They need to restore some of these historic buildings. You should do a video of black river

That old building was a club in the 80s called bamboo launge. It's been there since balaclava was established.. Also the old train station, that's another old 1.

Thanks for this video, it brings back great memories; I attended the Primary School there, I knew all the big shots then and by the way, I was a member of the St Luke’s church junior choir back in the sixties and finally my mother was laid to rest there in 2006.

I remember when the Balaclava Market was booming. My parents used to sell their produce there. Balaclava could use some investors. The community could use some new development. Also, the historic buildings should be preserved. Such a treasure! The good old days!!!

Thanks for this Tania. I was born there and left in 1957. Is there a Friends of Balaclava group? St Luke was my grandmother's church.

It is really interesting that Balaclava had one of the largest railway station with the diesel and train commuting to and from Kingston to the rural areas. However, you never even show us the site where the station was. That was the most significant thing about Balaclava. Also the McLeish family are one of the most prominent people in Balaclava. Really disappointed that you never highlight the station. Was my first time seeing a train in the late 70s when I use to vist my grandparents. However I like your blogs...cant go wrong on geography and history.

    • @ChatJamaicanwithTania

I will try and highlight the station at a later date. It was around the corner from the church.

The burial of those in St. LUKES, Anglican, Balaclava are those who died in the 1938 train wreck. Balaclava history is rich. The market shown is the new one. The Post Office now stands on part of the grounds of the old market. Do you why the town was named Balaclava? Do the research.
