I listen to metal, but this is very incorrect comparison for the following reasons: 1. You take all the errors of pop singers and oppose them to one of the best metal performances like the emblematic Helloween live show (which I can listen every day for a full year). I am sure there are enough cases where the same singers both pop did perfectly well and metal had fails. 2. It would be nice to see them in a separate, mostly-male comparison video, agreed. Still nice to see that there's lotsa female metalers that I never knew.
All of these artistis have good and bad performances, I love metal but seems like you choose the worst performances for pop artists, also not the best artists to compare aswell, I love the idea of comparing the two worlds but the execution here is a no no.
@Roberto Mendes Just because YOUR taste is not pop music, it`s not all crap. THAT is dumb... I`m not a pop-fan at all, but I have the balls to say that even some of the artists are really good- although it`s not what I personally like
The fact that they have different voice ranges doesn't mean some are better than others, is just that some people can reach higher notes and others don't, the difference between a good singer and a amateur is the control and color they give to its own voice...
Was going to say the same. It’s also important to realize that you can’t always compare two artists from different genres. Singing is a very complex art. Everybody has their own style, develop their own techniques, and add’s their own thing to it. I mean, realistically as long as you’re not horrifically bad, who’s the better singer is subjective to the listener. While it’s true that pop artists generally don’t even sing their own music, there are still some that are great singers behind all of the editing but even that is beside the point. People who listen to pop aren’t really concerned with the technicality of vocals and instruments like most people who listen to metal are. Most people who listen to pop aren’t musically inclined either, which is fine. There are more people that I know that are musically inclined that listen to metal than any other mainstream genre. But at the end of the day, you listen to what you listen to and you enjoy what you like.
to be totally fair....Perfect Illusion is a hard song to sing AND Lady Gaga was also crossing her legs while singing the song. But, most of the metal singers are quite underrated themselves, but overall good video!
I feel like I've been living in a muscial bubble due to what I usually hear through media and radio and basing what I liked from what was socially acceptable and what I personally tended to drift to. I'm now curious to know what types of music are out there, to find out which singers are trully skilled and from those that aren't, learn more about the history and techniques found in different types of music...There's just so much to get into. I'm glad I watched this video. I'm going to start my journey with floor since everyone here seems to love her voice.
Which is the point for humiliating someone, to feel superiority over the other? And why does any one would like to feel superior over anybody? Because the one pretending to be superior has SERIOUS internal conflicts as inferiority complex which drives the person to constantly seek to be above others on any matter.
It’s up to The UA-camr to upload whatever he/she wants,, it’s up to the viewer if they like that or not, From what I can see it’s fair to show how much better metal artist are in every way compared against the pop ones. There’s still some good pop artist of course.

