gini - So Far Away (demo) | voice memos - 1

A new series I'd like to start is releasing old demos of mine and see if you guys would like any to be released as a fully produced version.
This is the demo for my latest song 'So Far Away' and it was recorded on July 29, 2022. It was called 'Rana's Song'.

'I come from a Defence background, with my father being a fighter pilot, and this is a fact that isn’t very well known amongst the people who have heard my music, especially my song ‘falling asleep’, but it is an important piece of information for context. The story behind ‘falling asleep’, and many more songs I want you to hear...
In 2021, there were 5 Mig-21 aircraft that crashed.
Two of these were from the squadron we were posted at, and one of them was my father. My father ejected safely in January, but in May, one pilot did not.
His name was Abby.'
'So I sat down at my piano, wrote and composed ‘falling asleep’. It was a response, an affirmation of the person’s presence, even if they weren’t there.
It was what I imagined Abby would say to his wife when she would stay up through the night, every night, for the coming week. It was a song for her, from Abby.'
'10 pm, 28 July, 2022
Yesterday, another Mig-21 crashed in Barmer. We knew one of the pilots. He was there in the room when I sang for Abby. He was there. But now he isn’t.
We miss them, but I’d like to think of them playing foosball together like they did when we went to the squadron one day in spring.'
The last pilot mentioned was Rana. And 'So far Away' is Rana's song, his daughter's song, Bal's song, and a song for all the brave ones we've loved and lost.
