@@KICK839not really, he's just good. He bowls tall and at an angle and that's about it. Less variation than even Jadeja. his batting looks great in the lower order but he'd be in trouble higher. He's a solid player but Kuldeep has a higher potential overall and should be preferred.

The match was over when Stokes told Root to review the plumbest lbw ever, and then when 2 mins later, he reviewed his own equally plumb lbw. Nothing chums the water and screams how vulnerable you are like desperately wasting 3 reviews in 15 minutes.
Even the Bairstow one was a dumb decision by Root to tell Bairstow to take upstairs, but at least that was a feather that Bairstow didn’t feel.
This English side is making it a habit of playing like they're least interested in the game everytime they're dominated.
@@DrDothrakilet them be lol, the foreign media gives them too much attention. They're playing better than expected with mediocre players. But they're still not winning enough so let them do whatever drama they want. Only results matter, whatever they might say.
The Foakes conundrum continues - he is a world class keeper and a decent batter albeit one who builds an innings and isn't flashy. He's generally come in with the team in dire straits with no recognised allrounder at 8 and a very inexperienced tail - not a situation in which to play his natural game. Yet as you rightly state, a good enough batter to have protected his wicket and faced more balls that 4 of the top 6 batters in the team! He is a county number 5 and scores centuries from that position when given the opportunity to build an innings. I don't understand why England have never thought about him batting at 5 here, especially with the middle order misfiring so badly - he could have built an innings and supported partnerships with 3 proper batters! I thought that "Bazball" was about freeing the players up to play their natural game without fear? If all you want is a keeper at 7 who flails a quick 50 alongside the tail then it is not reasonable to ask Foakes for that (might as well ask Duckett to leave the ball more or use his feet to the spinners.....). If fast scoring batters is all they actually want then by all means just play Bairstow or try one of the others like Ollie Robinson (Durham) or Jamie Smith but accept, as in the Ashes with Bairstow, that a less able keeper is going to shell regulation chances and cost you games. And for those clammering about James Rew, I think his batting is very similar to Foakes - a player who builds innings and is not a quick scorer.
It wouldn’t surprise me if England go back to giving the gloves to Bairstow for the entire summer series v WI & Sri Lanka. If Stokes continues not to bowl or only a handful of overs in a test, then England are going to struggle to find a balanced side as in the past Stokes at 6 was a genuine all rounder. Stokes may then have to play as a batsman leaving the quandary if Brook comes back, who’s left out. Pope I guess? So if Bairstow is back at No.6, the selectors will need to find more bowling all rounders. Moeen Ali is no longer in the picture & is it not time to move on from 35 year old Chris Woakes? That first test squad announcement v West Indies in July will make interesting reading.
I liked Foakes too.
This was the first time I watched him play and honestly, he performed way better than what I expected from the English team in Indian conditions.
He should be given a longer rope than Bairstow & dare I say Stokes (if he continues to be just a Batsman and not allrounder).

@@Akagra007 Foakes has only played 6 of his 25 tests in England, the last in 2022, which is a rare stat for an England cricketer having played that many tests. I just think there are a number of problems going forward for the selectors. Stokes will bowl less and less it seems as he gets older. Add to that the ages of both Anderson & Wood. Broad gone too. Archer can’t stay fit. No one younger as yet seems to stand out to step forward and lead the England attack when they retire.
England may rew the fact they chose Foakes over Jason.
Spot on... Foakes should have batted at 5 and bairstow should have batted at 7, as bairstow can only smack the ball and can't defend, a number 5 batter should have a great defence and a mindset to build partneships. Bairstow was suited to bat at 7 in india as he only has to make 30-40 quickfire runs batting with the tail..

Great analysis like always. For India Yahsaswi Jaiswal and for England Shoaib Bashir (and perhaps to a slightly lesser extent Tom Hartley) should be the "finds" from the series - maybe we'll look back in 5 or 10 years time to trace their careers from this point. Overall, at least three (and a half) games out of five were hard-fought with fluctuating fortunes across the sessions, it's just that India won more of them to swing the matches after a wake-up call in Hyderabad.
It is quite evident that India won more of the sessions to swing matches. The actual debatable point is not how but why.
England allowed India to dominate them, especially in the field. Their style of play in the series came across as egoistic rather than pragmatic. It was like this before this series as well, like the one against SA which they lost by an innings, but India gave a hard reality check on Bazball.
England learnt the hard way to respect test cricket.

One thing I’ve learnt is the amount of people that overate Benjamin Foakes. He’s a decent keeper but the poor guy can’t hold a bat.
He is equal to Kuldeep in batting

I think foakes can defense a bit against spinners that being said is horrible against pacers and gets out on soft dismissals
Rohit stock has gone higher considering his captaincy skills displayed. He had a depleted squad and still came out handsomely on top.

A mediocre England team you should have beaten 5-0. His fields were awful at times, his reviews were bad, he gave england 70-0 starts every game until the last by over bowling his quicks.
In fact, considering how hard India ended up dominating the series, it's really hard for a captain to look that bad hahaha. Still a gun batsman tho

@@ganesankrishnaraj1948than thats your prblm if you haven't heard anyone else say this...literally after the series ended irfan pathan said this, harsha and dk said this..even nick knight was saying this during the match...ravi said this during the 3rd test...yeah his captaincy was not good during 1st test...but it was good after that.. captaining a depleted indian side at that time..he has done well...and even after his captaincy blunders during the 1st test we would have won that match if we would have taken those catches and yes batted well during the 2nd inns!

