The reason I dont use the weapon isnt because I think its bad or dont like it, but rather I just dont play ultrakill. Got this in recommendations for some reason.
I think people underestimate how good the firestarter is due to it not being as flashy and visceral as other crowd clear options like the jumpstart or core nukes. It actually puts in a lot of work behind the scenes. Its usually not whats killing everything on screen, but rather making everything on screen way more killable.
i'd reckon the firestarter is actually quite flashy personally, can't tell me setting the whole arena ablaze doesn't look cool as shit. but yeah the damage isn't exactly spontaneous such as nukes, jumpstarts, fups, etc. but it will do some damn good damage given you cover the arena in oil
The firestarter is really underrated. I use it all the time as the first rocket in slot and its really good for the many reasons you mentioned. Its pretty good too when you get sent into orbit (happens a lot if you use the jackhammer) and you cant do much there, but the firestarter works wonders as a rain of gasoline. Great video with good arguments
Biggest con: makes your game lag post wave 50-60 on cg Coz this in cg you can just spray it everywhere between the waves for free damage lmao, comes at the cost of frames 😥
It took me some warming up to include the Firestarter into my gameplay & its an actual game-changer. In a game where you can clear rooms as fast as possible, the Firestarter is like a particle accelerator
Firestarter is my main rocket launcher. I use it not for clearing large areas but for shooting a tiny bit of a oil and a rocket in very quick succession to be able to attack with rockets at rocket resistant enemies. Plus the damage over time is really useful while you focus on other enemies
Personally I use the firestarter plenty, it's especially good for big bosses because of how the voxel system works. Spread the oil all over them and it does massive damage.
I put firestarter as my first slot on the rocket launcher as soon as I bought it lol, the utility of being able to start spraying as soon as I quickswitch to the rocket launcher is better than starting on freezeframe imo, especially since I usually whiplash to rocket ride anyway; though I’ve never tried making a lake of fire by oiling up the arena and core nuking
I use this thing plenty. Good when waiting between waves to throw gas down on the most traveled-through area of the map. Also great against Insurrectionists, as they take a ton of bonus damage when on fire and keeping it lit is really beneficial
Instaflaming rockets with firestarter is some of the most useful tech in the game, cuz it negates the main flaw with rocket launcher's primary fire (that the rocket needs to connect to deal damage). Paired with pboosting or jackhammer cores it can make for some crazy and consistent dps
I defiantly agree, I basically completely ignored it for hundreds of hours because i thought it was kinda mid compared to its counterparts but I started playing a randomizer for the game and that made me realize just how good it can be in certain situations. ESPECIALLY if you dont have the malicious rail + core eject or saw launcher yet in a run
I tested it out, and core nukes don’t light oil on fire for some reason. I don’t know why it does that cause I set off the nuke as close to the oil as I could and it still didn’t work. Edit: I tried it again and I think that only the small yellow core of the nuke sets off the oil.
For me personally, i dont use it because i just cant be asked to relearn my rocket launcher muscle memory. Even though it hurts me to know that im missing out on a big damage boost.
I never thought about how useful the firestater could be for crowd crontrol, but it's still pretty likely for me to not used it that much because I still struggle with the controls, in other words; I just have a skill issue.
Also if you're a hammer junkie like me you can grenade boost a rocket to achieve the same effect as a core nuke, just with less damage and not a red explosion, this will do the trick though.
FireStarter is literally the meta for doing Brutal rn bcz you can spread the oil on multiple enemies and burns tham in seconds, and it just isnt a Doom-like game without a weapon that can make literal flames
I used to use it before they nerfed it’s underwater abilities. While it did need a nerf, reducing the number of explosions makes it feel so weak (it has a far weaker controller vibration now and is quieter due to there being half as many explosions, weak feedback makes it feel like it barely did anything). I still think they should have halved the explosion damage rather than halve the number of explosions. Anyways, while I agree that it could be strong if used correctly, and there are definitely people that will use it well, it doesn’t really fit with my playstyle that well unfortunately. I usually only use rocket launchers for drones, sometimes cerberus, or punching the cannonball at something, and also never rocket ride (would be stuck in the fire) or core nuke. Good video though, hope it convinces more people who can fit this into their playstyle to try using it
I don't use the firestarter because it encourages a playstyle of staying off the arena, out of the action. I don't care if it's more beneficial, I also don't like DOT, I love the jumpstarter, or conduction bonuses in general more, because instead of dealing the damage over time, it charges a giant electric current to blast anything conductive INSTANTLY dealing a ton of damage. It's why I don't mind the jackhammer, it fits perfectly with "staying near the enemies" and "high damage all at once". This is why I neglect it, and continue to.
I dont use it because why would i? Time in UK is almost a defined resource, similar to health and defined by it, so, the more time you have, the better combo you can do, my personal favourite is a triple magnet kickstart overheat nail spam. The electricity travels across magnets and the 2 overheats can kill guttermen and tanks and boosting the damage significantly. I dont use the firestarter because it takes a bit less time for a lot less effect, and also, its hecka unreliable, a swordsmachine can run away from the fire or instantly die to the Kickstarter, the choice you take though is yours
I tend to use it just for oiling up a single, strong enemy for extra damage, but i didn't know it that you only get half damage from covering comeone instead of putting it on the floor, and i p-ranked the whole game on brutal thanks dude
I use this like everytime in a cybergrind, when there's a gutterman i knuckleblast his shield and start burning him alive, and works really well for sentries
I thought it was proven that the firestarter doesn't deal extra damage? The extra damage comes from the fire, not by increasing the damage taken. Hakita himself said that he didn't want to make it do the extra damage thing because it would make optimal gameplay not as fun
people genuinely sleep on this weapon a lot, but i cant blame them since i used to as well, but since running nails ive relied on this a lot for my AOE besides explosions, and it does absolutely great at it too. i can even just pull it out in quickswap combos randomly (fs on one lol) and just overall this weapon genuinely is just free ass damage, and i love it
I have a neat idea to buff the fire-starter, what if the fire trail would spread to blood stains? (Given it would be limited so cybergrind players couldnt just light the entire world on fire.)
Personally I just don't like the idea of accidentally flying through the flames when I'm at 10 HP and combusting. The thing kind of encourages you to empty the entire tank into a room and that's a LOT of stage hazards you're making there.
ive heard burning enemies from the firestarter also have their damage intake increased to 150%, is this true?? I've used this to my advantage in bosses, and it seems like it is true. It could just be placebo effect playing tricks on me though
You should have emphesized the fact that enemies that are burning from the firestarter take increased damage overall, making it an excellent weapon to switch to every now and then with high healt targets to apply a free damage multiplier upon said target.