Came across 3 of these and the immaturity is impressive lol. Metal singers undeniably have extremely talented singers and musicians. Don't think that was ever contested, but half of the "bad" pop examples are clearly biased for bad demos. Some pop singers are incredibly talented while some happen to just make "popular" music. It's okay to like a genre without shitting on others lol. Reading the titles, reading the descriptions, and seeing the bias in the clips, I bet the person that made this would be a pain to talk to about metal anyways. Screams elitest/gatekeeping mentality. And no, I'm not a metal head. I just happen to enjoy many forms of music I including metal. I was drawn in more by the instruments than anything initially, but I dig a lot of the vocals too.
Sharon is brilliant. The beautiful lady from Epica,is brilliant but Floor Jansen is in a league of her own. All beautiful gift from God/Jesus. God bless all musicians. I’m a Marian Catholic who loves Night Wish,AC/DC,Metallica etc.
My friend put it pretty clearly when it comes to pop singers versus rock/metal singers: if a pop artist can't sing, it's fine because auto-tune plus good PR plus pop fans not particularly caring will get them through it because it's more about image. If a rock or metal artist can't sing, well, the fans of that genre sure as fuck aren't going to let them off the hook. Can you imagine if Angela Gossow wasn't able to nail her growls?
the problem is that the metal singers have underlying technique and training that pop singers don't find necessary that makes their voice more ranged and protected from degradation and from harming their vocal cords with the abrasive techniques common to traditional metal, it just makes them more committed and well trained, it shouldn't be a competition
Tarja recorded acoustic versions of some songs in a church in Wacken in 2016. She is accompanied only by a violin, a piano and a cello. The performances are very beautiful. Among the songs she sang is "Ohne dich", a cover she did of Rammstein. Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/uUAzRN9Co7s/v-deo.html This is a video with 6 songs, but in the description there is the name of the songs so you can click on the one you want.
It's easy to make a biased video comparing a rehearsed stage performance to someone jamming in their bathrobe. I grew up and still mostly listen to metal but I'm not stupid enough to not acknowledge the great singers in other genres.
Federica De Boni Alissa White-Gluz Ylva Eriksson Noora Louhimo Tatiana Sarah Squadrani Nina Osegueda Ekaterina Kapshuk Jennifer Borg Chelsea Wrathchild Simone Simons Aleah Stanbridge
Singers like Dickinson, Halford, Coverdale, Dio, etc, deserves more attention. Even some Extreme Metal or some Prog like Åkerfeldt or Townsend, for a next video please.
Sometimes i feel confused by today pop singers when they do acoustic version. The one who do more voice is their backing vocal rather than the artist itself smh
I mean is obvious pop is must of the time a pretty face and a big group of people writing lyrics for then metal usually is a small crew they write their own stuff and put all their soul into it you can tell the passion they put into it
I think the answer is 2 fold most pop singers these days have so much electronic support that even ok singers sound good and they don't have to be heard over and or work with them keyboards, guitars and drums going flat chat. instead they are supported by the band. There is a clip on UA-cam where you see Lady Gaga and Floor from Nightwish singing the same song. Gaga is singing a duet supporting herself on the piano on stage at some formal show. Now Gaga is a good singer but when she really goes for the power you can hear her voice just flattens and her singing almost becomes mushy. When Floor sings the same song with a couple of guitars supporting her, when she goes for the power it's effortless and you can tell there is more in reserve.
The only thing established through this video is that OP has no clue about singing and what makes a good vocalist. Massive cherrypicking. Taking examples where the metal vocalists are at their best and taking examples when the pop artists are under their weather. Floor Jansen and Brittney Hayes are without a doubt some of the best vocalists in mainstream music (and of course metal is mainstream nowadays), but to insinuate that for example Lady Gaga is garbage in acoustic settings, is simply not true. Her performance of On The Edge at Howard Stern is one of the best I have ever seen. Similar goes for Ariana Grande and Miley Cyrus who don't need to hide - Cyrus's Backyard Session for example is showing much more of her qualities than most of her actual music. Sure for every Grande, Gaga and Adel there is Nicki Minaj or a Katy Perry who are just not good. But metal also has its James LaBries and Eric Adams. But I'm propably feeding pearls to the pigs right now, given that in the first iteration of this format you actually put two pretty briliant performances of Gaga and Grande in contrast to Turunen and Jansen. Where the only noticeable difference was style, not skill.
For me the main thing is that metall/rock artist have passion for the songs while pop is a cash grab with songs that most of the pop artists don't even make themselves. Long live passion for music 🤟
What I hear in difference is that poppers don’t know any good technique, just belting out all those complicated notes even if their voice can’t handle it. Rockers on the other hand, know what we’re doing when we sing those notes. We literally have a scientific method just for screaming so our voices don’t die, and we are also a lot less strict when someone doesn’t have a perfect/smooth/clean voice, if pop singers mess up once they’re cancelled by the media.
Oilalala Bla no I agree, she really messed up her voice. And it’s not like I don’t have vocal damage, but in rock music that doesn’t really matter to us, in pop however it does.
@@gothgirlgraveyard3539 oh yeah! I really forgot that she did, but It was using drugs and using cigarrets. Oilalala Bla exactly. I’m not judgemental when it comes to people’s voice, but I just want people staying safe. Especially if they’re vocal style is meant to be smooth
When you choose only the worst performances of various pop singers (Lady Gaga especially has much better performances and songs than that), yea metal singers look fantastic. And metal singers -are- fantastic, but there are some pop singers who absolutely can blow the roof off with their vocals. Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Jessie J, Sia, Adele, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande all have absolutely incredible live performances easily on par with metal vocalist's best.
This reminded me that Demon Hunter has an acoustic album coming out soon, Songs of Death and Resurrection. Absolutely can't wait for it. One of my favorite metal bands. Also, Phinehas has amazing acoustic versions of songs, Seven, Forever West, and Dead Choir for instance.
Pop is beyond over exposed in the media. Don't get me wrong some pop is good, and I do have my soft spots, but that doesn't change the fact that it's over exposed. Metal and rock will always win in the end, nothing will change that.

