The idea that full grown adults regularly say, 'there's no point us reducing carbon emissions because China won't ', has always amazed me, in a bad way.
Hope that the news of China's progress can filter down to the masses here.
    Great vlog.

James, how great to hear that China is reducing their emissions at an excellent rate! The USA wants all of their polluting manufacturing done in China, but them expects China to make it all with out polluting!

In many places you are NOT ALLOWED to disconnect from the grid.
The grid needs to die for a myriad reasons. Not least of which is the cost, both financial and environmental, of the infrastructure. Without a grid scarring the landscape, the savings in materials and maintenance would be staggering. Then there's the fact that national security would be massively increased without a power grid that can be cut. No grid = no blackouts.
There are situations where micro-grids are unavoidable, but large power grids need to go away completely.

Those that say China are causing too much pollution are usually posting their comments from a device made in China. And a big part of the reason why China has polluted our planet so much, is because our manufacturing output was moved there. Great video. Always great to hear from you James.

Most European homes and businesses are not well insulated and not energy efficient.
An energy efficient home or business is more comfortable and saves money in the long run.
Solar energy on your roof combined with battery storage can make people more independent from the grid and natural gas supplies. Add solar and supplemental electric heating, infrared heating or a heat pump for home or business heating and cooling
All big box stores and manufacturing sites can support solar energy on their roofs or solar canopies on their parking lots.
Added insulation, double or triple glaze windows, energy efficient doors, energy efficient heating and cooling systems, energy efficient appliances, LED lighting, smart thermostats, solar panels combined with battery storage and a electric vehicle charger in the garage or car park. People are too focused on the short term costs and miss out on long term savings and comfort. Blower door testing and air sealing are under appreciated tools.Even if you have money to burn you should not waste it. Climate Change will impact everyone. Leave a better future for your children and grandchildren. Join in and speak up for the future of the planet

It never ceases to amaze me how obstinately short-sighted people are. There are zero downsides to electrification and energy independence, but people come up with the most incredibly self-defeating reasons not to do it. And NONE of those people actually do the math. They make false assumptions and accept the FUD without question.
If you can afford your current bills, you can afford solar and batteries. If you CAN'T afford your current bills, then you can't afford NOT to go solar. If you say otherwise, you're not actually doing the math.

James, are you considering a new or used Tesla? Your old Tesla is a “dinosaur” and the later models have gotten very inexpensive.

I have a 2017 Model S and there is zero chance I will ever trade it for a newer one. The directions Tesla are going are almost exclusively in the wrong direction. There is no longer an opening sunroof option, and I use mine all the time. The new controls (meaning the lack of physical, tactile controls for critical functions) are a deal-killer. The attempts to automate things that have no business being automated are horrid. I could go on at great length, but the bottom line is that Tesla has lost its way and success has gone to Musk's head. It's unlikely that I will ever buy another Tesla. I love my current one too much to give it up (in spite of the software that is nothing but detrimental), but the new ones don't interest me at all. My next vehicle will definitely not be a Tesla. (But I'm keeping this Model S until the wheels fall off.)

No I'm going to keep my "dinosaur" for as long as I can. It kind feels like a member of the family now and still drives very well (basically like it did when it was new).

@@JamesCookeVlogs however there are a multitude of energy saving features not to mention charging and drive ability upgrades that you are missing out on. Additionally you cannot communicate these next featuresto your followers.

Can one put solar panels on a thatched roof?

    • @JamesCookeVlogs
      @JamesCookeVlogs  9 місяців тому

In theory, not sure... But most if not all thatches are listed buildings and usually therefore in conservation area, which means whether it is protically possible doesn't matter, as you'd never get permission to do it anyway.
