I love this idea! I think despite being a book, this fits into the same exception Daniel hinted at for video games. It's clearly NOT an attempt to continue or spin off the series; it's a whole different project, writing a book that exists within the Wheel of Time universe. Of course, to do this right, you would absolutely not write the book that tells the real story of Jain Farstrider. You'd write the book that was written by someone in the Wheel of Time universe based on all the oral history, just as distorted and allegorical as the original. If you tried to tear away the myth and tell the true story, then you're back into the same dangerous prequel territory.

      @cdsmithus 4 роки тому +25

Honestly, I don't understand anyone wanting it. Wheel of Time is a great series, but it's not the only thing out there to read. And let's be honest, while I'm grateful that Sanderson finished the series versus leaving it unfinished, it wasn't the perfect fit for his writing style. Sanderson has an even more technical logic-based approach to magic systems than Jordan did, and tends to over-specify them until they lose their mystical side, and I don't think was a great fit for the Wheel of Time universe. I'd hate to see that grow to overshadow Jordan's original vision and style.

    • @qswaefrdthzg

I agree that Sanderson has his own amazing universe and I can't wait for more of the cosmere to be revealed :D
I was in the middle of listening to WoT again when I asked him and although I completely understand his reasons my heart still was filled with sorrow by his answer... The story I would truly like to see is the War of Power. I know I am in a minority but I love prequels... Although the star wars OT are unquestionably the superior movies, I feel like I am truly at home in the star wars universe in the prequels with the OT's world only being a pale shadow of what once was... The little we get told about the age of legends, evokes those same feelings in me... I think Brandon could have done well in this setting

    • @4_suds297
      @4_suds297 4 роки тому +7

I think that it's a bit sad though. I read somewhere online that Jordan had planned to write at least two additional books. That both were prequels and that they would fill the gap between new spring and the Eye of the World. We had a similar discussion in Sweden some years ago after the death of the guy who wrote The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo and the two following books. He passed away before being able to complete two more books he had planned to write in the same series. Just because he was not married to the woman he'd been living with for ages (and he made no proper will) she got nothing, and instead, his estranged father and brother inherited his estate and the rights to his literary works. They decided to let a guy called David Lagercrantz, an acclaimed writer in Sweden, finish the last two books based on the notes he left behind. There was a big debate in literary circles whether this was an affront to the dead author, but I remember Lagercrantz said in an interview that no author wants their characters and the stories to die with them.
Also, as Jordan always stressed the death and rebirth of the Wheel of Time world I always felt it was a bit odd that his widow says that there should be no more wheel of time stories. If so then there actually is a beginning and and ending to the wheel of time, as the wheel stopped turning when Jordan passed away and Sanderson finished AMOL.
I completely agree with Daniel Greene that the main characters stories are done and they have played their part in the weave. But because of Robert Jordan's wonderful world building I would love to continue to relive his universe but through other characters.

It is a weird story to continue. Continuing Matt's or Perrin's story seems wrong, because the "cosmic" portion of the conflict is done and the human infighting kinda cheapens the whole Last Battle thing. Maybe the breaking down of the Age of Legends.

Aiel War is exactly what I want as thinking when he discussed Tam. Tam would be a major character, maybe main. But it wouldn't just be about him. And there's not so much of it fleshed out that there's a danger of making plot contradictions.
That last point is why I wouldn't green light a book series on the War of Power / Age of Legends. Too easy to make plot errors, miscalculations of characters, etc. That is Legend, and it should stay that way.

The only idea I love (assuming it's done well) is the unification of the White and Black Towers. It would be great to see Logain building up the BT and achieving his glory. Also to see Androl and Pevara teaching other Ashaman and AS about their relationship and how they worked together. That's something that would not even have been known in the AoL since warders were not a thing then. A novella about Tam's past could be good. Mat and Tuon--NO WAY! First because I hate Tion and everything Seanchan, but alsobecause, as Daniel pointed out, Mat couldn't really be Mat in that kind of story. I absolutely hated the shipping of Mat and Tuon.

Having one editor working to insure things stick to the ideals of the Wheel of Time and choosing the authors who could handle writing with those ideals in mind. In my mind I would love the first and last story being done by Brandon ending with a unification of the towers, but it could be fun either way to see where that story goes. Best of all we could get a better look at how the events effect both towers.

