The pattern/shapes of the bright blue sky behind your cherry blossom tree is very similar (on the video, anyway) of your shirt's pattern/design. Flowery shapes, I think. Great video.
We had sixty people in my studio (in McMinnville, Oregon) watching the demo. Next time we're planning to hire a pro video team so we can share the whole experience!
Inspiring as ever! Thank you Erin for sharing a bit of your magic strokes. Would love to be there in person, one day, to see the master at work in a workshop. But I'm miles away, on the other side of the Atlantic. Are there any live workshops we can subscribe to watch online? I'm a huuuuuuge fan.
I would dearly love to know the reasons behind choosing to paint the background between the branches and flowers of the subject rather than laying in the background first, then the subject over it. Is it a matter of the time required for the background to dry so the foreground colors don’t get muddied?
Older videos indicate very limited palette, but here it looks like cobalt or kings blue, a purple, a turquoise and an earthy green. Are these mixed by Erin or are these bew faves?
The main blues here are almost definitely phthalo turquoise and phthalo blue (I don't know what the smaller paint piles are at the top of the palette. I believe they're still mixes of the colors from her main 4/5 for convenience). Then permanent rose and cad yellow pale.
The idea in painting is that you paint the white canvas an overall color that will unify the colors that are then painted on top. A background color allows the painter to leave space between colors that are applied on top, and those spaces will be the background color. This can save time and be used to bring both harmony and the dynamic of complementary colors, if she decides to use some sort of green colors. Ms. Hanson's canvases are, as you know, characterized by vibrant colors, and this pink serves her particular approach and style.
Thanks
Wow. More please.
I absolutely love seeing Erin's behind the scenes. Thank you for giving us such an in-depth snapshot of her process!
Our pleasure!

Thank you ❤
I love your paintings... This was so magical.
Thank you so much!
I love your work. Your process reminds me of making a puzzle.
Thank you! It is definitely kind of like that.
Master at work❤.

Beautiful!
❤i LOVE it.
Do you have an online workshop? Cuz I love to join one. Love your work❤
Inspiring and beautiful. Thank you!
Love it! Thanks for the demonstration! :)
Excellent. Very clear. Thank you!!!
How come you say you use only 5 colors to create all colors but there is much more than 5 on your palette? Thank you for sharing, very beautiful!! ❤
Wow! How I wish I was in that room hearing everything she says!!! How can I make that happen?
Hi Kathy, we weren't able to record the audio for both myself and the audience. We will try using a pro video team next time.
Great painting and nice to see the process. :)
Glad you enjoyed it

Nice work Erin! You paint so beautifully. How rid you learn to paint like this?
Erin is self taught. She highly recommends practicing. With each new painting or piece of art your skills and abilities will rapidly grow.

We're hoping to set that up in the future!
Beautiful work!! What is the name of the first background music piece....is it Handel or Bach?
On your palette, is that palette paper or a really large sheet of waxed paper that you taped down?

Thank you for the question! I explain my process on my blog here: www.erinhanson.com/resources

Hi Linda, I am still using the same 5 colors I've used for years, but I can create almost any color on the color wheel using my limited palette. :-)
The main blues here are almost definitely phthalo turquoise and phthalo blue (I don't know what the smaller paint piles are at the top of the palette. I believe they're still mixes of the colors from her main 4/5 for convenience). Then permanent rose and cad yellow pale.
Is there a way to watch this with the audio?
Unfortunately, we weren't able to record the audio for both myself and the audience. We will try using a pro video team next time!
@@airybear02 I look forward to it!
How do you know which colors to paint
Practice! Erin has painted a painting a week for almost 15 years now.
I'd be interested in knowing why the pink color was used to cover the canvas at the beginning. It is obviously not the predominate color.
If you like, I talk about my painting process in my blog. www.erinhanson.com/resources
Who can explain it? Why is the background color pink?
The idea in painting is that you paint the white canvas an overall color that will unify the colors that are then painted on top. A background color allows the painter to leave space between colors that are applied on top, and those spaces will be the background color. This can save time and be used to bring both harmony and the dynamic of complementary colors, if she decides to use some sort of green colors. Is there a name for this style/technique?
I wish we could hear what you are saying!
Unfortunately, we weren't able to record the audio for both myself and the audience. We will try using a pro video team next time!
The audio is very distracting and overbearing. Any way to mute it?
Yes, you can turn down the audio or mute it.