Hey Jarrod, could you also rate the pitches used for this series? ... 99% of the complaints from Away teams is about the "dust bowl" pitches in India, so for once we'd like to know how much better (or worse) were they this time around. 😅

I thought Tom Hartley bowled way better than Shoaib Bashir, although Bashir got the wickets.
I am on same page with everything but Rohit. It's up considering 1-0 down with experienced player not available. I am sure if this would be Eng or Aus at home, they would get lots of praise.
For me, Rehan Ahmed is way down. He came into this series as England's second choice spinner, but needing some performances on subcontinent wickets to really nail that down. Instead he's been leapfrogged by both Bashir and Hartley, which can be most clearly seen from the fact he was left out of the fourth test. That decision was due to the pitch, but his lack of control makes me think they'd make the same decision in England this summer if Leach goes down injured (which is very possible)

A request from an Indian fan to the various English and non-Indian media pundits - don't overanalyze this series. Though the overwhelming narrative in your media circles was how good England were and how things could have gone their way had England 'seized the opportunities that were presented to them', the fact undeniable is England were good BUT the Indians were better! Hence, the final score line 4-1 in favour of the Indians. Period.

Sarfraz Khan not a good runner between the wickets? He is a very good runner between the wickets. Jadeja is the culprit - he ran ashwin sarfraz and himself out this series.
Jack leach is definitely down. Same argument you used for dan lawrence. England would think twice before picking leach over heartley.
Yes, I think Leach has fallen down the pecking order in terms of English spinning options but we won’t see much of 3 of the 4 spinners that were in show in this series in the foreseeable. English conditions generally tend to dictate picking only 1 spinner for home tests and then they’re off down under for another Ashes tour next winter.

Also about Robinson, he was really good in Pakistan on flatter pitches. I thought he had skills like Anderson and would continue with his role (fitness permitting). But this Ranchi performance was very strange, he looked absolutely useless which really puzzles me.

Overall rohit did very good and easily amongst top 5 Batters in this series, but for his standard, rohit definitely was just decent,.... Last couple of yr's he used to be amongst top 3 Batters in like every series, this series I think he was behind jaiswal, Gill and Crawley, at 4th position
Ben duckett not sure how is stocks are up one really good score and then some ok couple of 40s and average of 34 and absolutely looked clueless by end of tour how is that stocks going up? Elsewhere i also read ben duckett has done good from english media etc etc gosh english cricket must have some poor expectations from their openers .. crawley on other hand definitely had a pretty good series.
His stock is up as he has been approached to act in remake of Lord of the Rings or Hobbit

Crawley has been England's biggest gain of the last 12 months, don't think anyone saw him, an opener averaging 26, being the most consistent player and getting nearly 900 runs across the Ashes and India. Bashir is also a big gain for England, looks a long term spinner for England.

Good analysis..Ben Foakes did well behind stumps and he did exceedingly well with bat looking at the situation of each test he was in..personally I felt if Foakes is out the rest of the team is out..look at the balls he faced all thru series and not the runs he scored..

He got lot of bad repute for loosing wc final. Then he lost captainship of Mumbai Indians and was on the verge of loosing the same for t20 wc. This series win has established him once again as a leader
Rohit does not need to prove anybody when it comes to captaincy. It is a comedy.
Sure, India won this series, but that felt more due to their individual players being better than England's, rather than anything from the captain, like field settings, inspiring the team in the field, having a particular team ethos, etc. Rohit has an OK captain, but looked a bit anonymous opposite Stokes (who was active in both a bad and good way, but that's another story...)

I am an indian cricket enthusiast and my question is why Stokes is there in the team. For his batting / bowling or captaincy ? Pretty sure, had this been England Football team, Stokes and Macculam are already fired. Looks like being a yesman is the first criteria to be part of the England team. Respect to Root as he played his natural positive test cricket skill after the first 3 tests disaster.

No player will be considered for the test team if they don't play Ranji matches. So no Pant, Ishan Kishan or Iyer. Plus all are making sure they're fit for IPL. That's where the money is.

Disagree with Anderson stock report …career average of 26 and strike rate of 52 but his series average of 33 and 60 that too just ten wickets his 700 th wicket was also tailender also his 699th wicket was after scoring 100 ..no wonder he is legend of the game no disrespect but if you only think about this series and what’s expected of him, his under performance has been the difference of you compare him with bumrah for eg that’s where England lost the test series . But English media just want to bash batters and praise Anderson for his 700.

My problem with Jarrod Kimber is we all know the Indian Team has the Best Players (zero doubts). But we can never forget India did not lift the World Cup (Test and ODIs) especially ODI on their home turf in front of full support from Indian fans. Winning such a Bilateral series won't matter, no one will remember how good were Indian Team because they did not deliver when it mattered most.
In fact they are destined to lose the WCT a third time and confirm their status as unbeatable chokers

Test series are as prestigious as icc tournaments, WTC has been added pretty recent to make tests popular, these tests series are not normal bilateral, they are tournament of thier own, For comparision a T20 WC is less valuable than a test series win in SENA for India, that's why Gabba victory is celebrated till day.

Bashir got 2 5-fors in his first 3 tests, I'd say that's slightly better than bowling 'OK!'
As for Rehan's path, I think that'll be mostly in white ball cricket for the next however long. That's where I imagine he'll work out what kind of player he really is, and where he can have a more consistent role with his bowling.