Hey Daniel, Todd from The Dusty Wheel. There are two that I’d be happy with seeing. One: Tam and his story...because his story can be told as a totally different timeline. We don’t have to know how he got back to Emonds Field. We could just see his arc from the time he leaves until the Aiel war. Tam is the one of only two characters that I think has a story good enough to tell but also be out of sync with the series stories. We can disagree on that one. You made some good points but I’m stubborn. Two: I’d enjoy something from the Trolloc Wars. Manetheren would be great, but Aridhol/Shadar Logoth would be completely outside of the series arc also. That’s the way I look at it. If it is so far out of the arc of our series that it can’t really change canon then I’m ok with it.

The story I'm most interested in seeing more of is the peace keeping mission Rand gave the Aiel. I never trusted that the Seanchan would hold to Rand's peace after the last battle. The conflict between the Aiel and Seanchen would make a great story. The conflict would have the possibility to include the other nations and through that we could get tidbits of information about some of our favorite characters. Mat's name could come up in a conversation, or Perrin could be involved at some point and of course there would be talk of the White and Black towers. Even a rumor about a stranger (Rand) roaming the world doing great deeds and then moving on. I don't think any one character needs a whole story written about them. But every character could have a mention or a presence in the story concerning the peace keeping conflict.

How having three Ta'veren walking about the world affects it without dealing with the three directly. It would be an interesting concept, but my only worry is that these other authors would not capture the diction of WoT-also, Canon is Canon because it captures the ideology and hopes of the single author; having other authors come in and add their own ideas and ideologies just kind of destroys the idea of a canon in the first place. If the ideologies are different (which is going to happen with 99% certainty), it will vastly change diction, plot, character, EVERYTHING. When I say ideology, it's not simply just "Jordan's Road map of how the story will end." It's the author's own philosophies, no matter how small or seemingly irrelevant, the author's own outlooks on life in the books. People have different outlooks, no matter how small they are, from others, and this could be that one domino that sets off an entire different story from Jordan's vision or how Jordan would have finished it. You've talked about how maybe we don't have free will, how we are just a set of calculations going through time. Well, we would live in a completely different universe if one particle at the beginning of the Big Bang just moved just slightly in another direction. Same logic applies here. That smallest philosophy and difference in outlook, even if the outside authors think they are following Jordan's vision, is that small particle that sets off this entire series into a compete different direction, if not in ending then in mood, if not in mood then in quality, if not in quality then in pacing, etc. The idea is: it will NOT be the same series, and that just perturbs me from the series.

Yes I agree, you just can't pick up a series with as much character and depth as Wheel of Time and start writing if you don't know the tone and spirit of the work, or else we end up with the "Solo effect" as Daniel put it or Kennedy Star Wars (minus Rouge One, I actually really liked that one). If anything more is to be done with the series Sanderson needs to be involved either writing or editing the work. It's like in the case of Star Wars, you need folks like Dave Filoni who understand the spiritual climate and cadence of the original movies; as a result he did an excellent job with the cartoons and The Mandalorian and I think the Star Wars story over all is fuller because of his contributions. With Jordan's work, Sanderson did an excellent job in continuing the story and I feel he knows enough now to explore other aspects of the story which weren't explored less they detract even more from the main story. If not Sanderson himself doing the writing maybe he can train someone (like Jordan's wife did with Sanderson) to continue writing side stories for the WoT world with the same tone and spirit as the original story. As a side note I would just leave the original story arc and its characters alone; there are plenty of side and back stories built in the original story for exploration in new books.
I just feel there is so much left on the table in the WoT universe I can accept a bit of a divergence here or there if I get to read a well thought out story behind events like Hawkwing's rise to power or a story centering around the creation of The Tower Ghenjei and red arches and first contact with the Finn (granted Sanderson would have to handle that one). Maybe a story in the distant future where a White / Black tower expedition investigates the Land of Madmen, or even a detailed story about the old Aes Sedai and Lews Therin binding the dark one. These would be excellent series for an author to explore who respects the work enough to not put too much of her or his own spin on it and is willing to allow a group of people who understand Jordan's world (like his widow and Sanderson) to look at the final work and give it a green light for publishing. Something like the Tolkien Estate would have to be established to drastically slow down the philosophy and ideology creep we are afraid would happen to Jordan's legacy.

