BTS won many awards that night, as they always do. Since 2016, they slayed at every award show, with their performance, and their awards.

Yesss you can always tell about the mics. bts's mics always are ON.
Fake love is definitely a fan favorite.
And Idol is just pure adrenaline at both comcerts and award shows. Its their official stadium shaker anthem. Its always expected at their concerts.

Oh I was so curious to see your reaction to Airplane pt 2 since it was a part of this performance. I'm still glad to see your reaction to the rest though. I agree. Fake Love always reigns supreme for me. Especially all of the different ways they perform Fake Love live. It's still one of my top BTS songs of all time even though they have lots of great ones. The dramatics on the staging really was gorgeous.
Also yes lol. BTS was the most awarded artist at MMA that year as they won 7 awards (Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, Best Rap/Hip-Hop (for Fake Love), Netizen's Choice, Top 10, Kakao Hot Star, Global Artists). And they got nominated for Song of the Year with Fake Love as well.

A lot of idols don't actually sing, rather use a live recording that isn't as squeaky clean as a studio recording and contains breathing. With BTS tho, they've always used backing tracks so it's always obvious when they're singing or focusing on choreography. Basically, they're honest about not being able to or wanting to sing certain parts, like Jimin does lots of acrobatics and obviously he can't always breath, sing AND do intense choreography simultaneously, it's physically impossible.
Hilariously, there was a law introduced during the late 00s or early 2010s in South Korea that made it illegal for concerts to be fully lip synced by second generation idols, as it was the norm, after concert goers complained about feeling scammed.
Fake Love might sound like a love song but it's moreso about their relationship to fans & them juggling their public persona. One thing about BTS, they'll conceptualize parasocial relationships in their music...They deem it fake love because they couldn't reveal their struggles with keeping the group together, they were considering breaking up around 2017-18, since they were burned out. I guess they don't want ARMY to worry too much so they keep revealing really damn emotional and deep struggles after they found a resolution and most often share these memories/events through their discography and livestreams.
As for Idol, K-pop fans have been talking sh*t about them being "too westernized" and having "ruined K-pop" for years by that point and the traditonal arrangement for the song was specifically a message to those folks. They still get criticised for basically making music like a musician - writing lyrics, composing and/or collaborating because a lot of groups aren't even allowed to.
Anyway, this was sort of a full circle moment as I knew about your channel through Kinnporsche and now I found it again through BTS (as an OG ARMY who's been with them since 2013) lol

Thanks for watching this - always love this performance. I believe that yes, they won all four grand prizes that night, as they did for several years - until lockdown, perhaps. Not sure about it, because I don't actually pay attention very much.
I always find that if a song or performance seems a nit less engaging to me then once I learn more about it, it completely pulls me in. Leading up to these awards, BTS were getting a lot of criticism for abandoning their Korean roots, and becoming too westernised. Thus the very strong elements of traditional Korean culture and dance.
The song Idol was also a response to a lot of hate that BTS always received for becoming idol artists and 'abandoning hip hop', Idols in Korea have never been particularly well-thought of. Despite all their talent, hard work and skill, they are often not thought of as 'proper' artists. Pushed through a rigid and rather homogenised training system, and given music to sing and perform, with very little creative input, they were kind of seen almost as a production line, pumping out rather anodyne and mindless music - however engaging it might be. This is changing quite a bit now, but it started to change with BSH and BTS.
In fact not all idol groups were like that all the time, and BTS were never like that. From the start, they had some hard things to say to Korea, and some hard support to offer the little people who struggled with the life they faced. They never produced a song that could be considered 'anodyne' or trite, and always had a lot of involvement in writing and producing their material, and on choosing the direction and message they wanted to present. The messages came from their real lives, with honesty and ... quite a lot of guts.
Si Idol is a response to those haters, saying, don't care what you think an idol is, I am proud of it. And is a great cry that, however you try to denigrate me or my work, I will love myself, and you can't change that.
    So we love it.

I don't think you have understood "Fake Love".
It's a brilliant song but it is also a tricky one.
The key is the album title "Love Yourself: Tear": the second of three "Love Yourself"-albums.
Those are concept albums - something that has never been done quiet like this ever.
It bgins with "Intro: Serendipity" and tells of a relationship. The first album is from fallinf for the first time into a perfect "love story" with the determination to make it perfekt.
That this can't work is the topic of the second album.
It took me a while to understand "Intro: Singularity" but now it does make a lot of sense.
We loose ourself in a relationship we try to make perfect for the other person and try to call it love when that can't work. In "Fake Love" we go from "I don't know why" to "I just know why" for a reason. It hurts far too much to surpress your true self. We have also denied the other person a chance to love us: how can they if they don't actually know us?
And so the relationship breaks apart and we are left hurting because it was our fault to begin with.
"Smile" like a doll (you are supposed to be happy after all) and pretend it doesn't hurt when it does till the pain outweights the "love".
The answer is on the third album: "Epiphany".
You have to love your own imperfect self first before you can built any healthy relationship with yourself, family, friends, a partner etc.
The "Love Yourself: Highlight Reel" (also part of the BU) shows of how we can sabotage a relationship. Jin's character finds a diary and fullfills the girls wishes for a relationship but in the end it does not work.
(BTS: JK lifting his shirt *IS* part of the choreography of this song)
    Fun fact about Idol:
The plattform they danced on in the end was NOT safe - they were warned that it wasn't but they tried anyway. (I think this is why you see some of them look down for a second or two)
I think DKDKTV has an explained vid to the song.
BTS most loved stage is probably the MMA 2019 stage (not that any of them are bad; the one in 2020 was also good but because of the situation pre-recorded)
    You nice! Keep going! 💜

Idol a clap back at those who said they had 'become too westernised' so they put even more Traditional Korean dance elements, sounds and traditional symbols and dance into it even though there were many traditional elements already within the MV. It always was a diss track oh they are traditional South Korean Lions not dragons which are Chinese. That's why they look different.

Can anyone even image the Scammy's putting on this type of performance? They cut you off if you go over 30 seconds on you thank you speech. The only performance that even compares is, Michael Jackson's moon walk. Nobody puts on performance like BTS. JK's Euphoria flying over the stadiums. All 7 members of BTS performing in concert Black Swan. Stunning performance. And even though BTS was given a certain amount of time pulled off the BEST 2022 Grammy performance I've seen In years.

To be honest, a lot of people actually prefer their live vocals as there is more raw emotion and less studio technique. 💜
