So strange seeing someone go crazy on an MGB, here in the UK the crazy builds are usually reserved for JDM cars and old Fords - MGB owners here tend to be a bit more... Traditional 😅
same in the US, it's time for a change lol
@@BUILTOFFICIAL I'm all for it, it's just a shame it's not a slightly older MG as my dad is a specialist in restoring the lever arm dampers!
Great job! You're doing what I 'hope' to next summer. I'll be watching...
This MGA Build is becoming a badass car it reminds me of a Porsche. I saw the video and the wide fenders are from a Porsche. 😎
love this build man
Thanks dude!
And some resin when mixing your fibreglass filler goes on like butter nice and smooth
Finally found you! I used to watch you back in the day and I lost you account!
Id love to see you make a mold just to get your perspective on how to do it. Frankly this entire process for fiberglassing is cool to watch just to see how YOU came up with a way to do it. I think making a mold for like the rear fender would be alot of fun to watch
MG GT RWB. I'm loving the Rauh Welt look ur going for. At first I thought nah, but now I'm like yeah cool especially with the shape of the car
dude youve come so far!! congratulations on your success! I remember the very first front bumper mod vid you made. this compared to that is nuts!!!!!!!!!! your killin it dude! keep it up!!
Fkn love it!! You pick all the cars I wanna build too! Plus you're a great dad. Love the channel. Thanks!
brother. thank you for making these builds, im planning to build mine some day too. your work will always be one of the most inspirational
All the hard work you’ve put in on all your past projects is really showing on this build! Great work .
dude that means so much thanks!
I agree with this comment! You can tell
You will make look good i have faith in you bro its looking good 👍
Looking really good man, love how I can start to see the finished product.
Good job. Dollar store foam core board works as well.
I made a comment about the headlight buckets in the last video, I like the change you made. But I am leaving w comment here too: maybe you should put the hood on the car and see if the design matches?? and also when you made the mold, isn't it better to put a flat piece of wood or aluminum to support the fiber glass, it will have less waviness!
Disclaimer: I am not an fab or composite expert, I am a software engineer passionate by cars! I really would like to start on a project car like this...
18:22 You only need to question your abilities if you quit. If you're still trying, you're still learning, nothing to question. :)
This bloke really puts in the hours! Also interesting to see how the fibreglass work turns out as it's unusual to see in a rebuild.
I am new to your channel and I already watched like 3 of them already! Good content💣💣
Haunters hint:
After you remove the fiberglass mold, spray a release agent on the inside then fiberglass the inside, let dry, then separate. Wash, rinse, repeat, It should fit as it is a "mold" of the outer layer.
You can use some foamboard or coroplast instead of cardboard.
Hey man, really enjoying this build. Have you thought about building the front in sections and then join them after they dry? It might be easier to work and less chance of it flexing and warping.
Personally I thought the same about the headlights. But after seeing the change. I have to say the original shape was a lot better.
This is going to be amazing
Looks dope bro keep up the good work.
Great build!
looks good. I can see the design working well. I just feel like there must be a more streamlined and quicker method out there to guarantee you perfect body lines the first time... regardless, keep it up. I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
There is and he said they take up too much space
Would you want to give your front grille a 240Z look? Long top to bottom length look?
isnt the headlights gonna hit the bumper now that you raised it?
did you make a video on making a mold
better use poly foam. theyre easier to form
Finish the fiberglass off and make a mold off of it. That way it doesnt weigh a ton
Brah 😎👍
Leave the bumper on the car and bondo it so it can come out smooth
Bad ass man
Nice
i hate fiberglass. Doesnt have the patience to do that kind of work.. good job !