I think you've summed up not only my opinion here but for media in general these days. I feel so turned off by some of the giant franchises that dominate movies, tv and games because they lack a coherent voice. When every Star Wars or Marvel movie is directed by different people with different ideas the only thing tying any of this together is the continuity of events and that's not that impressive or interesting to me. I think the best thing about storytelling is how deep a story can effect someone and to me that effect is lost when there is no one "voice" in a narrative. I can understand it and even like it when it's a situation like Robert Jordan's where he passed and left behind notes and instruction and Sandersons job was to essentially recreate Jordan's vision because at least the focus was telling Jordan's story not telling your own story based off Jordan's work.

I think that either channelers or the Dark One get so powerful that they end up destroying the world and/or completely reversing time. Maybe a super balefire reverts everything back to the beginning. Though that's so far away that the entire world and magic could be entirely different. A lot of cool potential.

If we got a 'Witcher Style" WoT video game, I would be so unbelievably excited. It doesn't even have to be Canon, they could just change some stuff and make it an alternate turning of the wheel or whatever, it would just be so cool.
But to the actual point of this video, part of me really wants to read more WoT because I love it so much, but I think it is way more likely to have a negative impact on the books than a positive. Sanderson was great and finished the last 3 books excellently, but I think we can mostly agree, it would have been even better if Jordan were around to finish it. Unfortunately that wasn't the case, but my point is Sanderson wrote a great ending with heavy influence from Jordan and his notes, and that's something that he wouldn't have for any spin off. Without the creator's head coming up with the stories, I think it would be hard for any author to do it justice.

I would love to see a mini-series called "The Age of Legends," but not the one we know of, but the one that comes an Age or two after the end of "The Wheel Of Time." Witnessing the birth of new, wondrous creatures and peoples (like the Green Man), and perhaps dealing with the last remnants of Dark Friends and the like. Or just the darker aspects of human nature. It could end on a high note (the pinnacle of a grand unification of Humanity), but we all know how the Age would eventually end: with some release of the Dark One.

There are a few additions that I would be interested in.
Firstly, I would be interested in short stories/novelettes based off of Mat memories of past lives; it would be cool to see those short flashes/sentences fleshed into fun adventures/drama stories.
Second, stories from Age of Legends/Trolloc Wars/Artur Hawkwing time, but specifically told from perspective of minor people who happen to be present for events, not taveren (style of World War Z). Seeing those stories come to life for us, would make them more impactful when they are referenced in the main series(specifically thinking of Birgitte and Forsaken, but there are other examples).
In general, I think no story should try to be an epic in itself; that detracts from the power of the stories of Rand, Mat, Perrin, Egwene, etc. Instead, IF there is a additional story told, it should be to flesh out events that happened in the past that we want more info about, or wrapping up stories that maybe weren't as satisfied as they could have been. In this regard, I would refer to Isaac Asimov's Foundation trilogy as a reference to have impactful characters, events and moments that only take a chapter or two(it is more how they are spun into the complete world and the end goal, rather than the individual person or event).

I absolutely share the firm "no" stance on more Rand, and I feel the same way to a slightly lesser extent to things that follow AMoL; it's such a good, pure, fantastic ending for so many characters, I don't want to fix or shore up one and risk the greater whole.
The one spinoff I would actively really want to see is a prequel or concurrent story about what's going on over in Seanchan. The Seanchan feel so strangely underdeveloped, considering how important they all to the overall story, that I feel like a story or series about them could give proper layering without risking the common faults of prequels either being useless stories or way too important to not have been mentioned beforehand.

