keep it up.
Found your video randomly and i'm really surprised of how good you are at modding pc's. Never thought a pc could look as good as you made it look . Congratulations! :)
+BM Alin Thanks man! I try really hard lol
Stunning, as usual! I love that you mentioned Jojococo as you two guys are my favorite UA-camrs to watch! I think the tutorials is a fantastic idea and look forward to it :) Keep On, Keepin' On!
Your backplates are freaking sick! Well done, thanks for the idea.
It just gets better. Without a doubt outstanding inspiration to those of us who are trying to learn to mod. Thanks for sharing this with us.I look forward to all your upcoming videos.
Nice work dudeski. Keep it up
Thanks my man!
The GPU backplate looks AMAZING , i know it took you many Time to do it but the result is slithly better than previous one !!!
Rustoleum should sponsor you...
+Josh Granstrom Yes they should.
Josh Granstrom Good can paint. I advise against gloss white. So many particulates.
I will have this case next week.. Wish i had the ability to do what you did to the front panel with the fans. Beautiful work
+J and K White Try it! Worst case scenario you ruin it forever and have to get another one :P
this is not the first time u painted a part with the same color😁. the paintwork on the GPU was my favorite but too bad so sad that it ended up in a place that no one can see.but ur backlit backplate is dope and something new. good choice of music. loving it
the backplate is so sick
This design looks sick ! Love it! Good work man ! ;)
Matte finish looks awesome!!!great work
Great video man.
Love your work.
Iv used reflective tape in the past,(with mixed results) to defuse the light with backplates ect.
Good show man
Awesome, Love the backplate!
Awesome!! I love Jojococo as well! Both of you guys do awesome work! :) Keep it up!
I love watching these soo much
Good job man! Really nice work, if you replaced the CPU and rear fan with a red LED one to match I think it would finish the look for sure :D
Ahh you might be right! I don't have access to this system anymore unfortunately otherwise I'd probably do that
An LED strip just on the left side inside the case. It gets a lil too dark. The front is just perfect. I love it every time i look at it
awesome build...am looking 4ward to the tutorials as well...thanks for giving us your time and effort mate
Damn man I STILL want this case so bad
so satisfying to watch
Never saw an easier backplate . Just put it on top without glue/doubleside tape :D. Nice build. What does Acryllic cost where you live?
+Michael van Dijk Eh not too much, $10 for a decently large piece
Dietec here in holland aprox. 40 euro about 47 dollar. For 1 m2
You are a very creative and talented person :)
Awesome Work Well Done. Its Looks Amazing, Love your Work.
I know what I'm doing with my ram modules tomorrow hahaha awesome modding as per dude
Eyy never been this easy ;)
awesome man! ive got the 303 and this makes me wanna do something similar!
Really looking forward to the backplate tutorial. also could you explain your adhesive transfer method? why do you put it on painter's tape before moving it to the acrylic?
As always, great vid.
+Middle of Knowhere Painters tape instead of transfer paper. Works just as good, I ran out of transfer paper so I had to get creative lol
ahh gotcha.
I wanted to start modding cases and I was just wondering what case would be good for me to start with? Also your videos are great :D
s340 elite
rubberducky331 Old case to waste while practicing, and mastercase series
I would say pickup a Cooler Master Masterbox lite 5. Typically only $50 on Amazon and Newegg. If you have never spray painted I recommend even some practice on cardboard. Just to get a handle on painting. I also recommend buying the spray can gun adapter. Its usually $3 and it does give you slightly more control and feel. Also place the spray cans in warm water for 20 minutes then shake for 1-2 minutes. That will make the paint come out nice and smooth and never clumpy or spray weird etc.
Only other thing to be aware of is extruded acrylic vs cast acrylic. Typically cast is with the brown paper backing and extruded is with the clear plastic backing. I've found extruded often to be a pain. Especially if you only have an acrylic hand "cutting" tool. And if you are drilling or cutting it with a machine it has to be masked or your risk melting or cracking. Extruded is usually sold at local home improvement stores and is 50% less $$ then the cast you find online. And snapping extruded is nothing like scoring and snapping cast.
You are the best man! Keep doin what you doin, you inspire and educate a lot of noobs like me :].
nice mods bro!!
