    I remember watching the Sports Illustrated commercials come on all the time, but wasn't into sports back then. Around this time I was more so into toys, Nintendo, and cartoons.

    I was obsessed with Sundance cranberry when I was a kid, I wish it would come back like New York seltzer did.

    Chip Fields from the Spider-Man TV show is the mother of actress Kim Fields. She even appeared on The Facts of Life in a couple of episodes as Tootie's mom.

      She also played the abusive mom of Janet Jackson's character on Good Times

    That Lender's Bagels commercial animation reminds me a lot of School House Rock and even a little Rankin Bass.
    Apparently, the only things from the Franklin Mint that have appreciated in value are things made of gold or silver. Stuff like dolls, knives, and probably these wooden animals or whatever have either remained the same price, or dropped a lot in value. Franklin Mint is still around, even though it filed for bankruptcy in the early 2000s.

    I was beat to the mention of the Japanese counterpart to the Spider Man series!
    This video has *3* people who died in 2017!

      I guess it's a good thing I didn't post this *before* they died. That would have freaked me out.

    Spider-Man-i'd have liked to see how they wouldve realized Green Goblin and Doc Ock on the show
    Mauna Loa-R.I.P John"Higgins" Hillerman :( shame on CBS for making the character female in the upcoming Magnum P.I reboot
    Search-wish there had been a sequel
    Sundance-wine coolers without the wine lol
    Fats Domino-R.I.P :( (loved that shot of the enthusiastic audience member @ 7:35)
    Kung Fu-"We're gonna KILL that Chinaman!!!"
    A Night In Heaven-the husband should have caught a murder charge at the end

    I think most of the budget for that version of Spider-Man got spent on the theme music. Certainly didn't spend much on the costume.

      hard to imagine him swinging from building to building in that show isn't it.

    Wow, if I understand it correctly, that chess set costs $576 + tax. However, that's decent marketing to make it sound much cheaper by breaking it into monthly payments, plus patience if you want to wait 2 years and 8 months to collect the whole set. No wonder they suggest using a credit card if you want to buy the whole set at once ;-)

      According to the CPI inflation calculator that set would be over $1200 today!

    Spider-Man sure has had an interesting TV history. If you want some fun, track down the old Japanese show where he fights giant monsters.

    • @80sCommercialVault
      @80sCommercialVault  7 років тому +3

      The costume on Japanese Spider-Man looks better but as far as the show goes the American version was way more faithful to the spirit of the comics (where Spider-Man does not routinely battle giant monsters). It's weird how neither costume could get his eyes right.

    I don’t get it, why were Civil War chess sets so popular?!

    • @80sCommercialVault
      @80sCommercialVault  7 років тому +3

      I don't get why you would assume they were "so popular" based solely on this commercial.

      back in the 80's there were a lot of historian buffs who liked showing off their collections to everyone me as a kid had 4 neighbors that got that set and plus hearing them debate for hours on one single event or soldier or general end on end hehe and plus they were made from pure pewter that has that glowing metal shine to them, later on they made sets of classic trains from the franklin mint that looked amazing.

      80sCommercialVault, my dad had one (I don't know when he got it), and I've heard about several people owning them, so...
