Which of these tips have you tried before? Did you find them helpful? Let us know in the comments if you've found something that helps you get motivated!
I was listening to Holly Lisle's podcast yesterday, and what she advised was sorting all of your bills from smallest to largest, and then make your goal to pay the smallest bill with your writing. Once you are doing that consistently, then you add the next largest bill, and so on, until you're paying all your bills with your writing every month.
The best way to respond to someone who posts their successes is to not compare yourself but to be happy for them knowing that "it's possible" for you too. Send out those good vibes and they'll come back to you too.
that's so funny that you put up this video today because just this morning I was watching the vampire diaries on Netflix and Totally procrastinating and all I could think was "Wow this would be so much more fun if I wasn't distracted by all this guilt, maybe I should try scheduling Netflix watching into my day so I can enjoy it without the guilt. "
Sarra's HB90 course and group are awesome and I'm SO looking forward to the Publish and Thrive course! Thanks for all you do, Sarra. Proud to be a part of the HB90 family. You've helped me so much this past year and thanks to you, I'm getting my writing mojo back.
I play video games waaaayyy too much and always berate myself while doing it. I always need to work on the reward vs self-sabotage way of being productive, but your video has set a new fire in me! Thank you!
I've been doing the slow build to writing every day, and it has made a massive change in my life and my ability to finish the projects on my plate. Great advice! Also, I know the publish and thrive is new, but I wondered if you might consider an option for what happens after you publish for those of us who may already know how to do the rest. I would buy a mini course like that from you in a heartbeat.
I am not a goal setter, more of a spontaneous person. Newbe to seriously starting a writing career. I watch all of your videos, Chris Fox's & Joanna Penn for guidance & getting a heads up on what may be down the road & what needs to be planned & considered. I am currently taking your HB90 course hoping/planning to become a business planner. I am thinking of what my vision is for later in my life & writing career. Really appreciate that you care enough to share your experiences and helping writers to get it done right.
I also watch/record ID Network shows as research. They have real peoples reactions for extraordinary happening. I am using some of Lt. Kenda the Homicide Hunter's traits for my lead detective. It does sneak up how many shows are watched. I have started setting specific times that are for writing only.
Tip #5 was my biggest issue! Each tip was fantastic though!! But #5 was my favorite. Can’t sign up for either course right now but it’s going on my reward list.
Dont ever forget that as long as we continue to move forward toward our goals - no matter how small the steps may seem to be - it also means we are steadily moving away from the single thing that we all fear in life- or that we all should fear. That is: Being in the exact same position we are today, right now, a full two decades from this day, and having made zero progress towards the life we wanted. Having progressed in no meaningful way whatsoever, except insofar as we have moved ever-closer to the end of this beautiful, grand opportunity that is our life. We all should maintain a very healthy dread for what awaits us if we, just a little too often, give in to the easy comfort of procrastination and so receive the inevitable stagnation that thereby results and with it, the death of our dream. And what a horror that would be! But we can resist that end by taking one deliberate, determined step after another! With love!
Hey Yasmine! Thank you for watching! 🥰 And I agree. That's why really good friends and supportive groups are so important. Happy to call you a good friend.
This is such a fantastic video. I often feel like I'm not achieving enough, and never thought of rewarding myself. I always thought of doing something other than work as "slacking off", even if I knew I needed it.
Hi Sarra! I'm having one of those days where the only thing I want to do is meet you at a coffee shop and talk story. It's a lonely writer day. Actually, a lonely procrastination day.
Awesome video and tips - thank you, Sarra. I really like the part about redefining procrastination type habits and distractions, and using them as rewards instead. 😃💝
You are so inspiring! All these tips are spot on. It's hard to choose a favorite. But perhaps Start Small is the one I most need to keep in mind at the moment.
Sarra, it was like you were in my head. Thanks for the tips! You are amazing and so kind to help to lift the rest of us. Can't wait for the HB90 Bootcamp!
This was very helpful. I'm a first-year doctoral student and have been struggling with getting started with my writing. My advisor says that I am self-sabotaging and suffer from analysis paralysis. Thanks.
Thank you so much for this video, well, all your videos. I have found them all extremely helpful and inspiring. Even though I'm not writing as much as I want to (I'm big on procrastination.) thanks to you, I've already plotted out my 3 book series that I've been "working' on for years! Your information and advice is valuable and very much appreciated!!
Excellent tips. I definitely needed this, in particular, tip #1 and starting in small increments. I do find that I’m overwhelmed by the big picture and need to focus on smaller goals. I get literally so scared about all I need to do that I’m frozen in fear and won’t do anything...I’ve shut down.
Thank you so much for asking! I don't plan on offering a payment plan for the bundle at the moment, but if there are enough requests for it, I might add it later this week. Right now, I'm sorry, I don't plan to offer it since it's already a large discount.
Hi! I know you probably won't answer that comment because the video is already one year old and I'm noticing right now that this question is probably a bit rude (or against rule one, I don't know) but I'm gonna ask it anyway. So you talked about your... quarter notebook and my question is: why are you still doing this? (I don't want to judge you or anything, I'm just curious) because I think you've achieved already so anything you have published novels and you seem as you could live from writing, basically the only really "missing" things are that your Novels get translated in different languages and that they get a movie or a audio book and maybe that happened already, I don't know jet. (Again I'm really sorry if that question offends you, or if my command sounds a bit rude, my English writing is a little broken and I try to write this with the things I know in english).
Partially true. This is why it's so great to have a writing coach-coaches can make the difference between you feeling inspired to crank out that novel, and feeling like a deflated balloon. She makes a HUGE difference for those of us that don't feel like writing, due to life. I, for example, do not have a writing community online or offline. I don't have friends or a significant other to share my writing with. So Sarra gives me an enormous push to keep writing. In the end, for some of us-if we DON'T have that push, we won't write.
Writing can be an incredibly, even unbearably, lonely experience. We feel we have a lot to say, but with no voice to say it. I don't have anyone to bounce ideas off of, or anyone to cheer me on, but even for those surrounded by people and feel alone, a writing mentor can make or break a budding writer. So I'm glad someone's here to give us a push.
People can get good tips from these videos. If they don't work for you then don't click on them. I don't see the point of going on to a video which is titled 'How to get motivated as a writer' to say such people aren't going to write.