If I sent you a design could you bring it to life?
i think pull a carbon bumper out of it
ref com 🤜💪
I believe in you!! Lol
My guy, I would seriously encourage you watch some videos about how people make carbon fiber parts. The whole process is interchangeable with any kind of weave, whether it's carbon, fiber glass, or kevlar. But they'll show you how to make a mold for your parts and stuff. That way you can do a resin infusion and get thinner parts with less resin, to save weight. Having a mold is good too so you can make more parts later. No hate, but your methods are not something I would encourage anyone to follow
Yeah I'm going to look into this once this bumper is finished. Gotta have a piece to pull a mold off of. I talked with street banditos about their carbon 240z and I could do that but the price of cf makes me sweat lol
Россия ждет конечного результата ;)
Ещё как ждёт!
Wouldn't it be easier to build up in the clay or whatever to get the surface and edges smooth and consistent and lay over the fiberglass to make a mold. Your losing the strength by sanding your contour when you could already have it and just lay the glass into the mold.
Do you use a new brush every time you lay glass and resin? Also awesome video dude
You would need a new brush for every time you mix resin as it's rock hard when cured
Oh dear! What would Bill say??
Go checkout WJP004 channel for REAL fibreglass how to.
Thank you for posting these videos, the information is AWESOME
Ngl kinda reminds me of a 240z
The headlights for the 240z remind a lot of people of early Ferarris. That style was used a lot in the 60's and 70's.
Well the 240z was designed to compete against the MGB GT because it was such a success, soo makes sense they look similar
I don't know if you seen the renders on Instagram but that's exactly what I thought
@@karlmiller3623 i believe the mgb was the model used for the datsun platform, i also heard that some heads from the datsun can be installed on certain mg blocks for power gains. post war rebuild treaties and such.
yeah the recessed headlight and long hood have a z car look for sure
MUCH BETTER with the change to the headlight coves. Well done.
I agree 👍
Thanks man! The comment section/ig dm's really helped me figure out how to do it
I'm involved in a similar project. Widebody mercedes r129. Been sanding down that fiberglass filler every day and I know how itchy it can be. Coming out great. Can't wait to see the end.
Definitely should be looking into better fiberglass system man. Try something like West Systems. No mask needed, significant longer work time, and has a pump to mix perfect amounts
Yeah If I decide to pull molds off this we will def be upgrading the materials.. didn't know west systems didn't require a mask thats awesome
@@BUILTOFFICIAL Last time I used it anyway. It had no fumes or smell really. Was a dream compared to the other stuff
Man I give you props! I hate working with fiberglass
This thing is going to look so dope. Can't wait to see the end result!
I'm stoked for it
Kaleb, do you have fiberglass rollers? I think those would help you alot, and reduce the amount of body filler you need. Body filler can be shaped before it's fully cured, and sanded after it fully cures. If you use good body filler (like Rage Gold) it sands very easily. You can also add things to the filler to make it sand easier, I'll edit this comment if I remember what their called. They're little balls of air, basically.
I never have been a massive fan of widebody cars till I found this channel. I have always been a truck and muscle car guy. I still love trucks and muscle cars and prefer them but boy would I love to own a Datsun 620 or Datsun 240z! I like these builds more I prefer just the fender flares and stuff like this over rocket bunny bc rocket bunny is just to much for me. Thanks for giving me a new understanding of wide bodys!!
Hey Kaleb! have you ever tried using FRP plastic sheets (4'x8') and cutting them to the sizes you need? And then bond those pieces together with fiberglass + resin. They're fairly cheap in comparison to ABS plastic and are rugged but still bendable like ABS plastic. They're also easily obtainable from most hardware stores as they're meant to be used as a durable waterproof wall covering.
I'm planning on making custom bumpers for my e30, and that's the method I was gonna try. Dunno how well it'll work yet, but just an idea that might be better for those long sections to avoid waviness.
I thought I was gonna be the first widebody mg on UA-cam haha I’m exited to see this thing. If you wanna check out what I had planned check out my Instagram s14_guy love the build man :)
I thought that you were pretty good at this until I saw what you did with the fiberglass portion of this build. First of all, PVA!! Polyvinyl Alcohol is a water soluble release that you could have put over the clay. Brush on or spray on, spray on you could spray multiple coats. Then you started in on the fiberglass…. So many things wrong there I don’t have enough space to go through it all. You made it harder than it needed to be.