I listen to metal, but this is very incorrect comparison for the following reasons:
1. You take all the errors of pop singers and oppose them to one of the best metal performances like the emblematic Helloween live show (which I can listen every day for a full year). I am sure there are enough cases where the same singers both pop did perfectly well and metal had fails.
2. You name all the metal singer, who the followers of this channel know for sure, but you do not mention the names of the pop singers, I believe it should be the other way round
3. Some of the metal singers like Sharon are in a studio, which is way different than at a stadium or live TV show. For one of the pop singers (Ellen show) it was obvious that he can't here well and he knows it is not good, but can't do anything.
Thanks for your comments, I appreciate your feedback but as the creator of this content I disagree with some of your points. Thanks for expressing your opinion I might create a different compilation with other artists, showing other aspects of that music. I will keep this series as they are as they seam to entertain a lot of people. Thanks.
Even on their live or stadium metal singer still slayed. No pop artist dare to go without autotune...
Yeah, I have no idea who most of the pop singers were. I recognized Drake and Rihanna, but that's about it.
Its not exactly about their fails, its judt that the whole POP "artists" thongy is not actually correct. They are just not artists. Prove me wrong
I agree with point 2 as I have no idea who most of the pop singers are.
Edit: (I wouldn't know some of metal as well.)

You could put either Brittany or Sharon by themselves against this whole pop singers' decade, and it still wouldn't be a fair fight.
Throw Marko Hiealta in there, too. He has had Tarja, Anette, and Floor with him. He shines on his own.
Jonne Jarvela too

The last concert I seen before lockdown was Battle Beast, November 2019 and Noora Louhimo was amazing.
I instantly fell in love with noora's voice the second I first heard it.
There are Pop singers who have good and powerful voices, however the vast majority of Symphonic Metal singers can sing pop or acoustic songs without any problem but I have rarely seen that Pop Singers can perform a Metal genre song in a decent way. ADD: including Sharon Den Adel on this list is like to put Pallas Athena in a Disney Princess video
Sharon is probably my favorite voice next to Tarja's.
On my Mount Olympus are Floor Jansen, Tarja and Sharon, then already down on earth are the mortals
Ok, ok!, Yes, there is a case where a Pop singer sang and broke the Giant of Symphonic Metal, the incredible and amazing case of Emma Heesters singing “Strong” of After Forever to none other than Floor Jansen in the TV show Beste Zangers., this episode is in youtube
@@TheWatcherofsky Strong is not even a metal song, it's a pop ballad of a metal band, but the sound of Strong is not different from pop ballads of pop artists.
First time I've heard Sharon Den Adel (about 1999) I'd realize angels DO exist!
Wonder if someone has a crush on Elize? Don't worry, you're not the only one, found out about her a day or two ago and man is her vocals just divine. Also love Simone, Alissa, Noora.
I do! Lol
@Shashwat mishra If you think metal is not appealing to other styles you are missing out my friend. You can find, viking, battle, gothic, symphonic, power, trash, death, black, New, Oriental, Folk, Electronic, Industrial, even christian Metal just to mention a few. Bands like Amaranthe even mix some pop sounds. Do you know them?. They are really good and they have become very popular over the last few years but if you don't know them is because they probably don't have the recognition and attention they deserve. You will never hear them on the radio at least here in America. I stead we are forced to hear the same 10 crappy songs by billie elisha and lady gaga. My point here is fcku mainstream and support real talented artist whatever style or music they produce.
@Shashwat mishra Without talent, there will be no industry plants.
i'm a little sad that disturbed 'sound of silence' and Metallica 'nothing else matters' weren't in here because those are great acoustic examples of well known metal bands
It would be nice to see them in a separate, mostly-male comparison video, agreed. Still nice to see that there's lotsa female metalers that I never knew.
sound of silence is great, but it’s a pop cover and the tv production team slapped a ton of autotune on it...
Disturbed don't play metal, they're a pop band so they'd be on the other side.😂
All of these artistis have good and bad performances, I love metal but seems like you choose the worst performances for pop artists, also not the best artists to compare aswell, I love the idea of comparing the two worlds but the execution here is a no no.
Thanx, I was just about two write that. Every artist's voice gives up from time to time, you never know who many performances they have had in a row.
@Roberto Mendes Just because YOUR taste is not pop music, it`s not all crap. THAT is dumb... I`m not a pop-fan at all, but I have the balls to say that even some of the artists are really good- although it`s not what I personally like
Pop artist sometimes are better than this? Really?
no,pop artists just suck
@Roberto Mendes Poor you. You Don`t listen, you don`t read properly... Calm down. You understand nothing about personal taste at all...
OMG, Stream of Passion! 👀😍🤩
One of my favorite
to be totally fair....Perfect Illusion is a hard song to sing AND Lady Gaga was also crossing her legs while singing the song.
Black Metal Just embrace your darkness.
It’s up to The UA-camr to upload whatever he/she wants,, it’s up to the viewer if they like that or not,
From what I can see it’s fair to show how much better metal artist are in every way compared against the pop ones. There’s still some good pop artist of course.
@@cooltechnician Either way I'm free to say whatever I want to say. I do not find anything wrong on criticizing somene who criticize. In short, crystal bones generation.
Whoa, acoustic Battle Beast
Sharon's voice is really awesome, she is not from this world 💕😍
Agreed another angel sent to entertain us with metal 🤟👍
Love it how the pop singers, even with two backup singers behind them, are still overpowered. lol
the problem is that the metal singers have underlying technique and training that pop singers don't find necessary that makes their voice more ranged and protected from degradation and from harming their vocal cords with the abrasive techniques common to traditional metal, it just makes them more committed and well trained, it shouldn't be a competition
Man Brittany Slays kicks so much ass. Crazy part about that clip was it was in a karaoke bar right AFTER she just did a 90 minute show.

