My son was (still is) a huge tank enthusiast growing up. He had his dinosaur phase, like most kids, but grew out of it into tanks... and never, ever, grew out of that phase. He couldn't tell me who won at Agincourt, but would whip out the milimeter thickness of the driver side right flank armor plate of the 3rd variant of a particular tank that served in 42-43 but was discontinued while the next upgrade had 5 more millimeters of armor to that location. Imagine my... exasperation trying to get him through high school. But. for his 18th Birthday, we took him to Tank Town, and he had the time of his life. They were awesome. He loved EVERY minute. And he's had that same T-Shirt *My thereapist is a Tank" for at least 7 years now, and it''ll be threadbare and moth eaten well before the smile on his face fades from his experience there One of the best moments of his life, better than a "disney" trip, honestly, and they were so awesome at Tank Town for him. ... The mud makes it look more fun, no lie.
Yup.... having spent years driving a 113A3 over everything or through everything- in front of me as fast as I could...it is a LOT of fun. Power brake it to spool the turbo...and hold on. Don't be afraid to get it airborne... I wasn't. Yea- I spent plenty of hours replacing broken track / road wheels / and an occasional shock. If I ever win the lottery- I'm buying my own.
It is a APC because, as the names says, designed to transport personnel across the battlefield. Just to protect personnel from shrapnel and gunfire up to about 20mm. There are APC's with big guns on it, not always good idea. Because the driver and gunner have tendency to start acting like it is a tank when they got a big gun. Which is very problematic when you have 5 to 7 soldiers in it and it is hit by a RPG or a AT-round. A tank will never have space to transport troops.
@@F-16FightingFalcon The M113 is built out of aluminum and only generally weighs around 10 tons. Tanks weigh 4 to 5 times as much. The aluminum hull can generally withstand rifle rounds, but a 50cal can penetrate. Anything shot from a 'big' gun will destroy an APC. They were designed to move a 10 man squad of infantry into forward lines at a fast pace, usually armed with either twin .30's or a single .50. Some had turrets with 'big' guns, but I never got to drive one of those in my career. Lots of fun though!
a tank by definition has a direct fire main weapon and a coaxial machinegun.. that second thing is weirdly key. thats why mobile artillery, even in fully traversable turrets isnt a tank.
When I was doing my M113 drivers course back in 1977, we had found a location in the bush with a half dozen abandoned vehicles. Needless to say, they suffered the same fate of the cars in this video, until we found a car a few hundred yards away. As we approached this vehicle getting ready to flatten it, a young couple quickly climbed out trying to throw on some clothes. Very embarrassed, but also but still alive, they sheepishly drove back to town in their undamaged car.
I did something similar back in the day with a Microsoft Office demo CD and a drill. When I got a blue screen, the CD got a few more holes in it. Once a friend of mine came over to borrow the drill and was a lot calmer when he left. Creative, controlled destruction is always therapeutic.
LUCKY!!! Ever since Iclimbed on an old Patton tank at a kids playground in the 60's (remember they had tanks and jets for kids to crawl on) I've wanted to try that.
Mike, I drove an M60A1 tank in the Army. Many friends asked "Why choose that. You can't use those skills in the outside world?" My reply, "That's exactly why I chose that. Not only can I not use the skills in the outside world. But, the Army will pay me to do it!"
I'm glad you acknowledged that the APC is an APC and not a tank. Otherwise I'd've been hollering at the screen the whole time. Calling an APC a tank is like calling a Gulfstream a fighter. 🙂
Its a usually highly restricted vehicle doing things that are usually highly illegal. Its also, for people like me, a dream to drive military vehicles. Its why the game gta works
That looks so fun Mike Row! Mike Row there is a place in Las Vegas where you can let your inner boy out and go play with heavy construction machines. .PS. Please go check that place out thank you always will be a fan of dity jobs!
Hey, Mike? I just wanted to thank you for giving me some of the greatest advice I ever received in my life. Not directly, of course... you were giving the keynote speech at the 2010 Jamboree (which, side note, had been rescheduled specifically to coincide with BSA's 100th anniversary). A scout is clean, but not afraid to get dirty... been living by that ever since. I made eagle just under 6 years later, and while my career hasn't been the most stable or glamorous, those words remind me not to be afraid to get my boots dirty on a daily basis. If you ever wanna spend a day riding along in the big truck, my right seat's always open to you
It’s been my observation of the human nature of men includes the desire to control things and jobs that are more powerful than they are alone. Some examples are powerful vehicles, arms, machines, careers that enable, teams and armies.
Mike! You are The Best! That really looked like great FUN! Muddy? What mud. That’s a healthy amount of salve for the soul. I look forward for to more viewing fun.
This reminds me of when a meth addled guy stole a tank from our San Diego guard armory and took it for a joyride around town, crushing cars and trying to knock down an overhead pedestrian bridge, before being incapacitated by SDPD on CA163. Before that I had always wondered what our M60A3 would do to vehicles.
When I was in the Army stationed at Fort Bliss, I was in the 3d Armored Cavalry Regiment and we had M1A2 tanks. Many car thieves abandoned stolen cars in the desert after stripping them for parts. It was sort of a thing for tank drivers to flatten those cars. That was in the mid-80's.
About 1:37: Did this in 2007 in Winchester, UK. Rolled over a car with a British Chieftain MBT. Had a major blast (emotionally...). Highly recommended, especially if you're tired of the daily grind to/from work. I paid extra to get a video of it.
Good old 432, still has the Rolls-Royce K60 engine in it. Used to work on these vehicles every day. Fun fact- it's a 6 cylinder engine but has 12 pistons.
Whoo hoo! This was super. I get it. The Flying Heritage and Combat Armor Museum had demos and I felt a little guilty enjoying the demo of smashing cars. You might check it out if you can't get to the east coast, you might explore Everett WA
Loved destroying stuff when I was a teen with my friends, old TV sets, cars and other crap we found in the trash...for fun. And YES, so incredibly therapeutic!! I'm goin' here for sure!!
How to explain it... well you know where there's a sand castle at a beach whether it's work of art or just a few bucket shapes worth of sand stacked up, and a kid kicks it or jumps on it and there's a look of pure joy on their face.... yeah it's kind of like that.
Hi Mike - ran across a UA-camr named Joe Franta, he is a merchant mariner who videos his journeys on the different ships he is hired too. Thought it was an interesting job that is (for me at least) a rare look behind the scenes. Might be a good podcast for you.
We need more Mike Rowe. More dirty jobs, more anything tbh. Dudes a national treasure.
You said it! This is where it's AT Bro..
100% I grew up watching Dirty Jobs and it instilled a strong sense of pride for my job