If they do a new book series, show or video game they would have to get Sanderson on board to ensure the story is sound, otherwise it could, like you said, have the "Solo effect" (I like your allegory by the way!). For example they can set stories in the Age of Legends, maybe a series which sheds more light on the creation of the Tower of Ghenjei and the Aelfinn / Eelfinn backstory along with their laws in dealing with humans (my favorite side story in the books), or even a full Lews Therin backstory (complete with how the Aes Sedai use to function when both halfs acted together) and how he sealed up the Dark One. Also they could do Artur Hawkwing's rise to power which would be fantastic, or a fully fleshed out story of the Aiel's from the various splits of the Da'Shain along with their journey to, and settling in the waste. Then there are some side stories from the original series that didn't get their due diligence, like we could get a couple of books with a more detailed account of Demandred's time in Shara, or maybe a series on Shara itself.
They can even have a series that takes place in the distant future where the White and Black towers partner to send an expedition to investigate a series of disturbances emanating from the Land of the Madmen, a whole continent yet to be discovered. There are just so many interesting side stories and historical back stories available to explore so there wouldn't be a "Solo effect" on the main story and it's characters. They can even do a television show where every season or two is a new story bringing to light and focusing on one of these other stories.
Off topic, in addition to Solo messing up Han's legacy as a brash quick witted space cowboy and smuggler I thought Glover's portrayal of Lando in Solo was a joke, like actually a joke. Glover just came across as a classless clown in a Lando suit instead of Williams' portrayal of Lando as smooth talking, lovable scoundrel, with a bit of luck on his side so he always seemed to land on his feet. I mean Williams managed to pull off a better, more convincing Lando in Episode IX and voice acting for Rebels than Glover did in any scene in all of Solo. Okay rant over, sorry I got triggered there for a second with the mention of Solo :).

To continue my long comment that broke the character limit I didn't know existed.
The Aiel War seems rich material, focused on Tam as above or done as it’s own thing.
    The fall of Malkier?
What about how Slayer came to be? Maybe focused on Lord Luc Mantear? Who he was, his quest in the Blight and however that went wrong and how he somehow became fused with the soul of Isam Mandragorn (Lans Unlce?) to become Slayer. Or more focus on Isam and how his escape from Malkier ended with him growing up in a town of Darkfriends and Shadow channelers in the Blight. Or maybe somehow take turns in the process from both perspectives until they merge.
Any of the Five Great Captains could be their own thing or part of a story on their nation:
Pedron Niall, Lord Captain Commander of the Children of the Light
Agelmar Jagar of Shienar, the Lord of Fal Dara
Gareth Bryne, Captain General of the Queen’s Guards in Andor
Davram Bashere, Marshal-General of the Saldaean army
Rodel Ituralde, commander of the armies of Arad Doman
Speaking of just cool individual characters that could be focused on:
Logain before he shows up in the main story, his uprising and capture as a False Dragon.
Bayle Doman, Cadsuane, Siuan and personally I love Chel Vanin and would dig to see him get some love on his own or somehow tied into some other stuff.
I guess lastly, the things I think might be trickiest… going back to the Age of Legends (AOL). Seems extra tricky since it’s supposed to be the age of LEGENDS, maybe it should stay in the mist of legends. I also think it might be hard to really get a feel for and do right.
If done, it might work best to not really be at the peak of the AOL, but after it started to come apart in “the Collapse” where things were already pretty bleak and they were losing much of their ancient knowledge and high technology.
The Collapse is said to be when the first Darkfriends arose. Seeing that happen and seeing how the Forsaken went over could be cool… or ruin them for us.
Would it be cool or suck to see the debate between the ancient Aes Seadi on how to defeat the Dark One and how the other plan of the Fateful Concord to defeat it with the Choedan Kal sa’angreal went awry when the lost the keys of the sa’angreal to the Forsaken, so the 100 Companions had no choice but to strike at Shayol Ghul with the 7 Seals and the birth of the Taint and the start of the Breaking… maybe ending with the death of Lews Therin and the formation of Dragonmount and the island that would one day become Tar Valon… could be amazing… could ruin a story better told as wispy history.
Anyway… I’m sure I missed a dozen other cool ideas, but there is SO much that could be amazing stories.
So do we NEED them, no. Could they be awesome and expand the WOT universe in really fun ways, yes. Could they also suck and take some of the shine off an otherwise nearly perfect masterpiece, maybe.
Perhaps I find it easier than some to enjoy what I enjoy and ignore the crap that could taint it, but for me… I’d be ready to toss the dice.

I could honestly go in for a Rand novella. I think it could be interesting to explore him traveling the world and encountering injustices, but being torn between wanting to help people and letting the events of the world run their course free from his interference. It would have to be a less sword-and-sorcery-ey book because all conflict would have to be emotional for him. Nonetheless, I think it could still be really fascinating if handled correctly.