Minus all of the messy hot glue work, awesome build! Would have been much nicer (IMO) with white lighting, but I know the 301 doesn't offer that.
+UA72Riddle I am doing an RGB mod on the 101 right now, there's an RGB version of the 301 and 101 already out there but modding the static colors to be RGB is definitely possible
One question, the backplate of the gpu is nice...but in that type of case...i would put more effort on the backplate than painting the video card that is so low in the case...that we do not see the card and the nice job you did painting it...i would prefer a vertical one at least to see the nice job you did.
+Alain Lafleche You're right! I have to really nail the backplate method. Still working on optimization
when you painted the ram without taking off the heatsink, did paint seep in through the top of the ram where there are holes? If so, does anything bad happen to the ram?
Yes it did get in there a little, but no nothing bad happens as long as the paint is non conductive
everything was kind of dull but i loved what you did to the gpu
Hey Dietec, sorry for my bad english @beginn,
i will buy this case too and the hoole in front for the intake fan´s are a brilliant idea, but im scared to saw a egg and not a Circle, you have some tip´s for that ? Thank you!
+Zack Hexaglo Use a hole saw, search on youtube the best way to do that. A 4.5" hole saw will be perfect for 120mm fans
Dietec ok nice ideal, i Jeep my eyes Open, cause i dont have the Money Forum buy one x)
God damn autokorrektion of mobile,... Gn8
The motherboard is ATX, but the official said it’s just fit for mATX,. how it’s possible? Or it’s just fit anyway?
Hey there mate! How did you power up the LEDs in the GPU backplate?
+h0xxy Just powered by a molex cable to the PSU
case very good mod
I like this dude work
Sick Video Bro
How do you keep the spray paint from smelling for a year after you paint the RAM? Maybe I got the wrong kinds, but any surfaces I spray-painted stayed fragrant for ages afterwards. D'oh!
do you think there could be room for a 3.5" drive above the HDD enclosure with a bit of modding
I love the build, but I am curious about why you bothered painting the RAM heat spreader? Keeping it the same color seems like a waste of energy.
Charles maybe he likes it matte.
Wanted the red to match the GPU
looks awesome
i have same gpu honstly that looks so nice i am gonna do the same to mine
6:25 i like the song says "not so bad" and and I agree with that
You never cease to inspire. Wonderful work.
A while ago I told you in a comment section of a previous video that I was working on a case mod for a Cooler Master Masterbox Lite 3. Do you wish for me to post the PCPartPicker link here? :)
+Spaghetti Send it to me on Instagram!
I don't have instagram aaaaaaaaaaaaa
Ok link it here, I just sometimes don't see replies but I'll specifically look for yours
Ah, alright, thanks!
It'll be here:
pcpartpicker.com/b/3TYTwP
Oh you showed me this already lol. I do like it
Wouldnt adding more holes to it make the computer much louder especially when playing video games
Thats a great mod will wait for new ones thanks!!! Dietec
Love it! How do you do the custom vinyl text? I’ve been considering doing a custom illuminated power supply shroud with a glowing Thermal Take logo but have not figured out to copy the text font.
I use a vinyl cutter to do all the stencils
Dietec my wife has a cricket which I’ve been thinking of using to do the same. For the font matching did you do something specifically or just tried to pick something that closely resembles the factory font?
Used a picture of the actual logo lol. It's not typed, it's traced
Dietec oh great idea! Thanks for the input!
dude what about temps... can you tellme at full load the gpu and cpu temps??... i want this case but I read that it is quite toasty
Is it possible to change front LEDs to RGB?
You should really frost the acrylic where the leds was
You're right, I was just experimenting with this one. Gotta try everything to see what works best right :D
#allthethermalgoo
But otherwise-great video! Ingenuity at its finest.
And thanks for interacting with us-your fans! Absolutly love that!
+BeGamerSl I love you
why did you use two different types of tape when painting the GPU? Just curious
+TheAbyssBr0 0 Vinyl is stretchy, so I was able to push it down into the indent easier
Dietec cool. Thanks!
Hey there. I'm just wondering if you are going to make a tutorial on PC modding without the use of any power tools. Nice back plate by the way.
