  • XPR6550 vs XPR7550 Comparison.
    In this video I compare the Motorola MotoTRBO XPR6550 (DP3600 in Europe) to the XPR7550 (DP4800 in Europe) and discuss whether it is still worth buying the XPR6550 now that it's an old radio.
    The XPR6550 or DP3600 is a generation 1 radio which Motorola has now discontinued. The direct replacement for this is the XPR7550 or DP4800 which is a similar radio in the generation 2 MotoTRBO series, but there are some differences which I discuss in the video.
    The video where I did an audio demonstration, which is also pretty relevant to this video and you might want to watch: • Best starter DMR radio?

    Love your videos! Always extremely informative and well-presented! I have both of these radios and I like them both equally for different reasons. The build qualit9y is excellent on both.

    I love these vids because he gets right into the point. Btw, there's a vid about connecting a Zello radio (your phone with the app Zello) to a handheld radio. :D

    On the DP3600 what is the tone that plays immediately as it receives from the DP4800? I have the American version XPR6500 and can not find it in the CPS, I have the channel free indication tone enabled and no they they're not the same thing as one tells you when someone is talking and one tells you when the channel is free. Thanks!

      The call receive tone. Go into the CPS contacts section and for each group there is a checkbox to enable or disable it.

    Is the DP3600 dual band, VHF and UHF? And is it analog as well as Digital? Looking for a DMR scanner at the moment and can get these quite cheap now...

    • @radiosification
      @radiosification  7 років тому

      No it is only single band. There are currently no proper dual band DMR radios on the market, although soon there will be some coming out. The dual band DMR radios currently on the market are not proper DMR because they don't work for transmitting on repeaters.
      The DP3600 works fine for receiving but you need to know all the information first: groups, colour code and slot being used.

      Great, thanks for the info. Ive seen your video on the Baofeng DM5R Plus and know that it can't be used on Amateur repeaters, but I may be interested in one for a cheap dual band DMR scanner. Presumably it would do the job, albeit slowly?

    • @radiosification
      @radiosification  7 років тому

      As long as you don't want to transmit on repeaters, it will do the job fine. Scanning speed will be slower than a proper scanner, and there is a limited number of channels in the scan list. Usually it is 16, I don't know for the DM-5R but I would guess it's the same. If you want to check you can download the software for free from somewhere online and try it

    what is the mile range for the XPR7550e

    • @radiosification
      @radiosification  7 років тому +4

      There is no mile range for any radio. As with every radio it varies massively on a large number of factors including terrain, weather, how you hold the radio, objects in the vicinity of the radios.

    • @Oo-ni5uz
      @Oo-ni5uz 7 років тому

      so if i go 50 miles away from one radio will it still work

    • @radiosification
      @radiosification  7 років тому +5

      No, as I just explained it depends on a large number of factors. If you didn't understand that, find something less complicated to play with because this hobby is obviously too difficult for you.

    Hello,
    Do You know is this radio (DP3600) can be used for on site talk-around file transfer?
    I'm thinking about this:
    smartptt.com/products/smartptt-file-transfer/
    It say software is freeware, maybe You could make video about it since have two radios?
    Regards

    • @radiosification
      @radiosification  7 років тому

      +Electronic Noob Blog I believe you can use them for file transfer but it would be incredibly slow. Much slower than dial up. I'll have a look at that software and see if there is a trial or something

      Hi, I haven't downloaded the software but from looking at the website, it seems like it will work with a DP3600 fine. I'll put it on my to-do list for videos.

    How much DP3600 cost now?

    • @radiosification
      @radiosification  7 років тому +1

      It really depends. Most of them are second hand so the price can vary a lot. Have a look on some radio forums with for sale sections or on ebay.

    • @lifeisamatrix5960
      @lifeisamatrix5960 7 років тому +1

      engineer.pro over priced in second hand market. for what most go for used you can go direct to a dealer or motorola for same cost.

    My school has both types

    • @radiosification
      @radiosification  7 років тому

      Yeah many users of these radios have the older ones and then have some newer ones as they upgrade their fleet gradually or they purchase the newer radios only when new users join the system.