There was no story, no philosophical ending, no plot, and it was a damn good episode watching Mike just relax and have fun. 😊❤
Having driven over whole entire trees in those things, I know exactly how much fun Mike is having.

Mike is once again proving what differs a grown up from a kid is just the toy price tag. Look at his face of pure joy!
Mike Rowe is basically my Father at this point.
I started watching him when I was 10, now I'm 30.
Thank you for raising me.
I wanted to hear AAA's reaction to "and oh yeah, it accidentally got ran over by a tank..... 6 times" 😂😂😂
To be fair... AAA has heard it all. Farmer's only wishes they had the stories AAA has. AAA wishes Farmers had those stories too. :)
I wanted to see them actually show up.
I do appreciate your insistence on calling an APC an APC. Nothing can be a tank without a big gun on it to me.
not entirely true it's, more about the amour and being able to take rounds from other tanks

Rode on an M1A Abrams on a Boy Scout trip in the 90s. Super fun. Loud. Ran over trees. Awesome. It s a jet engine with tracks.
Gotta love America!
Where else on earth can you start a business like this
Glad to see another American carve out his own grove in life
Actually there are businesses like this in Ireland and Russia
I took my son there a couple of years ago. He drove a tank before he learned to drive a car! (Gen Z) Great fun and a truly nice guy running the place.
Mike's out here adding bucket list items I hadn't ever thought of, thank you sir!

Watching you two and especially the camera crew slogging through the mud was so much fun.
I was here a few years ago and got to send a Camry to become toasters. I also got to keep the Toyota emblem. Best Father's day ever.
Last time I got to play with M113 APCs was at FT Benning, GA in 1983. Lots of fun.
Tanks, therapy for a world weary mind. I'd love to do that. Tanks a lot! 🙂
I would bet that firing a main cannon is fantastic therapy. Just saying

The stepped up version of sledgehammers and office equipment. Awesome!
In the great scheme of things, the little boy inside still wants to wreck things.
I LOVE MIKE ROWE SO SO MUCH💕💕💕💕💕💕!!!
Tanks for the memories!. I will see myself out
They have that T-shirt, at least as of 7 years ago. And its as funny now, as it was then. "Tank you, i'll drive myself out" is another one. :)
Tanks for the great videos.
This is probably my most favorite episode ever!!!