I would like to see a short story collection about the Heroes of the Horn. You could have multiple authors write it as a tribute to Jordan, without having to worry about the canon to much. The stories could be considered almost like the Third Age's form of fairy tales. It could be structured so it would seem like it changed from generation to generation of each telling of those tales. It would not effect the canon, yet give us more stories from this universe we love.

I've always wanted to see the story of Tamrilyn the first channeler(when humanity gains the ability to channel) at the end of the first age and the beginning of the age of the legends. Would be a nice blend of futuristic and apocalyptic technology of our age and the fantasy elements that would likely introduce themselves in the second age. It would also give whomever wrote it huge artistic license since Jordan barely mentions anything from that time period except for a few lines.

"Hey give me another book!" This is a very difficult question to answer. Yes, the fear of messing with canon or legacy is high. This leads to one answer only and it does not guarantee book sales. You have to find an area and time Jordan did not explore too heavily. With just my initial thought, I know of two: Shara before or during WOT era and the Blight and the Shadow's forces growth upto the WOT era. These are the two that come to mind that I feel safe with another author tackling. Though they can still ruin it they have very little effect with the completed work. I must admit two other areas I would've loved explored by Jordan, still feel the need to know more, was Malkier and Manatheren. I just don't feel secure another author wouldn't ruin them that is why I feel Blight and Shara are safe to explore.

There are fascinating RJ-made characters from those times that I'd love to know more about. I would love to see a series at the end of the next age. This would allow us to leave the characters alone (except as stories in history-and the stories need not all be true since they are legends by this point), but would give us info of how the world developed after Rand and co-‘s legacies. Have the black and white towers reunited? Did they ever manage to rescue the channeling slaves? What happened to the Aiel, sea folks, etc.. I would only want these if top tier authors with access to Robert Jordan’s notes wrote it.
And honestly, if the TV show ends up successful (like game of thrones successful), future novels are likely to become inevitable. So, let’s make it clear we want these characters left alone and give us more world building by seeing the far future.
Also, I would want all future publications to be edited/overseen by Harriet McDougal and Brandon Sanderson.

I've always felt like, if the original creator isn't able to create more, it should be generally ok for new people to create more stories. I'd greatly prefer some sort of regulating and quality assessment body for such a thing (and the creator's family gets a profit percentage), but I believe people put too much stock in never touching a franchise because someone else made it, while we also still get Sherlock Holmes movies and Batman comics. If you don't like the new material put out, it doesn't ruin the rest of it.
Of course, whether more material seems sensible for the series from a creative perspective is a case-by-case thing

  • @jatzi1526
    @jatzi1526 4 роки тому +1

My thoughts on stories taking place in the same universe after a super epic tale is tell me stories that don't have anything to do with the epic tale. This came up after Avenger's Endgame. What do you do to add to it? You go small and tell small interesting stories in the universe but totally unrelated to the previously told story. Go back to the time before the dark one originally escaped and tell a story set at the height of the Aes Sedai. That blows away some of the nice mystery the era has which Daniel mentioned as liking. Makes sense, it does. So maybe go back to the Trolloc Wars or go into the future. Tell a story that does not connect to the main story but rather uses main story events as a backdrop. We've heard about the Trolloc Wars, we've heard about the War of Power, we've heard about the War of a Hundred Years. Use those events as a backdrop to tell a good story. I don't know what but I do know just because there's a war going on doesn't mean life stops elsewhere.
Or go into the future and tell a story there. It can be a different kind of story entirely, just set in the universe. Maybe it's a detective style story about some normal detective having to deal with an Aes Sedai serial killer using technology as we know it progresses fairly quickly after the books. I don't know. I just want to hang out in the world more, I don't really care about much else other than just leaving the main wheel of time story alone.
Something that's kinda like this that I liked was Eragon and a new book set in the Eragon world. It was just some short stories, nothing big or grandiose or epic. Just some nice short interesting stories that touched base with some the characters again. Now Eragon is a far cry from the Wheel of Time of but something like that but without the touching base with characters thing(or maybe so Idk) I'd be down for. Maybe some stuff set on the other continents?

