Love my scotts elite spreader. Used a mini for years but switched to the elite 2 years ago and havent looked back. Now my old mini is the dedicated salt spreader for the wintertime
Hah! Thanks brotha. Sadly still on a MFT camera.Just shot a lot of it on a long focal length. One day I’ll get a full frame. your shots always look juicy on that full frame with good lighting.
I have had my Elite for about 3 years now. Scott's shows the calibration for their Halts, Weed and Feed, Fall Fertilizer, and Winterguard to all be set to 3.5. Do yourself a favor and check your own product for proper settings. Also the early models had longer agitator pins which extended over the holes and helped break up any small clumps that got stick. They changed to shorter pins because people were dispensing rock salt and it was getting caught in the openings, catching the agitator pins, and breaking the drive. If you are dispensing rock salt the short pins are okay but my Elite works so much better with longer pins I got from Earthway for an Anderson's spreader. It will never replace my vintage 1964 Scott's drop spreader but for a modern unit it has been working well. Bill
Best spreader I've used. I imagine the more expensive ones are even better but i do a combo of liquid and granular and wasn't comfortable sinking 3 bills into a spreader.
Thanks for this informative video! Just got mine delivered from Home Depot yesterday. It was $139 plus $9 delivery, then the store manager knocked off $50 because clearly it had been out in lawn and garden a long time and had a rat nesting in it at one point. Box was full of rat droppings and the literature was chewed up. But I put gloves on and found all the parts and was able to get it put together and functioning. Maybe I should have spread the droppings on my lawn for fertilization? Anyhow, excited to take it out for a spin this weekend.
@@theperfectcutlawncare I'm coming from an Edgeguard Mini that the neighbor left out for trash pickup when she moved out so in comparison this will be like a Cadillac spreader. 😁
If you’re using the Scott’s Elite spreader, and you’re activating the edge guard on it, which decreases the amount of product on the right side and you end up when you’re completely finished with less product on the left as you do the right that simply because you restricted the flow of product on that side
Definitely the best of all Scott spreaders. I ended up selling mine and switching to Lesco though. Got sick of the hopper having a left and right side, where an uneven amount of product would be on each side every single time.
Uneven product left in both hoppers is also the reason why I returned my Scotts Elite couple of years ago. I personally think the Mini and DLX are the best spreaders except for their major issue of impeller sitting below the wheels, which causes an uneven distribution of application. I even bought the new 2020 redesign of Scotts Mini that supposedly fixes the fertilizer being thrown into wheels issue, but it still left stripes. So now, I have to get a better spreader. My options are between Scotts Elite, EarthWay 2600, and the Echo RB60. All three have their own issues. But leaning towards Scotts Elite and buying more fertilizer than needed so that one or two pounds of it gets left over in the hopper after finishing.
Pretty nice review and kind comments as always! I've been using the Elite Spreader for about 2+ years, back from when it was $99. Just my 2 cents- It works extremely well when spreading Scotts products at their bag rates, based off results I get and not how much product I measured for the area. It's also good when it comes to broadcast spreading seed- it spreads evenly, though I weigh the seed and spread it in multiple passes while changing the dial on the fly until I'm ok with how the spread appears. When it comes to slower release fertilizers with multiple size granule sizes (like a Lesco 40-0-10 or whatever w/ Iron)...or even an Andersons amendment product, you really need to either calibrate for the product or just get comfortable with spreading while adjusting the dial on the fly. And also adjusting the apertures by measuring granule size instead of the bag setting that a competitor suggests a Scotts spreader. I also noticed that if there is any type of moisture present, those Andersons products will immediately break down and clog some of the openings, and even do salt-bridging in the funnels. The spinner fins also end up caking with DG residue, which causes the spread pattern to change. That all said, this is pretty much the best built spreader to can get before getting into those $300+ professional spreaders. You just need spray it and clean it out with a flat tip screw driver to keep it in tip top shape.
That’s good to hear about the seed. 👍🏽edgegaurd was horrible for that. As you said it seems competitive with a more expensive one, seems low maintenance and gets the job done. Thanks for watching and sharing.
Where do I get Pure Tall Fescue Seed? Any recommendations please. I am preparing for fall reseeding/overseeding for our lawn. Your videos are informative. Thank you
I just got this and found it has a locking mechanism to keep the chutes open, but it doesn't seem to work. You are supposed to pull the release handle back and then lock it. Has anyone been able to get this feature to work?
I had an Scott’s elite and I am sorry to say it was garbage. It won’t hold up. The doors did not open consistently when there was a lot of material in the hopper and the edge guard action broke after 1 year. I had it 2 seasons and it has now been delivered to the dump.
Man you hit the nail on the head when you said Agri-Fab spreaders are time consuming to put together ‼️ Plus, their customer service is a JOKE‼️I had my Agri-Fab spreader for less than two years and it broke down. I called the customer service/support phone number and this lady started SCREAMING at me, because I was asking to many questions and wouldn’t let her talk. This is a ‼️TRUE STORY‼️ not made-up. ‼️STAY AWAY FROM AGRI-FAB‼️

Nice. Happy with it so far! Looks like I’ll be using the mini for salt as well 👍🏽
I was wondering what to do with my old DLX spreader.
Brooooo awesome video dude!
Watch out hollywood the perfect cut is coming!
Did you get a fullframe camera? something looks different

Agree. It gets the job done well. Can’t see a $400 spreader being 4 times better.

That’s good! For the price point it works great. Blows the Scott’s Edgegaurd away. Eliminated striping of the grass and can unload quickly. Enjoy!

Is there a list someone for spreader settings based on size or products that don't come from Scotts?

Thank you, I’d look at Twin City Seed Company.

Too bad, I can believe it. You’re not the first to report that. We’ll see what happens