I could do something similar at some point
Thats awesome cause I do not own and use any power tools for my PSU cover mod.
hey i have a problem with one of my fans on my gpu. It is an rx 480 8gb oc. all the fans work well except for this one ( the one on the way right) do u know a place where i can fix it; i live in socal
Definitely can't help ya without it being right in front of me, sorry man :P
are you sure that they don't spin separately? it may be spinning slower because its function is to cool the vrm or something.
I never heard of such a function on a GPU. I guess the fan is obviously broken. Just contact the manufacturer for RMA
There are GPUs with asynchronous fans, but probably not this one, unless you can confirm by stress testing to make them both spin.
great jobe man keep it up
nice job.
Amazing
Awesome vid 👍😃
How much it took to do?
And how much did you spend on it?
I love this chanel so much ~!
thank you very nice and interesting
good job
Support Cryorig H5 universal ?
can you do a vertical gpu mod on this case?
Can i change the led of the panel?
What went in between the vinyl tape and the acrylic right behind the logo?
Just a piece of printer paper, so the vinyl wouldn't stick in that spot
Would there be any issues with heat with printer paper?
+William Will It would curl up a bit after being heated up but the vinyl on top will prevent that from happening
And he is still using Intel CPUs. I like this. Against those mainstream AMD users
Kommentierer How is being mainstream bad if you're saving money for the same product? Lmao
It was kind of a waste to do all that work on the fan side of the Video Card, Unless they plan to do a 90 degree set up. It just won't be seen. Good work overall-and I know it's usually what the customer wanted.
is there a specific tape you use when spray painting on it
Just frog tape or vinyl!
Why did you use an H7 on a cpu and motherboard that can't overclock?
Aesthetics, same reason I do anything ever :D
Ohh. Good point.
JayzTwoCents who?
That 1060´s sexy!
how about a vertical gpu?
Well the whole chip will have plenty of paste now! Right?
Hey, is it safe to paint the rams like that? I got the gskill ripjaw iv.
Also, I got some rustoleum flat white that I'm planning to paint my gpu and rams with. Is it peelable? Only asking since I saw you're using rustoleum too.
It's totally safe, and no it won't peel off ;)
So would plastidip be a better choice then? I heard it peels off.
its awesome
Really enjoy the mod, but holy thermal paste flying spaghetti monster that is too much...
👍👍
Hey i wanted to ask if anyone knows how he does or gets the InWin Sticker at 7:35
+XxLPNanoxX I use a silhouette vinyl cutter
Ty very much
He look like penguin in gotham
+azril asyraf You look like penguin in gotham
How much would u charge me to build me a computer like that in the video
This card has a backplate on the inside but not the outside
that backplate
Duude, cable sleeves or extensions!
Hey dietec. I also want to make a rgb backplate but i dont know how. I see in the description that you want to make yours better. Go to the channel (jeffrey mays) there is an tutorial but i didnt get what and how he placer the led and such. Can you also make a tutorial of how to make a led backplate
+Jeffrey Boellaard I've seen that video actually. He used a laser cutter which I don't have access to, so I'm trying to find a way to make a great looking backplate with more affordable tools. As soon as I find the best way to do it, I'll definitely make a tutorial
You dont have to use the laser cutter. You can use the things you now use to cut acrylic but you need some sort of reflector i saw in that video. If you are going to make a tutorial plz do close shots of how you do it and not from a distance
+Jeffrey Boellaard Sure thing, I'll be as thorough as possible!
how much is it for a pc case mod
It varies. Been doing them for $900 lately, but when I get better at more techniques I'll charge more.
so about £750
Really nice mod, however painting GPU front was waste of time in my opinion.
I R8 8/8 M8
RIP lifetime warranties
sorry buddy i am late
What is that green paper ?
+Huffle Puff Frog tape!
Love the frog tape cause everyone sells it. Even walmart. So if you need it immediately you can always get it. Heard there is even better stuff but its mostly online so can't really be bothered with it. I've found the blue painters tape is awful for spray cans. I use it mostly to hold things while I'm soldering cause it leaves to residue. Or if I had to mask off a large section I just use the Frog tape on the outside where the paints will meet and use the blue stuff on the inside just to protect from overspray/wind/dust/etc. And I still need normal every day masking tape for other non painting tasks. But I try to pick that up from the Dollar Store sometimes they even have the blue paint there.
all of the Tutorials please !!!