There are neither beginnings nor endings to the Wheel of Time....but we get an Ending and it is dam near perfect. I could see more of the world but not the characters. Two ideas I have had for 20 odd years are :
Tales of the Wheel anthology with stories focusing on the 1st and 2nd age ( maybe a conquest of Sencchan story? maybe a 4th age or 5th age tale penned by Sanderson)
    And
    Tales of Jaim Farstrider
I would love to see both of these done with the proceeds given to charity. Both also have the best way for authors who where influenced by the Wheel of Time to add to the canon without ruining Robert's legacy.

  • @TheWheelTurns
    @TheWheelTurns 4 роки тому +1

On the whole I'd say no - hard to see how anyone could do this without it kind of ruining things, but if I had to choose a few ideas I'd say either make them really different so mentally it can remain a separate thing or use some of the conflicts from the breaking/hawking/seanchan/false dragons which we have almost no details about.
A few ideas could be: Ishamel's point of view from the breaking through the Trolloc wars might be cool. A group of short stories about what happened to each of the forsaken to make them turn to the shadow from their POV. The story of Hawkwing's brother's invasion and conquest of Seanchan - almost nothing is written about this so it could be different with all new everything and not affect the WOT cannon too much at all. Or maybe a new character from the end days of the war of power to setting things up for the Eye of world . Also a group of short stories The Travels Of Jain Farstrider could also be done without really messing with anything canon.

Interesting characters with an unique take on using the power. I feel like that would let him go with his own plots and characters, and uses of the power. I think he could do that really well, but I'm reluctant to have him take existing characters and build on it.

I think it could definitely be done, but it would need to be rigidly controlled. I think filling in historical events while staying 100% true to the already established canon, and without adding any new canon could work as long as there is due care given to accuracy of the established world ie cultures etc.
One example I think could work would be the establishment of the Seanchan Empire (the Consolidation) it spans 800 odd years and we have next to no details about it, but we get to play in the same world with all the same metaphysics and cool beasties and what not without touching the original story at all.

You've got political intrigue, assassinations, heaps of cool creatures, the badass version of Ogier...throw in a Doomseer and someone crazy enough to try using male channellers to get an edge and I think you could get some great stories without ever touching RJ's work or characters.

@tylinstoy from Twitter here: Surprised you didn’t mention or suggest anything from the Age of Legends- we obviously see perspectives throughout, particularly as Rand goes through Rhuidean, but seeing something about the War of Power and the Breaking has always appealed to me. However, watching this, having that as a video game- that would be amazing

Hard no on anything taking place in the same time as the original series for me. Too much risk of ruining stuff.
-I'd be interested in a Lews Therin Telamon story. Show us the world pre breaking and the events that lead Lews Therin to killing his beloved Ilyena/causing the taint on Saidin. Show us the rise of the forsaken and their deepest depravities. There's bound to be a lot of material written by Jordan already to pull from here.
-Or alternatively a spinoff in an entirely new age of the wheel.
I'd be cool with either of those if it's Brandon doing em, any other author... I'm not sure I'd want to see anything from any other author.

Meh i don't think RJ had any intention of letting Rand walk off into the sunset, he has him where he is at with new ability's for a reason, a year or two at most before getting dragged back in. It could be interesting taking the plot armour from the 3 mains and how that affects them, but in my mind they are all ta'veren to death so idk. A grey tower series could be interesting i guess, if they work out a proper "Bad Guy" for the towers to unite against. To my mind the no brainer is to do a War of Power/Age of Legends series ending with the bore being sealed. I know that prequel stuff made a great name for itself in starwars, but there were some great ideas in those 3 movies, and atleast to me Lucas did a good job showing how a democracy fails (to thunderous applause ). I see some Value in portraying the War of Power in a more greyish light, show how "good" people decided to fight for evil. Show how some of the forsaken were buddies with all the other people of power of the time.

If we were going to get any additional stories in print I'd like to see some stuff that's a little out of left field. I'd like to see a Tigraine POV story, going from Andor to Dragonmount. A chronicle of Ishamael's machinations from his not quite imprisonment could be really interesting too, I want to know what the process of being tossed out and pulled back into that prison was like for him. This could be a thing that is broken down into discreet 3rds based on the periods when he was free.
A collection of short stories from character POVs that were never done in the main series could be fun too.

