I am amazed by Rafi sahab. Being 1996 born, I have been deprived of the opprtunity to witness this gem but my parents have always introduced me to this music and pieces of 70s, 80s, abd 90s. I have never feel this blessed.
I have been listening to the great Rafi Sahab since I was growing up in Bombay... in the 1950s. When I was child, Rafi sahab's songs appealed to my tender understanding of music and melody. As a young man going to college, Rafi sahab sang (playback) for leading men in Indian films at that time going forward : Dilip Kumar, Pradeep Kumar, Bharat Bhushan, Rajendra Kumar, Shammi Kapoor, Shashi Kapoor, Jeetendra, Dharmendra, even Raj Kapoor, and believe it or not, even for my other favorite singer in India: Kishore da... At the age of 75, I still listen with to the great voice of Rafi sahab. To those who may be interested: Manna da, Kishore da, and Dasettan ( Yesudas ), were asked who they considered as the quintessential male voice in their time as singers: They answered without any hesitation: Rafi Sahab.!! .. Those three great singers were not being modest, they were unabashed in chosing the very best among in their brotherhood.. I consider myself very fortunate to have lived when it was possible to listen to the greats mentioned above, and also to Talat sahab, Hemant da, Ghantasala... As you may have noticed, I have only mentioned male singers... All of the above would be only 50% effective in films if they did not have duets with a great number of my numerous Didis, starting with Lataji, and Ashaji..!!

I have been enjoying this song since the mid-1960s when I was 10. But, the greatest tribute to Mohd. Rafi that I heard of came from a Tibetan Lama. It was mid-1985, I was doing my doctoral field work in Sikkim, which has had a sizable Tibetan refugee population since China occupied Tibet. One such Tibetan, an ochre-robed respected Lama in his 60s, mentioned to me that his favorite singer was Mohd. Rafi but he felt sad that Rafi was no more.

At the age of 75, I still listen with to the great voice of Rafi sahab.
To those who may be interested:
Manna da, Kishore da, and Dasettan ( Yesudas ), were asked who they considered as the quintessential male voice in their time as singers: They answered without any hesitation:
Rafi Sahab.!! .. Those three great singers were not being modest, they were unabashed in chosing the very best among in their brotherhood..
I consider myself very fortunate to have lived when it was possible to listen to the greats mentioned above, and also to Talat sahab, Hemant da, Ghantasala...
As you may have noticed, I have only mentioned male singers...
All of the above would be only 50% effective in films if they did not have duets with a great number of my numerous Didis, starting with Lataji, and Ashaji..!!
The mysterious voice of Rafi Saheb and the simple and sweet music by O. P. Nayyar Saheb always compliment each other. As a result usually a masterpiece is created.

We cant expect such tunes scenery&picturization in present one's. They are eternal& hummable always.
I have been enjoying this song since the mid-1960s when I was 10. But, the greatest tribute to Mohd. Rafi that I heard of came from a Tibetan Lama. It was mid-1985, I was doing my doctoral field work in Sikkim, which has had a sizable Tibetan refugee population since China occupied Tibet. One such Tibetan, an ochre-robed respected Lama in his 60s, mentioned to me that his favorite singer was Mohd. Rafi but he felt sad that Rafi was no more.

I was ten years old when I watched this movie. Biswajit and this song instantly became my favourites. It was all breathtakingly beautiful. We Indians are fortunate for the films of the 50s and the 60s for the wonderful music they gave us. Golden era !
