Plus, I've seen how the wealthy parents usually treat their daughter. If they're truly rich, the parents will try to accommodate the daughter in some way, i.e. give her money to buy a real mattress, for one, cash to put in deposit for a better apartment/house and won't just leave her 'be.' And why is she even with him, she must be so unwanted in Indonesia (divorcee with a kid and barely attractive) hence she had to go for a foreign man who's 'broke.'

Which is all he can really expect. She shouldn't have to clean the place top to bottom because he has somebody coming to stay in their shared apartment
maybe its just scripted by the producers of the show, to make it more interesting for the viewers they tell Eric to mess up his apartment
@Gold Rose yeah but we don't know the state of the apartment before he left. If it was a mess it's unfair to expect her to clean up the entire apartment because he's got somebody coming to stay. At most I think he should be able to expect that she was going to keep it in roughly the same shape as it was when he left. And it doesn't seem to me like he is a very clean person. So it would be very surprising to me if it had been significantly cleaner when he left. you also have to remember that in this situation his daughter is not his subordinate. She is his roommate and it was actually her apartment first. He kept bring up the fact that she hadn't paid the rent the last month but he was either expecting her to move out or he was expecting to move out leaving her holding the bag for the lease ( and it was already mentioned that they were both on the lease. When you have a lease you can't just up and move out whenever you want). Either way she was doing him a pretty big favor
I think he’s expecting to marry someone so they have to do all the work for him which is not at all okay.
One thing for sure though, he should have bought a bigger mattress and I get it, he told his daughter to keep the house clean. He should have hired a cleaner to clean just in case.

As an Indonesian, I don't think she's as rich as she claims to be. If she's rich, she wouldn't go and flaunt about how wealthy she is cause that will backfire. Most rich Indonesians would usually go back to their home country to continue their parents' business. The only reason I say that is because my English accent is really mixed for the same reason (Grew up in a tri-lingual family but lived in different states - texas and california) Even my professional speech is different, but it's very hard when i'm speaking comfortably to just "pick an accent and stick to it" because I will literally say different phrases and my tongue slips into a mix of accents. Most people around me don't question it because my English isn't broken.

Most of the time, it's my natural accent but then I sometimes it automatically changes and can be British to the heavy Brooklyn accent. It's quite common actually if you're raised in different environments, but there's an inconsistently in the type of environment. Just like habits.

depends on which perspective you want to look at it. Judging by the state of the apartment, i think the parents think that was a decent apartment and they got it for free so they don't see any problem to stay there, they might be frugal (many rich people in Indonesia are) and wanted to allocate the money they brought for shopping or something that they could brag about to their neighbours basically😂which = mooching, as you said.
but in Indonesia receiving someone's gift is a must (kinda), or at least respect it. That also might be the reason why they stayed there.
Bear in mind, USD rate to IDR (Indonesian currency) is pretty high so being rich here does not always mean "can immediately buy a penthouse" type of rich.
I still don't like Leida's behaviour towards Eric's kids though, It was very rude of her and as an Indonesian i feel embarrased.

Before she came to live with him, he is on the TV show facetiming her, and he says several times in one conversation, "I'm not a rich man." She can see his background of the room he was talking to her in, and it was a poor person's home. At first, I thought maybe she really loved him, until they showed her arrive in America and it became obvious she is selfish and spoiled. So, something else is going on. Maybe she is using him for the Green Card, with the hopes that she'll get to meet a rich, handsome, young doctor to leave him for.

I went to the same school with this woman for years. She's...well, to put it delicately..a character. No hatred intended here because we didn't interact much, and I respect her mom as I remember her as a VERY NICE lady. Wishing good health for Leida's mom.
Also, they may not be the crazy rich asians you guys imagine, but I remember her family was, I suppose, sorta well financially back when we were kids. The spouse is just an instrument you have to attach to for making babies to pass on the family name and have children to earn for you in retirement. They NEVER marry down, but the US is considered an upgrade and being a divorced women with a child, her SMV is near zero regardless of how much money her parents have.

It's not so much about materialism/money as it is about thinking ahead for the people you are uprooting to bring to live with you. Honestly, I don't feel she's in the wrong at all in this sense.
If he was too broke to afford suitable living conditions, he should have been upfront about it. From what I've seen from this show, Americans like to pretend they have money. He knows exactly what he's getting into by involving himself in the lives of this woman and her child.