I think that no more books should be written after the canonical ending to WoT. I don't think the AoL should be touched either. Actually some of the best possibilities if more books are going to be written, is prequels about each of the False Dragons, Artur Hawkwing and the Trolloc wars. This is because these stories aren't super fleshed out already, but they are very interesting, have some details for a base/key moments, and the author would not have to try to copy RJ's style for prominent characters, like Mat.
I would also absolutely Love a WoT Video game, preferably RPG, but I'd take an RTS or even MMO type game as well. Someone needs to get on this. A Board Game would also be cool!

    I've got a few thoughts;
    1 - I've rediscovered your channel, I love it!
2 - A Wheel of Time game with similar controls to Jedi Fallen Order, centered around a female Aes Sedai hunting a man during the breaking admist the chaos would be great
3 - I'd be up for Brandon Sanderson writing but honestly he's got enough books in progress (STORMLIGHT IS AMAZING) and I wouldn't trust any other authors.
4 - A new series could be focused on Lews Therin, or the Breaking, or Aviendha's vision actually happening

what if they made "wheel of time legends" where they explore potential future storries with new authors set in the wheel of time universe while not strictly being Canon. not sure what i think of it myself, on the one hand its more storries in a universe i love, on the other hand im not sure "branding them" as non canon from the start would completely save them from potantially ruining the storry thats allready there.

Well, I definitely agree with your opinion about a new story of Rand BUT I also would love to see some cutscenes, some short peeks to what Rand does.
I also would like to read the period shortly after the final. It doesn't have to be a story, I just want to see how the world fares with death of the Dragon and victory of Last Battle etc.

My thought on this would be taking the bits and hints (and maybe notes from RJ) and do many books/multiple series relating to the age of ledgonds, the trollock wars, Artur Hawkwing, The heros of the horn, the fall of Malkier, etc. All things discussed or hinted at by the main series, but would not break it (as long as edited properly). It could lent itself to great stories, and if nothing else help the world feel more lived in. Also, id doing the Age of Legonds, the forsaken could be really explored at a deeper level.

I am on board with the video game ideas and I totally agree with your thoughts on video game canon vs book canon. Games allow you to explore those stories and time periods that we as fans love to speculate on without hurting the legacy of WoT. My personal vote is for a rpg style game (more like Skyrim but I like third person.) set about a generation into the fourth age. Even in this the most I want to see from Rand is maybe an easter egg or a side quest. It would be cool to come across him playing his flute at an in somewhere for a meal☺

It would be awesome to have books in the same universe but in ages 2, 4, 5, 6, 7 or even 1. Especially 7 to see how the world comes back around to our time, though it would take several lifetimes and multiple incredible authors completely devoted to Jordan's work to complete this type of project.
The way Jordan's universe works is an amazing setting for a fantasy series but the third age was too perfectly executed to be touched anymore. Potential books should be spiritual succesors to the original books.
The second age came around with the discovery of the One power, the third after the discovery of the True power, etc. The rest of the ages are a blank slate with infinite possibilities. Like my guilty pleasure is imagining the 7th age to be full-on universe destroying sci-fi leading back to the creation and the new "beginning" of time.

I could see 2 distinct options. Historic periods like the Trolloc wars, Hawking, the War of Power. 2and would be series of books all being short stories by different authors. Like a tribute to Jordan. They could be stories, about 100 pages each, about Aiel like a young Rhuarc becoming chief, famous Aes Sedai, and even the Forsaken initial turns to the shadow.

To me the perfect spin off would be focusing on the land of madmen. An entire continent that we never explored, giving the author the opportunity to do his own thing, create the different cultures of the land without worrying so much about doing justice to Jordan's original work, the opportunity of making a new protagonist from the ground up, and struggling on this land of pure chaos. It would be great to give the red and green aja a new found appreciation, since they were the ones responsible of preventing stuff like that, and it wouldnt really hurt Jordan's legacy even if it turned out to be bad since its own separate thing

What you said about Rand and Mat, 100%agree with you.
I think a Tam story could still be awesome but only on certain hands. I think a story leading up to him finding Rand and bringing him home, perhaps intertwined with the story of Rands mother going to the Waste and such has great potential.

Just thought about another story I might be interested in. I think there could be some interesting stuff with Birgitte. As we know she was close to being spun out into the pattern again. Why? Would she run across Elayne? Would they feel the same kinship?