My neck hurts now from nodding in agreement throughout the whole video.

You always speak to my heart. That's why I keep coming back. Nobody motivates me the way you do. Thanks, Sarra. xx

Man this hits home so hard. Thank you! Also, yes please to an EC haul video, and I'd love to see more Plan With Me's!

Yes please show us the Erin Condren. And am I the only one who wants more people planner videos????

Writers gotta write ✍️✍️✍️......that's motivation enough!!!
Excellent advice, especially about following people. I've had to unsub from blogs before because of personal angst.
Hey Yasmine! Thank you for watching! 🥰 And I agree. That's why really good friends and supportive groups are so important. Happy to call you a good friend.

I enjoy writing what I want, how I want, and when I want, but I despise marketing. 😩
Awesome video and tips - thank you, Sarra. I really like the part about redefining procrastination type habits and distractions, and using them as rewards instead. 😃💝
Thank you! You are so kind in taking time to do this. And yes to planner and surprise box videos. 🤗
Very useful video. Thanks!

I'm always overwhelmed.

When is your next HB90 Bootcamp mama? I missed out on the June 2019 course as I’m watching this in July. New Subie~
Great tips Sarra
Sarra, part two...what is your Myers-Briggs type?
I am ENFJ!
Heart Breathings I am ENFJ...that is why I can’t resist listening. “). I love your passion. “)
Sarra, would you consider adding monthly option for the bundle?