Its not only the Instruments. The metal voices are so powerfull and colourfull, its fantastic
Right, it's not just the power, it's the dynamics. Pop artists just have a narrow range of speed and colourings they can apply.
Who is the blonde at 0:02? It isn't Lada Gaga, is it?
Who was the pop singer that did a metal/hard rock version of her own song and killed it live on one of the award shows
I think the only pop artist who actually knows how to use her voice is Lady Gaga.
Mamma mia! That's a spicy top! Whatchmojo would be proud
Say that to Whitney Houston, just kidding 😂🤣👏
Oilalala Bla no I agree, she really messed up her voice. And it’s not like I don’t have vocal damage, but in rock music that doesn’t really matter to us, in pop however it does.
@@gothgirlgraveyard3539 oh yeah! I really forgot that she did, but It was using drugs and using cigarrets. And Im no professional in singing, but It really seems like most of them don't care to study and some just dont care If they are using the right way to create a diferent sound(like Christina Aguilera)
Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Jessie J, Sia, Adele, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande all have absolutely incredible live performances easily on par with metal vocalist's best.
for next video put in this "match" Roy Khan from Kamelot please

This reminded me that Demon Hunter has an acoustic album coming out soon, Songs of Death and Resurrection. Absolutely can't wait for it. One of my favorite metal bands.
Also, Phinehas has amazing acoustic versions of songs, Seven, Forever West, and Dead Choir for instance.
Pop is beyond over exposed in the media. Don't get me wrong some pop is good, and I do have my soft spots, but that doesn't change the fact that it's over exposed. Metal and rock will always win in the end, nothing will change that.
Some of the pop artist have potential, but will they go into the intensive training?
Also a fact between metal and pop music is that metal singers always singing live. They will never playback. Pop artists tend to playback much more.

And people really need to stop being so excited about Elize Ryd. I counted 3 times off-key in just that clip. That's less than impressive.

I appreciate the contrast, but you obviously have an Agenda. I know Adele has a pretty good voice, as does Gaga, and the selection you picked for Selena Gomez (which I was surprised actually wasn't that bad) all pale in comparison to the selection you put them against (Sharon had backup, and maybe a Studio, Marcelo had a band backing her up even acoustically, it beats just piano), still I do appreciate the comparison. I just feel you are pushing an agenda, rather than trying to truly show the difference.
