UPDATE I MADE UP:
He got that raise & a BIG FAT PROMOTION! He lands a new job piloting his own cruise ship but when it comes under attack from alien enslavers, his old training kicks in once again. The offending species gets the same (if not worse) treatment as last time. Once the enemy are taken away by the authorities, 1 of the passengers comes up to thank him, it's the hot alien reporter! She was attending her brother's wedding on the ship, "What are the chances?" She exclaims, he chuckles, "Well sweetheart, i'm the Captain of this Ship now, allow me to invite you & your family up to the table." They accept & the dinner was something not to sniff at. The elderly mother of the groom is patting her pet dog, the Captain jumps up & exclaims, "That looks like Ripper! My old dog! Where did you get him from ma'am?" The old matriarch tells him that the dog was dumped at a pet shelter by his wicked mistress, "Would never obey her so she just chucked him over." The Captain told her the story of his ex-wife taking the dog only to spite him in the divorce. Ripper bounds his way to his old master & nuzzles him, "Good to see you again boy, but you have a lovely new mistress now, better than that nasty old hag who snatched you from me." The dinner goes down well & you can bet romance blossoms between the alien girl & the captain. They marry years later & the captain is promoted to daddy of twins! Ripper the dog is happy to have 2 cute playmates when his former master comes visiting him & his new mistress with the new wife & their kids.
