I can totally relate to the staff of Victoria Station's ticket office. I do the same job for the German Railway and I keep wondering how much longer we're still gonna be there for the customers. Many of them, old and young, couldn't cope with the machines. And what about the employees? For me, customer service is the best job in the world and not everyone can be an engineer or something like that.

    • @Zedek

The DB machines also don't know the small tricks. For example, when purchasing a ticket from Munich to Dresden, it would show like 60€/p.p. one-way (back then in like 2010). But behind one of the "screensaver advertisements", the state tickets were hidden. So we purchased a Bavaria ticket and a Saxonia ticket. Voila, half the price. A real human would've suggested to buy those, a machine not.

Should have phased out the ticket offices. The public need time to adjust, some more than others. In the smallest stations in Italy there are 4 to 8 machines, having only 4 machines is unrealistic.

To the people questioning the American's accent... in all likelihood he either moved to/from New York at such an age that his accent changed or his parents may not have been from New York and thus he picked up his accent more from them. He kind of goes between southern and new york. I've heard this kind of thing before with other accents whether it's within the US or even transatlantic accent changes from prolonged exposure. Does the man sound like he's from New York City? Not particularly, but that doesn't mean he isn't from there.

The whole design is not beef enough to work reliably outside nations who have a very disciplined general public, so one would think they'd change it up, but, no, we simply need to Germanise our public for Thyssen-Krupp products to work.

Jaison may have lived in New York, but his drawl and word usage definitely mark him as somebody from Bayou Country (Louisiana, most likely).

It was nowhere near as busy back in 2000 and 1997 when I was last in London.

Why not just make a flat fee system wide fare card. Daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly? Maybe a little more pricey but it beats going through that hastle every day. Card is good whether you go 1 stop or from 1 end of the system to the other. Once or 1000 thousand times. All youll have to deal with is people asking for directions-

I always wondered how 'The Tube' staff even think its gonna be convenience and relieve, if they replace themselves with automated ticket machines...
    Totally bollocks... !
not only you gotta stand and wait for a ticket, if machines even work 100%, but now you can't even argue with anyone when you get ** off :P.