Learn about peel ply, your life will be easier….
Check out Street Bandito, they use carbon fiber and build their own stuff. They have a really nice 240z Datsun build fully carbon. I liked your video too.
A small hindsight, I would have recommended that you should have laid fiberglass on the paper bumper directly. Prop makers who make pepakura helmets (paper crafted helmets), fiberglass the paper and the paper actually absorbs the resin while holding its shape. Then lay the fiberglass fabric or chops after.
My Porsche 944 project is stalled because I messed up a bolt hole and need to fix it. This guy is literally building a custom front end from scratch.....
I know this was a LONG time ago, but with the top layer, did you add wax to stop it from being sticky when it cured? I'm just about to skin my plywood wing and just wanted to work out if I need a flowcoat or not on top
There is another UA-camr that does body work, he uses something he calls Rondo, spraywaycustoms I believe. He uses it on top of his fiberglass work and the results are very nice. Check him out, might be something you can use on your custom pieces like that sweet bumper.
Dang I envy you, this is a ton of work. I’ve been working on my R32 to R34 conversion front fenders and I had to take 6 months off from them. Lol
Just an honest question: Why do you prefer using fibreglass filler in stead of Bondo? Pro's and cons?
Hi caleb, realy enjoying your content. Im product Designer and i trinken it World be a cool idea to create a community design contest to get ideas for the shape of your builds.
Greetings from Germany
If you havent seen it already I can recommend the channel wjp004 for good how to info on these kind of fibre glass jobs.
Try using a product called plastcore for your long flat areas. It makes a flat surface to glass. Check out the way Stealthcraft boats are built.
Why dont u use plastic foil instead of aluminum foil? It bends and stretches better, and i know it stiks to ceramic realy well so it should stic to clay? Tape stics to it well and its pretty waterproof
@BUILTOFFICIAL: find Mike Patey
I just wonder if the headlight buckets might create a weird shadow below them and not project down well.
hey man!! great job..you should copy in the bumper the down hill in the nouse of the hood,
You’re in Alabama...where’s the duct tape?
Maybe you can make a very small air vent on those gaps between the headlights and the bumper.
is good that you push your self to do something that make you question your abilities, otherwise if stay in comfort zone we would never improve ourselves! Nice job Kaleb
The area under the headlights is different from side to side. Flat on passenger side and angled on driver side.
If you make molds, then yoi jave a potential to sell widebody kits and make a name for yourself at sema
You should build a vacuum form then you could bondo it and replicate it easily
Yep, it was Droopy Dog. Just found your channel and I have to give it two thumbs up. Loved the Doug Demuro imitation on another vid by the way. I want to be like you.
haha thanks Steve! Just google droopy dog thats the one
Maybe you should try a body kit from 240 Z Nissan
Would you try making body panels from carbon fiber one day?
Much better on the headlight buckets. It flows so much smoother
You almost gave it a Rocket bunny front bumper look
Yo you down with Droopy D..... Cartoon Network throwback
Is this the fiberglass plug? or the final molding?
I really enjoyed this thorough video
Thanks
You should introduce all the new tools like that. Plop work smarter not harder
i think making a mold would be super cool
dude. i have 35” tires. i’m not gay
The dogs name was droopy!
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Droopy it sure was!
Bugeye WRX front end lol it looks great
Dude she look like Datsun Nissan 240 Z
You should have used the csm first before the cloth
It’s Droopy! “Hello all you happy people...”
better background noise then most but not needed,
Love this build but where is the fatsun?
danng !! I wish I found your channel sooner, extremely interesting and very usefull info. awesome build! 🤘😀🤘
liking the new upload schedule!
Will there be fog lights on the bumper?
@Built Official you forgot one step is to reinforce the form before removing, so it won't lose its shape. I have a video showing this step. 2:15 ua-cam.com/video/rRObvFGJ58o/v-deo.html
