    Thank you for this. I could not find a good tutorial and I really don't want to pay a dealership or shop to do it

    Thank you for showing me this. I took out the camshafts before measuring and couldn’t figure how to put the camshafts back. All the 16 valves were out of spec by minimum of .010.

      Don't feel bad.. Mines all were off spec.. but the exact numbers. Whoever owned it before me had a aftermarket cam tensioner...but all my number came back evenly matched (even off spec).. strange huh?

    Awesome work 👏 and I know the struggle.
    I remember thinking that my throttle body also should "pop right off"..
    I'm going to service the swingarm 🔧 and attempt to cover as well as you did here.
    Keep up!

    Those 2 cam marks are supposed to face each other directly on the second rotations after initial tdc setting. Just an fyi guys cuz it.might affect ur numbers

    Service manual says to retract and lock the tensioner before rotating engine to check the valves. Is there a reason you don’t do that? Just trying to understand thanks. I was told to not rotate the engine when the tensioner isn’t applying tension so I don’t really understand the manual either.

      I've never heard of that, nor read anything like that. So I'm not sure. You just need to be careful rotating the engine by hand so the cam chain doesnt bind up on the crankshaft gear.

      Haynes manuals say that, but doesn't make sense, does it?!

    • @QuantumMotorWorks
      @QuantumMotorWorks  10 місяців тому +1

      @@anthonyarnold5008 if you retract and lock the cam chain tensioner then proceed to rotate the engine, it's going to jump time. I'm assuming your misintepretating the operation in the service manual, because that's not how you work on engines.

    • @anthonyarnold5008
      @anthonyarnold5008 10 місяців тому

      Haynes say the same for cbr6, cbr1000 and vfr800, they do mess up a fair bit hey?!!

    • @QuantumMotorWorks
      @QuantumMotorWorks  10 місяців тому +1

      @@anthonyarnold5008 all those models use the same timing procedures if I'm not mistaken. I'm just confused on the locking and retracting the cam chain tensioner quote. The only time I remove the cam chain tensioner is only after I've checked all the clearances, and I have the cams set into position for removal. Never take out the tensioner as a procedure for checking valve clearance, your gonna rotate the engine and mess it up.

    top bloke for posting this video. should mpg improve after fixing the clearances? thank you

    • @QuantumMotorWorks
      @QuantumMotorWorks  2 роки тому

      I couldn't see a huge increase in mpg to be honest, although the bike always runs better after a valve adjustment if it needed it.
