I have two years to my prom, but I'm literally really SCARED!!
you have nothing to worry about! some tips :)
-tbh going to prom w/ friends is a lot better than having a date (although some schools require a date in order to go :\)! gather your closest friends at your school and plan the best night of high school w/ them!
-if you plan on getting your hair, nails, and makeup done professionally, book your appts. MONTHS in advance bc by the time prom rolls around, basically every place in town will be booked.
-good places to find prom dresses: david's bridal, jcpenney's, dillard's, macy's (basically any dept. store)
-the most important thing: *dont do anything at the last minute* (you will regret it)

I grew out my hair for prom it was long and past my boobs. I went to the salon for my hair appointment for prom. I just wanted simple curls in a half up half down hairstyle. My cousin had one of the temps start curling my hair while she was finishing someone else. The temp asked if she could trim my split ends and against my better judgement I said yes. She cut off 4 1/2 inches!!! It went from being past my boobs to just a little bit below my shoulders. It was awful. Luckily my cousin had some extensions that were my hair color but I've been growing it out again. I was pissed.
Omg that's terrible! Something like that happened to me too, my hair was super long like past my belly button and I went to the hair salon to get a trim but the stupid lady cut my hair sooo short like a little bit past my shoulders D': I got so mad
I hate hairdresser people. They just do what THEY want to do for YOUR hair =( My sister cut her hair without measuring or anything and it was PERFECT!!!
I remember last year for my sisters graduation, I had my hair done, I got professionally straightened, they asked the same thing to trim the split ends I said yes, and they took off so much hair, it was so long like almost down to my waist, and then it was the same as yours, barely passed my shoulders, I was also pretty pissed.
I had hair like that and I wanted it a bit past my shoulders and they cut it a bob :( I've only been to a salon twice after that, little cut and dying it

I had my formal(my country's version of prom) yesterday and on a ship and i woke up with 3 pimples on my nose, late to the boat(made it tho) my hair was flat after 40mins on a train and running to the dock. Also got lost cuz my data wasnt working so no google maps:)
